Patch an E-Bike Rear Tire WITHOUT Removing the Wheel (Demonstrated on a Lectric XP 2.0)

  • This is an informational video showing you how to patch a rear bike tire without removing the wheel, with no tools except for a mini bike pump and a small patch kit. You can accomplish this in 10-20 minutes on your first attempt if the tube is patchable. On an e-bike with a rear motor it is a major hassle to remove the wheel, so if you don't have to, then don't!
This should work with any e-bike.

Good straight forward demo !... looked like a pinch flat....surprised to see how many people ( especially kids ) think you can ride on or off curbs or plow right over pot holes ( more reason to have the tire at full pressure 30psi )....first time I patched a tire I was about maybe 10 years old....around 1960....doing it was all part of riding a bike....would do it near a garage tire pump if you didn't have one. Now I have a compact battery powered pump....works great !.... great vid...the bit with your daughter was great. All the best to you and your family ! ( Lectric 2.0 owner ) thanks !

Thank you for your feedback! Yeah, I figured something stupid occurred to make that specific hole but accepted I wasn't going to get the truth. 😂. I recently got a cheap battery powered air compressor as well. I was skeptical at first but so far have been impressed.

1960? Did you light the patch on fire, like we did, to seal it? :)

This was useful. I've used the same technique on non-electric bikes with smaller tire, but I wondered if I could do the same with the fat tires on my new ebike. The only suggestion I'd make is to feel for a thorn/nail/screw/whatever still stuck in the tire itself. You would not want to have a fresh puncture right on top of the puncture you just repaired.

Great video! Also always make sure you rub your hand inside the tire itself because what caused the puncture could still be there and when you go to inflate the tire it will puncture the inner tube again.

After the first time removing the back/ front wheels it's a very simple process....Good video...

    • @RPMac
      @RPMac ปีที่แล้ว +2

Removing the back tire is more work than is necessary ( and is not a simple process on a rear hub electric bike !!!!! )...what this guy does is exactly the correct way to fix a flat...wheel removal is not required ( on any bike) unless you've damaged the wheel !

I appreciate seeing how this is done in case my Flat Out fails on my XP 2.0. I cringed a bit when you flipped the bike over though because it looks like you bent your rear fender. Hopefully not
    Thanks again

I don't know about the 3-in tires but the 4.0 almost never get flats if you keep the pressure below 15psi. E-bakers hate on me when I say this but mountain bikers will agree with it all day long. I have three fat tire bikes two of them are e-bikes , one flat since 2017, and it probably could have been avoided if I had changed the tire a couple hundred miles earlier. The only thing I use is a rim liner and keep the PSI. between 6 and 14 psi

You know what but I wouldn't hold your breath too much on that flat out I ran over a thorn yesterday and I had the flat out in my tire. I pulled the thorn out spun the tire around spun it around and the tire went flat. I had to go to my local bike shop. They couldn't put a patch on it like you. Did yours? But they wouldn't touch it because it had the Flat out in it and I don't know why it didn't work so I ended up having to buy a new tube. I just thought I'd pass that along it didn't work for me like they say it does. And the thorn really wasn't any bigger than a needle so I don't know why it didn't work

Great video but you forgot to check the inside of the tire for what may of caused the flat in the first place before replacing tube back in the tire.

  • @timlist4173

patched tubes are fine to use for years if done right with a quality patch. Ive seen tubes that look like theyre almost as much patch as rubber.

I'm not sure I'm understanding if you mean letting air out of the tire or removing the valve stem from the wheel? Letting air out of the tube if not already flat is easy enough with the pump or a stick or anything nearby to push the center of the valve down. The tire itself can take some work rolling it back and forth to get it off the rim (easier with fat tires) to the point where you can push the valve up through the rim to pull out the tube. You'd have to do that even if the tire was off the wheel but at home you might have a flat head screwdriver or something similar to help pry it.

Yes, the liners would definitely be a nice addition too and I would consider if actually replacing the tube but trying to avoid taking off the rear. We've added about 750 miles on this bike since the patch + flatout and haven't had any more flats. (Knock on wood!)
