Thanks Eric, I love that plug in too. A video on your approach to drum tuning would be insightful. Your drum sounds are always tops. ✌️✌️

This is a great video series. Thank you, Eric!
    Both sound very good.
The high-highs sound more relaxed on the hardware to me. It's like you get the brightness without the "spit" on the hardware. The software sounds pretty much the same but those highs are just more pleasant on the hardware to me. Very cool. Looking forward to the Iron Age Audio kit.

Yes! Very well put re: "relaxed". I thought the very same thing.

great video and comparison. the drive knob is where this plugin shines for me - squeezes the sound, especially the low end, in a very unique and pleasing way.

a similar plugin that nailed it was the Acustica Audio Silk Eq. This plugin miraculously nailed the hardware magic and character.

So great man. I love your videos! This is an eq plugin I have always overlooked though I've owned it for years. I will definitely be grabbing for it and taking it for a spin now. Thank you! :)

Got myself a pair of Siemens 295b some years ago, loved them to death. Finding that they replaced the Chandler Limited Curve Bender I had before, the best electric guitar EQ. Just like the Helios 69 eqs the W295b is the only eq´s that can boost 1k-3k and still sound smooth. Thanks for making these videos Eric. /Olof

Awesome. Just got this with the bundle and was curious about its quality. Super cool to see. The hardware sounds a bit more homogenous or complete as a full sound. Really interesting to hear that side by side comparison. Thanks!

I believe you are spot on with the little differences between digital and analog. For what it's worth, I tend to add a little compression to the digital plugins when I want a more classic sound. Not a lot, just enough to control the transients and knock em down about 2-3db. Good stuff my brutha!

This plug-in is a great. Compared to something like a cl1b emulation which doesn’t even come close to the hardware this plug-in really shines through as an almost perfect emulation.

I just bought that EQ on your recommendation. But, I gotta say the hardware is still where it's at. We'll live in a hybrid world for some time. I'm personally putting my future dollars towards hardware only. It's just superior in terms of sound quality, not so much in convenience or usability (can't use it across multiple tracks at once) but in the end for me, sound trumps everything else.

    Hi Eric,
thanks for this great video and all the other ones on your channel.
Could you elaborate a little bit about your general setup in one of the next episodes?
    - Do you use a Pro Tools System?
    - I can see an Orion Interface as well as the Lynx Aurora (n). How do you combine these different interfaces?
    - How about the monitoring level when you are mixing? The Strauss system is, if I recall correctly not the loudest one...
Getting some insights about these matters would be just awesome.
    Thanks for sharing your talent.
    Florian

Man unfortunatly the analog one SLAPPS. if you want to buy the but dont want the hastle of very old hardware gear, get the mother WAI 2950. They sound absolutly mind blowing.

The plug in is very very close but as you stated there is an overall fullness on the hardware piece that really can be heard/felt. However having the plug in in addition is great as you can have many of them for different instances.

I notice you use SIE-Q a lot. Eric, what things do you like specifically prefer about this EQ compared to that of a Neve or a Pultec? What about vs Maag EQ4? Other than using EQ, what are some other ways you like to transform a sound from darker to brighter?

I’m very curious about the difference the sample rate may do to the plugin. Can you shed some light on that matter. Thank you.

Hey could you please please do a comparison with the The J37 and the waves plug-in. I know you did a little on the track you did with your wive but im curious to see if you really mess with the setting more to try to match it regardless of matching the setting perfectly together. my theory is that you have to crank things a bit more on the plug-in. Even using other plug-ins to just get it as close as you possibly can to the real J37

Hi Eric, the hardware is better. I'm sure you appreciate the difference. The SIE, like all of these emulations can deliver the impression of the hardware, but the hardware articulates the details and the details REALLY matter, close sort of means nothing to me, if its close then something is missing or off and those hardware companies made their reputation by delivering tone that is consistent throughout. The immediate issue I hear, is how the plugin bunches up in the upper mids to high end, that is simply not the case with the hardware, and this will be a quality echoed throughout the processing in every area even if it is not immediately obvious.
I think the conversation around digital is about to shift quite dramatically, for 20-30 years, we've been somewhat hypnotised by the progress being made, but our ears are beoming accustomed to the plugin shortfall. I think many people are about to wake up and realise that close simply is not good enough if you really want to capture, or create tone.

  • @effyiew7318
    @effyiew7318 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Big difference between the hardware and the plug . The hardware has this "bigness" and sort of glues everything together. The plug in sounds very "pokey". If you're not catching that Eric, listen to the snare, you'll hear it right away. That's where it's most evident. It's even more obvious on the vocal. Listen to the very high frequencies - the hardware has this silky sound and the plug in sounds somewhat grainy. It jumps right out of the monitors at you the minute you switch - you can't miss it.

Could you please A/B your demos & shootouts @ the same output volume? I mean its pretty much impossible to know if it's improving the sound when your doing 2 eq boosts + 2 more super large eq boosts (& no cuts) compared to without those being like 10db or more lower in volume. When I see this kind of thing by professionals(especially since you did gain match multiple other times even in this one video) its really difficult to believe it's not intentional to desieve viewers & shill a product.
