    When I found my 1971 Dart Swinger with a 318 in 1993, the car hadn't really been run or driven since 1987, that included a tune-up or oil change. We started the darn thing and drove 40 minutes home. However only one brake drum turned out to be working so it was an interesting ride, but that car was a hell of a lot of fun.

    • @paulwells4203
      @paulwells4203 ปีที่แล้ว

      4 wheel drum brakes are an adventure especially if they need adjustment or repair. I remember slamming on the brakes and the car would dart towards each side of the road depending on which brake shoe made contact with its drum first lol. Have you still got your Swinger AB?

    Old cars are easy to work on. I talked to a mechanic in my small farming town and he said most of his work is on new vehicles because they have so many problems that crop up and are difficult to diagnose and fix. The cars and trucks from the late 70's and older can be fixed by the owner generally. I prefer 1974 and older.

    Guys. I am going to tell you something about 318s. My first car was a 72 Hemi Orange 13:38 Duster. 318 3 speed manual. 8 3/4 3:23. Bought in 1976 when I was 16 years old. Hemi orange with blacked out hood and orange stripes up the middle of the hood. I put headers, cam dynamic cam and lifters. Double roller timing chain and Edelbrock 4 bbl intake and Carter 750 avs carb. 2 1/2” dual exhaust and a dual point distributor. Borg and Warner clutch. I hit the streets and put many of big blocks away with this little 318. Raced a few buddies with 340s and took their money. Mined you I poured a lot of money into this little car and used every tuning trick I read about in Hot Rod magazines. Or were taught by old mechanics I talked to. Once in a while I would get out ran and lose $20.00. But most times I collected my wager. Don’t under estimate a 318. Stout little engines.

    My uncle owned a garage, gas station and wrecking yard since the 1920's while his wife ran the small trailer park behind it.
    We ended up living in her apartment at the end of the property in the late 50's and got to watch all the old guys pull every trick in the book and then some.
    The garage across town was where Reynolds' Racing grew out of and every garage had a Stock Car they raced at the fairgrounds.

    Classic. The fire extinguishers are stacked in the corner, right above a 50 gallon barrel of flammables. LOL! Love the progress though guys. As someone who watched $500,000 worth of restored muscle cars go up in flames (no fire detection or suppression systems), it;s smart to think ahead.

    I just aquired a 73 dart swinger with 318/auto 51k original miles. I had to replace gas tank and sending unit. Decided to change fuel line from tank to pump also. Got it running on a gas jug. Old 2 barrel no good. Gonna swap out edelbrock 4 barrel intake and carb. Along with dual exhaust....

  • @larryhutchens7593

    A note from a big dummy from Oklahoma. That's not an AFB it is an AVS, close but not the same. Accel pump is shot. From the looks of the fuel your tank & fuel lines are in bad shape. A tiny hole in a metal fuel line will prevent the fuel pump from drawing fuel out of the tank. Just a few hints.
