    Hi again from a very cold grey England. Beautiful autumn colours here though. As always I really look forward to your videos. I admire you and your work very much. You have the same mindset regarding art I think from watching you here and elsewhere. You work is wonderful, and I love how hard you work and study and how much you want to learn and improve. It's always inspiring for me. It's good to see an artist as good as you, who I aspire to as much as I do to my favourite old masters, who is still searching and striving to improve and learn but still take the time to share with us. I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for giving us your time and sharing your journey. It's helped me so much. Especially with my confidence and belief in myself and my studies. Sorry for the long message but I've wanted to say this for a while now. Xx glenn

You have many times helped me keep going and work through the doubts. I'm sure I speak for many people who watch your videos when I say how they help. You're a good guy, and we do appreciate all your efforts. Cheers mate. Much love xx

    Great commentary and explanations. . .haven't even finished listening yet, but wanted to share an anecdote. I read an article a few years ago about the San Francisco Museum of Modern art. A young boy placed his glasses near the wall of the exhibit between two art works.
    It gathered a crowd of people looking at it and commenting. . .they thought it was a work of art. Well I guess it was, the art of conning people!!!
    I am so grateful to you and the many other realist artists who are sharing your techniques, knowledge and philosophy with art students around the world. I have already learned more than many graduates of college in fine arts thanks to you and your many colleagues. I love the work of the old masters and now that we finally have some, the work of the new masters. Your work is amazing! God bless you.

There are a lot of people sketching with watercolours or gouache nowadays and it is great seeing a master like you using that medium and getting those results in a sketchbook. Oil is great but gouache is more down to earth for us mortals :-). Thank you for sharing!

    Now you can rent a car and drive back East, take I-40, it's a beautiful trip, you'll meet some interesting people at stops...and if it's still the same as when I took that route with my parents moving back East by car, you'll be on route 66 for some of it (leaving from Las Vegas at the least). We did it in 5 days, 4 nights to Macon Georgia, I highly recommend it as you get to see the country as it is outside of major cities, see some history and some of the hole in the wall diners have the BEST food! Cheers!

    We look at different painting styles as something supervaluable, but actually I see those styles as being forced upon artists by the story they wanted to tell. If we see the true rhythm behind greatest works of art, it is very precise despite huge differences in style and subject matter. I think in today's art world many artists can paint better than Bouguereau , but they have no such timeless stories or rhythmic precision in the brushstrokes or colour palette he had. And I don’t understand one particular thing about artistry: how one can “express himself” when painting let say the tree, if the tree has its own rhythm of colour palette and its own character? What do the artist “expresses” in this instance: the true experience of the tree or his own distorted vision, cleverly wrapped up in unusual style? What we are buying in art,-the true experience of the subject matter or simply the new possibility to entertain our senses? I would really like to hear some thoughts regarding these issues if that would be possible. Thank you.

    We are in an Extreme Consumerism phase in art which means that dollars dictate what art is - this makes the one who holds those dollars the artist. This isn't too far from Renaissance art whereby the church dictated and paid for the art created.

    Hey Cesar,
    On the topic of breaking art, what is your opinion on the first ever sold AI painting? Do you believe a human element is necessary to make art or is AI art justified?

    • @santocesart
      @santocesart  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      A team of "artists" created the algorithm.

    • @GuenevereSchwien
      @GuenevereSchwien 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe the human element is the most important part. This is what makes each and every painting unique, they come from emotions, ideas and the individuals interpretation of those. I think AI art is blasphemy, but clearly now I will have to research it, lol.

      @@santocesart Cesar Santos it's very interesting to me. I've been a computer programmer for 35+years and I have to say there is more in common between art and programming. It has the same search for reduction and elegance, and is, at its best to a highly creative process. As someone who loves both fields I can tell you the soul of it is the same. I know that must sound hard to believe but it's really true. I could talk for hours on the subject of how much they share. There is a lot of beauty in elegant code that I can enjoy looking at. Both fields need deep learning and a lonely struggle. Similar minds are needed to be good at both. Lol I really could talk for hours about it.

    • @masterpainters1706
      @masterpainters1706 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not to say anything about the ai art, more the connection between art and programming. I'm more interested in the algorithms than the value of the outcome

    If you break art, it's no longer art. The "individualism" of today's art more closely adheres to an agenda (political) than that of the past. Institutional art today is as much a slave to ideology as it was under Nazism and Communism. The Modern Art movement was a slave to the USA Cold War political agenda, a fact that has been known for over 20 years now.
    www.independent.co.uk/news/world/modern-art-was-cia-weapon-1578808.html
    Your own work I think, would be included in a parallel, alt-art world of figurative art that is a "counter" movement to the institutional (universities, museums, government) sanctioned art. Modern Art has reached its final empty, hollow, nihilistic end. It no longer has depth or meaning, thus no longer speak to people, and thus they seek creative nourishment elsewhere.
    As Odd Nerdrum put it in his most recent video, Modern Art thesis dictates that anything of the past century is out of date, thus Modern Art is now out of date. It's time for something else that enriches peoples lives and gives meaning.
