This is the apotheosis of crazy film theories. It makes perfect sense in the micro environment; it makes perfect sense in the outside of film macro environment. It makes the movie so much better knowing this theory.
no it doesnt "make perfect sense" .. first off there are 2 DeLoreans in 1955 the 1985 one the 2015 flying one and the 1885 one which Doc rebuilds the time circuits with 1955 parts .. and also has Mr. Fusion so it doesnt need any lightning strikes to get the 1.21 Gigawatts ... this "theory" is utter crap
Wow. Three negative comments within 10 minutes. You’re obviously writing these before you get to the end of the video. You’re trying to find fault in it so you can make negative comments. Just chill out dude. It’s not serious.
He is right though. I was digging your theory until you the part with the 2 deloreans came up. you didn't even address it or try to explain. OG Marty brings the first one back and then moves to LA and Doc keeps it. Then Doc fixes it in 1985 and Marty brings it back to 1955 again, where Doc already has it in storage. So then which one does he fix and put the hook on? does the other one just stay in storage? What is his reasoning for not telling marty 2 about it? Also Doc is surprised and in denial at first when Marty 2 comes to him, when he should have been expecting him. Also when Marty 2 went back it accidentally/randomly chose the date, not sure how doc could have planned that. Or if/how/when OG Marty went back. Same time in 1955 or a totally different time? Just seems like creates more questions than it answers. good premise though.
I set it up like that. The whole theory is much bigger than this video. The answers will be coming in the next videos. Working on it now. I’m just trying to get it right.
Yes!! Workshopping this idea just makes the concept fit into the established structure and make it even more taut and enriched with this beautiful added layer. Goddamn, it's 35 years later and we're still tightening the narrative, like a BTTF choose your own adventure book, but in this case, deciding another time element or alternate reality, to see what BTTF-verse we're living in. Brilliant.
Update - May 2020 I've had a lot of interest in the follow up video over the years. I want you all to know that I am still working on it. I know it seems ridiculous but I want it to be perfect. I think during my exploration to make my theory work, I managed to fill all the plot holes in the trilogy. But to explain it in an entertaining way has been proving difficult. I want to make something really special for all of my subscribers and fans of Back To The Future. If you're going to build a grand unified theory of back to the future, why not do it with some style, right? I think my theory celebrates everything great about BTTF and makes the movies even better than they already are. I'm so glad you have kept interest and kept asking questions this whole time. Trust me, I want to finish this too. Making this theory together with my wife Liana is the biggest hobby we have and we want to let you all in on the fun. Just stick with us a little longer. It will happen and it will be worth the wait. See you all soon, hopefully
One theory is that the McFly's never existed. Doc Brown accidentally saved Shaemus thus starting a new timeline. Doc's interest in Marty is no accident. Doc interfered already and used Marty as a Martyr. Doc intended on fixing the timeline, but ended up loving Marty and seeing him as a son. So, Doc wanted to save Marty even at the sacrifice of himself. A theory "It ends where it all started" in 1885. Doc was especially unhappy when Marty arrived in 1885.
+Shaun I have heard that theory before. And it’s very close to the theory that I have, that I’m going to be making a video about soon. Hope you enjoy the video! :-)
Another one has to do with religious symbolism. Emmitt is time time is known as Cronos, also the creator of time and space. MARTY is also equal to Jesus, the son. Whom Doc created, to be a Martyr. it goes pretty deep, but in order to really know what the director is saying, you have to know what are Roberts interest and passions. Is he a free mason. Knowing his mind is key to understanding the story.
+Shaun I’ve seen that one too. I think to understand the full wider story (or in Gale and Zemeckis’ case, to create the wider story) you need to have rules for how the Flux Capacitor works. Any theory that doesn’t put that into some kind of working context can’t be solid enough to stand up to scrutiny. No one has ever sat down and figured it out yet. But give me a few weeks. ;)
@@TwoWrights But in 1885, Seamus already had a son, William who was Marty's great-grandfather. Even if Seamus died, his son would still go on to have his descendants including Marty. Unless we're assuming his father's death alters the course of his life to make him marry someone else. Or unless he saved William, the baby or the whole family.
An unrelated point, but I wish Part II was about Marty having to get his future son to prevent a major paradox, bonding with him in the process, just like he does with George in the first film. For fun, you could have Martin McFly Junior finding the 1985 version of his mother, Jennifer, attractive, just as Lorraine “had the hots” for Marty in 1955. Part III is where Biff picks up on Marty and Doc’s time travelling escapades and then you have the alternate 1985. The latter half of the ACTUAL Back To The Future Pt. II is combined with the ACTUAL entirety of Pt. III (in the West) to make a 3 hour, epic conclusion. To top it all off, the time machine is not destroyed in this version, and Doc passes it down to Marty and Jennifer for safe-keeping, claiming he now wishes to go to a wonderful future that hasn’t been written yet; raising his family. This is not to hint at future sequels, only to reignite the wonderment the first film leaves you with; "Roads? Where we’re going we don’t NEED... Roads".
I feel compelled to tell you, I also watched BTTF every day after ALL of high school, on VHS (of course) back to back. So, sometimes 3 times in a day. Why was I so fascinated by it, like you? I think a lot of people were. Going back to change things in our past, is the 20/20 hindsight that we ALL universally wish for; and this movie gave us that fantasy, to play out in our minds. Just my opinion.
I totally agree. I think it teaches a lot of wholesome lessons that can be applied to your own outlook on life. I like that most people's fantasy of time travel is that they can go back and fix the mistakes they've made in life. But BTTF gives you that but also shows that what you already have is worth saving, and if you work to save it, you life will be better for it. Great comment mate.
N ROOD theory wouldn’t work tho cause if it was true why wouldn’t doc just not send Marty in the past also if he ruined Marty’s life and Marty messed his parents relationship up then Marty wouldn’t be born and dock wouldn’t track down the McFly family because they would t be together or Marty wouldn’t exist
Doc never sent Marty to the last. Doc died and Marty tried to drive away. It was an accident. Doc doesn’t know how what’s going to happen if he changes history, so he tried to plan for every eventuality. If what we see in the movie isn’t the original timeline, then we don’t even know who OG Marty’s father was. It couldn’t have been George if OG Marty looked like Eric Stolz. Trust me, once you start going down the rabbit hole on this thing, it just gets more confusing. The full theory is going to be a very long video. I’ve been adding to it for years.
I would add to your theory this one: Doc killed Original Marty(Eric Stoltz)because he was Biff Tanner's son(Loraine was abused in the original time line on the Night of the Dance Party because George was a coward and let Biff molested)then there was a second(MJ Fox)Marty who doesnt looks like the first since he changed the past
Jack there is no proof Lorraine was molested by Biff at the original dance. Moreover Eric Stoltz, yes was the original Marty in the principal filming but they fired him because Eric lacked the comedic timing the producers wanted. Thus switching to Michael and Michael IS the better Marty
Biff would have no reason to be at the car with Lorraine if Marty wasn't there. Biff went there to beat up Marty for the manure crash. If Marty hadn't have gone back in time, there is no reason for Biff to come to the car.
Dude ive used this same idea to explain that there are two John Connor's who are half brothers. No one knows who the original john connors father is/was. The john connor we know is the half brother whose father is Reese.
I love this theory. Going to watch it again just see how this fits and feels with the new twist. I'd love to see what your brain would do with watching The Usual Suspects 1,000 times.
My Favorite Movie and Trilogy is Back To The Future.... I am 63 yrs old and still watch it! I think they did a Great Job....the only catch I noticed was the shot of a different speed gage in part 1...it all makes sense to me and I can follow it just fine,...I enjoy your vids but I think you make it too much more confusing than it is! :)
Jackie Valentine Thank you Jackie! I was inspired to make a new video after this one got so much attention. I hope you like it. th-cam.com/video/hra0LnidOVA/w-d-xo.html
I had a VHS copy of Back to the Future 3 that was so worn out, the first 10 minutes or so would blur or go light and dark, until about the scene where Marty walks into 1885 Hill Valley
I had a VHS with only the middle part of Part 3. For years I wondered why they had a car in the Old West. Then it would cut to Wallace & Gromit and the Wrong Trousers 😂
Can’t believe you didn’t mention Doc setting the time circuits to 1955 and saying under his breath “of course, November 5th, 1955!” Because that is what REALLY makes this theory make sense!
Hey mate, just wanted to say how incredible this theory is. I really enjoyed it and BTTF is one of my favourite films of all time. I would like to point out how Doc's calculations when the alarm clock goes off are wrong, doc tells marty to go as soon as the alarm clock rings but the car shuts down and marty goes a little while after still making the wire in time, possibly eluding to the fact that doc's done this more than once (multiple marty's running around in 1955) and in fact rigged the car to stall so marty would make it in time.
@@TwoWrights Your theory was really awesome! I have a personal history/timeline that Im working on That Goes in a direction that I think will be really awesome and keep the integrity of the time line. Yours and the original! Coming soon! Keep up the great work.
I never noticed the whole, "Twin Pines/Lone Pine Mall" thing at all until earlier this morning lol when I was watching a Back to the Future TH-cam review.
I came here for BTTF fun, enjoyed reminiscing about watching videos in the 80's, then got floored by your cracking theory. Eric was the icing on cake. Great work all round!
+Matt Bell I'm so glad that it has an audience. I thought this would be some fun thing for me to make for my friends. I never thought it would get 10 views. I think it's time for a new video. I'm finally starting a new one today. Don't forget to subscribe to see the next one. I think I've solved a long standing BTTF mystery and I think if people got blown away with this theory, they are going to love the next one.
Already done :-) I don't often subscribe after only 1 video but you'd won me over before it even got to the Eric Stolz part. We too had videos that were mixes of one shorter film crossed with another, longer one. In some cases these "mix tapes" were so beloved I ended up transferring then onto DVD like that! I'm just a product if the 80s I guess :-D
+Matt Bell Me too. I was born in 79, wife was born in 88. So our breadth of pop culture knowledge is pretty wide, but our formative years of childhood consumption lasts from about 83 through to 2000.
It's probably no surprise that I was born in 1977, since our recollections of the era are so similar! My wife was born in 1978 though, so our collective knowledge of pop culture peters out a little earlier than your household's I suspect. We also come from different parts of the UK (I'm from southern England, she's from North Wales) so we both grew up with slightly different programs on TV: Lots more regional diversity back then! ;-)
+Matt Bell I sometimes think I'm lucky for growing up when I did. Especially as a movie fan. I got to reap the wealth of creativity that Star Wars and Jaws inspired in the industry, but before it hit critical mass and dived into a money grab. We got to experience Back To The Future, Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones, Big, Big Trouble In Little China, Ferris Beullers Day Off, Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump, Beauty and The Beast, and thousands of others. Then Phantom Menace hit and ruined the studio system by showing the studios that you don't need to make a good movie to make the most amount of money if you market it right. Our attentions are pulled in hundreds of ways a day and it's hard to love movies like I used to, but I don't think people who grew up after the Star Wars prequels have any context for new quality film. But we didn't have the internet or streaming video on demand. There's a lot more choice available so you don't have to discern anything to find entertainment. Same as how all your questions can find an answer immediately through google. But you're only getting the answer you're looking for most of the time. When your opportunity to make choices is diminished then your ability to make good choices is unpracticed. Do you stare at Netflix for ages trying to chose something to commit to? We never did that when we were kids. We watched what was on. It wasn't always good, but you found great moments in good and bad movies. But we knew how to judge it. Millenials have never had to figure out what was good or bad. So we end up with 8 Fast/Furious movies, Tim Burton can't make good movies anymore, the DC movie franchise is a thing even though every movie they've made is decidedly awful (haven't seen WW yet though), and everybody thinks La La Land is an Oscar worthy film. The reason everything is a sequel, reboot, or franchise now is because it makes a choice for the target audience. Do you like superheroes? Here's some superheroes. It's the answer they've been looking for. The studio system is now just another search result. But we all miss out on the search and discovery because of it. And that was the true joy of being a movie fan in the first place. Food for thought.
Awesome! I used to have a VHS copy of Back to the Future part 1 as a kid and it always cut off towards the end when Marty was waking up in his bed towards the end before the alarm clock came into view.
Spartan K I've decided to make this series my love letter to VHS era movies. I hope you like the new episode. :) th-cam.com/video/hra0LnidOVA/w-d-xo.html
TwoWrights Great video. My VHS copy of Back to the Future was one I recorded from HBO in SLP speed, circa 1986, and that one I watched practically once a week for years...good quality VHS tapes back in the day. Thanks for the memories!!!
Charles Edward I've been reminiscing about the VHS era a bit more lately. I watched BTTF on bluray the other day and it wasn't the same. New video on the way though. Writing it as we speak. If you liked this video, you're going to love the next one. It's bigger.
came from reddit expecting a weird shitty person talking in front of a camera(just kidding i was going to say good anyway) , but I found an awesome video , u earned a subscriber :D great video brooo .
I like your explanation about huey lewis. That actually made seance. Also OG Doc would have been killed by the Terrorists leaving the time machine just standing there for OG Marty to find and take. You also explain how Doc and Marty would have met. It all fits !
Neat theory, but I would say 2nd Doc dies too. So: OG Doc: Doc is killed. Marty steals Time Machine that is sitting in parking lot. 2nd Doc: Doc helps Marty become a better person, helps his younger self by giving Marty the flyer, but dies when he gets shot. He can't predict he will be shot. Therefore, by saving 2nd Marty, he also saves himself. By befriending and turning 2nd Marty into a great kid, 2nd Marty gives him the letter that helps him.
Cool theory, good points. I think once Doc Brown sends the second Marty back to 1985, the original Marty would merge with the second Marty and things would be the way they are suppose to be originally.
I just now noticed on the cover art of these three movies that Marty is standing there for part 1, Marty AND Doc for part 2. finally Marty, Doc, AND Clara for part 3...yeah.
Here's a bootstrap paradox for you: When was the Delorean invented? Doc saw it in 1955 but "invented" it later on, but he only knew what to do because of what he saw in the past.
+MetsGiantsRangersKnicksNYSports I like this. Maybe Doc's calculations are wrong about the outcome of a paradox. He isn't really sure what will happen. Maybe the universe has guided Doc with the vision of the flux capacitor. The flux capacitor can regulate the changes in the timeline, which allows it to be controlled and that's how time travel is possible. But the flux capacitor itself is a paradox. Where did the idea come from? A vision? Quite unscientific. More metaphysical. Why would the universe want a flux capacitor in existence? Because it contains timeline paradoxes by melding the previous timeline with whatever one it is currently in. You've seen the box. Two lines in, one line out. It's overwriting the timelines by knitting then together. It's why you can't jump forward to an old timeline (e.g. Biffworld can't be changed back to regular 1985 by going back to 2015). So in my theory, the flux capacitor itself is the result of a paradox in the space time continuum and the universe created it to combat against the effects that Doc and Marty would have on the universe itself.
@@TwoWrights I'm sure it's not intentional but I always loved the flux capacitor being Y shaped. In Part II Doc is explaining the alternate 1985 they find themselves in drawing the horizontal X axis as the left-to-right normal flow of time. Then he draws the new timeline branching off on the Y axis. It always seemed like the flux capacitor, in an otherwise flat X axis time flow, caused the Y axis to exist both mechanically and representationally.
@@gonesnake2337 Can I just say that the last response from 2 years ago led me down a path to make this even more meta. There's a hint about a minute into this video.... th-cam.com/video/YM-uykVfq_E/w-d-xo.html Enjoy.
While I applaud your creative theory and the quality of your video, your theory doesn't make any sense. If Doc purposely sends Marty(Alternate version) back in time, it would still not save the original Marty. Instead there would still be two Marty's. The original Marty(car thief), and then the one that Doc befriends(The good Marty). The good Marty would go back in time, then be sent back to the future again. But the original Marty would still be alive somewhere, living his own life. If the 1955 Doc really wanted to keep the original Marty from getting trapped in 1955, all he would need to do is to stop his time travel research, destroy the Delorian, and never create the time machine in the first place.. Without a time machine, the original Marty wouldn't have a time machine to steal. The original Marty would never have gone back in time. Another way Doc could prevent the whole thing is to just wait it out. Until the original Marty is born. Doc could befriend him and guide him. Then he never becomes a rebellious teen who decides to steal the Delorian. So he never goes back in time.
If he stopped his research and destroyed the Delorean so he never invented it, and OG Marty never stole it and went back, Doc would have no reason not to continue his research because to him there was never an OG Marty. Him just waiting it out is what this theory supports. He waits it out and nurtures friendship with Marty. That creates a Marty that's different than the Marty who stole the car.
There some theories that support what you say. But in this movie's universe the car thief Marty would dissappear as soon as the good Marty travels back to 1985.
The one thing everyone forgets about time travel is every time you travel back in time you create a new dimension (timeline). You don't change the one you came from because just by being there you have created a new timeline.
Not if there's only one timeline. Don't trust Doc's explaination of how time travel works. There's evidence in the movies that imply he doesn't know what he's doing.
@@TwoWrights Marty didn't actually "steal" the Delorean time machine because he was so rebellious. He just jumped inside and started driving; so he could outrun the Libyan extremists who were shooting at him... So he's not really a car thief in that sense...
Great theory. I also think the Marty from BTTF 2 is not the same Marty from BTTF. It is the Marty we see at the end of BTTF, that grew up with the updated parents. That is why his character flaw is being called a chicken. In the first move it was not having confidence. That also explains the different Jennifer’s.
Kinda went off the rail at the end but once I figured out what you were talking about I loved it There are a few holes, but it mostly holds water. So OG Marty goes back in time, finds Doc before he fucks things up too badly then goes off to basically become the rockstar Movie Marty idolized. So Movie Marty idolized himself, which is kind of funny. It has to be because the tangent that movie Marty is living in was created by OG Marty when he went back in time. Say instead of OG Marty going back to 55 he goes back to, say, 65 instead. OG doc, the doc from the start of the movie, sets the time circuits to 55 in order to send Marty even further back, so that Movie doc is still completely new to the situation. Mostly he does this so there is no interaction between movie and OG Marty. I really want to dig more into this theory. It makes doc a much more interesting character. - OG Marty steals the time machine, goes back to 65 by accident and finds OG doc and basically explains his life story - OG doc explains that he can't properly send Marty back to the future because all he has is the faintest idea about a flux capacitor he designed 10 years earlier so he sends him off to become a rockstar in LA. He tries to teach him the importance of keeping his nature as a time traveller under wraps and OG Marty mostly obliges, rockstar goals not withstanding. - OG doc plans for 20 years, using the information Marty gave him to execute a plan that will jump start his scientific experiments while also giving himself the information to get movie Marty back to future. - Movie Marty grows up, befriends Doc, and when the time is right, Doc takes his time machine out of storage and sets it's circuits to 55 and sends Marty into the past, video tape and flier in hand. - Movie happens basically Now Doc has had 50 solid years of experience working with the time machine instead of none (if we assume that when OG Marty stole it it was a new invention) This is what ultimately allows him to be so prescient in Back to the Future 2. I'm sure he spent a few years exploring the ins and outs of time between the last two scenes in the first movie but if you follow this theory that wasn't really necessary, he's been working with knowledge of the time machine for 50 years - OG doc had it from 65 'til 85, then Movie Doc had knowledge of it from 55 'til 85. Technically those are different guys but what if a future doc appeared to both of them, disguised perhaps to avoid paradox (from what I can gather the true danger of paradox is when a past self recognizes a future self, not vice versa), explains all this shit to them and then takes off with the Mr Fusion delorean. If you go down that rabbit hole though all bets are off. You have a future doc, surreptitiously visiting all of his former selves trying to put the pieces into just the right order. This whole thing drastically changes doc though. Even if we just go by the letter of your theory, it makes doc duplicitous, which is a character trait the movie doc seems to not have at all. Maybe a more duplicitous doc would be fun. I prefer the warm naive doc we got though. The idea that he's playing a long game with Marty is a great food for thought but I don't think I prefer it
I've been thinking about what you wrote. I really like it. It made me think of adding more into my theory. Parts of it anyway. I think it's time for a new video. Thanks bud.
When you mentioned watching the end of Grease every time you watched the end of BttF I was sure you were going to connect the flying cars at the end of both movies. This was better.
My theory is that the boy who gives Marty back his pistol at the end of part 3, about ten years old in 1885, grew up to the 80-year-old man, "Wilbur," who was urged by his wife to keep going when Marty first arrived in 1955. Think about it; the youngest resident Marty encounters near the end of his last time travel adventure is the oldest person he first encounters shortly after beginning his first time travel adventure. And the actor who played Wilbur was a seasoned actor named Arthur Tovey, who had a small role in the film "Marty"...in 1955.
Nice. May I incorporate it into my theory? It fits nicely without disturbing my upcoming “Grand Unified BTTF Theory” that I’ve been working on for 2 years.
Cool, yeah, that would be great! I've come up with others, too, if you're interested...I just have to remember what they were. I just thought of the Wilbur one the other day.
That's similar to what I thought happens at the end of BTTF 1. Doc goes to the future and sees how screwed up Marty's life becomes and spends several decades rewriting history to make it right again. I picture half a dozen Doc's showing up at a non-descript bar in the middle of the night discussing multiple situations and experiments, trying to undo the damage they have caused. They can't undo the past, so the next best thing they can do without destroying the universe is what happens in BTTF 2 &3.
Logan Jonker This is pretty close to my full BTTF theory actually. I'm working on a larger video for it now. It'll be up in a few weeks hopefully. :) Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it.
The whole "Marty is Huey Lewis" thing would explain Back In Time, which we hear when Marty is sleeping in the morning, but it doesn't make any sense since the song talks about the adventures of Doc and Marty.Although it doesn't make sense why he would make the song but tho.
I've noticed something about Bttf 2 no one ever mentions. Being my video editing software sucks, feel free to make it if you want. In the scene at Docs lab where he explains the alternate timelines, he says "look what has happened to me" and shows a newpaper article saying he has been committed. Now the date they are in is one day after the first Marty shown in part 1 went back to 1955, comes back to 1985, Doc shows up the next morning, they go to 2015 then back to 1985. The date is still the day after Marty originally went back to 1955 etc. Now, if Doc has been committed, it means he didn't get to show Marty the Delorean the day before, and the alternate timeline couldn't exist as there is no time machine for old Biff to steal in the first place. Hence, paradox. But, that wouldn't make a good movie, but none the less a major plothole.
This is a hypothesis: Time travel is very tricky. I like to combine different time travel theories and compare. What I believe is that when Biff altered the timeline back in 1955, it took some time before 2015 was even changed. While this was happening, Marty and Doc traveled back to 1985, but not their 1985. I think that because of the time travel aspect of their journey, they became a sort of paradoxes themselves. I refer to The Flash T.V show. At the end of the second season and the beginning of the third, Barry changed the timeline to suit his needs; however, he was living there in the new reality for like three months before something started to give (mainly him). I think that when you time travel, you become somewhat misplaced in time; meaning that if something were to happen that would alter your timeline, you would not feel the effects of this change for some time, at least not until time has caught up with you. As time rewrites itself, you should be unaffected for a brief period. Now depending on what you change and how big of an impact this brings, you could stay safe for a few years, or a few minutes; this is why Biff immediately started to disappear after he got back to 2015. Note: if you read the theories, Biff was shot by Lorraine (Marty’s mother) around the 1990s I believe. So, when Doc and Marty ended up in 1985A, they had some time before being rewritten by the time-space continuum. You do see some effects, namely with the DeLorean. I believe that the DeLorean was the first to feel the effects of the paradox because as you said, if Doc was committed, then no time machine. When they do fix the timeline, it was a bit too late when Doc and the DeLorean were struck by lightning and sent back to 1885. This is just a theory, so I hope you enjoy it.
1985-A is a tangent timeline, the timeline of the original movie is a closed loop. They show this with Einstein in the first experiment, where his watch is one minute slow because he skipped over it to arrive one minute into the future. Doc and Marty return to 1985A, from 2015, after leaving from 1985, not 2015A, and then they go back to 1955 before the A-timeline can exist. In other words, because they prevented a change that, to them, had never originally occurred, their timeline was being enforced all along, so there's not actually any conflict.
This is so cool and goes along with my sci fi theory of rewritable timelines. Terminator was the same. The first thing we see is the second or third time around. John Connor's dad was originally just "some guy" and JC then went on for whatever reason, to become the head of the resistance, and no terminators came to kill him, *then* Kyle Reese took OG Dad's place and shifted the quantum timeline into a new direction, altering events in the process, giving JC advance information, literally changing Sarah Connor's personality to maker her harder and more combat focussed...in fact Skynet seems to be aware of the changes as they loop around and it *learns* from them as well. By the third loop Skynet employs the T1000 - also making sure to send the original T800 as it advances Skynet's progress. Temporal war of attrition! This is the first time I've heard a BTTF theory that encompasses this *time line shift* logic. BTTF itself does however kinda mess up logically...timewise a little bit. Really Marty shouldn't be in any danger at all. His brother and sister will be, cos they didn't time travel, but Marty would become a temporal artefact in the world, a leftover from a previous quantum possibility of a timeline - and hence he still exists, because he's come from that possible reality - but that reality isn't now the dominant one - just one of the many possibilities. That "parentless" Marty would indeed continue to exist as you propose and have to live out his life as someone else, why not Huey Lewis? Great theory. x
Hey. Don’t give away part 2. 😉 Rewritable timelines is part of it. But you are the first commenter to figure that out. But what else does the Flux Capacitor do to the timeline?
Lol. I'm kinda obsessed with Time Travel. I don't think it "rewrites" events so much as shifts them to another quantum focus point or "pathway." If you imagine a super massive multidimensional web, but all of it is "greyed out" except for one path through the web and every now and then at a juncture point, the direction changes. The other "timeline" is still there, just not "on" or "active" or whatever. I think. Lol. Wooo.
I like this. It’s very close to my theory too. See I see the the Flux Capacitor as a “change regulator”, which is the literal translation of the name. So it takes in changes in time, rearranges them, and creates a new future for those who travel inside the Flux dispersal field. This is why there’s 47 year old Marty and Jennifer in 2015. They left a 1985 where they existed, but as they are inside the DeLorean, the FC has to create a future where they also exist. The FC negates paradoxes this way. Doc and Marty were never in danger of causing a paradox because the FC wouldn’t allow it. But Doc doesn’t know that because he doesn’t really understand how it works until the 3rd movie. Remember, the Doc we follow technically didn’t invent the FC. He was shown it in working order on the same day he came up with he idea. So the Doc that built the FC is erased from existence as soon as Marty goes back in time, no matter which Marty is the original Marty. There’s more to my version, but this is a big part of it.
+Fioresi Films Thank you so much. I'm kind of shocked my video took off like that. What was your first move once you started getting an influx of subscribers? It makes me nervous, but motivated to make more.
TwoWrights Yeah man, I would recommend having a schedule for making videos. 1 every week or two is pretty good. If you have any ideas for videos right them down right now so you don't forget. Every video try to do at least one new thing to improve your content. Make sure your having fun. I think you have some good ideas, and wish you luck man!
That's a good one. Might I throw.q theory out as well?. A proper reboot is a possibility because there's still a delorean in the cave. I'm not going to spoil it BUT do the math in your heads. Keep us posted when you make that video!
Sniper 13705 Gotta keep you interested somehow. Lol. I like socialising on TH-cam. Not everyone is rude. Most people here are great. Plus, people take the time to say nice things, they deserve a response. I hope you liked the video. I'm working on a bigger video explaining my whole BTTF theory. Don't forget to sub if you want me to blow your mind and then put it back together again. :) Cheers mate.
This is quite a clever theory. I've watched these movies so many times and I felt like Austin Powers trying to make sense out of time travel. You know, "oh no, I've gone cross eyed"
+Kevin Vu I'm Australian, but I was raised by American and British entertainment, so it's an odd mix. But mostly Australian. Or as we call it, "Strayan".
TheMrSparkly Thank you very much! I am keeping at it. New video is already done! Hope you like it. Merry Christmas! th-cam.com/video/hra0LnidOVA/w-d-xo.html
Everyone who views this will now watch bttf with brand new eyes, well done sir, this is the stuff that dreams are made off and you have single handedlu (with the wife of course!) done something that all fans will love and appreciate, I vote you should present your idea to the powers that be and would make a fine script for bttf part 4 . Thank you and my hat is completely off to you sir!
Will Haskins Thanks Will! I am trying to give this a real go. I made a new video. Let me know what you think. :) th-cam.com/video/hra0LnidOVA/w-d-xo.html
While I know the reason is reshoots for Michael J Fox, you can see the cable Doc used to send Marty back to 1985 hanging from the clock tower in the first scene. Also the guitar that Marvin Berry had at the school dance in 1955 came out in 1959 so who else has a time machine??
His theory for BTTF is really awesome! Funny thing.. at work last week I actually had my own theory for BTTF thats not like anything ive seen in other fan theories. I need to flush out all the details and post it on my channel sometime soon!
That is a brilliant theory!!! Wow... the Eric Stolz thing makes perfect sense, it’s like inception. Like in the movie inception, the fact that Leo DiCaprio looks like a young Christopher Nolan....mind blown.... Thanks man that was amazing!
Thank you. Don't forget to like and subscribe. Share with other BTTF fans. There's a much bigger follow up video coming and I think it's going to be something special.
@@TwoWrights Let us not forget that the filmmakers regularly refer to the Stolz footage as 'too dark' in tone for the comedy they were trying to make. The delinquent OG Marty of your theory is a lot darker than the one one we see in Back to the Future so it works on the meta level as well.
Crindy Brimbus Thank you so much! I've made a new video. I'd love if you saw it and leave some comments on what I can do next? th-cam.com/video/hra0LnidOVA/w-d-xo.html
so growing up marty has been listening to hugy lewis's songs but in reality he has been listening to OG marty's songs so this film takes place in an alternate unevirse in hill vally a fictional calaforian town where he loves listening to a rockstar's song but in reality he has been listening to an alternate version of himself singing
+JarOfRats Thanks man. I'm glad people are getting a kick out of it. I actually have more to add to this theory. I'm thinking of doing a follow up video. Do you think I should?
+JarOfRats The fact that Marty came Back proves to Doc that his plan of burying his DeLorean in the mine worked. If they went back to the cave and changed anything, it could risk that happening.
+JarOfRats My original presumption was that he would have drained the engine before bricking it in. But I think he would be wary of changing anything else.
Your theory also works well for terminator and the original john Connor not being a paradox. Not my theory but when rich Marty goes back in time he probably causes his parents to become losers and when poor Marty goes back he causes them to become rich and a perpetual alternating cycle. Of course BTTF has rules that flattens the timeliness slowly so it is not clear if he will ever lose his poor marty memory. It seems not.
RedShoulderReviews Yep. We're old farts now. Back in my day, movies were on tapes. We didn't have none of your fancy Webflicks. Hahaha. I'm gonna go check out your channel right now.
Haha. Thanks. It's just Toy reviews and such. Haven't been too active to be honest. I've been wanting to switch over to movies but I need to learn editing a bit more. Thanks.
Possibly the greatest thing I've ever seen on TH-cam! And to think a hour ago I was searching mating calls of the toucan and end up here......... heavy.
I liked this, despite having not really seen Back to the Future in like ten years and so remembering nothing from it. I would watch more videos like this.
I think I have found something, you've probably have seen it before, and its probably not important but theres a Behind the scenes video from 1990, just after part 3's release (i think cannon, since it features the director and is the offical BTS movie-video) but th-cam.com/video/rocT3byoPko/w-d-xo.html it states 1985-A biff got shot by lorraine in the 90's, implying, err something, idk just something to kindle this theory fire.
This is the apotheosis of crazy film theories.
It makes perfect sense in the micro environment; it makes perfect sense in the outside of film macro environment.
It makes the movie so much better knowing this theory.
Wait until you see the follow up. I am gonna save the BTTF trilogy from all the other depressing fan theories out here. :)
no it doesnt "make perfect sense" ..
first off there are 2 DeLoreans in 1955
the 1985 one
the 2015 flying one
and the 1885 one which Doc rebuilds the time circuits with 1955 parts .. and also has Mr.
And he stole the car because his dads got totaled and he wanted to take Jennifer out to the lake...
+Max Hollenbeck Exactly. The more you pay attention to the details, my theory only gets stronger. Lol
Max Hollenbeck...Amazing that Marty still ends up dating Jennifer, despite the colossal change of his family's timeline.
Brilliant.
🤯
@@dobbysboggart6883 He's still dating her when he comes back in the movie.
Update - May 2020
I've had a lot of interest in the follow up video over the years.
100% commitment. I mean seriously, working on a theory for 3 years
You got this! As David Bowie would say, you little wonder you.
stay safe with Corona going on!
I just discovered part 1 today and, as a fellow BttF fan, I _love_ this theory and how you're exploring it! Best of luck creating the follow-up(s)! 🎉
Where tf is part 2?
"and this is why Huey Lewis is the teacher at the band auditions" HAHA I love this twist!

Good video.
Roads".
Bro...........I wish u wrote BTTF pt2 and 3
If they made another back to the future id want this as the storyline...fantastic!
First reply
david myrick I would like to see a back to the future movie with good graphics
Agreed
Its an enchantment... see it . Hidden in plain sight... Hollywood magic
i have watched 100s of videos online about the back to the future movie. and this is the best theory yet.
You’re not thinking fourth dimensionally.
TwoWrights what?
TwoWrights it’s a good theory tho but I just thought in my head it wouldn’t work but it’s interesting
But Marty wouldn't be Biff's kid, he's not the oldest.
Yea not a very good theory
I'd love to see what your brain would do with watching The Usual Suspects 1,000 times.
james mckey I'm probably close 50 times on Usual Suspects. And I do have it in my box of VHS tapes. Maybe I'll dig it out.

This has now been added to my "head canon" for watching Back to the Future.
Well done sir!
+Pepâ la Pow Wait until I make the video of my entire theory.
Ha
Can’t believe you didn’t mention Doc setting the time circuits to 1955 and saying under his breath “of course, November 5th, 1955!” Because that is what REALLY makes this theory make sense!
WTF I was expecting really amateur video making skills... good work man!
mirrormimi Thank you Mimi! The attention this got inspired me to make another video. Here it is. :) th-cam.com/video/hra0LnidOVA/w-d-xo.html
You're so getting laid dude 😜
WERE ALL GETTING LAID!!!!
+Dethicus_M Thanks man. I just think Marty drove faster in his panic and made it just in time.
@@TwoWrights Your theory was really awesome! I have a personal history/timeline that Im working on That Goes in a direction that I think will be really awesome and keep the integrity of the time line. Yours and the original!
Coming soon!
Keep up the great work.
I got something coming soon too. Keep posted.
This idea is so f*cking good, I already consider it canon.
Thanks. There will be more to add soon-ish. You’re gonna lose it when you see where that workshopping took me.
Except for the fact that Marty was a slacker. And probably too innocent and or too lazy to steal a car.
He's not a criminal.
This was great...best part was how Doc rigged up the electrical “For fuck’s sake”. Dying laughing 😂
Well now look what you've done, now I'm obsessed with this video and rewatching it again and again.
Any questions?
everything that had happened in 2 and 3 is in an alternate timeline from when Marty pushed his father out of the way of the car.
It took me a couple of years and a couple of rewatches to figure out that marvin Berry was on the phone with the actual Chuck Berry
Ok, aint gonna lie...that last picture of Rocky Dennis scared the living Elton John out of me
Great theory bruv!

+Captain C Music Thank you so much. I’m so glad people are still enjoying this video. More to come.
Spartan K So you watched Marty go through all that struggle to get home and you didn't even get the pay off? Lol. That sucks.

I like your explanation about huey lewis. That actually made seance. Also OG Doc would have been killed by the Terrorists leaving the time machine just standing there for OG Marty to find and take. You also explain how Doc and Marty would have met. It all fits !
Part 2 is coming very soon.
I actually just finished a back to the future movie marathon.
Any questions?
same
I'm in the middle of one. Just finished Part 2.
@@thevenom2731 Any questions? Lol
Neat theory, but I would say 2nd Doc dies too. So:
OG Doc: Doc is killed.
Brilliant!
Even explaining Huey Lewis' cameo within the context of the film. That made me laugh 😂
Cool theory, good points. I think once Doc Brown sends the second Marty back to 1985, the original Marty would merge with the second Marty and things would be the way they are suppose to be originally.
+Jose Gamboa I will be addressing this in the next video actually. Stay tuned.
What a fantastic theory. This would be an amazing prequel. Well done!
I thought my brain couldn't get more fried by these movies but you proved me wrong 😂😂😂
I'm here for the Sesame Street "Z" interruption.
The nostalgy has gained youtself another subscriber, well done
Also this totally makes Emmet Brown way more like Rick Sanchez. Irony!
Artemis Vega are you sure that Rick Sanchez isn’t Doc Brown?
@@TwoWrights Entropy and physics! This is getting deep.
Back in the days I've had an E-300-VHS-Tape with all three parts without the credit-stuff between the movies. I really kinda miss that a bit. ^^
@@robertorenteria3894 I agree. They aren’t the same. The end of 1 and the start of 2 are not a recreation but different instances.
I'm so sorry, but that convenience store joke was hilarious! Great job with this video.
Farlong Thank you Farlong. More jokes in the new one. Let me know what you think.... th-cam.com/video/hra0LnidOVA/w-d-xo.html
Kinda went off the rail at the end but once I figured out what you were talking about I loved it
There are a few holes, but it mostly holds water.
- OG Marty steals the time machine, goes back to 65 by accident and finds OG doc and basically explains his life story
- OG doc explains that he can't properly send Marty back to the future because all he has is the faintest idea about a flux capacitor he designed 10 years earlier so he sends him off to become a rockstar in LA.
- Movie happens basically
Now Doc has had 50 solid years of experience working with the time machine instead of none (if we assume that when OG Marty stole it it was a new invention)
This is what ultimately allows him to be so prescient in Back to the Future 2.
The idea that he's playing a long game with Marty is a great food for thought but I don't think I prefer it
+Altorin Good to know this movie didn't only break MY brain. Lol.
Thanks for a good laugh, mate! This is quality content here.
Wiss Miss Thank you so much! I'm going to try and make these regularly. Here's the new one. th-cam.com/video/hra0LnidOVA/w-d-xo.html
Great Scott! This is heavy!
Yeah, you're right. We have to allow a pretty liberal "suspension of disbelief" to just sit back and enjoy most time travel movies...
It either finds or generates a new quantum pathway. Most likely finds.
Holy hell. This is actually pretty well made! Please make some more! :D
Just finished watching Back to Future II again. Love this movie series.
good accomplishment man
+Fioresi Films Thank you so much.
Fioresi Films Thanks so much! I've got a big whiteboard full of ideas I've been jotting down.
Fioresi Films I finished another video. I'd appreciate some feedback, if you've got the time. th-cam.com/video/hra0LnidOVA/w-d-xo.html
That's a good one. Might I throw.q theory out as well?. A proper reboot is a possibility because there's still a delorean in the cave. I'm not going to spoil it BUT do the math in your heads. Keep us posted when you make that video!
Excellent! Standing ovation.
Jeffrey Dean *bows* Thank you, new fan. :)
TwoWrights Wow you're the only youtuber ive seen that responds to comments on a video from almost a year ago
TwoWrights i'll make sure i watch it i subbed
This is quite a clever theory. I've watched these movies so many times and I felt like Austin Powers trying to make sense out of time travel. You know, "oh no, I've gone cross eyed"
Cool video. Reddit says hi.
EFX Hello Reddit!
TwoWrights what's your accent?
+Kevin Vu I'm Australian, but I was raised by American and British entertainment, so it's an odd mix. But mostly Australian. Or as we call it, "Strayan".
Marty looks like Eric Stoltz in the timeline where that red haired guy pushes George down at the dance and he doesn't fight back
Ahh, you’ve figured out part of Part 3 of my theory. It’ll happen one day.
"No McFly ever amounted to anything in the history of Hill Valley." On a serious note, nicely done. I enjoyed it very much.
TheMrSparkly Thank you very much! I am keeping at it. New video is already done! Hope you like it. Merry Christmas! th-cam.com/video/hra0LnidOVA/w-d-xo.html
Well, history is gonna change
Everyone who views this will now watch bttf with brand new eyes, well done sir, this is the stuff that dreams are made off and you have single handedlu (with the wife of course!) done something that all fans will love and appreciate, I vote you should present your idea to the powers that be and would make a fine script for bttf part 4 . Thank you and my hat is completely off to you sir!
Came from the Reddit thread about things you're proud of but can't tell people. This is a quality video, dude. Keep it up.
Will Haskins Thanks Will! I am trying to give this a real go. I made a new video. Let me know what you think. :) th-cam.com/video/hra0LnidOVA/w-d-xo.html
I watched this video a year ago but the TH-cam algorithm turned it up again...your theory is STILL awesome! :-)
"Whoooaa.. that's heavy!"
Brilliant theory, lookng forward to part 2!
This is one of the cleverest vids I've ever seen! Awesome work!! New subbie here!!
While I know the reason is reshoots for Michael J Fox, you can see the cable Doc used to send Marty back to 1985 hanging from the clock tower in the first scene. Also the guitar that Marvin Berry had at the school dance in 1955 came out in 1959 so who else has a time machine??
That's simply a movie "goof" known as an anachronism.
Hmmm.. This actually makes a lot of sense! 🤔😀
FINALLY, a BTTF theory I haven't heard.
Well done
His theory for BTTF is really awesome! Funny thing.. at work last week I actually had my own theory for BTTF thats not like anything ive seen in other fan theories. I need to flush out all the details and post it on my channel sometime soon!
This is amazing. Thanks /u/latenightnerd!
Iree No problem. I made a new video. Here it is. I'd like to hear your thoughts.... th-cam.com/video/hra0LnidOVA/w-d-xo.html
@@gonesnake2337 See, you get what I'm trying to do.
@@TwoWrights Brilliant video. I love the theory, too.
very cool, original, and thoughtful video, thanks. it's really well edited for your first go of it! keep at it mate!

Back to the future is a movie that can stand all of this theories...what a movie.
so growing up marty has been listening to hugy lewis's songs but in reality he has been listening to OG marty's songs so this film takes place in an alternate unevirse in hill vally a fictional calaforian town where he loves listening to a rockstar's song but in reality he has been listening to an alternate version of himself singing
woh this is heavy
great scot
OMG im so cringey XD
is hugy lewis a real person in this universe or is he OG marty's cover up name
i love this theory so mutch
+WheeldLight44 Yes. The universe has quarantined Hill Valley in its own space time continuum loop, so as to not disturb the rest of existence.
I’m so cringe
This is actually an amazing theory.
I love it.
+TJ Wood There's more coming soon. I'm writing the next one right now. You can help. What's you're favourite childhood movie?
The Princess Bride.
Jason Rogers Inconceivable.

I have seen BTTF enough times to totally buy your theory. Thanks for sharing!
0:55 My reaction to what happened 5 seconds before.
This was very enjoyable, you should be proud. Based on your Reddit comment I wasn't sure what I was getting into, but this was good!
great video, reddit sent me!
Erick Rod Glad you enjoyed it. I didn't know if people would. I haven't made a video like this before. I'm already working on the next video.
Me too, well via the "Frozen video". :D
Thanks bro!
Keep up the great work!
Reddit sent me, show everyone, this is the best thing ever, I couldn't look away, or stop using commas
30 years since BTTF and this is a totally new, original theory. And, it's pretty good.
+JarOfRats Thanks man. I'm glad people are getting a kick out of it. I actually have more to add to this theory. I'm thinking of doing a follow up video. Do you think I should?
Absolutely... and on a side note, in BTTF III, in the old west, why didn't they take the fuel from the Delorean Doc came back in?
+JarOfRats The fact that Marty came Back proves to Doc that his plan of burying his DeLorean in the mine worked. If they went back to the cave and changed anything, it could risk that happening.
~possibly~, but that gas would have long-since evaporated by the time they recovered the car 70 years later. Just a thought.
+JarOfRats My original presumption was that he would have drained the engine before bricking it in. But I think he would be wary of changing anything else.
Im glad you linked your video in the Reddit thread that was a good watch.
SuperFireWolf Thanks a lot. I can't believe this blew up.
Came here from reddit, too. You're justly proud of your work. I'm no Back To The Future fan, but I really enjoyed watching this video.
0:47 the z from sesame street.
From Reddit! :D I'm also a tiny TH-camr~ and I like your voice. It has this nice crackle like popcorn. And this is really well made dude! Subbed!
MissFushi Thanks for subscribing. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Working on the new one now. Eek!

His mother is a drunk and his uncle is in jail it would make sense that Marty would be a trouble kid
I did this with Star Wars.. but on a beta tape recorded from HBO. Also, Rick and Morty approves.
And to think a hour ago I was searching mating calls of the toucan and end up here......... heavy.
Thanks! That's some high praise. Dont forget to share with your friends.
I liked this, despite having not really seen Back to the Future in like ten years and so remembering nothing from it. I would watch more videos like this.

This is awesome!
DENIS Thanks Denis! Here the next video. I hope you like it. :) th-cam.com/video/hra0LnidOVA/w-d-xo.html
Whoa, this is a great idea - very fun. Safe to assume there's a constant loop of Martys going round and round... so why not.
