I think imo your legato lesson series would be perfect if you explain and demo to students about what is 'half-roll' and 'full-roll' legato.. so they would know/understand the technique alot better. Just my suggestion/opinion. Anyway great legato lesson though! Thanks Bernth!😎😊🎸🤘🤘🤘Hails and salutes from Singapore!
Pre disclaimer- been playing for 17 years , I’m currently 28 , but always self taught, many of this “techniques” I notice that I’ve been sort of applying and or developing them instinctively in some sort of way here and there , when composing solos or learning covers. Even tho I have never studied guitar in the way of : doing exercises. I do have been playing around 4 hours a day for the last 17 years And up to 7 hours a day on gigs season , wich here in Spain is from June to October. My progres here was: 1st day: up to 100bpm 2nd day: same 3rd day: 110bpm 4th and 5th day also 110 6th day a solid 120 7th day , surprisingly 130 8th ,9th,10th day stuck at 130 too 11th day , a quite chunky 140 12th day a clean 140 Stayed there for 6 more days trying to jump to 150 18th day , a very dirty , but all the notes played 150 19th day similar 20th day very acceptable 150 21th day same 22th clean 150 6 days trying it on 5 different scales at 130 And rehearsing this same one at 150 Day 28 , i can play 6 different scales at 140 and this one at 150 , all across the guitar. Day 29 same Day 30 got the other ones up to 150 , but a few of them need some cleaning up. Day 31 just a little improvement Day 32 got them all clean Day 33 trying to use this techinique improvising over backing tracks , while recording me. Ray 34: it’s amazing to hear the recordings and think it is me , but they need cleansing up. Using it with taste is very different from scale up scale down 35,36,37 similar. Day 38. I’m playing some pretty fast 150bpm legato solos while improvising , and it sounds clean , precise and smooth. I’ll keep practicing, but I consider skill aquired. -to all the guitarist out there , that have been playing for many years , self taught , and get depressed with , all this children , playing this techniques , like fats legato , sweep picking, hybrid picking , and make you think “you wasted so much time being lazy not practicing “ Not true , you have spent thousands of hours learning how to write tasteful music in the guitar , finding your sound , gaining experience , learning to play with other musicians , acquiring taste. But also developing a lot of strength in your hands , after so many years of playing. It took me a bit over. A month to learn how to play legato at 150bpm (because it’s doubled , the real speed you are playing blacks at is 300) Do you think a young guitar student , with 1 year of experience can achieve a 150bpm clean legato , in many different scales , all across the guitar neck , in just a little over a month? Nope , his fingers and his wrist will hurt after each 10 minutes of practice Go for it you older guitarists. They’ve got nothing on us!
Good statement, it is hard to find motivation when you've been self taught most of your life and get stuck at a certain point. I think Berth is a real good teacher when comes about breaking through this condition. I also tried this class and my results are very similar, i am not 100% satisfied with almost 200bpm playing triplets (wich is the fastest i can go playing almost full clear with high distortion when im completely warmed up. I am not capable of just grabbing the guitar and hitting this speed), but this improved hugely my left hand motion. Consistency is everything even if you can practice only 1 or 2 hours daily. Do it with honesty and dedication and we'll get there :)
Really appreciate this comment. I’m self-taught and playing on/off (mostly on) for 20 years. Never learned to shred, still play pretty slow, and only recently decided to give in and start working on speed drills with a metronome. Eager to give this a go and see how many of my wasted years will actually pay off 😀
Wow. The empathy and perspective in that statement really triggered me in a good way. So many online "teachers" make it seem like you wasted your entire life not following their structured courses while in reality, you've been developing your skills every time you picked up the guitar. Bernth's stuff helps take it to the next level and I love how Bernth also showed himself applying more and more structure over the years. It's the reality of how you develop yourself over time. You wouldn't even be doing this exercise if you hadn't played quite a bit already.
day 1: 50 (barely 60) day 2: 70 (almost 80) (yeah, worked out 3 hours tday) day 3: 80 clean MONTH 10: 110bpm clean. Can't thank bernth enough, this with other workouts as complements improved my skills a looot, can now shred solos I never thought I could. My guitar level is skyrocketing since I decided to work my guitar for real.
Day 1: 60bpm Day 2: 70bpm Day 3: 80bpm Day 4: 80 bpm Day 5: 90 bpm Day 6: 90 bpm Day 7: 100bpm (pattern 1 only) Day 8: 100bpm (pattern 1 only) Day 9: 100bpm (both patterns)
@@365daysgone I dont know what to tell u bro, thats how long i was practising for. I practised with the slower tempos for 5 minutes and then tried to increase the speed for 10 minutes. The lick itself is short and quite easy so its not that hard to progress
Love this workout!! I've spent a lot of time with it. Here's something that really helped me: if you're stuck for a while at a certain level, it's probably the pull-offs. In this workout, you exercise hammer-ons and pull-offs equally, but most people find the pull-offs harder and more difficult to speed up. If that's you (it was me), then you might want to dedicate more practice time to just the pull-offs. Try this: set a metronome to just below the speed you are stuck at, and *only* practice the pull-off run from the exercise, over and over. Do this for five minutes, gradually pushing the speed up. Then come back to the video. Doing this really helped me break through plateaus.
Bit late to the party here! Day 1: couldn't get 30bpm, fixed thumb position Day 2: 30bpm, 40 but really struggled Day 3: 50bpm Day 4: 60bpm Day 5: 60bpm clean, fumbled through 70. Never been a legato player by any stretch of the imagination, but this is totally helping so far!
This is a bit late to your comment but for your next exercise in trying for speed (for example 160) try half time then double it. Its a way of working towards a higher bpm while engraining that muscle memory at the same time
I picked up my guitar after a few years of not playing or practicing and your videos had made me improve at a super fast rate! I appreciate every-single workout and lesson you post. I feel like I’m actually controlling my fingers like never before lol. I will be subbing on your patreon soon too! Lots of appreciation for the work you put!
As someone who stopped playing for 5yrs due to life stuff getting in the way I'm VERY happy to have found your channel recently now that I wanna pick up where I left off on my guitar journey. Now your workout videos have become a regular part of my daily routines and I genuinely couldn't not be any more grateful for all the hard work you put into making these for us. Keep up the amazing videos man ❤️
Wow, I have been doing your 5 minute workout videos for only 3 days and I can actually see observable improvement! It has been so long since I could actually see myself improving, thank you Bernth, this is helping my guitar playing a lot!

Yesterday I was stuck at 30, today I am stuck at 30, I’ve been playing 15 years and I keep telling myself to listen to you and try to unlearn all the bad habits I’ve picked up. I’m doing 30 better now though!
if you are stuck at 30, that means you have major issues with economy of movement, so you need other exercises first. this is why you need a teacher. bernth can't analyze your playing and give you the right stuff to correct your issues. get a teacher. once you get to a certain level, you can start doing some things on your own.
@@xertiasstrat8957 sir that will be hard without picking on on consecutive string, i have tried your without the right hand is very hard to emitted sound only the freting hand and it sound faded on moving down
This is a nice benchmark to use. I have been working on my legato every day for 3 weeks in a way that I think works for me, about 15-30 mins per day. Previously I was getting to 70bpm, today I got to 90. I find that very encouraging!
I want to share my journey here, and i'll update it until im done, so i have this comment motivate me to keep it up!. I'm a 19yo guitarist i started with acoustic at June 2020 and i've got an electric like 6 months ago, before that i had no experience with electric guitar techniques like bendings or legato, as the time passed i've learned a little legato by covering my favorite songs and writing my own. I pick up the guitar every single day and play from 2-6 hours a day, but i don't have any strict practice routine, so this is my journey on this challenge: Day 1: 60bpm (comfortably) Day 2: 80bpm doing pretty good, 90bpm pushing it (pattern 1) Day 3: 80bpm getting more comfortable with it, still barely get to 90bpm Day 4: 80bpm, same as day 3, keeping the practice Haven't got much practice time, still picked up the guitar daily and played, i got really happy seeing that now i can apply legato to my normal playing without an effort, something i couldn't do before attempting this workout. Currently focusing at the technique and to get every note to ring with clarity and presence rather than increasing speed, really getting my hand to play with a good technique before speeding it up, need to relax my fretting hand a bit more. Very happy with the results so far :) Day 11: 90bpm
That clap at the beginning and "legato!" makes me pumped every time. Legato is my weakest lead technique and for the past week or so I have used this exercise and I can really feel the improvement already. From being stuck at around 70bpm I can now reach 100bpm convincingly and 110bpm with some sloppiness. My focus is now to reach 120bpm and after that play it as clean as possible. Thanks for this!
@@armanj4514 Sure. I'm doing this exercise three times a day. I'm reaching 120bpm every time and I notice I don't tire as easily anymore in my fretting hand. I play both exercises convincingly clean on 110bpm. I'm still not able to play it cleanly at 120, but I'm working on it. The results I've had in 3 weeks has been beyond expectations so I highly recommend this exercise.
My final update on this is that after about 4 and a half weeks I can play the exercise all the way through cleanly. I'm still keeping it in my daily warm up routine, but I can safely say that this exercise is legit and you see daily improvements.
I'm not too sure how far I'm going to get but I appreciate this content being here. 1:42 I'm not sure if this is how I'm supposed to do it but I set a 10 minute timer and limited myself to those ten minutes since I clrealy needed to repeat the video, otherwise I could be here all day at this rate. Day 01; 50 BPM any faster and my notes were getting buzzy and slurred.
Thank you so much for this video. As an intermediate who's avoided legato for so long, this is a perfect kickstarter. Been doing it everyday for 5 days now and my fretting hand is already cleaner than before
Day 1 12/19: 100BPM Day 2 12/20: 110BPM Day 9 12/27: 120BPM - most of the time Day 11 x/28: 120BPM - a bit messy Day 12 x/30: Complete After days of practicing this one, I was able to pull off (no pun intended) with pull offs not sounding like bending. Took very focused practicing, but very happy to say I did it!
I started following along these videos over the weekend.. I’ve been inconsistently playing since the 8th grade and often discouraged. I’m 28 now.. Since I’ve started these videos I’ve leapt bounds that I’ve only dreamt of. Thank you!
Been playing this workout for about a year on and off and I just barely made it to 120 bpm, playing most of the notes consistently and evenly, although my triplet pull-offs could use some more clarity and the last triplet section is still a bit too fast for my fingers. I was playing this exercise daily for over 3 weeks and I was stuck at 100-110bpm. After not practicing this for a couple months and then coming back to it, to my surprise, I could actually get most of 120bpm to sound clean. Weird how that works when you put something down for awhile then come back to it later your mind has a different perspective. Thank you for all that you do Bernth!
Day 3: 30-07-21 made it fo 80 bpm 90 was unconfortable 100 unplayable, but 3 days ago I was stocked on 70 bpm, so it's a matter of time Thanks for the material bernth!!! \m/
I love it! Started playing guitar again after a 2 year break and using your 5 minute workout sessions to get fast again. Already at 110bmp again! :D You are the best!
I have never been able to play those descending 3 notes per string legato patterns on the lower strings but this exercise finally made it "click" for me. Thanks a bunch!
As with others that I see who've been in the same camp as I am, I haven't truly played guitar in over two years due to life and health stuff getting in the way, and I've only just, JUST recently started back into it. I'm so thankful for all the videos and workout challenges that you create, because I would honestly be lost without them. In only a week my playing and techniques have dramatically improved from where it was before, just by following your exercise routines. Your videos are some of the absolute best I've seen through hours of scouring TH-cam for exercise clips. Thank you so very much for all the hard work and dedication you put into making these, they are truly blessings! ✌️

2021-07-29: Made it to 120 BPM today. It was sloppy as hell but I ended at the same time as BERNTH! One thing I've noticed is how he has mentioned in another video his pull-offs are very distinct and he has practiced them not hitting the neighboring string. It is very evident here and something I need to work on, too.
2021-08-02: Feeling pretty good, still at 120, getting less sloppy! Now I am not sure if I am getting better, or if the previous sweep and shred challenges were just that much harder, lol.
30bpm is all I can muster right now, and I'm not content with the sustain/clarity of my notes as I descend the scale. I need to work on ensuring I have the upcoming note fretted before pulling off the prior one. Good drill! I'll keep with this and see if it improves over a week.
@@julianstbye3821 Sorry I haven't posted! Been sick a few days this week. I'm struggling to keep up with 50bpm now, but have improved to do 30 and 40 cleanly. I'll keep working, it's a neat exercise.
Its really cool to see how much that roll was always missed by me, finally broken down. As im sure many guitarist are seeing. Big speed unlocker to throw with my decent quarter century of exp
Background: Intermediate player who started to really learn lead techniques about half a year ago. Have used some guitar solo parts as legato practise but haven't done it consistently Day 1: 40 bpm, a bit sloppy but the worst part is guitar noise. thought I was already rid of that! Day 2: 50 bpm with less noise :) Day 3: 50 bpm Day 4: 50 bpm Day 5: 50 bpm still but more smooth Day 6: 50 bpm again... anyway, I think doing this everyday helps to not use too much force. I played one song with a simple legato riff that used to get my fingers tired but now it was a lot easier Day 7: 50 bpm Day 8: 50 bpm Day 9: 50 bpm. tried without the video only with a metronome and found the triplets quite tricky Day 10: 50 bpm, could almost do the next level Day 11: 50 bpm Day 12: 60 bpm 🥳 Day 13: 60 bpm. playing felt lighter and easier today than before, could almost do the next level ~a few days break~ Day 14: 60 bpm Day 15: 60 bpm Day 16: 60 bpm, can do the slow part of the next level Day 17: 60 bpm, stuck at this but sounds better Day 18: 60 bpm Day 19: 60 bpm Day 20: 60 bpm... I see improvement in technique again and quite close to nailing the next level Day 21: 60 bpm Day 22: 70 bpm 😺 Day 23: 70 bpm &first part of the next level Day 24: 70 bpm Day 25: 70 bpm Day 26: 70 bpm Day 27: 70 bpm Day 28: 70 bpm. still trying to make this level sound clean. I don't even feel like pushing the speed today. I'll save my fingers for the last 2 days just in case Day 29: 80 bpm 😼 managed the next level after taking it easy for a day Day 30: 80 bpm After 30 days: I'm very glad with the results! Not fast yet but for me there was a lot of progress. This has improved my legato playing a lot and just fretting hand in general. I'll now try to find a similar exercise with a different pattern because this was just what I needed. Thanks a lot!
been doing this for a couple of days. I'm ALREADY seeing improvement. Started OK at 30 BPM, but now I'm getting through 50 BPM fairly decently! Fingers start tripping over eachother after that, but in time!
Dude your whole program is awesome. I enjoy how your metronomes sound like your still at band practice when you’re working on technique and it’s so reliving that practice doesn’t feel like practice.
Started 12/12/21 This is an awesome exercise, fun as well. I'm using the 5 min alternate picking workout and now combined with Legato exercise as part of my workouts. 70 first day, but was able to get to 90 today, and sloppy 100. Ill do it for a month straight . I'll post result after 30.
@@SamuelBravo I'm still doing the 5 min Alt picking syncro daily and the 5 min Legato. I am able to do 120BPM every note, and starting to hit some of 130. It really works , I am doing better on speed for a lot of licks. Its just gradual, so I guess measuring by month is good for me. Legato is really a good workout but stuck at 80 and can do a little bit of 90 but I get tripped up . Are you doing some of the workouts?
Day 1: 50bmp Day 50: 100BPM almost clean. I havent been doing this consistently due to being sick and not focusing on guitar. But still some good improvements i think :)
I've read the title and still brace myself to watch this vid with awareness that I'm a beginner myself. This vid challenges me to practice more to this level! Hope I can make it someday.
Day 1, 90bpm just about, lose it on 100bpm Day 2, 100bpm, needs a bit more work but can be done, and 90 a lot more fluently. Will push for 110 over next few days Day 3, same as day 2 Day 4, managed to get to 100bpm fairly fluently, 110bpm max, will try to clean up Day 5, same as day 4 Day 6, 100bpm still good, pushed for both 110 and 120, but lost it, seems within my grasp though Day 7, Took a break cause holiday, litte rough, so hopefully only a few days to get back to where I was though, comfortable up till 90 though Day 8, I've lost a lot of motivation since holidays, been big gaps between practice, need to stay motivated, and get through each day as it comes, I'll improve so long as I stick to it, 100bpm really rough Day 9, !00bpm still rough, previous tempos more consistent now though at least Day 10, felt a lot more comfortable at 100, and kind of got 110bpm, pushed onto 120 even though I lost it to really push myself Day 11, same as day 10 Day 12, Feeling a little rough after going back to school, so a little hard, but did my best, 100bpm max for today
April 19, 2022 100 BPM. Great legato lesson. Decided to really get back into guitar again. After my last band split last summer I’ve taken a break from strict practice and music but I am back and ready to learn and improve. Hopefully substantially in a short period of time.
Yes! Thank god I subbed to your Patron bro! I am so super happy, Legato is the one I do love the most, Greetings from Poland bro, I fkng love this man.
day 1: 30 bpm, going down on hammer-ons is easy, but coming back up on pull-offs is hard, i barely make a sound on the triplets day2: 30 bpm, still struggling with the pull-offs but managing to make the string sound better day 3: ?? bpm. set the video to 0.75 on the 30bpm part so I could take my time and really understand what my fingers are supposed to do, without rushing and making a mess day 4: 7 months later, coming back, 30bpm, smooth, but not good enough to reach 40bpm :)
Day 1: couldn't even do 30bpm pull-offs were hard Day 2: getting easier to play at 30bpm Day 3: 40bpm Day 4: 50bpm Day 5: 60bpm Day 6: 70bpm Day 7: 80bpm Day 8: 90bpm Day 9: 90bpm Day 10: 90bpm Day 11: 100bpm Writing this down really shows the progress I made. Thanks Bernth
finally got to push it over 80bpm. hopefully next week i'll beat the 90bpm.moreover, the stretching and rushing has helped me so much not only developing my legato but every aspect of my technique. thank u so much for your content, Bernth

i do this excercise everytime i practice, and my legato and overall feel and strength in left hand improved a lot! i can say 100bpm is comfortable for me, 110 is challenging and i messing it up often, 120 is my goal for this year :)

Such an amazing workout this is! Thank you so much Bernth! I have started this exercise recently and started to see the difference on my playing! Thanks for being there and giving us these helpful exercises!
Awesome! You'll find tons of goodies on Bernth's channel! A friendly tip though; Try to stick with the restrictions of the exercise (in this case legato). I've done myself bad favors in the past by misinterpreting and practicing badly only to realize at a much later stage that I didn't actually practice the thing I thought I was. :)
Awesome, I was stuck and thanks to you and your help. I have started to master it in just a few days. Thank you so much, I have this saved in my playlist.

28 July 2020.. Havent started yet.. I'll edit once I've started Love this guy! Your videos help me improve so so much everyday, i always watch your videos and play along with you. You are AWESOME!!!
Love your videos man, especially the ones focusing on technique and practice routines. I’m not a metal player, but the concepts definitely transfer. Horns up brotha 🤟
yo! i was trying to do the intro lick for am I evil (the metallic cover) and I was all messed up, after going to this drill for 5 mins it tremendously improved my technique (i had no technique really) Thaks a bunch!
Great video. If I start at 100 BLM I can make it through 120 but to play from 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 70, 80, 80, 100,110 and 120 I loose it physically. Obviously I need to adjust my technique to achieve zero tension (not 0 but as little unnecessary tension so that I can not turning it into a forearm muscular endurance workout. Obviously, the exercise should be performed free of a y lactic acid burn. Whenever I feel that when I am playing it's a signal that adjustments (physical as well as mental, emotional) must be made because something is causing tension whether it's structural or related to my minds inability to be still in a sort of meditation without losing some level of focus. Obviously I need some level of focus initially but ultimately I need to be capable of doing it precisely without any conscious thought. Whenever thinking enters the equation when I am improvising or simply playing a part, it is a sign that it is not yet so engrained neurologically that it plays all by itself . That's when I have the best performances and I wish I could always be in that flow state but I am making it a priority to play without undue self consciousness or better yet without thoughts of self doubt or any what if I make A mistake entering my head. Every year it's easier, but then there's always a new challenge. The cool thing is even if the new skill is unrelated to things that are still a work in progress, when I try anything that is totally unfamiliar like the Travis picking journey I started about a year ago, it seems to make challenging flat picking exercises much easier. I have no idea why.
Day 1: 90 bpm was the limit for relative comfort, once I got to 100, I felt the burn 🔥! Day 2: 90 bpm for pattern 2, but I got to 100 for pattern 1 haven’t been great about doing this every day.
Share today's practice results below! ⬇️ My brand new 30 day legato online course is finally available here: www.patreon.com/bernth 🤘
I like how around 110 BPM and above it looks like time can't keep up with your finger's on the video😂
Saturday May 13th 2023 120 and climbing clocked 150bpm
Pre disclaimer- been playing for 17 years , I’m currently 28 , but always self taught, many of this “techniques” I notice that I’ve been sort of applying and or developing them instinctively in some sort of way here and there , when composing solos or learning covers.
Even tho I have never studied guitar in the way of : doing exercises.
I do have been playing around 4 hours a day for the last 17 years
And up to 7 hours a day on gigs season , wich here in Spain is from June to October.
My progres here was:
1st day: up to 100bpm
2nd day: same
3rd day: 110bpm
4th and 5th day also 110
6th day a solid 120
7th day , surprisingly 130
8th ,9th,10th day stuck at 130 too
11th day , a quite chunky 140
12th day a clean 140
Stayed there for 6 more days trying to jump to 150
18th day , a very dirty , but all the notes played 150
19th day similar
20th day very acceptable 150
21th day same
22th clean 150
6 days trying it on 5 different scales at 130
And rehearsing this same one at 150
Day 28 , i can play 6 different scales at 140 and this one at 150 , all across the guitar.
Day 29 same
Day 30 got the other ones up to 150 , but a few of them need some cleaning up.
Day 31 just a little improvement
Day 32 got them all clean
Day 33 trying to use this techinique improvising over backing tracks , while recording me.
Ray 34: it’s amazing to hear the recordings and think it is me , but they need cleansing up.
Using it with taste is very different from scale up scale down
35,36,37 similar.
Day 38. I’m playing some pretty fast 150bpm legato solos while improvising , and it sounds clean , precise and smooth.
I’ll keep practicing, but I consider skill aquired.
-to all the guitarist out there , that have been playing for many years , self taught , and get depressed with , all this children , playing this techniques , like fats legato , sweep picking, hybrid picking , and make you think “you wasted so much time being lazy not practicing “
Not true , you have spent thousands of hours learning how to write tasteful music in the guitar , finding your sound , gaining experience , learning to play with other musicians , acquiring taste. But also developing a lot of strength in your hands , after so many years of playing.
It took me a bit over. A month to learn how to play legato at 150bpm (because it’s doubled , the real speed you are playing blacks at is 300)
Do you think a young guitar student , with 1 year of experience can achieve a 150bpm clean legato , in many different scales , all across the guitar neck , in just a little over a month?
Nope , his fingers and his wrist will hurt after each 10 minutes of practice
Go for it you older guitarists.
They’ve got nothing on us!
Everything you said is so try, and inspiring
Eager to give this a go and see how many of my wasted years will actually pay off 😀
bro, you are an absolute frickin humanoid. Rspect
You wouldn't even be doing this exercise if you hadn't played quite a bit already.
day 1: 50 (barely 60)
day 2: 70 (almost 80) (yeah, worked out 3 hours tday)
day 3: 80 clean
MONTH 10: 110bpm clean.
Can't thank bernth enough, this with other workouts as complements improved my skills a looot, can now shred solos I never thought I could. My guitar level is skyrocketing since I decided to work my guitar for real.
Day 1: 60bpm
Day 2: 70bpm
Day 3: 80bpm
Day 4: 80 bpm
Day 5: 90 bpm
Day 6: 90 bpm
Day 7: 100bpm (pattern 1 only)
Day 8: 100bpm (pattern 1 only)
Day 9: 100bpm (both patterns)
Thats some great progress, and just in 9 days!
@@365daysgone Its been a while so im not quite sure, but about 10-15 minutes a day
@@365daysgone I dont know what to tell u bro, thats how long i was practising for.
Thanks for that.thats the part that's hard for me.i will do this for next few days
Bit late to the party here!
Day 1: couldn't get 30bpm, fixed thumb position
Day 2: 30bpm, 40 but really struggled
Day 3: 50bpm
Day 4: 60bpm
Day 5: 60bpm clean, fumbled through 70.
Never been a legato player by any stretch of the imagination, but this is totally helping so far!
doubled your speed in 5 days nice work
110bpm was the limit to my comfort, barely made it to 120bpm, great exercise, you can feel the burn
This is a bit late to your comment but for your next exercise in trying for speed (for example 160) try half time then double it. Its a way of working towards a higher bpm while engraining that muscle memory at the same time
@@ApacheX11 It's never too late. Always share hints!! I just started, day two, 110bmp, now reading this, so I will try your hint. Thanks!

Also noticed you’re hybrid picking while ascending, will definitely practice that too
Enjoying these 30 day workouts uve been doing. Never seen myself improve so fast in my life lol.

I pick up the guitar every single day and play from 2-6 hours a day, but i don't have any strict practice routine, so this is my journey on this challenge:
Day 1: 60bpm (comfortably)
Day 2: 80bpm doing pretty good, 90bpm pushing it (pattern 1)
Day 3: 80bpm getting more comfortable with it, still barely get to 90bpm
Day 4: 80bpm, same as day 3, keeping the practice
Haven't got much practice time, still picked up the guitar daily and played, i got really happy seeing that now i can apply legato to my normal playing without an effort, something i couldn't do before attempting this workout. Currently focusing at the technique and to get every note to ring with clarity and presence rather than increasing speed, really getting my hand to play with a good technique before speeding it up, need to relax my fretting hand a bit more. Very happy with the results so far :)
Day 11: 90bpm
That clap at the beginning and "legato!" makes me pumped every time. Legato is my weakest lead technique and for the past week or so I have used this exercise and I can really feel the improvement already. From being stuck at around 70bpm I can now reach 100bpm convincingly and 110bpm with some sloppiness. My focus is now to reach 120bpm and after that play it as clean as possible. Thanks for this!
any update

Day 3: 30-07-21 made it fo 80 bpm 90 was unconfortable 100 unplayable, but 3 days ago I was stocked on 70 bpm, so it's a matter of time

I love it! Started playing guitar again after a 2 year break and using your 5 minute workout sessions to get fast again. Already at 110bmp again! :D You are the best!
There are guitarists who help you learn legatos. Then there is Bernth. You are such a help. Floored absolutely.
way to showing how completely efficient a practice session can be!! You did alot of work in that small time!

@@rotatingdriveline3466 what about now
@@armanj4514 Had a kid, chops went to hell, lol! Will get back on the wagon eventually.
30bpm is all I can muster right now, and I'm not content with the sustain/clarity of my notes as I descend the scale. I need to work on ensuring I have the upcoming note fretted before pulling off the prior one. Good drill! I'll keep with this and see if it improves over a week.
Did you improve?
@@julianstbye3821 Sorry I haven't posted! Been sick a few days this week. I'm struggling to keep up with 50bpm now, but have improved to do 30 and 40 cleanly. I'll keep working, it's a neat exercise.
I'm able to do it at 50bpm now, struggling with 60. Haven't practiced enough for the last couple weeks, too many other distractions in life.
Its really cool to see how much that roll was always missed by me, finally broken down. As im sure many guitarist are seeing. Big speed unlocker to throw with my decent quarter century of exp
Background: Intermediate player who started to really learn lead techniques about half a year ago. Have used some guitar solo parts as legato practise but haven't done it consistently
Day 1: 40 bpm, a bit sloppy but the worst part is guitar noise. thought I was already rid of that!
Day 2: 50 bpm with less noise :)
Day 3: 50 bpm
Day 4: 50 bpm
Day 5: 50 bpm still but more smooth
Day 6: 50 bpm again... anyway, I think doing this everyday helps to not use too much force. I played one song with a simple legato riff that used to get my fingers tired but now it was a lot easier
Day 7: 50 bpm
Day 8: 50 bpm
Day 9: 50 bpm. tried without the video only with a metronome and found the triplets quite tricky
Day 10: 50 bpm, could almost do the next level
Day 11: 50 bpm
Day 12: 60 bpm 🥳
Day 13: 60 bpm. playing felt lighter and easier today than before, could almost do the next level
~a few days break~
Day 14: 60 bpm
Day 15: 60 bpm
Day 16: 60 bpm, can do the slow part of the next level
Day 17: 60 bpm, stuck at this but sounds better
Day 18: 60 bpm
Day 19: 60 bpm
Day 20: 60 bpm... I see improvement in technique again and quite close to nailing the next level
Day 21: 60 bpm
Day 22: 70 bpm 😺
Day 23: 70 bpm &first part of the next level
Day 24: 70 bpm
Day 25: 70 bpm
Day 26: 70 bpm
Day 27: 70 bpm
Day 28: 70 bpm. still trying to make this level sound clean. I don't even feel like pushing the speed today. I'll save my fingers for the last 2 days just in case
Day 29: 80 bpm 😼 managed the next level after taking it easy for a day
Day 30: 80 bpm
After 30 days: I'm very glad with the results! Not fast yet but for me there was a lot of progress. This has improved my legato playing a lot and just fretting hand in general. I'll now try to find a similar exercise with a different pattern because this was just what I needed. Thanks a lot!
You are making me better and better every day in 🎸
Thank you so much ❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥
been doing this for a couple of days. I'm ALREADY seeing improvement. Started OK at 30 BPM, but now I'm getting through 50 BPM fairly decently! Fingers start tripping over eachother after that, but in time!
Day 1 (March 14) : 30bpm
Day 2 (March 15) : 50bpm
Day 3 (March 16) : 70bpm
Day 4 (March 17) : 80bpm (pattern 1 only)
Dude your whole program is awesome.
How are you doing with the exercises? Have you improved a lot or a little?
Thanks a lot. Was awaiting for this. Your workouts significantly improved my playing.. 👍🙏
Happy to help, I'll keep them coming :)
I've read the title and still brace myself to watch this vid with awareness that I'm a beginner myself. This vid challenges me to practice more to this level! Hope I can make it someday.
Day 1, 90bpm just about, lose it on 100bpm
Day 2, 100bpm, needs a bit more work but can be done, and 90 a lot more fluently. Will push for 110 over next few days
Day 3, same as day 2
Day 4, managed to get to 100bpm fairly fluently, 110bpm max, will try to clean up
Day 5, same as day 4
Day 6, 100bpm still good, pushed for both 110 and 120, but lost it, seems within my grasp though
Day 7, Took a break cause holiday, litte rough, so hopefully only a few days to get back to where I was though, comfortable up till 90 though
Day 8, I've lost a lot of motivation since holidays, been big gaps between practice, need to stay motivated, and get through each day as it comes, I'll improve so long as I stick to it, 100bpm really rough
Day 9, !00bpm still rough, previous tempos more consistent now though at least
Day 10, felt a lot more comfortable at 100, and kind of got 110bpm, pushed onto 120 even though I lost it to really push myself
Day 11, same as day 10
Day 12, Feeling a little rough after going back to school, so a little hard, but did my best, 100bpm max for today

Made it too 120bmp July 28th, tons of fun. I love playing legato!
day 1: 30 bpm, going down on hammer-ons is easy, but coming back up on pull-offs is hard, i barely make a sound on the triplets
day2: 30 bpm, still struggling with the pull-offs but managing to make the string sound better
day 3: ?? bpm. set the video to 0.75 on the 30bpm part so I could take my time and really understand what my fingers are supposed to do, without rushing and making a mess
day 4: 7 months later, coming back, 30bpm, smooth, but not good enough to reach 40bpm :)
Day 1: couldn't even do 30bpm pull-offs were hard
Day 2: getting easier to play at 30bpm

finally got to push it over 80bpm. hopefully next week i'll beat the 90bpm.moreover, the stretching and rushing has helped me so much not only developing my legato but every aspect of my technique. thank u so much for your content, Bernth

Day 1 - 18 June 2023- Just took time to learn the notes
Day 2 - 30 bpm (I realized that ascending legato speed is good but not descending. So I can play ascending much faster than 40 bpm but I did not since, I want to increase speed of both at the same time.
Day 3 - 50 BPM both patterns 20 June 2023
Day 5 - 60 BPM both patterns, 70 BPM attempted pattern 1 but not able to play descending properly 22 June 2023
Day 8 - 60 BPM both and 70 BPM pattern 1 only
Day 9 - 70 BPM both patterns, 80 bpm pattern 1 (26 June 2023)
Day 20 - 80 BPM both patterns (pattern 2 sloppy) 90 bpm only pattern 1 with ascending
Day 36 - 90 bpm pattern 1 only. pattern 2 sloppy but can manage to do 100 bpm pattern 1 only
Forgot the day but its 9 aug 2023 and I can do pattern 1 100 bpm
I like that challenge format of the video. Once i started to play along the mistakes started to appear kkkkk and then the real challenge begun in my head
i do this excercise everytime i practice, and my legato and overall feel and strength in left hand improved a lot! i can say 100bpm is comfortable for me, 110 is challenging and i messing it up often, 120 is my goal for this year :)
Seeing progress! Started out struggling with 30BPM, now managing up to 50 4 or 5 practice sessions later! Going all the way up!

nice exercise. thank you

I love the way this legato practice becomes a sweep picking practice in a half of a minute xd
Those triplets are killing me, great exercise!
