I brought a s21 ultra open box-excellent, I know phones are way different, but the phone is running anywhere from 900-1100 dollars right now and I got it for $720, and it works perfectly fine and there’s no damage
My 14inch M1pro is $2499, got it for $2323. It was immaculate, the only issue it had was a missing box. I was surprised/ upset when they brought it out in a plastic bag. Then I thought about it, $176 discount for a box that I don't need? Not a bad deal.

For your comment on open-box with “minor scratches” they’re literally just returns/exchanges. The system has that almost like a “default” condition even if it looks flawless. Open boxes are p legit

I returned a mac air right as m1 came out within the 14 days absolutely nothing wrong just too slow. I was really hoping to rebuy it cheaper as an open box online😂

Maybe they are too smart for that. They could wait a few months and gather all the returned products to get them checked and relabeled. That way people who buy computers waiting to rebuy at open box prices don't know when they will have open-box computers for sale.
Bought an open box Asus zephyrus, took it home and found out someone had removed the graphics card from the laptop, and returned it to best buy. Best buy ordered me a brand new one and had it next day delivered to me.

How do you run a full diagnostic on the laptop?
Even when geek squad said they couldnt repair due to back order from Covid19; they're refusing any sort of return for other than store credit..mine was close box.. did see where they recently settled a lawsuit in San Diego because of shady refund policy..
Strip screws could have happened in the manufacture process. Could of been there when bought new.
Bought a Best Buy open box Dell G15 gaming notebook and it stopped working and it was outside of the Best Buy return window so sent it to Dell to repair it. They opened it up and found liquid damage (which is probably why the person returned the computer to Best Buy), and said that they wouldn't repair it due to the liquid damage under warrantee. That left me with a $1000 brick, or pay the cost to repair it... I got on the BB bulletin board and posted my issue and the local store manager didn't have the same model in stock, but gave me a comparable one with the same specs from a different manufacture. I really dodged a bullet, but they did make it right.
Sorry to that horrible situation. But kudos to that manager, hopefully that would be the case for all situations like that.
BestBuy open-box is literally Amazon's Used-Like New.
But if the discount is quite significant (15%+) then consider it refurbished where some pieces might've been changed or the item has cosmetic damages, nevertheless not impacting the performance.
bestbuy's open-box is much better than amazon's like new since they're verified by agents
The bottom line is , people mostly return the laptops for a reason, then you are stuck dealing with that reason, lol
Not true at least in the Best Buy I work in, most laptops are returned for either not wanted or too hot which is usually BS because they’re gaming laptops that run hot

I returned a S10 plus. I loved the phone, but I changed my mind in those 2 weeks and stayed with my note 9. I payed the restock fee since everything was in box and phone was well taken care of.

I've had great success with Best Buy. Thought my last purchased was "Excellent" and I took it back. It was just a bare laptop, no cords, etc.

What about buying display models, they've been running nonstop for months usually marked as fair condition.. I'm on the fence right now wether or not to buy new or not
Too bad you can't trial an open box unit at the store before you buy it. The open box laptops for sale are usually stacked on a shelf in sealed boxes or sealed in plastic. You have to buy it first then if something's wrong with it then deal with the return. For example I wanted the 11.6 inch Asus laptop open box which they're selling for same price as the 14 inch Asus laptop new. Why wouldn't you just buy the new unit unless you really wanted to pay the same for the smaller open box unit, which was already touched by someone and who knows how it was handled.

I got an open box laptop. It was hundreds cheaper than the original price. I got it home and there was no charger.

I see a ‘satisfactory’ open box for the zephyrus g15. It gonna save me around $300. You think it’s a good idea to get satisfactory? Also with open box can you return them or replace them for a new one if it’s damaged.

@@jugliangummy886 I'm not sure you can test to see if it was used for mining or not... maybe check battery life? But use Prime 95 for stability, cinebench and time spy for CPU/GPU and make sure to test the audio for popping issues
@@bronztech if I see no issues with gpu, cpu, and battery. Even if its been used for mining for a bit it should be fine if those 3 + audio is good.
And you guys do know that you can test the laptop before buying, right?

what do you use to run full diagnostics TODAY on the CPU, RAM and GPU. I'm looking for the best open-source/free tools for EACH category even if and especially if that means using different tools? ANd when you say run diagnostics I'm assuming you're also including some sort of tool to benchmark test these things?
CPU : cinebench / Geekbench / aida64
GPU : unigine heaven / 3Dmark Demo / msi afterburner / GPU-z (to check the wattages)
HWINFO to check temperatures

I recently bought the razer blade 15 rtx 2070 advanced model and it only works while plugged in.
It took forever to get a hold of someone on the phone. Then they told me I have to take it back to the store and they will give me another used one, but they apparently can't guarantee that it's not also defective. Which is asinine.
@@imnotacat5299 its not really best buys fault they can't guarantee someone else didn't make their product correctly. They will always allow you to return it if anything is wrong with it
I bought an Apple Magic Mouse 2 from Best Buy and it said that it was an Excellent Condition/Open Box. Once I used it, there were many problems with the connection to my new IPad Pro M2. So I ended up having to take it back and had to buy a brand new Magic Mouse instead.

The BB Open box level is chosen by an employee discretion. I have "excellent" that looked like crap. So always good to check "satisfactory" and see how it is. Also you can get the Geek Squad protection. Lastly, the best way to get Open Box is when the item is ALSO on SALE, but keep in mind Best Buy won't match price or adjust price on open box items if the regular unopened box price lowers.
Good point - when they go on sale, their open box price goes down as well

Im thinking of buying a 1400 dollar open box gaming pc however, this one is open box. It was certified by the "geek squad" and I have heard that they are very good. Any suggestions?
Update: I bought an HP Omen 25 L open box for around 1600 and when I got it, I was very upset. Geeksquad says that everything should be cosmetically flawless and the pc should work but the keyboard and mouse came used and filthy. That’s not the worst part, the pc wouldn’t even work. I downloaded all the drivers and updated them but the computer would freeze when trying to run a game. Before returning it, I sent it to a friend of mine who works at a pc shop and he said the graphics card was faulty. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend buying open box, not even with Geeksquad’s certification.
I appreciate you sharing your experience and that's very frustrating, I'd be mad! Yes, open box DESTOPS are very risky, there are so many things that could go wrong. Open box laptops, however should generally be safer options, with the main risk being high temperatures due to a bad thermal paste job. after buying 15+ open box laptops that seemed to be the case for the very few I had to return

Bought an open box laptop from Visions. Had serious spyware on it. Did a factory reset on it and it solved the problem but not before having my FB and Outlook hacked.

Why, that happens woth brand new things too. Welcome to the modern age of mass made junk that isn't meant to last. You either try to save cash by buying a return or you don't and just buy it new and also hope its good.

What about open box excellent which claims to be as close to new as possible with no cosmetic damage. I can get an asus rog 5 with great specs for only $985 and a brand new one isn't in stock (for $1099) wondering if it's worth it. I guess I'd just have to look at it.
Check it out, run tests on it and return it within the 14 day period if you don't like it

Just bought an open box excellent TV, claims to have all accessories and no damage to the TV. Turns out to be a floor model that had been displaying forever and many accessories were missing including the box. Fact of the matter is: never buy an open box until you know exactly what you are getting, and often times it require physical inspection at the Best Buy store. The representatives over the phone will never tell you the whole story.

Update! I’ve purchased 3 different units open box and found that only one of them has high cpu temperatures. This could be because of a bad thermal paste job. I don’t recommend people repasting laptops especially with liquid metal, but I just did it and got 5-7 degrees in better temperatures YMMV!!

The laptop only works when plugged into the wall. The company absolutely knows what it's doing by selling laptops like that, that's a very easy and common thing to check. I think they are just hoping people don't want to go through the hassle of returning it, cause they are telling me it's gonna take up to a week to get my money back.
So I have no laptop, I'm down $1350 until next weekend, and I have to drive back and forth to fix their mistakes. And they offered me zero compensation for my troubles.
The company is a joke.
Bought two so far and both are laggy crap.
I bought 8 gaming laptops! 8!!! 6 open box and 2 brand new.... 6 computers came with problems (problems in the screen, touchpad doesn’t work, speakers doesn’t work, software problems). Both brand new computers came with problems so... I lose my faith in Best Buy. Btw the most cheap computer cost me $1500 so i didn’t buy the cheapest one so it’s even worse

@@dontstopme1820 I think most of the time, people don't know how to fix problems themselves or even update drivers. Tech saavy enthusiasts like us would most likely fix the problem ourselves and optimize performance/thermals. The speaker issue, on the other hand, apparently can be fixed by doing the EQ fix or updating the drivers (from what others have said). Luckily I didn't have that issue.

M1 Pro 2022 was hacked when I got it, I really thought it was just a 100$ less deal for store model, the laptop had fake OS store app I created a user name and was told thier was no account from Apple I'm thinking the whole machine was a fake os insane, they had me create Another account hacked in 2 weeks. Mac was aware and would not tell me anything I'm curious if he tech support was even legit he acted sketch About whole process and I was like how is this a legit solution to my issue none the less 2 oz of water killed it if today I attempt to clean. No signs of anything burnt, but am separate to know who I talked to on phone as I caught multiple logins on a firewall system that kept restoring admin privileges and hadability to erase all commands and shark history I was like how is this dude doing this, oh well they did not mention they have zero control over thier machines as simply changing the hard drive ssd date of manufacture gave him abilities Apple techs don't get . The Era of Apple is officially sauced.
