    This Documentary is outstanding, it has better production value then a lot of the ones that are purchased by television or Netflix and they have production crews in their 100s, I really hope someone recognises your talent and makes you the next Barry Norman, with your team supporting your production. One of the best documentaries I’ve ever seen

      Oliver is the man, but iconic? Iconic means someone or something that has received often worldwide attention, and is regarded as having contributed heavily to public discourse. Maybe after a couple more decades, Oliver will earn the title of "iconic". He is still starting his career, nevertheless has a loyal following and has produced incredible work, though. People throw out these words to increase the impact of a statement, but its overuse has ultimately diluted the sentiment.

    Fantastic documentary Oliver. You REALLY upped your game on this one. It was really cool to see you personally giving us a tour through the sets used for Superman IV's production. The effort and lengths you went through in this vid absolutely floored me. This is the kind of thing I expect from a professional production. Bravo. I however saddened by the knowledge that this vid will inevitably get yanked by WB just like all your other Superman retrospectives. :/

    As laughable as the Superman/Nuclear Man plot is, the Clark/Daily Planet stuff is genuinely solid. That farm scene back in Smallville (in which Ma Kent has presumably passed) is moving and delicately handled. Clark's "romantic" scenes with Lacey are hilarious and cute. Also, the tabloidization of the Daily Planet by a Rupert Murdoch-style huckster is pretty prescient.

    • @Syklonus
      @Syklonus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has a lot of great scenes that work off the cast's chemistry. I find it perfectly watchable and entertaining, but it does lack polish. Superman III was two very good but very different movies in one, and they both weighed each other down. The evil Superman plot and Clark/Lana sub-plot should have been the whole film, and Pryor could have made a decent comedy just about computers.

      It's funny, I see people frequently mention you're the new Barry Norman in the comments, probably based on the intro to "Fix it in Post". Based on this work, I would think a better comparison would be Mark Kermode. This documentary was remeniscent of his "On the Edge of Blade Runner", which is also an excellent watch.

    Content like this is the reason I love TH-cam. This was highly professional and better than 95% of Blu Ray special features. The obvious depth of research, the interview, on-site footage, easy-to-follow monologues, and overall quality made this very enjoyable. No studio would authorize this much time and money creating a mini-documentary about a less-than-stellar sequel like Superman IV, but you obviously have a love for the making of this film and it showed. I look forward to seeing more of your content in the future.

    I have to say, I wish the deleted scenes were including in the movie as it would've been a better movie!! The news alert scene and Lacy with Lex scene especially. NOT the Metro Club scenes. I also think, on a side note, an interview with Jack O'Halloran would be interesting too. As such a fan of the 1 and 2, you would make it compelling!

    Hello, Owen. I’ve been a subscriber of your channel for a few years and I love your content. It’s been a source of entertainment and information about films and television shows that I’ve grew up with and even some that are unknown. I especially love the commentaries and spotlight on Superman related media like the documentary that I’m watching now. It seems to me that you have a special place in your heart for the Superman series as a whole which I kind of have myself.
    I think part four is not the best of the original series but a lot of work was put into trying to make a believable world. Superman is now character that is kind of overshadowed by Batman (another character that I’ve loved) as not being relevant and just simply not cool. But disagree with that thinking. Just to cut this short, thank you and your crew for putting the time and effort into making this doc about one the less popular Superman films. To you and your continued success.👏🏿👍🏿✌🏿❤️

    Really loved this man, absolutely a passion project. I did a similar documentary on the New York locations of the Ghostbusters movies at the start of the year, would love it if you had a watch!

      Interesting all they use the George Lucas soundstage is strictly coming dancing and now the live shows of Britain’s got talent seems a bit of a waste it’s not used for film production

    Just when you think you're one of the biggest superman fans out there, Oliver Harper does a brilliant retrospective doc and look-in on how the films were made and provides interesting insights to the film series overall production and history! Nice one Ollie and Merry Christmas if it means anything to you!

      BTW, I spoke with Mike Matessino about the test screening print of “Superman IV” and he seems to believe that it might still exist. That would be quite an historic discovery for fans of Superman, if it’s true.

    It’s surprisingly cool to see the real world locations vs the movie clips. This movie was one of twenty VHS tapes I had as a kid so although I didn’t love it, I’m familiar enough to recognize the backgrounds

    This is fantastic, Oliver! It's very clear how much care and effort you put into this project as I know this has been a passion project for you over the last number of years. Very thorough, informative, well shot & assembled. Hopefully, when they do the next anniversary release of the Superman Anthology (hoping we get a 4K UHD set release), WB will contact you and put this within the special features!!

    For the love of Jor-El, this is GREAT work guys!! THE QUEST FOR PEACE is always a curio to this 80s sky kid. It could have been so much better and very nearly takes a different turn, but the money visibly falls away as the story, momentum and production crashes to earth in a fierce and fast back-projection plummet.

    Oliver, you do a bloody great job when it comes to delving into past films. Location finding is always amazing. I did the same thing in Australia a few years back on the location of the original Mad Max and just the genius of how all george miller did was use about 10 km of rural land to film his classic. He literally shot in one spot for one scene, then pointed the camera 180 degrees the other way and filmed another scene that popped up like an hour later in the film. It inspired me in how intelligence can save on money on a film, and 30 years on. The locations he used were almost exactly as they were in the film. For others they may think "so what?" But for us film nerds, it's like walking in the footsteps of giants when we see film locations we grew up with only on the big scree.
