    Hey Eric I have to tell you Thank You so damn much for this! My 20 year old son Ian past away on 08/13/19 and watching your videos really have been helping me. Music (especially that new Tool album), humor and these “behind the scenes” videos are a life savor (literally) for me. So I hope you see this and know that what may seem trivial to you has really meant so much to me these past few weeks, Thank you Eric.

      I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. As a new father I couldn’t even start imagine what it would be like to lose my son. It seems so unnatural to outlive your child. I lost my father very unexpectedly 12 years ago. It was my first experience with REAL loss. It was my first experience with pain that I couldn’t simply rationalize away. The only cure for me was time. It took time for me to get to a place where wasn’t ONLY feeling the loss when I thought about my father. I am now at place where where I feel joy and gratitude for the amazing time we did have together. I will always miss him and, at times, still wish he was here, but those feelings are wrapped in the happiness and warmth of knowing that I was lucky enough to be his son. I don’t know you but I know you will find your way to that place. It just takes time. If these videos are making the journey through this time any easier, then I know they are worth something. My heart goes out to you and your family.

    Hey Eric, two years into my youtube university music production degree. I was introduced to you by Warren's interview not sure how long ago, but I just found your channel and you are a great chill session. I really enjoy your work and expertise.

    I'm not watching your videos in any particular order, but this is another great one. Thanks so much, Eric. Also thanks for wearing that shirt, I just stole the idea and ordered the same thing for my mom! (She's a big NASA fan)

    Nice nuggets of info..I love how you broke things down, and even shared your workflow docs. That is HUGE for aspiring mixers! Very insightful. Thanks! Btw, I would love anything you can share about the Joe Satriani sessions. Thanks again

    EV: You can make Google Docs you share "read only" so no one can mess with them.

    • @mrwev
      @mrwev  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK yeah I thought about that but I wasn't sure that people would be able to download/copy them to make use of them if I did that. Maybe I'll experiment with that if there is another round of this. Thanks for mentioning it!

    • @joshofsorts
      @joshofsorts 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrwev Google Drive does allow you to make a copy of a file that is shared with you that is read only (I just double checked), so that is not an issue.

    Would love to see a Lostprophets Production Breakdown episode (minus vocals 😬) thats is probably my all time favourite record!
    I think I would be content and die happy if there was an episode on that album 😂
    thanks Eric for all your efforts!

    This is amazingly valuable. Thank you. I’d love to see a video about how you run a session, e.g. recording drum takes for a song. I’d bet you have tricks and tips that would never cross my mind. There are so many videos about this sort of thing but I would so love to see a respected professional’s workflow.

    Eric, I love your shirt, and your videos, awesome! Would it be possible to do a drum tuning vid? I know the world doesn't need another drum tuning video but I'm sure if you did one it would be coveted.

    I'm experimenting with that new site called filepass that's being developed by mixer brian hood. You can upload a mix there that you can choose to be downloadable or not and different people can add markers for revisions along the song with their names attached and then you can update with a new iteration of the mix etc. So far it seems very promising.

    Great stuff by the way. I just started making my own spreadsheets for tracking.

    • @mrwev
      @mrwev  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are shortcut links to the two plugin folders that are used by pro tools. One holds all of the axx versions and one holds the dpm versions. I keep em handy so I dont have to dig around for them whenever I need to change something with the plugins :)

      MAKING RECORDS with ERIC VALENTINE that ‘s what I was thinking. Great idea. Thank you!
      This is honestly one of my favorite of all the videos you’ve released. Coming up with decent and efficient documentation can be a life saver.
      That drum mix on Mexican Fender is amazing by the way. There’s so few mixers who put the drums really up front in the mix without drowning them in that generic “huge room” with reverb rock sound.

    • @mrwev

      Josua Palmanshofer I do! I use Dropbox. My active sessions live in 3 places. The working drive, a backup drive (sync’d with syncx every night ) and Dropbox. Good question!!

    eric if you were working on a soundgarden record and could only use 5 hardware units what would they be to top king animal, that snare yum, talking saturation, eq, two comps and one effects unit, we will dream of rooms mics and tape machine and console, curious to hear your thoughts, crispy saturated thoughts :)

    • @mrwev
      @mrwev  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think I would go for A Distressor, UnFairchild, MPEQ-1, Chandler Tube Driver and J37 Tape Machine. I think I could everything done with those 5 items :)

      @@mrwev right on, i have complete faith in your toolbox, if i get the money sorted my band ssyne will bring the map and you have the sonic compass, the songs are in the pipe, i m sure soundgarden would approve, there lay the bar, will hopefully be in touch one day, the only thing is it can only be 5 mics too :) 5 outboard 5 mics five songs may 2020 the fifteenth of the 5th, you good in england somewhere :)
