Good day sir, my avocado seedling is 5 months old and I'd like to know how old must the avocado tree be before I can plant it outside in the back yard? thanks for your informative videos by the way. it helps a lot.
Story: me and my Nana LOVE avocado toast, so we started growing the avocado seeds everytime after we ate the toast, and now, one of them that we put in the ground and put a milk jug top on it to improve humidity, it’s starting to get leaves! That was about two or so weeks ago 🥳
When we plant young trees (just planted 4 Citrus trees a few days ago) we dig 4' long by 3' wide by 3' deep. Put in Gypsum to combat this clay soil, a layer of straw, some veggie waist in the outskirts of the hole, a layer of composted soil mixed with native soil, then Azomite, Earthworm casings, Mycorrhyzae, then another layer of mixed soil, put tree in and cover with mixed soil. Layer of straw (hard to get wood chips here without having to load ourselves - in our 70s - unable to do that anymore) for mulch. Water and rest. Judi
I've watched over 5 videos about growing avocado trees. I must say yours is the best. Great and concise sharing of your knowledge and experience. Everything I wanted to know. Thank-you. I am subscribing !!
Agreed 💯...I did the same exact thing except after maybe watching 10 other videos...This after failing with my first Avo plant. After watching this vid, I now understand where I went wrong! Cheers from FL
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your expertise. Your detailed description provides meaningful information for anyone that wants to plant an avocado tree. I wish I would have had the opportunity to see this video prior to planting my tree.
first thing I do is bless them and tell them that I will take good care for them and will for the entire life you need to talk to them daily send love to them then the rest is easy.
My sister planted 20 of them and she is praying for AVACADO to give fruits for 20 years. She call me and ask what to do as they are 20 feet tall I told her cut them. And use the wood for sausage smoking atlest the sausage will smell like AVACADO
@@JusticeJo Thank you very much but I did. Now I am planning to graft them. I have know choice. But again thank you as I have research about what you said.
I just put a deep watering system in for my Fuerte avocado tree. Wow, was that tough to drill down into the clay soil!! Nice video, thanks for validating a lot of what I've learned up to this point!
Your videos are really informative and helpful. I have my own passion fruit farm and I have adopted sprinkler irrigation just like what you did in the video. However, I wish to adopt drip irrigation instead because I think it will save more water and energy but i am afraid that the farm end of the root system will not get enough water. I was wondering if you could explain the pros and cons of drip and sprinkler irrigation. Regards,
Hey JAck.LOve ur videos. I have to ask u something. I have planted 2 haas, 1 fuerte, 1 bacon and 1 stewarts mexocola. The haas is standing for 2 months now but dont see any new growth. The fuerte has tons of new growth and the bacon also shows height. The mexicola shows no obvious growth but looks like its getting taller. Any idea why haas shows no new growth? ty man.
No. When to plant Avacato trees or what size? Is it better to plant when purchased or ackliment to whether for a time (year or more) than plant? What to do with Avacato tree grown from seed? Do they need to be grafted?
Avocado recently get much popularity in grocery supermarket in United States..! Best avocado verity one can get out of island of Jamaica size wise it is bigger and it has more pulp next thing our farmers should think about plantation of Jamaican “Akee tree” which more popular in West Indies....!
I have a 3-4 year old Avocado tree in a big pot. It all started with a seed. I was thinking to plant it outside, however l am not sure if it’s gonna survive the winter. We have up to (-14)-(-16) C degrees winter and very humid. Isn’t that to cold for it?
You are the best , I have question , we bought house with land in California but land is very hard and looks like red color and stone in it , so hard to dig , how we can grow things there , thanks
Our winter climates hit as low at zero to -5 and in August, +102. If I protect them for two years, it is possible to grow outside vs being in a heated-cooled greenhouse? What type?
We have a Hass avocado tree from seed I think its about 8 yrs old or so grew in a lg pot till a few yrs ago now its also about 10’ tall. We also bought 3 more a Catalina/Persea Americana 30 ‘X 20 & 2 just say Persea Americana 25’X25’ we did plant them on a slope (good thing) I’m learning after the fact shamefully. After the big “C” we decided to plant many trees, 2 Grapefruit, 2 Mango, 2 Fig, 2 Orange a Navel & Valencia, and we have two Meyer lemon trees, we even found 2 Apple trees for Fl weather Golden Dorsett & Anna. Oh & we replaced 2 wht vinyl patio doors newer but codes changed so used them plus plexiglass and enclosed a Pergola for a green house. Unfortunately we were repairing the home from a sink hole so extremely busy, plus chgd a sitting room to a bdr & made the spa area into a study. had wrkrs but so sloppy fired and redid all the wrk. Same on study except outer walls & windows & exit door. I think anyone w/a hammer calls themselves a carpenter today. So why learning about all the tree care after the fact. Good video thank you for all the great info! Will check out your others.

I’m growing two avocados trees from seed in basically the same hole here in south Florida, both are about 5’7” from growth this year ,so no fruiting as yet. I mostly just use urine as my fertilizer so We shall see!
Chris Sewell yeah in my small food forest I use urine as a liquid fertilizer for some of my trees and plants. Search it on TH-cam or the internet, you will see it is more popular than you think. :)
I have read that avocado trees don't have full capacity for self-pollination. If this is true, then shouldn't we always plant several trees at the same time as companions to help facilitate bearing a greater amount of fruit?
Very informative video. Do you have a video on avocado grafting? I have rootstocks prepared , but at what age (2 months) would be ideal to start grafting them?
Hi Jag, That’s an excellent video. Could u pls tell me how much fertilizer(Jobe’s Organics fruit & Citrus) we can add for a 4 yrs old avocado tree that’s is in a 1/2 whiskey barrel (around 17 gal capacity I believe). The tree is around 5 feet tall. I believe it’s a air layered plant. I had fruits when I got the plant & nothing after that. Btw, we live near LA(south bay).
Great information, I'm looking to plant avocado in Texas which is hot. I've been to the Caribbean many times, their are avacdo trees sporadically in people's yard or on the side of the road. The weather is mostly hot, is it because it's a different type of avacado?
What's the best way to propagate an avocado tree? I've tried it different methods and I've failed every time. I've propagated several figs with 100% success. With avocados, zero. I've planted them from seeds though, but I don't know whether or not they'll ever fruit.
I'm in Georgia too! Dont give up! You can create a microclimate for them by planting against your house, a wall or under a large canopy tree such as an oak. Keep covered for the 1st 3 years or so during the winter. Try using a thick mover's blanket from local hardware store and use clothes pins or clamps fixed to the branches. Also add outdoor Christmas lights around the main trunk and branches. All of these steps are the same steps that I have used to protect my citrus trees. These are the same steps that others have used to protect their citrus as well! These steps will be fine for avocados too!
I'm in Alabama also, north. I just purchased a mexicola avocado tree as they are cold hardy. My concern is this past winter we had an unusual cold spell that I don't think the tree would survive. I'm hoping the tree is able to establish before we have another unusual cold spell. I have heavy clay soil, so I'll be planting my tree using a mounding method. I'll give the tap root about 2 ft of actual ground, the other 3 ft will be mounded. I'll also plant it as an under-story tree to help protect it from the winds and damaging uv rays we get here. Avocado trees seem to grow well as under-story trees per my research. I'll try to remember to update you next year and let you know what my experience is.

You'll have to wait for 10-15 years depending on how you care about it.
Best is to buy a grafted plant which grows well in your area.
@@bhavintandel6366 update: a possum came and bit the leaves off :/
Oh that's sad. But if the stem is intact your plant may grow new shoots. Don't lose hope.
