    Here in ‘24 with my new lab pup, just 4 months old today. We’ve only had one accident when I took too long to open the back door. He looks forward to going in his crate: “I’m so tired, please open the crate so I can eat and sleep.” Still working on the leash pressure in public, though. I’m here reviewing videos because I figure I must have made a mistake somewhere.

      @@StonnieDennis hi Stonnie, have a litter of 5 pups remaining at 10 weeks beginning to let in home with some crate work after being in garage and backyard for play and sleeping- for accidents in the home if and when occurs how do you handle and address this for any corrections that best help the dog learn and understand outside for potty?

    Little plastic prison, lol, right on. The Kong analogies are hysterical. Everything you say makes so much sense, thinking from the dog’s point of view. Brilliant, and with your humor, easy to remember.

      Yeah, I agree. I is a good idea (I think) to train them to like the crate like he does. You might need to transport the dog to the vet or something and at that point it is great if the dog is not afraid of the box.

I've only watched a video an a half and I already love your methods I have a almost 2 year old yorkie poo and she is an excited pup but she also has a fear of other dogs do to her meeting a dog that didn't know how to behave with puppies. how would you recommend getting her to overcome that fear? she has been going to the dog park and has gotten better but doesn't get closer than 10 feet to another dog. we are going to start getting on a training schedule to get her better with behaving. any tips cause she doesn't like her dog food enough to use it when training

    Stonnie, Thank you for the videos .... your method of training is so humane and positive. I brought home a 14 week old Tibetan Terrier (TT) couple of days ago. They are smart but do not like repetitious training .. sit, stay , rollover. I like your interactive training ... I think it will work well for him. I just want him to be a happy, wholesome calm dog who knows when to chill and when to play. I have a question, if you are feeding the puppy half his ration as treats throughout the day .. does he have to go number 2 more often ... right now he is not fully potty trained. I wish I could get trained by you!

    My dog loves her crate, she's rarely confined in it. I just leave it open. It's her own space. I feel dogs should love crates. You never know when you have to leave a dog in there.

    I rescued a 2 yr old pup. Nobody new he had severe separation anxiety and crate anxiety as he was never left alone. He is a family dog but I live alone. He has not demonstrated that he be alone as he has a laundry list of damages including breaking out of 9 window screens and jumping out of a 2nd floor window. The only current choice I have is to crate him- 4 hrs in the am. Out for 30 mins at lunchtime then in for another 4 hours. This is his Mon- Fri schedule unfortunately.
    What do you suggest I do? It’s very possible that I could come home to find he ingested the couch and needs surgery or even possible death from ingestion suffocation before I get home.
    Your help in advance is appreciated.

    I use a crate for times when I cannot supervise my dogs. I use them for nighttime, when I hear my pup rustling around I get up and take him out, then put him back in after he relieves himself, he goes back to sleep. I have two dogs one large hyper active hunting Lab and another 9 week old English Lab pup. I have to keep them separated for the pups safety.The older Lab is very active and he gets over excited with the pup, uses his paws and jumps on him when playing. So can't have them running loose together. I have my laundry room blocked off for the older Lab and he loves his room, he goes in and lays down when he wants quiet time. I have a play pen for the pup for times when I need to get my chores done and a wire crate in my bedroom for the puppy for sleeping at night. Crates are a must but should not be used as a prison as you say. They have a place in dog training, they are not for isolation for long periods just because you don't want to interact with your dog!

    Stonnie you make some of the worst and troublesome things .....
    like house breaking a dog, so easy
    and so common sense like, because it's really about training the human, it's not a problem or hassle for the dog if the human gets trained first. I rescued my dogs when they were already 4 to 5 yrs old and I was not having the time because of having to go to work and not having a consistent schedule....but the mostly picked it up. But the 2 I have now are not that easy especially 1. So it's really about having to train myself first.
    AND, THANK YOU FOR THE PEANUT TIP FOR 2 REASONS, 1.
    I'M DEATHLY ALLERGIC TO PEANUTS TO THE POINT JUST THE SMELL OF PEANUT BUTTER WILL MAKE ME SICK TO MY STOMACH, TOUCHING NUTS BUT ESPECIALLY PEANUT BUTTER WILL CAUSE ME TO BREAK OUT IN HIVES AND IN ANYWAY EATING THEM WILL CAUSE MY THROAT TO CLOSE UP....SO IF MY DOGS ATE SOME AND THEN KISSED ME,
    I WOULD GET FEVER BLISTERS AND HIVES AND JUST FEEL SICK,
    2. AND PEANUTS AND/OR PEANUT BUTTER ARE JUST PLAN NOT HEALTHY....THANKS FOR BRINGING THAT TO PEOPLE'S ATTENTION.. (I'LL PROBABLY JUST THROW IN SOME 10''S OR 20 'S INTO THE KONG.)
    As usual Stonnie, more great teaching, learning and common sense secrets. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS.

      if you don't know that look for another breed. they're a whole other ball game. train a Malinois everyday mentally physically and emotionally. Ive been a dog trainer for over 6 years and have worked with mals and have had them. Not for someone who believes crates are bad. However if you're ready and up for the challenge and know about the breed, then they will be an amazing working dog. They need some type of bite work either IPO or a schutzhund grade tug paired with advanced agility

    • @StonnieDennis
      @StonnieDennis  7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Lol...buy a farm, then set your crate outside and see how many hours per day your dog spends in his crate...that will give you your answer concerning whether or not your dog actually "loves" being confined in a plastic box...

    • @jensen139
      @jensen139 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Stonnie Dennis not here to argue. Crate training is a must for dogs. It gives them a safe place. I'm saving up to buy a farm. I bought my first house last year. I have a Chesapeake lab mix and a Malinois I'm titling in IPO. I'm getting a new Mal this fall! That's why I'm re watching and watching your new videos. :)

    • @StonnieDennis
      @StonnieDennis  7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Well, arguing is exactly what you are doing, by telling me how I should refer to dog training tools. I call crates little plastic prisons, to make sure that people don't get too comfortable with leaving their dogs locked up all day. At best, crates are necessary evils; at worst, they instruments of deprivation, that cause long term mental and physical problems. When is the last time you voluntarily locked yourself in a closet for eight hours straight? I'm pretty sure the answer to that is, never...

    • @StonnieDennis
      @StonnieDennis  7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I'm not anti crate training, obviously I am using a crate in this video. But, in a perfect world, crates would not be necessary...

    • @jensen139
      @jensen139 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Stonnie Dennis relating humans to dogs is kind of silly imo. You have a large audience. Imo calling them plastic prisons is no different than calling other pieces of useful training equipment by the wrong emotional raising terms. Majority of pet owners do not crate train their dogs at all. And set there dogs up for failure. Keep up the videos maybe just be aware of your terms :) or not
