    I think Brave Ike should've been on the list 100%. He is the unit who started the damage reduction meta which lasted all the way till Duo Lif arrived. Also think Duo Lif deserved a spot tbh

      That’s a fair take! I covered B!Ike in another comment response but basically he just didn’t cut it because he was the type of unit that was really strong enemy phase while not really being menacing on player phase, so the AI couldn’t work with him as well as the player could. Barring elimine, all the other units on the list were or could contribute, both in the hands of the player and on the AI hand to a more impactful degree IMO.

    25:55 y'all forgot to mention the most terrifying thing about F!Edelgard - her terrorizing is in A Hero Rises for years on end. Like yea she's still usable but PLEASE let this be the year she's not wasting a spot😭😭😭

      This is sooooooo true. Ahahahhahahha always the fear of her actually winning and taking away a better unit.

    I remember back in about a year ago when I started the game and B!Catria was on the banner that the new players get and I pulled for her for just for the sake of: "well.. It'd be good to have an axe unit on my account" -and BOY did I not know how great of decision that'd be in the long run...

      I remember that I always wanted her because I liked the art a lot and I'm a sucker for brave attacks. I failed miserably. Months later I got her free lmao

    I think the one here who gave me the most trouble was Legendary Sigurd. Safety Fence and Even Pulse Tie were my best friends.
    I think these are all good choices, but I definitely consider OG Hector and Fallen Edelgard top 10 meta-warpers.
    I played at launch and Takumi was the big name initially, but he fell out pretty quickly when SI was introduced. Vantage Takumi was surprisingly short-lived, because everyone gaining access to SI made counter-killing him on enemy phase a lot easier, so you didn't even have to worry about Vantage. Vantage Hector, though, could literally wall out entire teams, and lasted a lot longer than Takumi. Brave Lyn brought Sacae's Blessing practically just to counter Hector, because even Reinhardt could have trouble killing Hector.
    And then years later, Fallen Edelgard really was the next unit who could wall entire teams. She was a more unkillable wall than Surtr had been despite being introduced in a much more developed meta. Surtr was a lot easier to build around since he didn't have DC or self-healing, and also didn't have the massive player phase presence F Edel did. People were suggesting *Boey* of all units as a F2P counter for F Edel. The fact that she actually brought back the corner unit strat in AR is kind of crazy. The year that followed introduced a bunch of units who seemed designed to counter her, which really speaks to her power.
    In contrast, I'm not sure I would say Brave Hector was meta-warping. He was *meta,* absolutely, but I never felt like he *warped* the meta the way other units did. He was a strong unit but one with clear, not so uncommon counters.

      Not gonna lie, I actually used boey a lot to counter FEdelgard ahahahha! B!Hector was very OP but I do think a lot of skills enabled him more.
      OG Hector was pretty good too. Man Hector just carries a lot of weight ahahh!!
      Edit: for some reason my text didn’t go through completely

      Honestly, Takumi and Hector were *both* pretty stupid at launch, mainly because they had relatively optimized kits at a time when most characters didn't and there was no way to give units better loadouts. The difference was that Takumi was only really as "strong" as he was *because* of everyone else's weakness, and SI exposed this. Hector, on the other hand, was an actual good unit in his own right, and all SI really did was make him even more stupid. And, if I'm going to be honest, the reason Taco was talked about more was because he was one of the starting 8 focus heroes (meaning he could be picked up relatively easily), while Hector was much rarer due to only being able to be picked up off focus at that time.
      This is also reflected in how quickly they got crept. We weren't even six months into the game's lifespan before Taco started getting crept by better infantry archers, and that's not even getting started on Brave Lyn (though, to be fair, Taco was on his way out the door by the time Bridelia was released). Hector, on the other hand, reigned as top armor for a whole ass year before he was finally crept (by another version of himself, no less), and even then, OG Hector was still really strong by 2018 standards, especially after he gained access to Berserk Armads later on in the year.
      Have a nice day.

    One other event that I think sometimes goes under the radar in the Saves/Sigurd/Catria timeline was the double save hero fest with a ton of free tickets. This is when I really started to see saves everywhere, there's good reason to think people had Henriettes before that point since D!Lif was absolutely everywhere but either due to not having near save or having decision paralysis over who to fodder far save to, saves didn't show up nearly as often as they should have. I ran a rescue trap defense that was extremely weak to far saves with near save being irrelevant and I still only saw a save unit maybe once every couple seasons. That Hero Fest was the turning point as I remember it, saves were everywhere after it, and that's when Catria really took off.
    It's always funny to see people be surprised that Catria wasn't rated as highly on her release. The turn 1 threat range/trap meta was just that oppressive.

    Did you forget that when Brave Ike got his refine he became the meta, to the point that hardy bearing, a seal that so no play, instantly became mandatory otherwise B. Ike would just solo your entire team in his sleep.
    Elemine was perfectly balanced, since she could only false start enemies who were directly in front of her meaning that while she could stop some setups, she could not stop every setup.

      I'd also like to mention that, unlike with a lot of other DR tanks at the time (i.e: godswords like Mareeta/Larcei), you couldn't do anything with Bike's DR by winning stat checks against him.
      Another strategy I saw employed during peak Bike (and I know, I +10'd mine during this period, not regretting it either) was that people would start running Ophelia and other precharged AoE spammers. Because Bike's DR only worked during combat, AoE Specials would completely shred his HP.
      It's actually a testament to how good that refine was for that time that I still use my Bike in AR-O to this very day, albeit with an upgraded build. Even in today's meta, there are nukes that Bike has a favorable matchup against *because* he forces Desperation on them. (e.g: Duo Shamir can beat most omnitanks by eating a counterattack thanks to her own DR, then following up with a Deadeye proc that cannot be intercepted by Guard effects. But because Bike forces her to follow-up before he counters, in most cases, she cannot trigger Deadeye on him.) And because 80% consecutive hit DR is still a relatively rare, but quite strong effect, he matches favorably vs Desperation users who don't have DR piercing (e.g: Maid Lysithea, Maid Ayra).
      Have a nice day.

      I’ll try to answer you both on the same thread. I think B!Ike was fantastic and so was B!Dimitri. Many of the ar-d building came down to: can it beat this unit? Which saw a fantastic rise of Ophelia and aoe specials in general (and hardy bearing). The only reason he didn’t really make the cut was that, most of these units (barring maybe elimine) have some very useful applications in AI hand and in the player hands. They’re threatening from a players perspective and from the enemy’s perspective. B!Ike and B!Dimitri just don’t really have that power unless it’s super specialized builds (like gambit shenanigans) that just now came about and was not really seen before (player phase builds for them). They weren’t as much a threat on emeyphase or on what they enabled, but more or less fit a omnitank playstyle that was very much in that meta around that time.
      I hope that clarifies it, but I love B!Ike too. Still use him till today, although he’s definitely not aging as well.
      Edit: clarified the player phase portion for B!Ike and B!Dimitri

      While she has fallen off, her initial introduction basically invalidating most of the roster and IS basically making counters to specifically her for a while afterwards can't be understated.

    Man legendary Sigurd for me was a before and after. I would build teams just to counter him and Nótt together, he made galeforce a total necessity.

    • @darkandroid125
      @darkandroid125 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From my own experiences dealing with him, I felt that Sigurd pretty much enforced the use of save armors in AR-O.
      While infantry omnitanks were largely being phased out in favor for save armors pre-Sigurd, there were still scenarios where I could run B!Dimitri or Bike + Blucina. But after Sigurd got released, I was pretty much forced to run Bector all the time, because I would get overrun by +1 move ranged pony riders otherwise, especially if they had [Pathfinder] support on top.

    I love how y’all said IS would never nerf B!Catria, and then they immediately killed her and buried her with Heather and Ruse 4. If you weren’t a jinx, you’d be a prophet.

    • @fireembros1165

      To be frank, having a counter skill Locked behind a specific seasonal is not gonna remove her viability on most modes. And the fact that odd/even recovery or Kia staff remove it (my team has a Sarah to cleanse it), means she’ll still be around in the meta for a while.

    • @danielpatterson1576
      @danielpatterson1576 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@fireembros1165 that’s assuming a lot that they won’t start throwing Ruse 4 on every other banner going forward. Plus, it’s not likely that most would be willing to sacrifice as spot on their Catria-ball team for a staff unit just for that matchup, especially since it means that unless they have Sara (I think she’s the one with Kia Staff, and she hasn’t been on focus in forever), the Catria-ball has to rely on the offense not abusing the turn restrictions of Recovery to bully them (unless you’re running 2 staff units with both Recovery skills specifically for this, though you’re just opening yourself up to other strats that way. Plus, can’t Recovery still be countered by False Start? And while I haven’t tested it myself, the description for Schism says that if it’s the emo Ed from the target, it will also remove Triangle Strategy with it, and if that’s the case, Kia and Recovery are pointless anyway since you still lose Triangle Strategy no matter what.

    • @fireembros1165
      @fireembros1165  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@danielpatterson1576 it does indeed work with Kia staff because of the order in which the debuffs apply and are removed. So Kia staff removes schism and maintains triangle attack without any penalties.
      And yes you are right, but Sara is going to find more use on dark teams we’re Catria can still run rampant as opposed to on astra where you want more range and offensive pressure.
      I also doubt they’ll throw ruse on everyone. Look at stall. It hardly dented the meta. Grand ploy exists, but brave robin is still everyone. A solution is good obviously, but it won’t make her disappear.

    as someone who actually had a +10 Bector at the peak of his performance, that unit was just too much at the time, right now he really has issues but wow he was the definitive threat everybody had to watch out for, I still think he can be an incredibly potent near savior, but wow was that unit potent after his refine
