Know one could argue this is the greatest collaboration of country/rock musicians that only received a fraction of the attention they earned and deserved. I still think of them as a hidden gem of fusion exhibiting influence from more genres than most realize.
Right on man. They was looked over for ppl like Garth n Alan. Not saying they not good, but there's a lot of great 80s n 90s music made by groups such as these fine fellow rednecks that was not so highly playable in repeat on major radio. This is also the time when DJs really just hammered the same dam songs 40 times a day.
Awesome show and when they came to my reserve of cross lake Manitoba Canada and totally rocked that arena my late pops would of loved to attend rip Billy Beacham
i had the chance to attend a concert in Ieager,West Virginia and I will have yo say the best concert that I have attended , these fellows can rock the place
first time for me - Manchester England last Saturday they rocked the place and can that Fred sing the blues - never heard him sing on any videos I've watched so it was a surprise, he was brilliant. Well worth the wait for them to tour UK
I love this genre of country. Is it country or Rock? I've never heard of them until I saw Greg Koch do a review of a clone of the 1959 Gibson made electric guitar being played by Greg Martin. That's a genuine 1959 Les Paul Standard Martin is playing and it is probably worth $500,000 US. And they sure can sing and play. A great American band keeping American roots music alive! I'm sure glad to have stumbled across them.
i met this bunch back in 93 in a truck stop during the snow storm of 93. fred had red hair back then and Steve Miller was their guitar tech. talked to them for hours in the bus and gave them a big ole box of oranges from california. good seeing you guys again
stayed a couple of days in Renfro Valley, KY in April....went to the Kentucky music hall of fame....great place to visit and of course these guy were inducted in 2013
I came here from watching Greg Koch do a review on a signature model Greg Martin Gibson 1959 Les Paul Standard built by the Gibson Custom Shop. The guitar is a clone of the very guitar he plays in this video and it sounds awesome, the Kentucky Headhunters sound awesome! Anyway, I had never heard of them before Greg Koch reviewed the 1959 Les Paul played by Martin. What a great band!
@@EricNoneless 80s band "Cinderella" pops into my head. Can't remember the name of the album. Had a great "see ya later I'm gone song". "I just say so long...." Gave it to an ex for Valentines Day!!!
@@EricNoneless Firefall was the original band with the Phelps brothers. Then they formed the Kentucky Headhunters. Then they went with The Brothers Phelps.
You can see it @1:47 It turns the lights to a different color when he turns it up ' so it's a light switch of of the sort. You should pay more attention to that.
@@dougburchfield7364 Ok Doug you should have paid more attention that I was paying more attention to the lights changing when I was paying attention to the switch and the lights changing at the same time when the switch switched ' So how are you gonna explain that? Do you think the switch is hooked up to the lights? Or how does that work at the same time? If you will point that out ' I will pay more attention to how that works the next time and I can explain it to somebody else that didn't pay attention and I will tell them that I paid attention to somebody else that was paying attention. I still think it has something to do with the switch.
Ricky Lee Phelps was the original lead singer. He and Doug (the lead singer here) left the band to form a group called "Brother Phelps." When that group wasn't that successful, Doug came back to KHH, but Ricky Lee didn't. Doug has a similar voice to Ricky Lee and does well.
Saw the guys years ago and met Richard and got a signed picture. Real humble guy
This is what country is missing today. Love it!👏👏👏👏👏👏
I saw them this past weekend and they were fabulous!! It was Fred's first gig since having heart surgery, but he's doing great!!!
Know one could argue this is the greatest collaboration of country/rock musicians that only received a fraction of the attention they earned and deserved. I still think of them as a hidden gem of fusion exhibiting influence from more genres than most realize.
Totally agree! They are a fun band to dance to!🕺💃

Fred Young has the most wild mutton chops ever!!!
I remember the first song I heard by y'all, Dumas Walker. Your band had such an awesome sound, as did your vocals.
Awesome show and when they came to my reserve of cross lake Manitoba Canada and totally rocked that arena my late pops would of loved to attend rip Billy Beacham
The first part made me laugh... “y’all better get ready and hold onto your britches!” 🤣😂
I just learned how to play this , I think I will go down to Dumas and have a beer or 2 .
These guys are from my part of the world great singers I've always loved this song and they sure liven it up
They sound great and what a classic .
i had the chance to attend a concert in Ieager,West Virginia and I will have yo say the best concert that I have attended , these fellows can rock the place
Saw these guys several times in concert and if you didn't Have a good time at their concerts you had to be in a coma.

the "Metalica" of country music!
How about the Stones of Country Music?

Ah, so that's where my missing box of oranges went in '93
They came to our little town in northeast Iowa on a VERY hot and humid day July 4th, 2012. Absolute one of thee best group of guys ever.
The Metallica of country music👌
Love the KHH music but have never heard of the Big Barn Jam until now and I have lived here all my life lol Thanks for sharing
James Weekley I lived at Fort Polk from ‘02 - ‘08. Never heard of it either! 🤣😆

Never a disappointing performance!!
I’d like to see them in concert - they sound great. I liked the Christmas song at the end.
If you ever get a chance go I've seen them twice and they are amazing
THEY ARE GREAT!!!ONE QUESTION IS THE BASS PLAYER USING A PICK???????????????
It's hard to believe that the four men on this stage are four of the five original members of the Kentucky Headhunters.
Saw their lead guitarist at Dallas Guitar Show in 1993 or 1994. Along with Brian Setzer, Elvis Presley guitarist
That Gibson Les Paul Standard is way up there at $400,000. That guitar would be a number one any day of the week ...G...
That's not the orginal Hank the plank. It's his reissue. They look close, but I think that guitar got retired from the road.
Always liked this song.....did a lot of boot scootin to it too. Normally I am a rocker, but hey I am versatile (lol)
Brilliant!!!
There’s a lot of awesome in this video to point out, but Greg Martin’s guitar solo was 🔥 🔥 🔥

The "heavy metal" gurus of country music! Lol!!
Oh yeah!
Anyone know what the top switch does that Greg Martin turns on and off with that Gibson? don’t play guitar I just wanna know
You can see it @1:47
It turns the lights to a different color when he turns it up ' so it's a light switch of of the sort. You should pay more attention to that.
@@keithclark486 It's not a light switch. It's a pickup selector switch to choose the neck or bridge pickup. You should pay more attention to that!

Great looking older men 😘L❤️VE YA❣️❣️
I am older too now😘
Getter done
Hey Greg and Fred
🥰
Doug Phelps hair is gorgeous!
Xoxo
Just not the same without the Phelps Brothers...
What happened to the other singer they use to have I would like to know! They had 2...
Ricky the lead singer quit because he wanted to do gospel music
Ricky , Like so many others tthought he deserved more money being Lead singer, Allthough they were great buddies , Greg and Fred said BYE BYE
Gregg Martin looks a lot like Warren Haynes these days .
Come on Kentucky Headhunters! My Daddy was a milkman!. Not playing a Les Paul standard? Your missing out!
Led Zeppelin influenced country music!
listened with play setting increased to 1.1x. better tempo.
Different lead singer?than original?
Doug Phelps is one of the KHH's original lead vocalists.
Ricky Lee Phelps was the original lead singer. He and Doug (the lead singer here) left the band to form a group called "Brother Phelps."
When that group wasn't that successful, Doug came back to KHH, but Ricky Lee didn't. Doug has a similar voice to Ricky Lee and does well.
This is a different lead singer, I prefer the original guy!
