  • Kerry Earnhardt enters the studio and fills in gaps about his childhood that Dale Jr. never knew. The eldest Earnhardt details his family situation from a young age when Dale Sr. left the picture and what life was like growing up with no knowledge of his other family. Hear how he found out about his Earnhardt side, how he met his grandmother, and why it took so long to meet his dad in person.
Find out how long it took Kerry to build up the courage to go out back of Mammaw’s house and greet his dad. Hear how the interaction went and what happened at the front door when Kerry went to see his dad and meet Dale and Kelley for the first time.

Tim, trust me, I’m no Teresa Earnhardt apologist. But could you possibly look at it from another viewpoint? She’s already involved with a man with 2 previous wives and 3 kids separated between those 2 women who don’t really know much of anything about each other or their kids AT ALL, let alone having the new and added responsibility of essentially becoming an instant stepmother to both Dale & Kellie who lived with Dale & Teresa 1/2 the year. Then along comes Kerry - child (actually a teenager) number 3 out of nowhere...now I’m not justifying her cold rudeness and standoff-ishness, but she has got to be realizing at this point that she’s involved with a guy with A LOT OF BAGGAGE! That’s kind of A LOT to take in...
I don’t know it for a fact, it’s just my gut feeling, but I’m pretty sure Teresa felt like she had bitten off more than she could chew, by hitching her wagon to Dale’s. That’s the ONLY reason I’d cut her ANY slack...she might’ve been the wicked step-monster, but I give her a little bit of credit for trying to manage the load she volunteered to take on...
Just my opinion...I don’t “love” (or even LIKE her), but I also can’t hate her too much for trying...

It is very similar what Kerry describes and is such a weird experience. I was given up for adoption in 1965 and I was given to a loving family. The reason? Viet Nam was ramping up and my father was a very patriotic man. He became Lt. Cmdr. Bruce Lockwood and he flew in the RIO seat in the F4 Phantom off of the Kitty Hawk

We put our heroes on a pedestal and think they do no wrong. Dale Sr has always been one of my heroes and it saddens me to know he walked out on his child. I’m truly glad he was able to make amends and build a relationship with Kerry. My biological father walked out on me when I was an infant and today I’m 44 years old and he’s still made no effort to see me. Being abandoned is a weight that you just cannot get off of you. I’m truly glad Dale Sr did the right thing and accepted his son and treated him the way he treated his other children. I also think it’s really cool that Dale Jr and Kerry were roommates in Dale’s doublewide.

It’s unreal that how much Kerry looks like Dale Sr! I imagine Jr looking for his brother and remember his dad every time! Even the smile and the voice are similar! Unreal

That feeling of needing acceptance to talk to you’re father
I feel like this story could help a lot of people dealing with the same things and his humility is heartbreaking.
I think SR probably was glad that he came to him after so long he probably felt like it was beyond him being able to fix

I feel sorry for Kerry, no child should have to ask neither one of their parents for love. I went through a similar deal and it really hurts inside.

Sitting , listening to two brothers reminisce about growing up, not knowing each other, makes me feel like an interloper. Being the sons of my all-time favorite CUP driver, makes them special to me, especially Jr. GREAT VIDEO
