    Great video but the tricky part of the adjustment the only view we had was the top of the fender. Pretty sure I got the idea. You back off a half-turn so the brake unit moves a little. Center it and tighten down the nuts...the part masked by the fender.

    Excellent tutorial with a clear explanation. I bought a set of metric t-handle allen wrenches and some resin pads. I especially appreciated the advice on pads and the safety tips.
    The old inner brake pads had been adjusted in for wear, so I had to back the adjustment out quite a bit to fit the new pads. Back in business.

      @@PedalWithPower I'm glad you are open to suggestions Chris. 🍻 How about a tutorial on how to tighten the spokes on the rims to keep the wheel true so it doesn't rub against the break pads on the Lectric XP 2.0?

    • @PedalWithPower
      @PedalWithPower  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@winningtrade3419 I can do that, however tightening the spokes and truing the rim will not affect the brakes.
      I will try to get a video up soon on how to straighten the rotor. Disc rotors can wobble a bit and rub the brake pads. Some can get really bad.
      Tentioning spokes can help if your wheel is not spinning straight. But if the disc rotor rubs sometimes, then the rotor needs to be straightened or the hub is loose.

  • @freewill1114

    Good video, makes things very clear. When I did my brake service, I had the pads off and back on. I felt a little guilty because I did not use a new cotter pin, because I did not have one. Like you, I straightened it out and reused it. So, I figure if you can do it, I also can, but I am going to get new ones next time. Thanks!

    Chris, Does not squeezing the rear break lever when the alignment bolts are semi-loose automatically center and align the brake pads to the rotor? Then tighten the alignment bolts and do a final pad adjustment? I enjoyed this video very much, thanks. I am excited that I have a XP 2.0 being delivered tomorrow.

    • @PedalWithPower
      @PedalWithPower  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      That only "kind of" works with hydraulic disc brakes and dual pull TRP Spyre mechanical brakes. Where both pistons are moving.
      The issue with this style of mechanical brake is that only the left side(outside) piston moves when you pull the brake lever.
      The right side (inside) piston is stationary. So if you loosen the fastening bolts and pull the lever it will not center the caliper, it will push it to one side. You have to center it yourself.
      With practice it gets easier, but can be a bit frustrating when starting out. Just watch your fingers in the rotors.

    Correct me if I'm wrong once those bolts are loose after you put the brakes back on.
    You're supposed to press the back brake lever while it's still loose keep holding it don't let go then tighten those screws at the same time while the lever is continuously being pressed. This usually centers it almost perfectly every time.
    The only time you have to do what you're doing moving it back and forth trying to center it by eye and by hand if the procedure I just set above doesn't work.
    I thought you said you worked at a bike shop?
    I don't know I could be missing something but that sound just about every bike mechanic adjusts brakes whether it's hydraulic, or regular.
    When it comes time to do step 2 like you're doing when the above method doesn't work as I mentioned. Your best to get a backlight behind the brake pads looking down You can easily see and center those pads much easier.
    ;)
