Back Pocket Game Reviews exclusives are what sell consoles, people don't like it but there's a simple solution, buy both systems. I have bought each PlayStation and Nintendo generation since gamecube, and have earlier Nintendo generations, never got into xbox. My main gaming is PlayStation, i play Nintendo for the exclusives. Zelda and Mario

William Hunter no man your missing the point. Most people think these games are on other consoles. Parents will come in and ask for Mario on the Xbox. Or Halo on the PlayStation. It's extremely common to get those requests from customers.

I use to work in gamestop back in 2006 and back then, all you needed was ID to prove that you were at least 18 years old. This reminded me of a crazy story that happened when I was working there. This guy was pacing in front of the story. After like 10 minutes of doing that, he walks in and he looks nervous and sweating hard. I talk to him to see what's wrong. After 15 - 20 minutes of talking, he tells me I'm a good kid and he leaves. A few days later, I find out that a gamestop few miles away got robbed at gun point and it was the guy that came into my store.

Loved your stories! I was an EB Asst manager for 2 years and was threatened with a demotion after an employee (who I recommended not keeping after Christmas) left our mall store unattended and allowed tons of items to be stolen. This was also after I had gotten 2 managers, who were supposed to be training me, fired for theft. Thankfully I showed up to the meeting for my demotion with my 2 week notice since I changed careers to the company where I now have worked for 14 years.

Back in the early to mid 2000s in the midst of PS2, GC, Xbox era we would still sell used N64 games that would still be $20-30 used. People would be annoyed by this, but they sold. It mostly went to people who took them down to Mexico because it was cheaper that way. Sometimes there's also that rare old game that would be $50 used and people didn't seem to understand that.

It's retail. Getting paid to be kicked in the balls and spat on is preferable to dealing with idiot customers and dumb and/or vengeful managers. Whether it's idiot customers with insane demands or shoplifters, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Toss in insane quotas and managers that were only promoted to keep them from doing too much damage and you'll understand why just about any other job would be better than retail.

I went to two local GameStop stores recently for two used games, and each copy was $10 each but they had were scratched up or just a hot mess. I had to insist that I see the discs, which resulted in the eye rolling. I said no thanks, later went on Amazon and paid $20 for each game....brand new and still in the shrink wrap. Definitely worth paying more for quality. Buying used games from GameStop is an at-your-own-risk deal. If you go that route, inspect the discs before you buy them.

I worked at Home Depot. once got in a argument with a customer over a pallet of paver stones. He had a tiny mower-sized trailer behind his van. He asked for us to load the entire pallet on the trailer with the fork lift. I explained it was too much weight for the trailer. I was informed that he was "an ACCOUNTANT so he knew how much weight it would hold". Long story short, his van almost blew the rear tires, his trailer frame actually was cutting into our parking lot because how low it was, and he spent a hour hand moving all the pavers off the trailer.

In retail, I hate all levels of managements especially the ones who were suppose to have your back in situation like yours but betray you in the end. Working in retail back in the days, I come to know three managers who I once relied on as trustworthy since whenever something horrible happens in the store they would got my back and stood up for me regarding customer complaints, on the job bullying, and harassment but as time went on the longer I work there and gain more experience the more they became jelly and started turning their backs on me even going as far as trying to set me up for failure. Forcing me to work late even after my shift was over, changing my work schedule without giving me any notification, refusing to give me a break hours after I started work, eavesdropping on my conversations with my fellow co-workers, and threatening to report me to the big boss if I don't comply with their dictation.

In 2012 the wife and I moved from TX to NC and just took a part time job at a Toys R US. I applied for stock room but after my interview they realized I was easily capable of a register position. Now I worked retail in college but worked mainly the floor and not register so had a pretty good idea of how the retail scheduled worked. My very first shift training was just watching some semi manager in training blaze through every process on the register and my second shift was THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING, BLACK FRIDAY! They put me all of a few hours practice on the cash register on the busiest shopping day ever. My shift was like 2pm till close and when the we closed for the night I was getting ready to leave and they said I couldn't leave till the entire store was put back in order which was going to take 2 and a half or more hours. Now I said no one told me I was also clean up crew or explained that in any detail. I made plans with family to be out of here after doors close. You gave me the worse training possible and nothing was explained to me at all. Then they pulled me into an office and gave me an ultimatum that if I didn't stay till everything was cleaned I would be fired so I just quit and left. So basically my drawer was the reason Toys R US closed for good.

I was also a GameStop asm for about 10 months back in 2009. One Sunday my game advisor called off and I was all alone the whole day in the store. Sunday's are usually busy days I remember I took a lot of trade-ins that day and the workload was heavy with TOH's and other tasks. The store manager didn't want me to stay more than 30 minutes later than my shift so I had to quickly sped things up to finish my work. Two days later when I go back to work the store manager calls me to the back and there is the loss prevention guy waiting for me asking me questions as if I did something wrong. It turns out that I accidentally threw out the deposit bag with almost $800 into the wastebasket that was right next to the open safe. The next morning the girl game advisor threw out the garbage not knowing the money was there. I apologize for that mistake but I told him I was alone and I was trying to finish the work on time. I agreed to pay the money back within 60 days little by little so he had me sign a form for proof that I was going to pay that back. The next thing you know I think he asks me to turn in my store keys and he sends me home. He tells me they will call me because I have to talk to corporate about this. Two days later I get a call over the phone from the district manager informing me that I was being terminated. I told her that it was an accident and I agreed to pay the money back but she said the corporate didn't want me back to despite him making me sign that form to pay it back. The good news is that I got GameStop back in the end because I got them for unemployment for a whole year. Never work for game stop they are full of BS.

I only go to Gamestop where they have buy 2, get 1 free offer, cheap used games, and or really buzzard hidden gems. I never trade anything in because during the 90s, I want to get the next gen (PS1) after SNES. I have about 30 SNES games including Super Mario RPG, Chrono Trigger, Bof2, Mega Man x, x2, contra 3, turtle 4, yoshi's island, castlevania 4, earthbound, and etc... They offer me $20 for the games and system. Basically, the games (they told me), trade in for 50 cents and maybe a few dollars. I just basically left the store with my things and never trade in games again because it's a ripoff.

My worst was when I worked at McD's, during the beanie baby craze. The people were chanting the name of the next bear. Customers lined up before we opened. I had a hard time getting inside the building. These ladies bought ten bears which was the max per customer, which we could not hold any it was first come first served. They were expecting to get a certain one, when they heard the big cheers for the next bear, she asked to get those too. I told her that it meant we sold out of the ones she thought she was going to get. She was enraged.
The following day, a woman told me her husband was shaking his head in disbelief as they were buying food and throwing them away just to get the bears when they could have given their meals to a homeless man that was just outside.
It was insane. They were like mad lol I thought it was just in the movies.

I used to work at gamestop as well, I had a similar experience with my DM. I was the "3rd key". The manager would have me open by myself, and my help would come in around 11ish. The gamestop I worked at opened at 9am and the DM wanted the deposit in the account by 10am. So I just took the deposit at 11ish when my help came in. I would get in trouble for leaving the store with just an associate there, not depositing the drop or closing the store for 20mins while I take the drop to the bank. There was a no win situation which lend me to lose the 3rd key title, and getting like 5 hours a week. I am sure not all were like mine, but the upper management there was the worst.

I worked in a game store some years ago. I had parents return games that were inappropriate, but the only irate one were the ones that I told the game was not appropriate for their child, they bought the game anyways and then came back to return it because they didn't listen to me. You would think they would come back and say "Hey you're right. I'm sorry I didn't listen to you. Thank you for letting me know", but usually it was more like, "This game is inappropriate and I want my money back!"
There was one older women who was returning a Teen rated James Bond game because she thought it was too violent for the 13 year old boy it was gifted to. The teen boy wasn't there, but I felt bad for him that he might be overprotected.

I can't say I've ever had a problem at Gamestop. The one I go to is great. They have very knowledgeable employees that have worked there for years and they never try to push anything on me. Sometimes I'm disappointed in the trade values but I don't go there with any expectations and I know it's a profit driven company.

1st, the description to this video is spot-on correct! I watched a few of your videos before I stumbled onto the one that you mentioned your Gamestop career. I was a manager at my prior job, but now I currently work at Gamestop. It's the worse underpaid retail job ever. I'm a keyholder/SGA, and I'm usually by myself. My co-workers usually leave a mess. The list goes on and on... My ex-SL knew that I went from being excited to I-don't-care-if-I-get-fired in less than 4 months. The people ("customers") are horrible. Thanks to this I'm starting to change my collection to digital, just so I don't have to deal with people...
Little kids making a mess after you try to alphabetize the games.
Old people asking for Mario games for the PS4 cause that's what their grandson wants.
I had a lady demanding for me to change her PS4 remote because it didn't work and she bought the system with PRP, I told her the controller had ketchup all over it, and she said "it's just a little bit and I paid for warranty".
People coming in 2 days after Black Friday or the day before Christmas (more like The Nightmare Before Christmas) asking why are our Xbox One S and PS4's sold out...
"Do you sell those cassettes for the DS that you can put a lot of games in?"
"You mean the R4? That's illegal."
2 days ago, A lady that bought a 3DS game for her son for Xmas came back, one of my co-workers sold her a pre-owned copy instead of a new one, and she said that when she was gonna wrap the xmas present and she saw that it was pre-owned she was "about to barf and pass out". ARE YOU F#@!n& SERIOUS!!!
The most recent one... a crackhead (or methhead IDK) came into the store with 4 boxes of CRAP, old Xbox games, cameras, broken 360's, ect.) and he just left them there after we told him we couldn't take them. I told my SL that I was gonna put it in the dumpster, he said to me "you can't throw it away, the "customer" called saying he was gonna pick up the stuff, if we throw it away he can charge us with theft and the boxes have to stay here at least 30 days". I'm like WTF. They guy came back 3 days later and got yelled at by my ASL.
The dreaded Circle of Life... I'm at the point that when I pull up a customer and the system says the had pre-orders not picked up, I will automatically tell them and cancel them.
And when people complain about the trade-in value, I tell the that GS is just a glorified pawn shop trying to convert itself into a videogame store/pawn shop/Hot Topic/Blockbuster hybrid.
Only good part of ANY DAY is when little kids come to buy GTA5 and we ask for an adult, we tell them what the game is about, and they get smacked in front of everyone or leave the store crying!
    I need a new job...
Keep up the good content tho!

I managed an independent game store for almost 8 years. The story about the mom with the trade-in was very familiar to me. People just don't understand trade values. It got to the point where I started telling people that games and systems were like new cars. The minute you walk out the door with them they lose half of their value.

I witnessed a similar story at a Gamestop few years ago. A mother went on and on about trade values. She even started cussing out this guy who can't be no more than 21. Now I'm disabled and wheelchair bound so you think she have no problem with him checking me out since I've been waiting for awhile but this only made her more angry. She even started screaming at me like i did something, all i did was buy a game for pete sake. He ended up calling the police and she left before they arrived without any trades done.

I had one situation where someone stole 20+ consoles from the back room while I was working during the holidays. I was baffled because how do you miss someone stealing that many consoles? The managers blamed the temp staffer that was also working that day. I never saw him do it, but what else could I believe. All of the temp staff was fired. I survived and even ended up getting an "opportunity" to get promoted by working at another store. A month or two after I had been working at the new store everyone from my old store was fired for theft. Turns out the Assistant Manager was the one who was stealing, but everyone in the store got fired anyways. To this day I feel bad for the temp worker who I didn't believe and the other keyholder who was completely innocent.

I will never forget. I worked at a big box Electronics retailer. And there was a store in a rural area nearby that burnt down so a lot of very rural people would come to our store while the other one was being fixed. This guy who was wearing plaid green and yellow shirt with bibs came in and he had a huge Grizzly Adams beard and Santa Claus glasses he spent well over 45 minutes looking at laptops and ended up deciding on a floor model that cost him less than $200 and shortly after he walked away with the computer I go about my business and he come storming back into the store yelling I didn't realize open box no box and then return the laptop and left because we didn't have a cardboard box for him to put the floor model in

I'm going to be very specific I want Sonic for the Super Nintendo and Megaman for the Atari 2600, here Madden 2010-2015 should cover it. I used to run a small game store of my own in a local flea market here in Kentucky back in 2009 and you'd get people coming in trying to scam and confuse you all the time about pricing. I had one person try to sell me a Super Scope gun for $500, claiming that there were less than 100 ever made lol. I had some good stuff in that store Ogre Battle, Lufia, Earthbound, 2 Neo Geos, an Atari Jaguar and even a Neo Geo CD and that's just scratching the surface. Now the only evidence that I'm a gamer is my subscription to World of Warcraft, an ex girlfriend left me with around $5000 dollars worth of bills and rent to pay and I had to sell all of my collection every last game and system I had. I have reaquired a super nintendo and a slim NES since then along with a few games but nothing compared to what I had back in the late 2000s.

Believe it or not I had a rational sane customer during the holiday season!
My GameStop story; I was hired as temporary employee during the 2015 holiday season, so I remember having to help the cashier with a trade-in. This kid must've gotten it in his head that he would get a lot of value for his games and would be able to buy a PS4. Inside the box was mostly PS3 and 360 games, nearly all of them were sports games, and first person shooter games. so he and his mom take while putting these old games on the counter along with the 360...that didn't even work as it had the red ring of death.
So after taking awhile sorting the old games and coming up with a value, it was pretty low and the kid and mom were pissed off. He was crying and the mom was mad at her kid, she scolded him in an "I told you so tone" apologized for her kids behavior and she accepted the trade in value which was about $60.00 and they left.

Considering how I haven't been in retail for too long, the only real story I can talk about is at my store on our busy sale day. People told me ahead of time that it was gonna be busy and crazy and blah blah blah and I'm like "Yeah, whatever". Well, it turns out my store was and like all sales, we had people being crazy and running people over and getting into fights and what not. In the area they put me in, I simply had to put shoe displays back on the tables and watch lines for a bit. I am a dock worker, I rarely have customer interactions unless it is someone asking where a area is or the restroom. So I am watching this line which is divided into two. They didn't give me much instructions. They basically told me that when one person leaves, you let another in. I'm like, ok, sounds simply. As I am watching the line, people are like "Hey this person is in here, can I met them or hey, can we go in altogether" and I have to try and be nice and kindly say no. Then I have people in my line complaining because one line is moving faster then the line I am waiting to and there is nothing I can do about it. I am trying to be nice and make sure the area doesn't get too crowded while making sure people aren't sneaking into the area. It is honestly the worst part of retail I have dealt with. Most of the time I am cleaning or attending to our back area to do work. So when I have to attend to customers for pretty much the first time, I honestly don't know how to act.
In your case, my god people are just demanding and what not. The problem I notice with gamestop is communication, security and misinformation. Regardless of what you do or who comes in, there is always this problem. I think this is partly why we are seeing a decline in gamestop's sales and some stores closing. People don't want to deal with them. Gamers are getting smarter and going else where. I can get a used game cheaper from a guy on letgo then I can in store with gamestop and I ask fairly in most cases. So I mean, gamers are selling to each other now a days and buying new from other places or going digital, which eventually will happen to gamestop where sales will be online only for physical, digital and used.

I just started working at best buy in the pc section. A few stories so far include lots of people getting mad at me when i show them exactly where our hard drives are located, then when i show them the different brands and styles they get mad and ask me where the rest of it is. They thought the hard drive was what they entire computer was called, not just the storage device, so i calmly explain what the part is then show them the different computers we have. All silly.
Another guy, who would not take the toothpick out of his mouth to talk to me, got mad and accused me of falsely representing what the computers we have are capapble of because Best Buy's internet security won't let them log onto Craigslist.
Lastly, older couple at least in their early 60s comes in looking at all-in-one computers. I show them what we have, explain the differences, and how they'll each suit their needs. The husband gets mad when I move to the Lenovo computer we have on display, stating that the Chinese put listening spy devices into Lenovo computers to get intel on the American people.
Bonus: this customer was so patient and nice to me, but I have to mention this cus it was a blunder on both our faults. He's filling out a My Best Buy Credit Card application, I ask his name, when I double check he confirms his last name starts with a "P". Finish the application, then go to purchase his new computer, ask for his ID as per protocol with first time purchases with card, notice his last name starts with "B". So, since his application was already in the system we had to call whatever bank or credit union associated with our store and manually change his last name over the phone. We both laughed

I remember when I worked at Gamecrazy, I remember a kid wanted to return his copy of Jaws on I think PS2, because it was too violent for him.......... My coworker kept whispering, "you got to be F'ing kidding me".
As far as a situation like this with the lady wanting retail price for trade, I was lucky enough to usually avoid this but it did happen. I would usually say, "M'am, we are a business and this is how we turn a profit to pay our bills and for this company to pay our paychecks. None of us work here for free." Then I would do the whole comparison to the Hollywood Video next door thing, "instead of renting, you can buy it, keep it as long as you want, and trade back when you want for this price, compared to the rental price". Worked every time.
As far as the whole burglary thing, If I got fired for something like that, I'd be getting an attorney involved. But as a 20 year old, it's hard to look at a situation like that. Best thing to do in that situation is when they try to do a write up, never sign anything when you are not at fault. Otherwise by signing something, you are not only admitting fault, but also giving them documented proof of admitting fault, which helps them justify their decision.
But all that being said, all my Gamecrazy experiences were cakewalk compared to my family's convenient store stories. I could write a reality show or web series based on that. I think the first Clerks movie is a highly over rated movie based on my actual experiences of working 20+ years at a convenient store.

If you're not as informed go in with a HUMBLE attitude, "oh thanks for the info I didnt know Mario was exclusive to Nintendo systems" BUT instead these PEOPLE always think youre LYING and even when they know theyre not knowledgeable about these things they still THINK theyre right. Screw Gamestop and Ebay. It's extra work to pack games for the mail but it's worth it. If the post office isn't near. Get a scale for $20, print your own label, and put the games in the mailbox.

I was an overnight Maintenance associate at a local Walmart. the guy that cleans stuff up and helps customers if they ask as a side duty.
so it was pretty slow around 3am so I went out to get carts. took 5 minutes because I did it earlier in the morning.
So I walk back in and this lady walks up to me and starts yelling that she was waiting there for 45 minutes that she got tired of waiting and jumped the counter to get herself some ciggrettes and decided self checkout was the way to go. it stops her because of the age restriction where someone had to check her ID. So goes to each one to try and get around it and tie up all the self checkouts which were the main way customers paid at night unless they wanted ciggrettes or an adult drink. So this lady ends up yelling for 15 minutes before my supervisor comes over after I go get her to help.
I was around the cash registers for a while before I went out and never saw her at all before I came back inside.
I didn't get to see what happened after but that lady was scary. I laugh about it now but at the time I was terrified.

First job was at a movie theater ticket counter when i was sixteen. One day a guy comes in and buys a ticket and asks for a receipt. I tell the guy, your ticket is the receipt. He asks again and says it slower like as I don't understand English and again I tell him "Sir, your ticket is your receipt, it tells you what you bought, when you bought it, how much you bought it for and the transaction." He starts to tell me that by law, he is entitled to a receipt and again I explain to him that his ticket is the receipt. So he asks to speak to my manager. The manager comes out, and the guy tells him I should be fired for failing to print a receipt for him, and the manager, WORD FOR WORD, tells him his ticket is the receipt, pointing out the exact same things i mentioned earlier. All of a sudden he was like "oh I didn't see that, thank you" and walks off.. I was like WTF!!?! I tell the concession peeps, that if he buys food, give him the "special". My manager reviews the security footage later with me for fun and he's like 'yeah there are just people who don't believe teenagers and are just dicks about it.'

This lady would come in at least 3 times a week with 2 shopping carts and grab all the milk out of the cooler like she was going to buy it and track me down and tell me she changed her mind so I'd have to rotate put that milk back on the shelf... Even when I went to standard grocery she did the same thing to me with 2 liters of soda she would grab them all and change her mind and leave me with the carts this was a weekly thing she did for the 3 years I was at that store haha

Why ? If gs dies it's gonna be worst off for us as Amazon will basically have a monopoly on used games

It's going to be sad when they die tbh. Where will you be going? Most people don't have other stores besides Walmart or Amazon or something & those employees don't know anything about gaming, or even care. They've made a lot of mistakes and pissed me off more than a few times but it's still better than the alternatives.

Matthew Namehere GameStop is the only store with a decent selection where I live. Best Buy has the same selection as Walmart or Target here so I end up going to GameStop as I am not waiting a week or two to play a brand new game because I refuse to pay $10-20 for overnight shipping.

What kind of idiots leave ONE EMPLOYEE in charge of a store? They shouldn't even be remotely surprised that they got robbed.

RGT, yeah, if you were in on the theft, I would expect him to have traded them into a different store or at least waited till someone else was on shift. My worst experience as a customer at a GameStop was in Charlotte NC, both employees were hiding.

Uh, retail is the absolute worst. If you stay in it too long it makes you hate people because you learn how awful so many people are. The amount of abuse that takes place is unimaginable to people that don't have much experience with it. Talk about needing social change....

I work in electronics at Walmart and that lady reminds me of a customer I had who swore that a game called "Pokemon Go Beta" was releasing on Xbox One and PS4... He couldn't get it through his head that Pokemon is partially owned by Nintendo, that he was talking about a mobile exclusive game, and that beta was not part of the official title.....

I hate when im running the cash register, and im the only employee running a register, and I have a line of at least 3 separate groups of people, and a person walks in the store and just walks up to the side of the register and asks, "can you show me where such and such is?" And theyll ask where something is, and expect me to drop everything with the line of customers im already helping, to take care of them. They think theyre special, so I should have to quit helping anyone else to help them. Happens all the time. Lol

I work for gamestop in Sweden and can tell you I have had a few run ins with weird folk. One customer bought eight ps3's and he came around the counter and took the consoles out of the boxes before completed purchase and made a huge mess and on top of that I was by myself in the store. I accidentally missed scanning one of the consoles because there were so many at once so he got one for free plus there were a lot of people waiting in line plus the scanner stopped working at one point so I had to type everything in manually including console serial numbers and sku codes. The process took more than two hours.

That sucks. They wouldn't allow us to sell more than 2 systems to a customer at a time. They don't make money on the systems, so they are trying to prevent people from buying them to resell.
