James was one of the best in his year, he was more than equipped to protect his family. When he was betrayed, Voldemort turned up to their house which was obviously a complete surprise, when he was rushing Lily and Harry away he didn’t have his wand on him, he was defenceless. James, Sirius and Lupin were almost like the hermione of their school year in terms of talent, they were extremely capable but they all died because that’s just the reality of war, not a reflection of capability.
Yeah I couldn't believe that was one of the questions they chose then didn't even try to answer....just elaborated on the fact that the movies don't make an effort to let you know in what year or even decade it takes place
One thing that you guys didn't mention is that Alfonso Cuarón had asked Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint to write essays about their characters and true to each of their characters Daniel wrote a one page essay, Emma wrote a 16 page essay, and Rupert never turned his essay in. When Alfonso asked Rupert where his essay was Rupert said that he thought Ron wouldn't have done it which made Alfonso realize that Rupert understood his character
Right!! I think it is a stretch. I think dumbledore just knows bc he is dumbledore and he is the greatest wizard and i don’t think he needs the time turner to know things
I’m always amazed and confused as to how wild Erik’s imagination and theories spiral far beyond what’s placed directly in front of us 🤣 the amount of branching off with different theories from a simple line of dialogue, for example, is both fascinating and strenuous hahaha 😂
Time turner access is controlled by the ministry inside the department of mysteries. The ministry gave the time turner to McGonagall to in turn give to Hermione. Dumbledore had nothing to do with it.
There’s no way of saying that for sure. As far as we know, McG has no connections within the ministry and no pull to get one random girl a highly controlled device. Dumbledore does, it’s a logic conclusion. It doesn’t define McG’s specific acquisition process in the books sooooo, fair theory I think.
@@nicholasanania2935 I know but the point being made was that it’s fun to theorise that dumbledore could have played a part in getting the ministry to agree, as he had a bigger plan, and there’s no specific evidence to say that couldn’t of happened. So it’s a fun theory with a good basis
But you didn't know that when Hagrid gets harry and gives him the cake he explained that hogwarts is under administration of the best head master hogwarts has ever seen,, Albus Dumbledore. Just saying for Eric saying he watches the movies every year. I do watch the movies every year at least once. I usually skip the first movie and I remember it
I wonder if Dumbledore had been wearing a time turner when his portrait was painted, would his portrait self be able to deliver messages from the future?
Erik I always understand what you mean in your breakdowns and understand if you’ve phrased it one way it’s because you’ve assumed we as an intelligent audience will make the jump ourselves 😂 I fully got that you meant dumbledore petitioned for the time turner initially with mcgonagall being the one to give it to hermione Also fully agree with your take on James, Rowling wrote him flawed, it’s not us seeing something that’s not there. She wrote her characters as real people and 100% had harry become aware of their flaws on purpose
The twins tell Harry that Dumbledore is often pacing in his office, what if Dumbledore stays in one place nearly all of the time so that his second time around he doesn't have to avoid bumping into himself? This does however hint that the map doesn't show two footprints for the same person, even if they are in different locations.
Also a fun theory is that the reason Trewlawney says someone is going to die every year is because it's the student who died in the battle of hogwarts since a bunch of alumni and family of students returned for the final battle! Obviously Harry DOES die, and the "grimm" She keeps seeing in Prisoner of Azkaban is actually Sirius but she never interprets what she sees correctly
ALSO there is in text justification for why Neville is so bad at school! The wand Neville uses belong to his dad so it didn't choose him! After his wand snaps in the fifth book we don't hear about Neville struggling significantly in class again because he gets a new wand at the beginning of the Sixth book!
@@Barbarbinks4135oh yeah! I like this idea. It also fits with Neville accepting himself for who he is rather than trying to be his father, after growing up under his grandmother’s constant comparison. After the escape of bellatrix he really finds his motivation and he learns that he is capable when he puts in the work, then he gets the new wand at the same time he’s realizing his potential. Creates this pivotal moment of him becoming a leader and rebelling in the 7th book.
Maybe when you get to 100K, you could have a timed competition between Evan and John to see who can put on all the nerd riot tshirts and/or hats at one time (like Joey did with Chandler's clothes in Friends)
The big glaring problem with the movie of book 3 was the Pettigrew reveal scene had to be horribly rushed and so his whole argument was made terribly implausible. In a show, you'd have more time to play that scene out and you could make his argument much more convincing. He tries a few avenues in the book with varying degrees of success. This is all quickly hand-waved away in the movie. But I feel Pettigrew's argument was really revealing. Imagine being the weak sidekick to the popular boys at school and getting your whole identity from them. And he was another self-taught animagus, so he wasn't weak at all, just conditioned to think of himself that way. Then he became secret keeper because everyone assumed he would be overlooked by the bad guys. So, when he was forced to give in to them, he must have despaired and given up all hope so he faked his death and withdrew into his animal self. But one detail I think is always overlooked is that they often remark on how Sirius becomes more canine mentally as he remains in dog form so Peter must've done the same. So his cowardice and self-preservation must've in part been from adopting that rat mentality, right? So his arguments to Harry are all about self-preservation. And the other two are all telling him about loyalty and you should have died rather than giving him James and Lilly which is exactly the way a dog would think. So I'd love to see this scene done a bit better. And the Whomping Willow scene looks a bit amateurish by today's standards.
@The Breakroom Missed the live chat as it came out at 1-2am in the UK. What I want mentioned is when Arthur is warning Harry about Sirius. He gets the amount of years wrong. “13 years ago when you stopped You Know Who” that is wrong. It’s actually 12 years
iirc Hermione was granted permission to use a time turner by the Ministry specifically to attend all elective classes. I believe it is something they have done before for exceptionally academically gifted students. That is the only reason she has the time turner and it wasn't anything to do with Dumbledore planning to influence the events. I don't really remember, but isn't there extra text somewhere on Pottermore stating that McGonagall had a time turned for the same reason when she was in school herself?
We need an 8 season show, the cursed child, where 1st season lily met snape then goes to hogwarts and finishes the 1st year and so on and when they graduate i wanna see the 8th season show nevels parents die in the war and hopefully Ends with voldemort with a full face and hair battles albus then ressurects and confess after potter
Albus is called head master a few times in the next movies. Yall will remember son plus hagrid tells Harry when he goes to get him in tht first movie that hogwarts under administration of the best head mamster hogwarts had ever seen.
James was a bully to Snape. Yes. That is wrong, however his hate towards Snape was not unjustified, Snape was already delving into the dark arts while at school, talking about him and his school mates joining the death eaters, calling Lily a mudblood. I wouldn’t have been the most fond of Snape either, also he did give it back to James sometimes. It was a rivalry.
No bulling is good. We don't need to justify it, James did wrong period. Everything else is just life, there is no justification for a repeated injust action.

Its a movie breakdown for the movie series 😂 not a book recap. Source material matters but the movie universe is in its own universe think of like marvel lol
My goodness. That time turner take. I've never seen someone do so much acrobatics to make a their theory work. Also James and Sirius are not big enough to carral a werewolf. They would be killed. A werewolf would not attack them in animal form, only humans. They kept him company
I'm very disappointed in the fact that you guys didn't talk more about the marauders...they were criminally left out of the movies and i wanted them to be more of a focus in the breakdown 😢
Sorry but you're STILL wrong about the Time Turner for Hermione and why it was given to her. HERMIONE was the one that signed up for more classes than her schedule would have allowed. Because of that, McGonagall reached out to the Ministry to get special approval for Hermione to be allowed to use a Time Turner and her academic record is why that approval was given. Time Turner usage is strictly monitored/controlled by the Ministry so a student using one for taking extra classes 110% had to go through them, not just Dumbledore. The Time Turner that Hermione used was given to her BY the Ministry. It didn't come from Dumbledore's "stash" or anything like that. Sometimes I really wonder how you pull these theories out of thin air. You insist/argue that you've read the book but everything I just said was IN the book... "...I got it from Professor McGonagall on our first day back. I've been using it all year to get to all my lessons. Professor McGonagall made me swear I wouldn't tell anyone. She had to write all sorts of letters to the Ministry of Magic so I could have one. She had to tell them that I was a model student, and that I'd never, ever use it for anything except my studies..." - Prisoner of Azkaban, Ch. 21 "Hermione's Secret"
3:23 Anything you say,,,,,,,,steve-o was about to butt chug hot sauce on hot ones off camera......Sean made him settle for something else instead that still scarred him for life....Evan and John both chugg hot sauce in different ways?
when i asked about the connections to hogwarts legacy, thats exactly what i meant. Little nods to the game like the knowledge that ancient magic exists, or using similar designs of hogsmead. maybe even the look of the magic could have some resemblance. I do think they should hire the same actor for peeves (he was perfectly annoying in the game)
