Maude was killed out of spite. The writers have regretted killing her ever since. It took a very long time for them to find ned a new partner. He was much better with Maude than without.
Personally I never got why they just didn't make Maude a background character until they got the situation worked out because stories revolving around Ned being single was a mixed bag. I personally was not a fan of how she was killed off and saw it was really out of place.
Trey Parker has done that a lot. I saw another video where either Trey or Matt, or both, did something impulsive and for a show that “never apologizes” they issue far more apologies than you think

They should never have tried to spin off "All in the Family." Although Edith's death was sad, as was Gloria and Mike splitting up, it just wasn't the same without them.
_All in the Family_ had like six or seven spinoffs. The most popular of which were _Maude_ (who was Edith Bunker's cousin), _Good Times_ (Florida Evans was Maude's maid), and _The Jeffersons_ (who were the Bunker's neighbors before "movin' on up to the East Side").
Fun Fact: the 6th doctor was originally meant to wear a leather jacket much like the 9th doctor before donning the patchwork costume he had on during his time on the show.
The irony is they didn't even need to kill off Col. Blake on M.A.S.H. because they already had a way for him to leave the show. He got sent home. So killing him off on top of that always seemed unnecessarily cruel to me.
It was a backhanded slap at McLean for believing himself more important than the show. He believed he was meant for bigger and better than being a part of an ensemble cast. So he was bad mouthing on his way out, and the show runners wanted to plant the dagger deep as a reminder to him in the future about getting an overinflated head again. And it could have all been moot, if he had actually went on to bigger and better, but it just wasn't in the cards.
I'm surprised Angela's death from Family Guy isn't mentioned here, especially given Carrie Fisher's passing. As Peter said, 'I may have lost a boss, but Heaven has gained a princess.'

What about Selma the bailiff in Night Court? The actress passed away from lung cancer in 1985 after filming season 2, and they replaced her character with a similar acting character played by Florence Halop who also died of cancer in 1986, shortly after completing season 3.
I worked on Vikings for about five years. There's a couple of characters from that show who were suddenly written out, one at their own request because he just didn't want to be an actor anymore, and another because he couldn't overcome addiction issues. Fans might be able to guess who they are but both exits were pretty jarring.

Jadzia Dax's death was the first and only time I have bawled over someone's onscreen death. What was even more ruthless is that she and Worf were trying to have a baby and she mentioned this in her dying words. Awful!

Of course, the term regeneration would not be a word used until the end of The Third Doctor's era, and other actors would leave due to production problems Jon Pertwee because he lost his good friend Roger del Gardo who played the Doctor's frenemy The Master and things not feeling the same, Tom Baker due to his messy divorce with co-star Lalla Ward and having creative differences with the new producer of that time, and Christopher Eccleston for not getting along with showrunner Russell T Davies and producer has gone to say that the only way he'd ever return to the show is they are not involved with the show.
With Dr Who, Micheal Grade actually got his commupence later after the show was axed. Every director of the BBC got knighted by Queen Elizibeth EXCEPT Grade. Apparently the Queen was a huge Dr Who fan.

Anyway, up until I found out about Eddie being written out because of the radio comments, my impression was that he was going to be a short term character (kind of like Robin was among others.) Looking at Carla’s luck and just having several children, it seemed fitting. I’d have Been very curious to see how the show would turn out had Eddie remained longer.
Got your info wrong on Terry Farrel/Jadzia Dax. It's true she wanted her character and work load reduced but, in the actress' own words, the execs behind Deep Space 9 kept bugging her about her decision, they were trying to actually get her to change her mind. She ultimately said no so the character's death was literally the result of the actress' choice and no one else's.

Victor Garber also lives in Chester, New York which is about 45 minutes north of New York city. I used to see him all the time when he would come to a store I worked at. He probably preferred the stage because there's more theaters in NYC and it allowed him to be home every night and not have to fly out to LA for a tv show.
Maude's death was difficult to accept. I remember watching that episode for the first time thinking, she will be hanging on to something or get caught in a net. I felt Ned's pain as he tried to move on without her. The show has not been the same since. Ms. Krabapple was difficult too. Deep down I believe she wanted to help Bart but was pressured by the staff and the school board to treat Bart as though he is nothing but a trouble maker.
Valerie Harper('s character) was also killed off her own show as well (Valerie/The Hogan Family).

Lance Sweets was not the only "main character" to be killed off in Bones. Mr. Nigel Murray was killed by an assassins bullet during one episode. He was an intern that was regularly on the show. He "died" before Sweets...
the actress who played Linda Reagan in "Blue Bloods" was killed off because she wanted to do something else. and idk if this would could since he did come back, but James Best left "The Dukes of Hazzard" (and Ben Jones left as well and also came back) because of conditions from behind the scenes, not having a dressing room and stuff. Sliders was great TV and was my favorite show back in the day. It started getting bad at it's forth season and was absolutely unwatchable at its fifth, it was terrible. I laughed all the way to the Television to turn it off when the guy said "I'm Quinn Malory". I wish we would get a reboot with the original cast.
Stevenson was so dang perfect as Blake... And the same thing happened with 'Trapper John', the actor not enjoying playing second fiddle to Hawkeye (he wasn't killed off though)
Collin Baker was a shout but he managed to get three seasons as the doctor. Christopher Eccleston despite bringing Doctor Who into the 21st century only managed one season before being killed off. It has never really been explained exactly why but I believe it wasn't pretty.
Honestly, the delay of the 21st season of NCIS because of the Hollywood strikes last year should be counted. David McCallum died before anything could even be written for that season. That’s why they had that tribute episode. And, before y’all go after me with the “Oh, but there’s a list for that,” that video was made before he died.
Imo chief should have been in the number one spot. Even it was funny,it was really spiteful. Way to erase a charcter who was part of the show,regradless of the whole scientology fall out.
Basically all of the main Lost tailees were killed off for production reasons. Ana Lucia & Libby were reportedly written out due to bad behavior off screen.
This may seem like a small occurrence but i wish Barristan Selmy from Game of Thrones was included. He had such a good amount of stuff left to do in the books and the way the Showrunners sloppily killed him for Shock Value and Gave all of his Plotlines to Tyrion in the Mereen arc is just so insulting.

Maude's death was difficult to accept. I remember watching that episode for the first time thinking, she will be hanging on to something or get caught in a net. I felt Ned's pain as he tried to move on without her. The show has not been the same since. Ms. Krabapple was difficult too. Deep down I believe she wanted to help Bart but was pressured by the staff and the school board to treat Bart as though he is nothing but a trouble maker.

and idk if this would could since he did come back, but James Best left "The Dukes of Hazzard" (and Ben Jones left as well and also came back) because of conditions from behind the scenes, not having a dressing room and stuff. And Sonny Shroyer left when his character got a spin off show but then came back when it got cancelled after one season.

Sliders was great TV and was my favorite show back in the day. It started getting bad at it's forth season and was absolutely unwatchable at its fifth, it was terrible. I laughed all the way to the Television to turn it off when the guy said "I'm Quinn Malory". I wish we would get a reboot with the original cast.

Honestly, the delay of the 21st season of NCIS because of the Hollywood strikes last year should be counted. David McCallum died before anything could even be written for that season. That’s why they had that tribute episode.

He had such a good amount of stuff left to do in the books and the way the Showrunners sloppily killed him for Shock Value and Gave all of his Plotlines to Tyrion in the Mereen arc is just so insulting.
