It's hard to believe that the then futuristic year of 2015 is now in the past. It's fun seeing what the filmmakers thought that the future would be like.
This is why modern sci-fi stories that take place in the future don't use dates anymore You can no longer tell whether the future is near or actually distant
It's amazing how many things Back To The Future 2 actually did get right about life in 2015; drones, hoverboards, entirely CGI films, pointless sequels, 80s nostalgia, smart phones, fingerprint identification, flat screen tvs, watching multiple channels on 1 tv at once, face time calling, robot servers at restaurants, self tieing shows (though they only exist because of this film), A.I. in machines, & The Chicago Cubs winning The World Series (although, they were 1 year off with that 1).
It got 9/11 right when the thing took off when the clock tower got hit that arrow of Western Auto looks like a nine and right beside it are two flaming ones@@badda_boom8017
One thing you missed was the hydroponic garden In The kitchen …those are available today and many people have them. They are actually pretty affordable to.
Quite right. And we were even teased twice ..once with a maglev version that worked over a supercooled surface in a Lexus sponsored project, and I believe one other company was working on it...oh! The Hacksmith channel built one
We may not have hoverboards, but we got the next two best things. AT&T fiber optic Internet and TV and age rejuvenation centers, and which you can have a total blood transfusion and have micro needling surgery and laser resurfacing.
8:00 - _Achhhhtually_ ... While it doesn't work exactly like this, dehydrated food is *actually a thing*! Just add hot water, wait 2 min or something and it's ready to eat. I believe Military MRE's started using this but it's also available to buy. I couldn't tell you where though, but I know absolutely 100% certain that this is a thing.
I just bought the trilogy off Facebook Market place for $5 Australian yesterday and I'm up to the 3rd film finishing watching tomorrow night 🙏🏼 I'm 48 what a time to be alive
The last scene you show with the line "You mean you have to use your HANDS?! THAT'S A BABY'S TOY!!" Makes me wonder if that's related to kids using VR or something more, or they don't have video games in BTTF2 2015 like the Nintendo Wii U or Wii even?? 🤔🤔 Heck even the Xbox and PS4 still had you using your hands!! 🤔🤔
5:10 That's not a new discovery, that's maglev. We use it in trains. Specifically, the latest Shinkasen train also uses supercooled superconducting magnets.
One thing that no films from the 70s, 80, 90s and early 2000s ever predicted was the invention of smartphones. They all predicted we'd get flying cars, video calls and so on, but there was never smartphones in any of those "futuristic" films. 😅
The closest I've seen to a smartphone in sci-fi media was the Tricorder scanning device in Star Trek specifically the ones in Next Generation and up. I mean it was usually used to analyze someone's vitals which smartphones can do if you're wearing a smart device and could also scan the environment for all sorts of data although unfortunately smartphones can't do all of that yet. Star Trek got alot right though with the tech like touchscreen interfaces, video calling from long distances, a version of the internet with search capabilities, VR, and portable tablets.
There's an 80's themed bar here in Orlando with a full arcade and Pizza served out of the side of the TMNT turtle van and a Jukebox that is attached to a full sized version of Soundwave. Among other awesome 80's references.
The one thing that annoys me in this movie is when Jennifer assumes that future doors don’t open. Jennifer’s brought to her house by the police. After taking a minute to take in her future surroundings, she hides as her future family gathers in the kitchen. She tries to sneak out, but the door doesn’t have a knob, so it won’t open. Even as a kid, I figured that little tab to the right of the door was how you open it. Even when Doc comes to get her, she tells him, ‘the door won’t open, there’s no knob.’ He even tells her to use the tab. Maybe it would’ve worked better if she said, “there’s no knob, and I don’t know how to open it.”
The Cubs finally winning the WS (took em 108 years to do so since their last win in 1908!!!), was just one year later but wrong opposing team, as the Miami team is still in the same league as they are. I guess Zemeckis expected the new Florida/Miami (well he did predict that Florida WOULD have a baseball team, 5 -7 yrs before the Marlins and Devil/Rays arrived!) team to later be placed in the American League, and switch with an existing team, if they had kept the 2 div format, instead of making 3 divs of 5 teams each. 🤷
Interesting that the cafe had virtual assistants based on celebrities, considering the likes of Amazon's Echo and Alexa devices could at one point actually speak with celebrity voices and personalities like Samuel L. Jackson or Shaq. The Max Headroom-esque style and behavior of the celebrity waiters was a really nice touch.
When the self lacing Nike Mag came out in 2016 (and not in 2015) i knew the Cubs would win the "World series" in 2016.... well at that point it wasn't a great prediction since they almost won in 2015..... and why Nike does not auction some Mags every year for the Michael J. Fox foundation is a shame and a mystery to me!!??
I love this movie trilogy so much? I can’t believe they got 80% of the things right. I wish they had self lacing shoes? I know they do but nobody I know can afford them. I couldn’t even afford a brand new guitar. I had to win one and I had to get my dad to give me one when he was still here (rip dad yeah he loved this movie) we watched this October 21st 2015 both at school and at home. All 3 of them. Flying cars? My sister wants one I said one problem what if your car dies in mid air and your parachute doesn’t open? And your backup doesn’t? She was in the military. She probably does have a couple of parachutes. But my entire family loves this movie trilogy. And I wanna see more Elijah Wood? He’s one of the Back To The Future 2 kids in the cafe video game boys? He is also famous for many things I have watched the Lord of the rings series .
Great video! Maybe I wasn't paying attention (will watch video again), but you missed the prediction of Florida having a baseball team. In 1989 there was no franchise in Florida.
We didn’t get a jaws 19 but we did get ten fast and furious movies. It’s the idea that Hollywood is creatively bankrupt and keeps putting out the same junk.
I did a report on flying cars, probably in 1998 or 1999. They have been in development to some degree since the 1960s. I'm afraid that they won't be available to anyone but the very wealthy until at least the latter half of the century.
okay so i am re-watching this film and i stopped it at 32:56 bc i had to address the dead on predictions. there are a couple things I would like to add just 30 minutes in. #1) in Cafe 80's....there is a black guy sitting in the diner with 2 white girls without anyone creating a fuss...amazing social prediction!.. #2) The home had the equivalent of Alexa. #3) Flat screen tv's!!!!#4) multiple split screen images on flat screen tv's. #5) police ident systems when Jennifer is seen sleeping on the street. ... This film nailed it! If a film can just nail 2 things correctly (for instance 'Aliens" go -pro footage on the helmets of the colonial marines) then it's a classic....this film nailed 5 or 6 futuristic realties on the head!
I just now noticed that Elaine pulls that steaming hot pizza, on an aluminum disc, out of the hydrator with her bare hands. Pretty bad oversight there.
Yeah but when it Came out 2015 is and was 30 years into the future from 1985, But now that 2015 is now 9 Years in the Past, we know what they got correct, and what they got wrong, such as V.R. Well Speaking of Hover Boards, Zemeckis did say That They use Magnets against The Earths Magnetic Field, Of course he was Joking, But he knew Magnets would be involved. Well The Lawyer Jab was meant as a Joke, But Yeah Okay. And it's a shame that it was A Joke, Sigh, Arch-Nemesis Trump would be behind Bars, if it weren't for those Pesky Lawyers. Well about Time Travel 1.21 Gigs of Electricity Surges through to the Tachyon Filled Flux Capacitor to thrust the Vehicle through Time and Space. And Elijah Wood is now an A List Celebrity, When Part 2 could've been his only gig.
this is a great idea for an episode ! well done guys!
It's hard to believe that the then futuristic year of 2015 is now in the past. It's fun seeing what the filmmakers thought that the future would be like.
One of my friends worked on the self-lacing shoes at Nike as an engineer
This is why modern sci-fi stories that take place in the future don't use dates anymore
You can no longer tell whether the future is near or actually distant
_You better start belivin' in Cyberpunk Dystopias, cuz yer in one_

Yeah but the hoverboards were influenced by BTTF.

12:12 The "Surf Vietnam" sign is spot on
2015 is long gone, and we still haven’t got hoverboards

Yes. Rhett and Link in GMM have done one or two episodes about this type of military food. Just add hot water...sort of close to BTTF 2.

Nobody probably thought a Swiss army telephone would be a functional item.
Hate to say it, but we technically already have flying cars. They're called planes.
I like Back To The Future Part II more than the first one. To go back in to the first film was awesome for the time it was made. 🍺😸
I think it depends what you grew up with. For me, the first is the best by a ong shot.
The Multi-Screen wall TV, the 80s theme restaurant, and touch pad door knobs seem accurate to today's tech.

Just one thing...Life imitating art is not equal to the past predicting the future.
Tom Wilson said that he based the Biff character on a bully he knew in high school. Not The Donald.

Don't call him chicken
Still the best trilogy ever made, imo. Just epic...!
At 12:51 That is a very young Elijah Wood in the red shirt.☺
Great video! Maybe I wasn't paying attention (will watch video again), but you missed the prediction of Florida having a baseball team. In 1989 there was no franchise in Florida.
He didn’t predict when the rain would stop. He knew because of the weather service.
We didn’t get a jaws 19 but we did get ten fast and furious movies. It’s the idea that Hollywood is creatively bankrupt and keeps putting out the same junk.
Time machines. I use mine often
Great memories watching this movie. Seen it at the cinema in 89…
Fun fact, there's over 800 Texaco's here in the UK

They didn’t have to guess. It was predictive programming
Some of things that are assessable by fingerprinting is scary. I don’t think everything should be so digital.

Flying cars? No. Marty’s truck? Oh yes. They got that TOTALLY right, and didn’t even mean it.
They got it right that Cubs were going to win the World Series eventually. They were just off by a few years.
Why can't people make videos that have the same volume without random jumps in volume spikes?
19 Jaws movies... that seems pretty dystopian to me.
i love that movie soo much!
I just now noticed that Elaine pulls that steaming hot pizza, on an aluminum disc, out of the hydrator with her bare hands. Pretty bad oversight there.
Hahaha - what????
You really took some liberties saying VR is huge and a Siri like voice welcomed you home.
The 1st one was classic, the 2nd one was just so, so, the 3rd one was hilarious!
The t1000 isnt made of liquid nitrogen....
Pretty sure he's referring to the liquid metal that preceded his mention of liquid nitrogen.
Thanks for that - making a quick edit to make it clearer
Retro 80s in pop culture was accurately predicted too
Pizza Hut? Delicious? Ha!😂
l love how the kids are wearing pasta straners on their heads....and one of them becomes a famous actor eligah woods... later in his life.
Personal home cinema, with large flat screen, some are very large as big a a wall.
They almost got the cubs winning the World series. They were off by a year.
WALL E
was adorable
all we need for hoverboards are roads made of superconductors cooled with liquid nitrogen. c'mon science, let's go already!
Don’t forget the Age Rejuvenation Center’s.
One fashion trend they got wrong was the double necktie look.
The sequel was made in 1989, not 85
A lot of these 'predictions' are based on other films and other 'predictions' haven't come to reality. This isn't very ideal.
This has been done before. Do something new with BTTF.
Flying cars are a terrible idea.
Think about how badly people drive on the streets.
Do you really want that going on above your head?
In reality by 2015 they got absolutely nothing right.
👍👍👍🎥
