    I hate BL products, thought the Agro was the worst designed built and looking car in the world followed by the Princess, Ambassador and Marina/Ital… BUT… I find I love this series and the Princess build going on in the background… it’s the builder and detail that make it.

      That's the thing James, it's sometimes less about the original car and more about the creative vision. It amazes me (and makes me chuffed) that the Allegro is by far my most popular project car. Power to the underdog!

      @@andymccabe6712 Thats the trouble with THICKOS like you Andy - you always respout the shite that JOURNALISTS from Top Gear etc told you or your equally thick pals down the pub told you re the Allegro (or add any other BL car here....) being the most shite car ever when they were far from it. Betting you are one of these guys who wank every time you see a Mk2 Escort when in FACT the Allegro was a far more advanced and reliable car than that ancient leaf spring RWD drive rust bucket car was. The company I worked for back then used Escorts and Cortinas as company cars and they went through engines and gearboxes as if they were wear and tear items and we tried to get the company to get them to move from Ford but they wouldnt because they kept fixing them under warranty and because Ford sold the cars very cheap to keep the company car market. I and my fellow works mates never bought Ford after that and in the mid 80s to late 90s I worked in a garage and can assure you that BL/Austin Rover cars were far more reliable than many of their rivals back then - they did rust the same as the rest even though they were rustproofed but a lot of that was down to the owners not keeping up the rustproofing after the warranty ran out. We had two Allegros in the family at the same time - my brother then mothers 1978 Allegro 1500 LE and my 1980 Allegro 1750 TC Equipe and both of them were excellent and very reliable cars - my Equipe always had people looking at it and in it when I came back to it when it was parked and people asking me about it unlike my mates with their Escort RS2000s, Capris etc who never got that with their cars back then. These Mafias being exposed in this video here just love the dumb people like you and hence why they have been shafting and conning you since the day you were born deliberately destroying our jobs and economy etc as part of their agenda which includes getting rid of all of the USELESS EATERS as they call the dumb masses as exposed here th-cam.com/video/98qv9ztkW_U/w-d-xo.html

    Love you Jonny! Don't care what you say, this is still my favourite thing you're doing. Mind, I still think that engine is too deep, so here's my latest brilliant suggestion: get Allen Millyard to siamese and turbocharge two Suzuki RG500 engines for you, to make a 1000cc, 200 BHP turbocharged square eight Allegro with a six-speed sequential box. You can have that idea for free.

    You will probably need to upgrade your neck muscles too, if those lowback seats are anything to go by! On a serious note, the seats do concern me, that's going to be a powerful little beast and floating around on those old lowbacks isn't going to be much fun. Do the seats have a headrest option? There looks to be a blanking plate where one might fit? Whiplash is no joke and was a major cause of injury in older vehicles before head rests became mandatory. If you get shunted from behind, even at low speed, your head will fold right back over the seat and potentially cause serious spinal damage, even paralysis or death in extreme cases. I love the concept of the original look but at least consider fitting the head support, for your own sake. Your safety is more important than keeping the original look.

    My Grandad only ever owned 3 cars his first being an Austin Allegro in an identical color to yours but 4 doors. It was the first car I ever hated having spent many school holidays being shuttled (slowly) around Yeovil and the surrounding Somerset lanes. Can still recall the rough fabric seats in the back and the blanket necessary to cushion my legs. Jonny you’re a brave man wanting to undertake this project, yet despite my fear of the Allegro I’m so excited to see the finished project. Definitely a sentimental attachment to this watch dare I admit 👍

    Jonny, best solution to the large K20Z4 (FN2) sump is to swap it out for a K20A2 (EP3) sump, its significantly shorter, added benefit is losing the balancer shaft oil pump set up, gaining around 10bhp in the process
    As for the intake manifold, i'd bin the RSP intake manifold and go for something shorter aftermarket

    Johnny this is awesome. If I may and there's still time for it, go with a supercharger. The K series engines, particularly the K20 are spectacular with a supercharger, because you fix their low down torque issues without sacrificing the top end from an awesome N/A Honda engine. You get as much as 300bhp on stock internals and a bonkers setup.

      @@TheLateBrakeShow I was trying to think of some kind words as a response… nope the 10 year old me is still thinking yuk… the horror of following my dad into a car dealership while he pondered a Austin Princess in BROWN with a leatherette roof… hideous, to his credit when I was 7 he bought a Clan Crusader cheap (you guessed it because it was BROWN) and me my mum dad and 3 year old sister drove to Spain in it!!! SPAIN! How, he created a kind of rear seat in the parcel shelf with clothes and a travel blanket… my head was pressed against the roof, I would have made 6 foot if it wasn’t for that Clan. Anyway good look with the project and it will be funny to see it burn off hot hatches at the lights. PS. Don’t forget to make the footwell big enough for flares and I expect you to have grown an authentic 70s hair cut by then + jumper knitted by mum (in brown and orange obviously 🙄

  • @IanDarley
    @IanDarley 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The colour in anodising is just a dye similar to clothes dye, the anodising process opens up hexagonal pores in the surface of the metal, the item is then dipped in the colour and then in boiling water which closes the pores, sealing in the colour.

    Intercooler has to be in front of the Radiator. Otherwise it'll be an interheater! The radiator will run hotter than charge temperature, typically. I'd be tempted to add a WCAC (Coolant based) so you can runner a thinner heat exchanger for the water. But awesome progress, amazing fab work!
