The Most IMPACTFUL Units Released in 2023! A Look Back at This Year's Meta! [Fire Emblem Heroes]

- With 2024 coming up, I thought I'd take a look at all the units who released in 2023 and give out some awards for the best units of each category!

I would actually put a "Best refine of 2023" section up there too, with 3 categories "Zero-to-Hero" (completely saving them / "Grail" / "Overall" (for everyone else).
As for my list, for top 2 in most categories (cuz Attuned & Ascended -the forgotten stepchild) don't have enough) -based on unit performance and meta influence (ignoring the hell out of Christmas while also taking into account HOW I use them against the common meta threats)
Legendary: 1st Hinoka, 2nd Robin (Hinoka saving Fliers, Robin creating stat-balls)
Mythic: 1st Freyr, 2nd Veyle (Its Freyr, Veyle letting tanks have the chance against Nukes/Claude)
Duo: 1st: Sanaki, 2nd Ymir (It's Sanaki, Ymir & Maria were part of the problem that forced the game to eventually go into more "Feud" & "Anti-Miracle" skills)
Harmonic: 1st Ayra, 2nd Anna (Ayra melts things, Anna can hold her own against multiple enemies
Re:Armed: 1st Lucina, 2nd Grima (Double Action Cav, weird pick but she did bring back the concept of "Fast-Armors" and is still a common +10 unit to see with AR-D (though not as much since her release)
Seasonal: 1st W! Claude, 2nd T! Lysithia (Until Veyle came out, this mofo was the most annoying person ever. He also forced Armors to run SS4. Lysthia the same, but instead of specials, hers was raw damage you couldn't counter)
Regular 5: 1st F! Maria, 2nd Lucia (Same problem with Ymir, Lucia got better with Gambit, but while not as everywhere as she once was, she basically was the defacto "annoying godsword" for a while)
(Next categories implies they're +10 with the best skills)
GHB: 1st Arion, 2nd F.Linus (HInoka at home, Linus has the potential to create just enough of stat-swings against modern godswords -I really didn't care about +10 Fallen Byleths whenever I used him against her)
TT: 1st M!: Shez, 2nd NY! Yarne (Having a prf and access to Flier Skills, The hot take but Yarne's weapon was good enough that you didn't need to give him an arcane. I just threw red feud on him, ATK/SPD Push 4, Fury 3 SS and put him on my AR-D team....in VoH people straight up underestimate him. Especially when their dumb asses places a S! Edelgard or another Godsword in his range to tank lol. He kills/cripples them and then gets his GF off to attack their dancer. )
Skills that changed the Meta 2023:
A) Prime 4, Flared Sparrow
B) Guard Bearing 4, Gambit 4
C) Both Guidance Skills
Yeah, Freyr is definitly one of the best support in the entire game. His C skill is so unique and can counter so many characters, it's insane ! On top of that he can be pretty tanky and deal quite a lot of damage.
I hate that unit so much in favor battles.

you could say King Freyr is..... the GOAT.
I was happy with the Christmas banner: got Dimitri and Byleth then sparked for Edelgard.

Harmonic: 1) Bridal Tiki 2) Ayra, 3) Anna
Ascended: Do these still exist?

GHB: 1) Lumera, 2) Cyril, 3) Arion
TT: 1) MShez and I dont know anyone else who is even close

Two years ago my wife made me a shirt with the Black Eagles insignia that says "Edelgard is all you need" at the bottom. It still holds true to this day.
Omg seeing ninja Snacki as top 1 duo hero makes me so happy like I genuinely never thought IS will make a broken Sanaki but they did and I'm so happy and seeing get all this praise like she deserves it she's such an underrated so well written character! ಡ ͜ ಡ💖
And I'm glad my votes and campaigns for her did something and let IS give her a alt! Since I think I begin to notice when I really started to push and rally for her she's been getting more and more higher in placement still in 100s xD but still so yeah really happy!
Hopefully they don't forget legendary sanaki in future doe!

The normal 5 stars really highlighted a problem with "new heroes" banners. They are basically only adding 1 or 2 new heroes to the main pool per banner now which is really dumb.
Like all they had to do is re-release story characters, but as different classes/colors etc. Nothing thematically grand as an ascended hero, but literally them upgraded. (Like Matthew can be a red-dagger and as an assassin. He can still be a demote, or aprfless 5 star, give him a prf skill or weapon, etc, anything. Sure it's banner filler, but at least we're giving characters more alts that can extend game banner shelf lifes)
I can say i agree too with the pics and also i got a headache from Winter Edelgard kit was so long to read 📚 and i read a lot of books that says much to me 🙃

Mythic: Freyr (he deleted Elimine from the game 😢)
Ascended: Elincia
Attuned: Triandra (she damages you just for existing)
Rearmed: Ingrid (best weapon)
Duo: Byleth (it's early but obvious)
Harmonic: Linde (best for getting over trenches in SD)
GHB: Cornelia (best for SD and AR)
TT: Sunmer Shez
Seasonal: Winter Yunaka
Regular pool: Fallen Byleth (there's a reason she doesn't appear as a random enemy in TT)

Mythic: Freyr... yeah no question he is the best mythic. The man not only killed off the previous best mythic, Elimine. He also is essentially a defensive Elimine himself. It's just toxic. What was IS doing. His C skill could have been just. "Neutralizes false start" and he would still be top tier as an Anima mythic, but nope. IS decided to turn off all penalties instead.
Harmonic: For Harmonic I kind of disagree with Ayra I'll disagree by also using a Chess analogy. Cause while she is basically a queen in chess that can go back. I think Harmonic Linde is like you give the rook diagonal movement and bishops cardinal movement. Which is essentially just queens. Linde turns the whole team into queen pieces. While also being a queen piece herself. It's even more noticeable in Summoner Duels where trenches can be common.
Rearm: Tana... when the meta was already catriaball heavy and Tana came with a skill that made that archetype even better is nuts. It did have counterplay with Gatekeeper, but hardly anyone was running him and hardly anyone still does. Rat is also here, but most people honestly don't know how to use her. So Guidance was not only a menace throughout most of the year, even when the counters got buffed it still maintained being the most menacing skill after solely cause of the skill she introduced and how absolutely bonkers that is.
Attune: Also just for the sake of it I think Attuned could have still been given to Peony anyway. Just cause I think she just provides the most. Healing, stats, canto, an inheritable DR skill, a good galeforcer herself and an alright Attune skill although for the Attune skill itself Nino's is definitely better.
GHB: I like Arion choice I think he's a great choice I do not agree with it though I think Cornelia is slightly better though it's hard to say definitively though cause of how different they are. Arion is Hinoka at home, while Cornelia is like Ginnungagap at home. GHB is really awkward cause everyone has different reasons to want to invest into any of them. Whether for scoring, utility, you like the character, actually being a competent nuke or tank themselves.
TT: Kind of funny the difference between TT and GHB. TT was absolutely no contest. While GHB's were eating good. Tempest Trials were sleeper all year. I think the Squad Ace skills were more exciting than them.
I got nothing else to say for the Seasonal and regular 5*. The pool of units is just too huge. I feel like you could have made 3 units tie for most impactful and I would agree with all of them and still add 3 more. There was just too much. Even if those units got powercrept later on they were often times super impactful at their time. Especially the 2nd half of this year where it felt like IS started machine gunning powercreep. Every 2 weeks felt like we were getting 2 to 4 annoying units at once.
I did not mention Duo's earlier but like.... I have not much to add there. Sanaki is just.... why IS? Duo Askr was definitely relevant for a longer time and he think he definitely earns an honorable mention, but Sanaki when she came in she just.... owned the meta immediately. When conditions are right she is the closest thing to something untankable that no other unit even comes close to achieving.
The best goated unit that got me into playing back feh is fallen f byleth. I even got her to +10. I got nullc dist from l!guinnevere and null follow up seal so shes unstoppable, literally!
Ced definitely takes the ascended cake. Insane AoE nuke.
I'm blessed because i have every single one of these winners in my barracks 😊

About tana, I'd say plumeria was more impactful? Since she introduced the ploy stuff.
As for arion I do think he is better than hinoka right now. Especially with winter dimi bringing the special with him and guidance 4 (which I have on him as well he is a really strong unit.
I feel like we’re not getting enough Ascended/Rearmed Heroes in the future to worry about count anymore, unless they can all be summed together as something like “chase” heroes. I would say Nino wins the Attuned game, mostly because her attuned skill and Tempo really drive her compared to the other two, who are very good units with powerful dance effects, but with skills that aren’t really game changers across the board.
Ayra truly deserved it. I have her at +10 and pairs with Alear and it’s over for all units

Tacho needs Brave Browswer. Also, I gotta say lol to Brave Gullveig. She's not even the best on her own banner. Would probably easily take Lucia, Brave Robin, Citrinne, and Severa over her.
My favorite unit this year is hands down Arion. Not only am I a huge genealogy nut but Intsys actually let him be as strong as he is in his home game, I’d go so far as to say he’s a sidegrade to Hinoka that’s arguably stronger

I do think Arion is overrated, I mean he does sounds pretty stacked on paper with all the flying options and charge but why not just use Hinoka instead and save up a ton of valuable fodder in the process? maybe he shows up in SD, but he's nowhere to be found in other modes(just Hinoka), Cyril on the other hand is just too good for arena scoring AND usage, with just a cheap Divine codes build and NFU support he can clean most common threats, Fargus is probably very good too but we can't +10 him yet so let's wait and see on that one, that being said I understand where most people are coming from when evaluating Arion so I don't strongly disagree with the perception of him being the best.
It's kinda funny or sad that NSanaki is the "strongest duo" when I tanked her(and 4 other units) with an winter Dimitri last AR season(so no bonus stats), no vantage shennigans JUST tanking, cuz for some reason his vantage failed to proc, she did the most damage but still, my jaw dropped after witnessing that lmao, the 3H winter banner truly powercrept the game big time, tbh the duos this year have been kinda tame for meta standards, nothing too insane like Duo Dagr or Duo Thorr from previous years.
Anyway, pretty amazing and I do agree with everything, your unbiased takes are always refreshing to listen.
wtf is an ascendet hero? ive never heard of these ascendet heroes b4. Have i missed something? Maybe theres some sort of problem on that website and it displays extra heroes in this randomly named category named ascendet? I mean these units are in the normal summoning pool, i think ive pulled this version of idunn b4. wait... i remember receiving an extra item when i pulled her... WAIT!!! I THINK I REMEMBER! ITS A FLOXXXX. WHEN YOU GIVE THIS TO ONE OF YOUR OWN HEROES THEYLL BE ABLE TO GET AN ASCXXXXX TRAIT! THEY THEMSELF ALSO GET A ASXXXX TRAXXX FOR FREE. I REMEMBER!!! ASSCXXXENDXXXENT ´HEXXROEX.
