      I love the exercises and appreciate the work.thank you. just providing some feedback I must say that the tab intonation font being so small and going so fast makes it super difficult and discouraging. Even if I reduce the play back speed, the font is too small for people without a perfect 20 20. Anyone else think so?

      These exercises are modified AND AMAZINGLY COMMUNICATED in a fashion that are probably the best I've ever come across (ever) ...naturally, some I've figured out on my own (some example being speed bursts; equal temperament, dynamics, w/ legato, etc; slight lead/lag issues and why.. and so on, etc.) ...BUUUT then hearing you say it (and seeing it) REALLY engrains it in!! ..and I'll be using a LOT more of these with and w/o modifications..as one should 🙂🤘🏻

    Exercise #4 just happens to be present on John Petrucci's Rock Discipline and it's is indeed great. John also recommends using string skipping with it (instead of playing 4 strings I'm a row, use the Low E, A, D and High E strings)

    I need to tell you. I was stuck for years with many things. Synchronizing hands, position of freting hand and so on. But after watching your workouts I finally belive that I can jump over the speed wich I was thinking is impossible for me. Especially this workout suprised me how fast I progress. You're the men. Thank you 😃

    These are the best lessons for improving picking technique I've ever found after years of playing guitar. One thing I noticed whilst trying to increase my speed on the two note per string exercise was my pick depth. If you come from a blues background and are used to digging in more it takes an adjustment for shredding. Now during this exercise, it feels like I'm going to miss the strings with the tip but I don't, instead, I get a much lighter feel using far less energy almost like floating over the top, just better for speed but it feels strange, something I will have to get used to.

    • @LovesickBluesBoi
      @LovesickBluesBoi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Rick I am currently working on my shredding skills. I come from more blues background, but years ago I played rhythm in thrash/ death metal. I love to dig into it, use the pick harder on strings, use a lot of grip in my left hand while bending etc. Since two months I started seriously practicing to be able to do solo's, working daily on my techniques and reducing my bad habits. As you said, it feels strange, almost like learning for the first time how to play. Effortless at times, like I seriously don't even feel my fingers moving wondering how my fingers reached the string etc. That effortlessness is somehow discomforting, especially with bends. I struggle so much now with clean bends, because my whole left hand is in a different position, and I have my guitar a lot higher, standing straight. It definitely takes time to get used to. Hope you're doing well Rick!!

    My favourite exercise for the pinky is to use only the ring finger and the pinky.
    You can practice it on every thread.
    for example you can do it on the 5 Thread for the ring finger and 6 thread for the pinky.
    You start on the 1st string first the ring finger then the pinky.
    Next step repeat it on the 2nd string, then the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th and then the same up, 5th string, 4th string, 3rd string, 2nd string and then the 1st.
    do it down and up and down and up.
    At the beginning it is really hard, but after a time it goes faster and faster.

    w/a band for now,I can still get better&play w/backing tracks while practicing&at least thankful that I can play as others might not able due to health!"Jason becker"-what a talented player&its sad to see him now esp.that one of the bad ass players ever in his condition,that can't play at all!

    Hey Bernth, as always thanks for the video! wanted to ask you two things about the practice routine, that i think can be usefull for a lot of us:
    -should we change it weekly or only when we see that we do not improve anymore on an exercise?
    -is there an ideal time per exercise? in the video you said 10 minutes, but i see often recommended 5 minutes.
    I would also appraciate the opinion of other guitarists!

      @remy-theorangeskyslasher6184 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the first question, I’d say when you see change/improvement, that means you are in the process of mastering the exercice, and an exercice will never be useless. Keep working on it and have a goal, example: I want to break the 150 bpm barrier. As for the second, I read that the brain remembers a pattern when it was worked on for 5 minutes/day, but if you have more than 5 minutes, get to 15 minutes or whatever it may be according to the time you have. Hope this helps!

    Best guitar advice I ever had is no matter how hard I practice, how good I get, how much time I play and write... there will always be someone better in some way. So never try to be the absolute best. Find that lane that really resonates with you and pursue it. Improvise. Even when you have mastered a riff, intentionally mess up and practice improv. The better you are at improv the better you will sound live.

I was playing on electric guitar and I notice I could hear a fainted notes coming thru but nothing out the amplifier.... it puzzles me but now I think I know how to get the sided ring out it dawn to me that maybe there should a headstock pickup (where the tuner keys are at) .... maybe on acoustic we could hollow out the headstock to get that a effect but one thing at a time ... thanks for reading comment I hope this inspired you as u had with these youtube channel

So i put my ring finger on the 13th fret and my middle finger on the 11th and then just went down the fretboard a few times like that and at the end my fingers were fairly stretched apart and the problem fixed itself in less than 15 minutes (if anyone else has this problem try this)

    In the first exercise you play on 3 frets but use the pinky finger.
    Why do you use your pinky when it should be your ring? And how would i know what fingers to use by looking at the tab?

      To be fair there is no ‘should’ or ‘have to’ I agree generally you would keep your fingers to the scale box shapes but it’s not set in stone and it might be easier for your next move if you use your little finger instead of your ring finger

    Hi Bernth, I was lucky and won the ticket for your concert on Saturday 07/10 in Milan. I hope to be able to meet you in person, shake your hand and thank you for all the work you do for us. If possible I would like to take a photo with you. See you Saturday, Massimo

    @bernthguitar are you plucking when pulling off from the last fret of the higher phrase for the legato hammer on/pull of exercise?

    The spider excercise also that i learned from you were really helpful for my fretting hand. The spider excercise with added detail where you shouldn't lift your finger at the same time your next finger frets another notes like this 4:16. That little detail really is actually helpful. I've been doing those exercise for years the wrong way. I got faster but something is wrong but somehow when I started doing that little detail it makes me feel like my fingers are doing it right while playing. 😅

    What guitar is that that you’re using in the exercises (silver)? It’s so cool. This video is super cool.

    Do you have an specific exercises for vibrato and bends? Also is it okay to change strings from 10’s to 9’s for beginners?
