I’ve been combing the internet for years to find out what added that signature grit to the lead vocal. Guess I didn’t look very hard if this has been here for 5 years, thanks for this Eric!
I loved this and I'm 100% looking forward to whatever happens next with this channel. I gain a whole new appreciation for the music when I learn what happened behind the scenes to create its DNA.
Agreed. Eric, I'd be really keen to know how you tracked the guitars. The picking sections especially sound like they were tracked one chord at a time.
This reminds me that regardless of your gear if the demo isn’t that of a good song, it’s burnt toast. Also makes sense that this era brought constraints that today people will seldom realize were gold. In this case multi-platinum
Yes! typically on sessions like these we would use my drums and I would tune them to try and get em as close as possible to what I was hearing in my head.
It did! I don’t remember all the specifics of it but the flow of the record was definitely affected by the 2 new songs. As usual the record company wanted all star as close to the front as possible. They would put it #1 if allowed. We definitely wanted the record to start with who’s there.
@@ericvalentine5082 that is super interesting to me. Both those songs fit so well with the rest of the album and the sequencing is such that I can't imagine it being any other way!

This was awesome! Would love to see something similar for a song off of Songs for the Deaf or the Young and Hopeless.

Really cool guys!
love this. unironically, All Star was kind of the song that got me into music--and later music production in college.
Thank you so much for doing this (and NOT through mix with the masters)!
Awesome! Thanks for this Eric. Would love to see you keep this up. A taking back Sunday episode would be amazing! Fair play man.

This Is Golden A Must Watch 🤘🏾
Noting your conversation at the end about how things spread, I found my way here by looking at the credits for Semi Charmed Life.
This is so cool! I’m so glad to have found this
Just found this, thanks for sharing man!! It's really cool to see behind the scenes.
That was incredible. Thanks for doing this Eric!

Hey Eric ! thanks for sharing your tricks man! How did you get your Ampex mm 1200 to be so quiet !? i hear no tape hiss with those guitar riff solo'd.
he didn't mention that they initially stiffed him payment on their first demo. showbiz
Would be amazing to see you do "Good for you" by 3EB .....

This is so good thank you. 😭
Did you tune the kick (and the kit)? It sounds insane.
Yes! typically on sessions like these we would use my drums and I would tune them to try and get em as close as possible to what I was hearing in my head.
YES

Hey I think I went to that one! That was at Sterlingfest right?
He wears that shirt in every video I've seen him in haha
Haha!! You got me! I guess I am fond of that shirt for this sort of thing. I'm gonna have to get more shirts!! :)
did the track order change from when you first submitted the album to the second time when you added "all star" and "then the morning comes"?
It did! I don’t remember all the specifics of it but the flow of the record was definitely affected by the 2 new songs. As usual the record company wanted all star as close to the front as possible. They would put it #1 if allowed. We definitely wanted the record to start with who’s there.

The 5th... :) I bet George Martin would have appreciated that comment.
As soon as the song started I fucking lost it. The memes have ruined this song.
I hope you'll talk about Walkin On The Sun someday :0
I second that
