I think the greatest challenge for two individuals who come together and decide to marry is the willingness to compromise and the understanding that your life cannot be like before you were married, no matter how accommodating each partner is to the other. Your life WILL change, like it or not, and some changes you will like, but there will inevitably be some changes you don’t like because it will affect how you lived (and enjoyed) your previous solo lifestyle. Sacrifices will have to be made on both sides. Sometimes for people who have enjoyed the benefits of a solo life, it may be hard to give up some things in their lives. But marriage is about taking both the good and the bad over the long term with your partner and learning to enjoy the highs and be resilient during the lows. After 2 failed relationships, that is what I’ve learnt and am trying to apply every day to my current relationship. Communication is so important, but so is patience and understanding when communication sometimes breaks down.

What I feel. But it’s all up to you.
Human emotion is like gravity. It naturally will pull you down to earth. Most people find it hard to go against human emotions.
That’s why most people want to marry. Then they find themsleves in situations they did not expect and it became very stressful.
Most people don;t realise that when you marry a person. You don’t just marry A person. You marry to his entire family. Mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother and sister in-laws...ect. They also have expectation of you. Most times, marriage is not just a two person affair. Your spouse maybe the most perfect person you can ever look for. But his mather, his father, his siblings can be a real pain in the butt.
Once a man is married, he cannot just meet another woman one on one as he likes. Imagine his wife meeting a man one on one? Because there will be eyes looking. And also there is emotions. sometimes, things can go wrong somewhere. Sometimes, you just do not know how your own emotions can betray you. When it comes to the opposite gender, especially if he is also married, you just have to be more careful. You may think you know yourself, but what about him? Do you know what he maybe thinking? Especially if his marriage may not actually happy? Just don't be too sure. And even if two of you are neutral. There are lots of eyes out there. Friends, family members, colleagues, associates, co workers. People talk, people gossip. And something so innocent can easily go wrong, even if it is not your faults. That is one of the prices to pay for being married: Your life is no longer 100% yours anymore. You dun own your life a 100% anymore. You share it with someone else. You are expected to obey certain rules, just to keep a peace of mind in a relationship. And of couse, there are rare exceptions. But those are very very rare. Marriage is a life of bondages. Remember that.
Sorry to you, your expectation of a perfect spouse is just too perfect. I am sure 1 in 10 million out there may meet all your needs. Just stay happy and contended as you are. You dunno what is freedom until you lose it. I have seen too many sad stories in marriages. Too many as compares to too few who made it through.
Marriage life and single life are not the only lifestyles in this world. There is something which most people have no knowledge of. Something out of the ordinary. And that is the spiritual life. What is a spiritual lifestyle?
Spiritual life is a life of self-cultivation, spiritual progress, discipline and freedom. The freedom to grow as a person. The freedom to travel as you like without having to report to someone. The freedom to connect with God easily. Along with that, the freedom to be protected by God. But there is a price to pay here too. It’s a life of celibacy.
Like I say, human emotion is like gravity. It can pull you down naturally. To go against gravity is very very very hard. One of the elements of this gravity is sexual desire and human companionship. Only divine connection and the surrender to God’s Will can do it.

Definitely interesting topics Ms K. Good luck with finding the person you are looking for. I find that when a lot of people are talking about marriage, the most important thing that seems to get left out is the person they want to marry - it's often about the act rather than the person. I agree with you about communication being an important part of any relationship. Being able to talk openly about everything makes the issues that much smaller. I have been fortunate to have been married for the past 33 years - in fact we had our 32nd anniversary at MBS over New Year. We could not have made it this far without communication being a big part of how we do things. Thanks for the great content.

Consistency, Responsible, Have Belief, Not Shallow and Able to Communicate - thank you for this video. Good thoughts and advice once again. Very interesting thought on compatibility versus communication. Probably there needs to have some common ground for communication.
But i do see this similar to the why society writes about marriage and success. That is where belief comes in, because if we did not believe in what we do in life or in a relationship it probably will not work out. Its all about rewriting the stars. Claiming your own. Very interesting essay on relationships.. in life, I believe it's a complete package where the person (both male and females) has their good points and weak points. What we think is are good points when we are young (such as being carefree or spontaneous rather than being so serious about being studious) is a weak point when we are older cos we would want our partner to take life or career more seriously to save for the future and family. Good luck

As a younger person, finding a person to date with the goals of marriage, living in one place, and having children is becoming increasingly more difficult. Neither men nor women want to make any lifestyle change to establish a healthy marriage which leaves people like me feeling lost. And that’s not even considering factors like religion, age difference, and specialization of labor (which spouse will work and which will be the homemaker). It’s all so hard.

The biggest mistake a person, man or woman, can make, is to say to themselves "I want to get married" and then make a list and then set about looking for someone to marry. People should marry someone that they stumble onto who they can't live without not someone they managed to successfully find that they think they can live with. The second mistake is that marriage needs to be about two people having an exclusive physical and emotional Intimacy and having the desire to merge their lives together in order to make the most of that relationship. That is ALL! If It is about and ANYTHING else that people insist on throwing into that mix is going to cause issues. If someone is going into this because they want kids, or economic stability, or some other shallow perceived advantage they are fools and deserve what they get. Kids in particular are a HORRIBLE reason to marry. Ask yourself if he \ she could not \ would not have kids would I marry them. Ask the same thing about any one of 100 other topics. If he won't buy a house, insists on living in a remote rural area, lives on a pig farm. Whatever, if you can think of something < reasonable > that would stop you from marrying someone strictly because it would mean giving something up that matters to you < like kids > you don't really love them... let it go and pass on marriage.

My opinion : In the eyes of many male onlookers, your orbital realm is high and out of reach. This automatically prevent people of a lower orbital realm from putting themselves in danger of being rejected, even though they may on your terms qualify beautifully. Also Asian men are totally different from American culturally, especially here in Singapore.

The irony is, modern women today has the basic requirements of what they look for in a man that has lot of true and real qualities. BUT they're not willing to compromise the cost of exchange in what they ask for. And shy away from marriage because they have a lifestyle to maintain. I thought women look for such qualities in men because it creates an environment that is conducive for marriage? Isn't that the objective? We can't have everything in life.

Sorry for your bad experiences with these guys. No one is perfect but what really matters is we are true to ourselves and we "always" communicate to our partner. Communication is number 1 for me. I see being in a relationship is like allowing someone into your life and letting yourself be in someone's life. Lets admit it that no matter what we do we are who we are and we are unique. When we settle our differences it is what keeps relationships last. Of course, there are limitations to everything. Promises are commitments. 1) communication 2) respect 3) love and appreciation. When we were young the list is backwards.

Before you get serious with a man, put him through this test. Most ladies have pendants and necklaces with chains that comes with them.
Often some of these chains are very thin and gets knotted up and very difficult to untangle, especially when you are just about to wear them and getting ready to go out.
Pick a suitable moment and ask "Can you please help untangle these chains for me". Do this on a few occasions, maybe each time make the knots even harder to disentangle. Test will show a man's patience, problem solving skills, dedication to your comfort, putting up with seemingly trivial tasks but very important to a lady and helpfulness. Fails when he says "I will buy you a new one".
    Try it. Sorry guys.

4:16 - I'm happily married and I have no interest of changing your mind in any way but it feels kinda sad that people have become so sentisitve as to hide their age or hide their ethnicity. Those are things that people are genuinely curious about because they are fascinated. I come from Poland. I went to Philippines 3 times in my life. Each time people asked me where I am from what is my ethnicity,, how old I am , and I found it adorable and great that people want to know more about me. It's 1000x better than somebody refering to me "oh, american arrived to us" without caring to know better where I actually come from.

Interesting video. Does show on a macro level why , for some women, more and more remain unmarried.
    - note the unmentioned:
    * wants, like a guy being taller, being well rounded, knowledgeable etc. ( hypergamy). The more independent and well travelled she is, the harder it is to find a man. For example, I've been to under 10 countries. Where could we go that won't be boring to her? And she'll likely know more about everything. So what? Hypergamy, remember?
    * She's not under 30/35 anymore, so while her standards are unchanged/higher, the number of men finding her desirable gets less and less.
Now, it IS possible to find a man who will let her just come and go and be more selfish. I've met 2 Asian women in such relationships. 1 married a man in a different asian country, about 15-20 years older. She spends about half the year with him, and half the year away. Another lady is married and even have 2 kids. She goes away about 5-7 times a year on trips lasting from 3 days to 2 weeks, and when she's in the home country, she still spends at least 3 - 4 nights a week doing things she likes away from family.
I've also read a blog of a white woman who , every year, will spend 4 to 6 weeks away from husband to go bicycle touring in a different country.
So while Koala's expectations, both conscious and unconscious, and her age, make it harder to find a guy who will fulfil her criteria, it is theoretically possible to find someone who doesn't mind her lifestyle.
