Deine Videos sind Super. Danke! Aber wie du immer sagst get out of the comfort Zone.
Yay, Today I made it to 120. I was so surprised when the music stopped. To make it to 120 BPM took me months, but helped me heal my ligaments and it inspired me to get back in to teaching. Started my channel today! Also designed my first exercise and logos and everything. Thanks for getting me excited about life Bernth!!! Du bisch echt mal richtig der Hammer, Alter!
Pro tip for all sweepers: make sure to also do a variation of this excercise where the ASCENDING sweeps are the faster ones! I tried another sweeping excercise and found out that after practicing this one, there's a serious disproportion between my ascending and descending sweeps. Hope it helps you and good luck breaking your limits :)
good idea. i just played it reversed, starting at the high note, played all the way through it, but it was a little more challenging. especially the e minor one.
This is good advice for legit 90% of exercises I think. It’s all ways good to learn the reverse or the mirror on guitar. Makes your hands more versatile in what they can pull off. And if your brain or feel decides you need to do something unconventional to your muscle memory you have a better chance to pull it off.
Can this (OP’s) comment be pinned please? By the way I modified the GP tab by extending the fast bit going back up again and then slowly going down so there is a full mirror pattern.
Another update: up to 120 now. I'm learning little things that have led to improvements. I've found it interesting that as the speed increases, my right hand has become increasingly unreliable when it comes to keeping the tempo. My left hand fingers coming down on the frets gives me more feedback on my rhythm. Also, Rick Graham's planting technique video has helped make the sweeping sound much more fluid. If anything, doing this has shown me just how much power there is to practicing one thing. I used to try and practice everything with little success, and now I'm sweeping faster than ever before. Thanks, Bernth!
maybe a little late for a comment, anyway... I had the same problem for a long time, the left hand was doing fine, but the right hand wasnt "fluent" (in lack of a better word). I found that for me, it helped to angle the pick in a way, that it would only "conquer" the next string, when this string was already pushed down by the finger. So the left hand dictateted the speed in which the pick could sweep from one string to the next string. If the right hand was to fast, the pick would just be blocked by the next string until it was pushed down. Helped me immensely to speed it up and stay in time. I hardly have to think about my right hand anymore.
You just helped me pinpoint an issue I've been having with my picking technique by mentioning planting (immediately checked out that Rick Graham video). I realized my right hand was in the wrong place after picking the first note in the first hammer-on. By preparing the next downstroke while hammering on the sweep got instantly better. Thank you my friend for pointing me in the right direction!
Finally, after two hard months , i managed to do 120 bpm clean. It was a lot of work, but it was all worth it and it opened a lot of doors for songs that i never thought i would be able to play. Time to set the video at 1.25 and keep grinding. I really recommend that once you get more comfortable you also try clint tustin 5 sweeping exercices and bernth 8 minute ultimate sweep picking workout. Thank you bernth!!
October 26th, 2022 : Day 1 - 60 bpm ( No experience sweep picking whatsoever ) October 27th 2022 : Day 2 - 70 bpm (Sloppy) October 28th 2022 : Day 3 - 70 bpm (Sloppy) October 29th 2022 : Day 4 - 70 bpm (Less sloppy) October 30th 2022 : Day 5 - 70 bpm (Clean) October 31st 2022 : Day 6 - 70 bpm First adjusted how I hold my pick, and got used to it a bit with closed hand position. Your tips are a huge eyeopener for me. Thank you Bernth!
July 8th - 80Bpm, watch out for the arpeggio pattern (2 minor, 2 Major, 1 minor, 1 Major, 1minor, 1 Major) then change speed. got me all the time! Brilliant by the way Master BERNTH!
Waaaaaw, toady, 28.03.2023, is the first time after some good months of daily practice I manage to play at 120 bpm without loosing track of it. I just woke up as usual at 5 AM, started with Best 25 MIN GUITAR TECHNIQUE WORKOUT second fast part for heat up and this sweep challenge is the next on the practice and my most beloved one. And I managed to get to the end without loosing it. Still not perfect clear notes over 100, more work to do, but I did it and I always felt I will never do! Amazing stuff! Thanks for all the hard work you do for us!
well..I do exactly this (kind off) for 20 years now..and I am a still a shitty sweeper...sweep picking is my arch enemy..but I am great at making Pancakes
edit: around day 4 I realized that if I try the same pattern in reverse, I suck at quick down sweeps so I started doing it both in regular way and in reverse. When I woke up at day 7 my string broke and I noticed that it broke 2 times in a week in the same spot so I got my guitar repaired. It took 2 weeks so unfortunately had 2 weeks break. BEFORE BREAK: Sep 4th 2022 -> Day 1: 70 BPM Sep 5th 2022 -> Day 2: 80 BPM Sep 6th 2022 -> Day 3: 90 BPM Sep 7th 2022 -> Day 4: regular 90 BPM / reverse 70 BPM Sep 8th 2022 -> Day 5: regular 90 BPM / reverse 80 BPM Sep 9th 2022 -> Day 6: regular 100 BPM / reverse 80 BPM Sep 10th 2022 -> Day 7: just broke my string and I don't have any new ones AFTER BREAK: Sep 24th 2022 -> Day 7: regular 90 BPM / reverse 80 BPM - a little regress over 2 weeks but hopefully I'll get back on track pretty soon Sep 25th 2022 -> Day 8: regular 90 BPM / reverse 80 BPM Sep 26th 2022 -> Day 9: regular 90 BPM / reverse 80 BPM Sep 27th 2022 -> Day 10: regular 100 BPM / reverse 90 BPM Sep 28th 2022 -> Day 11: regular 100 BPM / reverse 90 BPM Sep 29th 2022 -> Day 12: regular 100 BPM / reverse 90 BPM Sep 30th 2022 -> Day 13: regular 100 BPM / reverse 90 BPM (even clunkier than before) Oct 1st 2022 -> Day 14: regular 100 BPM / reverse 90 BPM (I feel progress but still not clean enough) Oct 2st 2022 -> Day 15: regular 90 BPM / reverse 100 BPM (???) Oct 3st 2022 -> Day 16: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM (!!!) Oct 4st 2022 -> Day 17: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM Oct 5st 2022 -> Day 18: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM Oct 6st 2022 -> Day 19: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM Oct 7st 2022 -> Day 20: took a day off Oct 8st 2022 -> Day 21: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM Oct 9st 2022 -> Day 22: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM (I feel stuck) Oct 10st 2022 -> Day 23: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM Oct 11st 2022 -> Day 24: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM Oct 12st 2022 -> Day 25: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM (higher speeds are getting cleaner but still not what I want) Oct 13st 2022 -> Day 26: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM Oct 14st 2022 -> Day 27: got sick, didn't have the power to practice Oct 15st 2022 -> Day 28: practiced still sick but effects were worse than usual Oct 16st 2022 -> Day 29: still felt pretty bad Oct 17st 2022 -> Day 30: regular 120 BPM / reverse 110 BPM !!!!!!!! on the 30th day I did it! after a little break, I felt better, well rested and I finished the challenge! I'll continue to come here and increase videeo speed, after I finish reverse I'll do the same for reverse (PS. I cheated for the first 3 days, I practiced 3 times a day)
I play for about a year now, but I started doing a daily practice routine for minimum 2 hours a day about a month ago, thx to Bernth. I mainly focused on sweeping, so i can do this exercise at 80 bpm very clean and good sounding, at 90 bpm i feel like i cant mute the strings properly. Very excited about these challenge. PS: a tip for beginners, lower you string action, it helped me a lot.
May 22 Day 1: Made it to 80 (a little sloppy and still relatively unfamiliar with sweeping) Day 2: Kept it clean and stayed on 70 (Sweeping is cool but the pain is real) Day 3: Did this in the morning for once. Still at 70 Day 4: 70 bpm I'm going to have to dedicate more time to this. 5 minutes isn't enough Day 5: Made it to 80. My fingers have a tough time keeping up and synching with the sweep Day 6: Still at 80 but easier Day 7: Made it to 90 but panic still set in
Day 1 - January 22nd - 50BPM Day 2 - January 24th - 60BPM Day 3 - January 25th - 70BPM Day 4 - January 28th - 70BPM. (cleaner) Day 5 - January 29th - 70BPM (Improving) Day 6 - January 31th - 70BPM, finally figured out the muting (thanks Uncle Ben Eller), getting better Day 7 - February 1st - 70BPM, it's getting cleaner, need to continue working on it, also started some of the other sweep picking routines Update: I am currently doing some of the other sweep picking exercises to improve before doing this Day 8 - February 8th - 60BPM perfectly, really improved the technique while practicing other stuff
I know this has been up for 2 years, but thanks, Bernth! I started this probably 2 months ago. I wake up at 5am to practice every day and started incorporating this exercise. I hit 120 today! I was really focusing on economy of movement, staying relaxed, and visualizing the arps as a whole
Thank you for this exercise. I nearly gave up learning sweep picking until this video. Now I realize not all notes are picked. The slurred notes are what I have been missing. THANK YOU! I'm warming up the tubes in my Mesa Boogie as I write this comment.
Day 1 - 70bpm not clean Day 2 - 70bpm rough, pushed onto 80bpm, stuck there for now Day 3 - 80bpm a lot cleaner, 80bpm rough but doable, will try to push to 90 over next few days Day 4 - 80bpm still needs cleaning, so 90 is nigh impossible rn Day 5 - Same as day 4 Day 6 - 80bpm better, 90 feels more within my grasp now, getting there. 100 is the aim Day 7 - pretty much the same as 6 Day 8 - Can now play 90bpm pretty well, pushed as hard as i could onto 100, scrappy, but feels like it'll definitely help 90 feels easier by pushing Day 9 - Went on holiday, so no practice, 80 and 90 are rough, so will try to get back to where I was Day 10 - starting to get back to where I was, still not fully there yet Day 11 - I've lost a lot of motivation since holidays, been big gaps between practice, need to stay motivated, and get through each day as it comes, I'll improve so long as I stick to it, 80bpm really rough Day 12 - Can get 90 roughly once again, 70/80bpm where comfortable though currently Day 13 - same as day 12 Day 14 - While I'm back on 90 and struggling a bit, 100 very hard, 70 and 80 are feeling very clean, I actually feel like I can do decent sweep picking now Day 15 - Feeling a little rough after going back to school, so a little hard, but did my best, 80bpm max for today
All I can say is holy crap. I've been coming back to this and a lot of your other videos for over a year now, and I can finally say I'm done with this workout. I played this full speed cleanly first try on my gibson les paul. Thanks so much for the insane motivation bernth, this feeling is something else.
October 21: 60bpm (falls apart quickly at 70bpm) October 22: 60bpm (70bpm becoming cleaner though) October 23: 70 bpm :) Ocotober 25: 70bpm (feel like im struggling more than last time though) :( October 26: 70bpm
12/6/2022 Day 1: 60bpm (clean) Day 2: 70bpm clean, minimal mistakes in 80bpm Day 3: 80bpm, missing a few notes in 90bpm Day 4: 90/100bpm Day 5: Still 90/100bpm, but very close to 110bpm. Day 6: 100bpm clean. Day 7: Finally, it wasn't clean but hit 110bpm. Day 8: 110/120bpm clean. Day 9: 120bpm. Day 14: After a 5 day breakout, started again at 110bpm. Day 15: 110bpm. Day 16:
31.08.2022 Day 1 60 BPM 4:16 Day 2 70/80 4:46/5:14 day 3 80 BPM 5:14 day 4 80/90 BPM 5:14/5:38 day 5 80/90 BPM 5:14/5:38 day 6 80/90 BPM day 7 80/90 BPM day 8 80/90 BPM
Day 1 Monday 2.14.22: 70bpm ascending and descending variations. Can do this cleanly and relaxed, but 80 I can technically keep up with the time however it is not relaxed and sounds “sticky”. I’ll be going through all of the speeds here for a few minutes each as a warm up every day and to keep prioritizing good habits and then try to break my next speed after I’m warmed up. Wish me luck guys and thank you Bernth for putting this together :)
*Day 2 Tues 2.15.22: 80bpm ascending and descending variations.* I practiced a LOT last night and had to warm up and play around 70, increasing by 1 bpm every 5 minutes or so but I have it clean and relaxed at 80npm now :) Also, I came up with a 3rd variation for warming up with slower, comfortable bpms under personal maximum. 3rd variation is 16ths notes ascending, then sextuplets going both down and back up. Doing this at 60 and 70 really helped me be able to reach 80 doing the regular variations shown in the video.
*Days 4-6* A lot jumping around 80, 70, 75, 85, etc. Doing my 3rd variation and ascending in general was definitely the hardest for me to maintain a “gliding” feeling and not make it sound all sticky. By the end of the 6th day I was able to do 80bpm both ascending and descending cleanly and comfortably though!
I've been keeping it around 80-90 bpm since my hand has been cramping off and on. Stretching, massaging, all of that and it's helped my muscles to not tighten up but still have a healthy soreness. Also, I learned a little bit more about the proper way to hold my pick (not with the face of my index and middle fingers) and went over 60-70bpm to adjust to this technique so my old way of picking doesn't hold me back anymore in the future. It's annoying when you do find out you're doing something wrong like that, but in the big picture you'll gain more time than you'll lose by going back and correcting it instead of trudging on and thinking "Oh well, I'll just be one of those guys who's really good 'in spite of' this one sloppy technique habit", because for any bad technique you are aware of there are probably 5 more you're not aware of. *Tldr;* Anyway, I can much more comfortably do 90bpm ascending and descending, and using the better technique I started over with. I don't know what day that makes this but I'm going to keep writing these for myself to refer back to and track. We'll call it day 14.
I like this challenge a lot; speed bursts are like the best way to expose your brain & hands to faster tempos in bite-sized chunks. I think a great addition to this exercise would be to start the arpeggio shape from the high string so that the speed burst happens during the ascending part of the arpeggio, because my upstroke game is weaker than my downstroke game in general
Your timing couldn’t have been better as I’ve been getting into Marshall Harrison, Paul Wardingham, and Pers Nilsson lately -all monsters at economy picking and sweeping. As tempting as it is to start as fast as I can, I’m gonna start at 30 to make sure my technique is rock solid and - more importantly for me at this time - I’m relaxed.
Day 4 - Feb 27th - Got up to 70bpm 💪 Day 6 - Mar 1st - 70bpm, slight improvement in accuracy Day 7 - Mar 2nd - 70bpm still. Adjusted technique a bit and more accurate Day 8 - Mar 4th - 70bpm captain, still hanging out here but not giving up 😂 Day 9 - Mar 10th (Took some days to work on other things) - 70bpm stiil, but adjusted hand rotation technique to allow for more accurate and started inching finally into 80 bpm!
My everyday log: 7.07 - the patterns are tricky for me (not used to higher positions) but quickly got them down (I recommend Bernth's stretching exercise found in one video, basically 5-7-8-9 up and 6-7-8-10 down chromatic with moving one finger at a time, slow). After I figured out patterns (and the especially challenging mixing between them part) today's limit was 80bpm - i've done some sweeping exercises before so don't worry, get down the patterns and picking hand order and the rest should be a piece of cake. 8.07 - had to refresh the patterns and after a solid warm-up been able to play at 80bpm, still feels like I will benefit from practice just with the metronome set on ~70, might try later or tomorrow. 9.07 - after practicing slowly I'm more confident with the patterns, 70bpm is pretty comfortable now and I feel 80 is within reach but not there yet. 10.07 - spent some time practicing slowly, especially the stretch from 14th to 19th fret, and now playing 80bpm is comfortable. Maybe even 90 tomorrow? 11.07 - woah today 80bpm is literally easy and almost automatic. Not yet at 90 because I didn't practice this separately today, but I feel at least I got the patterns down finally to the intuitional point. 12.07 - almost 90bpm, maybe isolating this speed and putting some pause in between reps will help? Getting familiar with shapes really helps with fast, automatic descends. 13.07 - 80bpm but no more today. 14.07 - vaccine day, low energy and just gonna repeat the patterns for a couple of minutes. 15.07-17.07 - no practice. 18.07 - was basically playing at 90bpm, need a little more precision but I feel it already. 19.07 - 80bpm is already pretty damn smooth, but might need a bridge in-betwee like practicing 85bpm or something for a while. 20.07 - not there yet on 90bpm but close, I think I need to isolate and practice ascending. 21.07 - tried some chunking and increased by 5bpm from 60 to 90, I don't completely catch up with the video without pauses yet on 90bpm but much more comfortable. 22.07 - I was practicing chunking from ~70bpm to 100, cut the exercise into even smaller chunks and practiced just up, then just down, you get this manner. Then tried connecting, and when connecting was smooth enough - increased tempo by 5bpm. On 100 isolated reps were possible, so I tried with the video with satisfying results - 90bpm is now completely possible, 100 feels so damn close. What's more, I don't even think about individual notes yet, but the whole chord. Practicing chunks with this "pattern-thinking" in mind definitely helps, now it is much more natural to play everything evenly because I don't have to focus on even notes, what matters is just even whole chord. 23.07 - today I focused mostly on alternate picking, so no sweep. But I guess the progress I made will benefit sweeping. 24.07 - I took a break. 25.07 - 90bpm 26.07 - close to 100bpm
I can't go past 80 BPM at the moment, I think the problem is I really need to work on relaxing the fretting hand. Thank you Bernth for these great courses !
Can't wait to plug in and try this later today. I've literally been doing random excercises from your videos every day for 2 hours the past month and I've broken through a long plateau in my playing, I'm sure at the end of the month I'll be sweeping like a beast!
I did it on an acoustic guitar it was kind of difficult. But I still did it this was very helpful video thanks.❤❤❤ Every day I did it faster and faster.
Finallyyyy after 3-4 months of playing this I've been able to play at 120bpm(still little shaky) and 110 very clean! Time to hit 130bpm and above, so excited :)
2021-07-07 Taking it real slow at 30bpm. Added 8th note "helper" beats on the metronome to aid with consistency. Only hangup right now is the last 4 16th notes in each phrase. Hand feels like it's floating since there isn't a string to "catch" the pick. Thank you for this, sir!
26/10-21: 80 BPM - Getting used to the pattern and my fingers gets sore with the stretches from 14 to 19 on the low E-string - First time trying to sweep that high on the fretboard. 27/10-21: 90 BPM - Followed along from the beginning and actually thought that I was at 80 BPM, but was happy to see that it was 90 BPM, couldn't play 100 yet, but I believe :) 28/10-21: 90 BPM - Much cleaner than yesterday :D Also could follow along with 100 BPM today, but it wasn't that clean. Actually didn't expect to see results in such a short time. 29/10-21: 100 BPM - Much cleaner today, can't really imagine being able to play it faster than this though. 30/10-21: 100 BPM - Same as yesterday, but a bit cleaner :) 01/11-21: 110 BPM - I could actually follow along this tempo today!!! I just need it to be cleaner :) 02/11-21: 110 BPM - A tiny bit smoother today, but not as clean as it should be, I can tell I get fatigue when starting to play along from around 50 or 60 BPM.
July 26 60 bpm perfect 70 bpm Broke down right away July 27 Very close to having 80 bpm down on day 2 July 31st didn’t have time to play for a few days but have 80 bpm down today so still making progress completely broke down at 90 bpm lol couldn’t match it at all Aug 1st almost got 90 bpm down but was making mistakes at even the slower bpm since today I just seemed to be off Aug 2nd still stuck on 90 bpm not as good today for some reason Aug 3 still stuck at 90 but I only had time to to practice once ussually I practice it once at the begging of my practice as a warmup and then at the end to see how good I can really Aug 4 still stuck on 90 but better at 100 bpm going to start another exercise to help with my ascending and maybe smaller sweeps Aug 5 watched what bernth was doing and realized he was hammering on for one of the notes tried now my 90 bpm is a bit more clean still need to to work on it but I can even start to play at 110 bpm Aug 6 still stuck at 90 but it gets cleaner every day I can feel I’m getting closer Aug 7 90 bpm Aug 8 90 bpm Aug 9 100 bpm need to relax more Aug 11 100 bpm got it cleaner i think in a couple more days I’ll be at 110 Aug 15 100bpm Aug 16 110bpm just came back after about a year haven't done much sweep picking since day 1 july 2 70bpm started to break down day 2 90bpm day 3 90 bpm july 10th starting to get 100bpm going july 11th 100bpm tomorrow should be able to start getting down 110 went on vacation still practiced but not super great practice locking in again august 5th 100 bpm 6th 100 bpm 7th 100 bpm 8th 100 bpm think I would've gotten 110 but played late at night 9-15 110 bpm 16th can kinda get the major arpegio at 120 bpm
Just wanted to say thank you so much for posting these videos, ive spent 7 months watching and it has helped me progress so much faster than i could have on my own.

Can you please make a video about keeping string quiet and right hand technique? Anchor your hand? Don’t anchor? Palm vs pinky side of right hand? Anchor on bridge or just lay in strings? If I anchor in strings I get muted sound but it quiets the noise down. Any fret hand tips would be good too. I’ve flattened my left pointer finger but then it makes strings underneath sounds out
started 3 days ago, first day could barely do 50bpm and now I can (struggle) at 90 and do 80 cleanly! The mention that, if it hurts or you feel blocked then check your technique is correct
Day 1, 60-70BPM, I suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Day 2, 60BPM, I've decided not to lie to myself. Day 3, 60BPM, but feels better! Day 4, 70BPM, but needs to be smoother. Day 5, 70BPM, tried 80, loled, played 60-70 a couple more times. Day 6, 70BPM felt easy today, tried 80 for a while, looks doable... amazing Day 7-9 working on stabilizing 70BPM, so far so good.
**ROUND 2** Day 31: 120 bpm (my best so far) Day 32: 110 bpm (downwards motion is better at 100) Day 33: 120 bpm Day 34: 120 bpm Day 35: 120 bpm Day 36: 120 bpm Day 37: 120 bpm Day 38: 120 bpm Day 39: 120 bpm Day 40: 120 bpm (more fluent motion) Day 41: 120 bpm Day 42: 120 bpm Day 43: 120 bpm Day 44: 120 bpm (better motion) Day 45: 120 bpm (my best one so far) Day 46: 120 bpm Day 47: 120 bpm Day 48: 120 bpm Day 49: 120 bpm Day 50: 120 bpm Day 51: 120 bpm (Perfect one) Day 52: 120 bpm Day 53: 120 bpm Day 54: 120 bpm Day 55: 120 bpm Day 56: 120 bpm Day 57: 120 bpm (flows better when also rotating my forearm from the elbow like a clock) Day 58: 120 bpm (Gotta be super concentrated) Day 59: 120 bpm (Should feel the tension in the exterior side of the [right] forearm, close to the elbow) Day 60: 120 bpm (right hand with fingers closed) My God, I started at 80 and the fastest I can sweep currently is 140 bpm, unbelievable, I still have to polish my damping a little, but man, what a ride. I'm so proud of myself
I'm not a bad sweeper, but this one floored me fast. Managed to easily get to 90bpm, but that is where I started to struggle. Gonna be working on this daily now
27.2.2023 - forgot to do this progress note yesterday, don’t even know if i started yesterday or the day before, however now i am at 40 bpm 28.2.2023 - 60 bpm 5.3.2023 - 70 bpm 8.3.2023 - 80 bpm 13.4.2023 - 90 bpm
I actually already do a sweep picking exercise very similar to this but without the triplets. I can usually do it at 120 bpm or up to130 bpm but I start to falling apart at 140 bpm. I think the little burst of speed with the triplets will actually help a lot and I never though of doing that kind of thing before. I think the hardest part is keeping it clean with good muting technique since that is what starts to fall apart for me at really high tempo.
Day 1: 30 BPM Day 2: 50 BPM Day 3: 60 BPM Day 4: 60 BPM Day 5: 70 BPM Day 6: 70 BPM Day 7: 70 BPM Day 8: 70 BPM Day9: 80 BPM Day 10: 80 BPM Day 11: 80 BPM Day 12: 80 BPM Day 13: 80 BPM Day 14: 80 BPM Day 14: 90 BPM Day 15: 90 BPM Day 16: 90 BPM Day 17: 90 BPM Day 18: 90 BPM Day 19: 90 BPM Day 20: 90 BPM Day 21: 90 BPM
Starting 01/07/2022-70bpm Day 2: 80bpm For the major arpeggio I can sometimes do 90 cleanly. Day 3: 90bpm Day 4: 90bpm Day 5: Getting close to 100bpm Day 6: 90bpm Day 7: 90bpm still close to 100bpm. Damm I'm stuck :( Day 8: Still stuck at 90 Day 9: 100bpm Day 10: 100bpm. Sometimes 110 Day 11: Same again Day 12: Same again Day 13: Same again Day 14: 110bpm Day 15: Same again Day 16: Same again Day 17: Same again
Lets hope i can stick to this :) 20. August - 70bpm (I can manage 80bpm on the minor pattern since i am more familiar with it from previous experiences) 21. Aug - Pretty comfortable at 80pm but sometimes miss a few notes, struggling a bit at 90bpm 22. Aug - Comfortable at 80bpm, missing a few notes at 90bpm and struggling at 100bpm
Starting 8/29/22, ~70bpm. After a while, I got out of sync and couldn't keep up with the fretting hand. I noticed that when I was comfortable at lower tempos, my fingers moved more economically, but when I was scrambling to get to the notes on time at higher tempos, my fingers moved with much wider and less economical motions, ironically. But I kept trying to play or at least sweep pick along with the video to try to get used to thinking at higher tempos. Day 2: 70 bpm
You know? I've seen a lot of videos for practice but it's not as exciting and really exciting as your video,,,thanks your video is very easy to understand,,I promise I will learn until 120pm✨🥰
Day 1, 30-40 bpm, I need I got the pattern down, and I made sure every note is heard. Day 2 50-70 bpm, picking up the pace, still a little bit scuffed on the pattern, but getting there. Day 3 - getting comfortable with 60-70bpm
Day 3, 40 July 14th, Day 1, only 30bpm, but on the right path. Now I've got through the exercise I'm hoping to progress quite quickly in my first week. That 5th string stretch is a long way for me. Those of you starting at 90, well - jealous right now...
Man, you is amazing, i explored on those days great exercises for sweep picking, now i see that you upload a great exercise for sweeping, thanks a lot👌💙
One question for Bernth or the guys: if now i am practicing alternate picking and i wanted to switch to other stuff, like sweep picking, should i change my whole routine or should i keep a little of the other stuff to not lose my progress?

Hey Bernth,
Gibt es bei dir auch einen Kurs, wo es um Solo/Aufbau geht ?
Grüße
dude, thank you so much for all your video lessons. they are some of the best guitar tutorials on yt definitely.
90 bpm July 8th
Deine Videos sind Super. Danke!
Aber wie du immer sagst get out of the comfort Zone.
Yay, Today I made it to 120. I was so surprised when the music stopped. To make it to 120 BPM took me months, but helped me heal my ligaments and it inspired me to get back in to teaching. Started my channel today! Also designed my first exercise and logos and everything. Thanks for getting me excited about life Bernth!!! Du bisch echt mal richtig der Hammer, Alter!
😢😢😅
Keep going legend. Let's hit 160
Starting Jan 9 ~
Day 1 - 50/60 bpm
Day 2 - 60 bpm
Day 3 - 70/80 bpm (80 bpm wasn't clean but I am trying )
Day 7 - 60 bpm
Day 8 - 70 bpm
Heck yea man
where are ya now?
Finally, after two hard months , i managed to do 120 bpm clean. It was a lot of work, but it was all worth it and it opened a lot of doors for songs that i never thought i would be able to play. Time to set the video at 1.25 and keep grinding. I really recommend that once you get more comfortable you also try clint tustin 5 sweeping exercices and bernth 8 minute ultimate sweep picking workout. Thank you bernth!!
October 26th, 2022 : Day 1 - 60 bpm ( No experience sweep picking whatsoever )
October 27th 2022 : Day 2 - 70 bpm (Sloppy)
October 28th 2022 : Day 3 - 70 bpm (Sloppy)

October 30th 2022 : Day 5 - 70 bpm (Clean)
October 31st 2022 : Day 6 - 70 bpm
First adjusted how I hold my pick, and got used to it a bit with closed hand position.
Bernth, you do not get enough love. What you are doing is amazing, a good teacher is the most respectable person in the world.
1:45 30 BPM. 2:50 40 BPM. 3:38 50 BPM. 4:16 60 BPM. 4:48 70 BPM. 5:16 80 BPM. 5:40 90 BPM. 6:01 100 BPM. 6:20 110 BPM. 6:38 120 BPM
2021-07-10 100 BPM stable, 110 BPM manageable & 120 BPM sloppy
2021-07-11 100 BPM stable, 110 BPM better & 120 BPM better
well..I do exactly this (kind off) for 20 years now..and I am a still a shitty sweeper...sweep picking is my arch enemy..but I am great at making Pancakes
edit: around day 4 I realized that if I try the same pattern in reverse, I suck at quick down sweeps so I started doing it both in regular way and in reverse.
When I woke up at day 7 my string broke and I noticed that it broke 2 times in a week in the same spot so I got my guitar repaired. It took 2 weeks so unfortunately had 2 weeks break.
BEFORE BREAK:
Sep 4th 2022 -> Day 1: 70 BPM
Sep 5th 2022 -> Day 2: 80 BPM
Sep 6th 2022 -> Day 3: 90 BPM
Sep 7th 2022 -> Day 4: regular 90 BPM / reverse 70 BPM
Sep 8th 2022 -> Day 5: regular 90 BPM / reverse 80 BPM
Sep 9th 2022 -> Day 6: regular 100 BPM / reverse 80 BPM
Sep 10th 2022 -> Day 7: just broke my string and I don't have any new ones
AFTER BREAK:
Sep 24th 2022 -> Day 7: regular 90 BPM / reverse 80 BPM - a little regress over 2 weeks but hopefully I'll get back on track pretty soon
Sep 25th 2022 -> Day 8: regular 90 BPM / reverse 80 BPM
Sep 26th 2022 -> Day 9: regular 90 BPM / reverse 80 BPM
Sep 27th 2022 -> Day 10: regular 100 BPM / reverse 90 BPM
Sep 28th 2022 -> Day 11: regular 100 BPM / reverse 90 BPM
Sep 29th 2022 -> Day 12: regular 100 BPM / reverse 90 BPM
Sep 30th 2022 -> Day 13: regular 100 BPM / reverse 90 BPM (even clunkier than before)
Oct 1st 2022 -> Day 14: regular 100 BPM / reverse 90 BPM (I feel progress but still not clean enough)
Oct 2st 2022 -> Day 15: regular 90 BPM / reverse 100 BPM (???)
Oct 3st 2022 -> Day 16: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM (!!!)
Oct 4st 2022 -> Day 17: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM
Oct 5st 2022 -> Day 18: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM
Oct 6st 2022 -> Day 19: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM
Oct 7st 2022 -> Day 20: took a day off
Oct 8st 2022 -> Day 21: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM
Oct 9st 2022 -> Day 22: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM (I feel stuck)
Oct 10st 2022 -> Day 23: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM
Oct 11st 2022 -> Day 24: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM
Oct 12st 2022 -> Day 25: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM (higher speeds are getting cleaner but still not what I want)
Oct 13st 2022 -> Day 26: regular 110 BPM / reverse 100 BPM
Oct 14st 2022 -> Day 27: got sick, didn't have the power to practice
Oct 15st 2022 -> Day 28: practiced still sick but effects were worse than usual
Oct 16st 2022 -> Day 29: still felt pretty bad
Oct 17st 2022 -> Day 30: regular 120 BPM / reverse 110 BPM !!!!!!!! on the 30th day I did it! after a little break, I felt better, well rested and I finished the challenge! I'll continue to come here and increase videeo speed, after I finish reverse I'll do the same for reverse
(PS. I cheated for the first 3 days, I practiced 3 times a day)
I play for about a year now, but I started doing a daily practice routine for minimum 2 hours a day about a month ago, thx to Bernth. I mainly focused on sweeping, so i can do this exercise at 80 bpm very clean and good sounding, at 90 bpm i feel like i cant mute the strings properly. Very excited about these challenge. PS: a tip for beginners, lower you string action, it helped me a lot.
May 22
Day 1: Made it to 80 (a little sloppy and still relatively unfamiliar with sweeping)
Day 2: Kept it clean and stayed on 70 (Sweeping is cool but the pain is real)
Day 3: Did this in the morning for once. Still at 70
Day 4: 70 bpm I'm going to have to dedicate more time to this. 5 minutes isn't enough
Day 5: Made it to 80. My fingers have a tough time keeping up and synching with the sweep
Day 6: Still at 80 but easier
Day 7: Made it to 90 but panic still set in
Day 1 - January 22nd - 50BPM
Day 2 - January 24th - 60BPM
Day 3 - January 25th - 70BPM
Day 4 - January 28th - 70BPM. (cleaner)
Day 5 - January 29th - 70BPM (Improving)
Day 6 - January 31th - 70BPM, finally figured out the muting (thanks Uncle Ben Eller), getting better
Day 7 - February 1st - 70BPM, it's getting cleaner, need to continue working on it, also started some of the other sweep picking routines
Update: I am currently doing some of the other sweep picking exercises to improve before doing this
Day 8 - February 8th - 60BPM perfectly, really improved the technique while practicing other stuff
two months ago i've almost completed the "4min shred challenge", for the next month I'll switch all my daily routine with other challenges from this amazing channel

Great production value Bernth. Really appreciate the time you take to make these awesome. I know it’s hard work!
I know this has been up for 2 years, but thanks, Bernth! I started this probably 2 months ago. I wake up at 5am to practice every day and started incorporating this exercise. I hit 120 today! I was really focusing on economy of movement, staying relaxed, and visualizing the arps as a whole
March 10th 2022: 100 BPM. Gonna try to beat this score tomorrow and get up to 120 by the end of the week. Thanks for all your awesomeness Bernth!
Thank you for this exercise. I nearly gave up learning sweep picking until this video. Now I realize not all notes are picked. The slurred notes are what I have been missing. THANK YOU! I'm warming up the tubes in my Mesa Boogie as I write this comment.
Day 1 - 70bpm not clean
Day 2 - 70bpm rough, pushed onto 80bpm, stuck there for now
Day 3 - 80bpm a lot cleaner, 80bpm rough but doable, will try to push to 90 over next few days
Day 4 - 80bpm still needs cleaning, so 90 is nigh impossible rn
Day 5 - Same as day 4
Day 6 - 80bpm better, 90 feels more within my grasp now, getting there. 100 is the aim
Day 7 - pretty much the same as 6
Day 8 - Can now play 90bpm pretty well, pushed as hard as i could onto 100, scrappy, but feels like it'll definitely help 90 feels easier by pushing
Day 9 - Went on holiday, so no practice, 80 and 90 are rough, so will try to get back to where I was
Day 10 - starting to get back to where I was, still not fully there yet
Day 11 - I've lost a lot of motivation since holidays, been big gaps between practice, need to stay motivated, and get through each day as it comes, I'll improve so long as I stick to it, 80bpm really rough
Day 12 - Can get 90 roughly once again, 70/80bpm where comfortable though currently
Day 13 - same as day 12
Day 14 - While I'm back on 90 and struggling a bit, 100 very hard, 70 and 80 are feeling very clean, I actually feel like I can do decent sweep picking now
Day 15 - Feeling a little rough after going back to school, so a little hard, but did my best, 80bpm max for today
60BPM, July 12. Thank you for lessons Bernth! Your lessons have really been helping me out a lot with my guitar playing.
All I can say is holy crap. I've been coming back to this and a lot of your other videos for over a year now, and I can finally say I'm done with this workout. I played this full speed cleanly first try on my gibson les paul. Thanks so much for the insane motivation bernth, this feeling is something else.
Perfect breakdown of sweep just what I was looking for, love you man.
Man definitivamente tu eres el mejor maestro de guitarra de todo TH-cam

day 4 80/90 BPM 5:14/5:38

Day 1 Monday 2.14.22: 70bpm ascending and descending variations. Can do this cleanly and relaxed, but 80 I can technically keep up with the time however it is not relaxed and sounds “sticky”. I’ll be going through all of the speeds here for a few minutes each as a warm up every day and to keep prioritizing good habits and then try to break my next speed after I’m warmed up. Wish me luck guys and thank you Bernth for putting this together :)
*Day 2 Tues 2.15.22: 80bpm ascending and descending variations.*
I practiced a LOT last night and had to warm up and play around 70, increasing by 1 bpm every 5 minutes or so but I have it clean and relaxed at 80npm now :)
Also, I came up with a 3rd variation for warming up with slower, comfortable bpms under personal maximum.
3rd variation is 16ths notes ascending, then sextuplets going both down and back up. Doing this at 60 and 70 really helped me be able to reach 80 doing the regular variations shown in the video.
*Day 3 Wed 2.16.22: 80bpm ascending and descending*
*Days 4-6* A lot jumping around 80, 70, 75, 85, etc. Doing my 3rd variation and ascending in general was definitely the hardest for me to maintain a “gliding” feeling and not make it sound all sticky. By the end of the 6th day I was able to do 80bpm both ascending and descending cleanly and comfortably though!
*Day 7* 90bpm
Never heard of them daddy.
@@jacksprat7525 your loss if you don't search for them. I'm serious.
Ill check them out too
Day 4 - Feb 27th - Got up to 70bpm 💪
Day 6 - Mar 1st - 70bpm, slight improvement in accuracy
Day 7 - Mar 2nd - 70bpm still. Adjusted technique a bit and more accurate
Day 8 - Mar 4th - 70bpm captain, still hanging out here but not giving up 😂
Day 9 - Mar 10th (Took some days to work on other things) - 70bpm stiil, but adjusted hand rotation technique to allow for more accurate and started inching finally into 80 bpm!
My everyday log:
7.07 - the patterns are tricky for me (not used to higher positions) but quickly got them down (I recommend Bernth's stretching exercise found in one video, basically 5-7-8-9 up and 6-7-8-10 down chromatic with moving one finger at a time, slow).
25.07 - 90bpm
26.07 - close to 100bpm
@@dashking5059 24 but I'm totally not used to play above 15 at all
Appreciate you so much for this video man, I do this as a pre show warmup almost every day.
Bernth it should be you that needs congratulations for keeping pace full respect.
I can't go past 80 BPM at the moment, I think the problem is I really need to work on relaxing the fretting hand. Thank you Bernth for these great courses !
Great way to mark your progress, not only w/sweep picking, but it helps you improve several facets of your playing.
Ok , I'm ready to do this ... Let's go !!! I really want to be good at sweep picking & I know with your help I'll get there !! Thank you , Bernth !!!
Can't wait to plug in and try this later today. I've literally been doing random excercises from your videos every day for 2 hours the past month and I've broken through a long plateau in my playing, I'm sure at the end of the month I'll be sweeping like a beast!
Yes, you will!! Hope you have fun practicing later :)
I did it on an acoustic guitar it was kind of difficult. But I still did it this was very helpful video thanks.❤❤❤
Every day I did it faster and faster.
day 1: 60 bpm - july 10th (I've never practiced sweep picking)
90 bpm - july 14th
24.10.21
bis 100bpm war's gut möglich
man sieht sich morgen wieder und vielen dank für diese coole übung!!
These Patreon workouts are outstanding!! Thank you!!🙏🤘🤘
Never rly cared about sweep picking until now. got to 80 and almost got 90 bpm! rly good lesson
Finallyyyy after 3-4 months of playing this I've been able to play at 120bpm(still little shaky) and 110 very clean! Time to hit 130bpm and above, so excited :)
My man can do some nasty levels, he just didn’t show off! Good one! Great exercise!
day 1- 23/02/23: 70 bpm clean
day 2- 24/02/23: 70 bpm clean/80 sloppy
day 5- 27/02/23: 80bpm
I’m enjoying it. Thanks Bernth!
27/10-21: 90 BPM - Followed along from the beginning and actually thought that I was at 80 BPM, but was happy to see that it was 90 BPM, couldn't play 100 yet, but I believe :)
28/10-21: 90 BPM - Much cleaner than yesterday :D Also could follow along with 100 BPM today, but it wasn't that clean. Actually didn't expect to see results in such a short time.
29/10-21: 100 BPM - Much cleaner today, can't really imagine being able to play it faster than this though.
30/10-21: 100 BPM - Same as yesterday, but a bit cleaner :)
01/11-21: 110 BPM - I could actually follow along this tempo today!!! I just need it to be cleaner :)
02/11-21: 110 BPM - A tiny bit smoother today, but not as clean as it should be, I can tell I get fatigue when starting to play along from around 50 or 60 BPM.
2/6-23
30BPM, got familiar with the excersice and it was plenty enough :P
Day 2: 40/50bpm (50 was almost clean)
July 26 60 bpm perfect 70 bpm Broke down right away
July 27 Very close to having 80 bpm down on day 2
July 31st didn’t have time to play for a few days but have 80 bpm down today so still making progress completely broke down at 90 bpm lol couldn’t match it at all
Aug 1st almost got 90 bpm down but was making mistakes at even the slower bpm since today I just seemed to be off
Aug 2nd still stuck on 90 bpm not as good today for some reason
Aug 3 still stuck at 90 but I only had time to to practice once ussually I practice it once at the begging of my practice as a warmup and then at the end to see how good I can really
Aug 4 still stuck on 90 but better at 100 bpm going to start another exercise to help with my ascending and maybe smaller sweeps
Aug 5 watched what bernth was doing and realized he was hammering on for one of the notes tried now my 90 bpm is a bit more clean still need to to work on it but I can even start to play at 110 bpm
Aug 6 still stuck at 90 but it gets cleaner every day I can feel I’m getting closer
Aug 7 90 bpm
Aug 8 90 bpm
Aug 9 100 bpm need to relax more
Aug 11 100 bpm got it cleaner i think in a couple more days I’ll be at 110
Aug 15 100bpm
Aug 16 110bpm
just came back after about a year haven't done much sweep picking since
day 1 july 2 70bpm started to break down
day 2 90bpm
day 3 90 bpm
july 10th starting to get 100bpm going
july 11th 100bpm tomorrow should be able to start getting down 110
went on vacation still practiced but not super great practice locking in again august 5th 100 bpm
6th 100 bpm
7th 100 bpm
8th 100 bpm think I would've gotten 110 but played late at night
9-15 110 bpm
16th can kinda get the major arpegio at 120 bpm
Day One: Got me at 100 BPM lost clarity at 110 BPM and I've been sweeping for a long time. Excellent excercise!!! That triplet is what got me lmao
Just wanted to say thank you so much for posting these videos, ive spent 7 months watching and it has helped me progress so much faster than i could have on my own.
Such an easy to understand lesson, easiest sub of my life.

edit 1:
it's frustrating because I was already close to 90 but for some reason, I just became slower...
I've been waiting for something like this for years
Start: 9/12/23
day 1: 30-40 playable 50 bpm roughly playable
Got until the end today. 120 was still quite sloppy but I managed to to it. 🤘🏼
Taking a break for now because of pain in my picking arm elbow. Can't wait to comment my dates and tempos. This looks like a lot of fun
I’ve flattened my left pointer finger but then it makes strings underneath sounds out
Anything would be so much appreciated and love all your great info you give. Thanks for all your time and effort
Hey dude, thank you so much for these videos. I have learnt a lot from them. 90 BPM, 1/9/2021
started 3 days ago, first day could barely do 50bpm and now I can (struggle) at 90 and do 80 cleanly! The mention that, if it hurts or you feel blocked then check your technique is correct
I love this lesson, i want more video like this, tanks so very much bro
Day 1, 60-70BPM, I suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
Day 2, 60BPM, I've decided not to lie to myself.
Day 3, 60BPM, but feels better!
Day 4, 70BPM, but needs to be smoother.
Day 5, 70BPM, tried 80, loled, played 60-70 a couple more times.
Day 6, 70BPM felt easy today, tried 80 for a while, looks doable... amazing
Day 7-9 working on stabilizing 70BPM, so far so good.
i love you bro! you inspire me to get better and better!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH

My God, I started at 80 and the fastest I can sweep currently is 140 bpm, unbelievable, I still have to polish my damping a little, but man, what a ride. I'm so proud of myself
I'm not a bad sweeper, but this one floored me fast. Managed to easily get to 90bpm, but that is where I started to struggle. Gonna be working on this daily now
27.2.2023 - forgot to do this progress note yesterday, don’t even know if i started yesterday or the day before, however now i am at 40 bpm
28.2.2023 - 60 bpm

8.3.2023 - 80 bpm
13.4.2023 - 90 bpm
6.6.2023 - finally 90% perfect 100 bpm, going to be working on it the next couple of days but at least it sounds like something is happening at last
Thank you for the lesson.I started on July 9th. Now stuck around 100 and 110.
You make it look so effortless!

2+ weeks of playing four of your routines daily, finally got 120 bpm all right
October 13: 70 BPM
October 14: 70 BPM
October 16: 80 BPM
For whatever reason I've always been faster at descending patterns so I feel a bit more confident tackling this 🤘
Awesome, hope you have fun!!
Lets hope i can stick to this :)
20. August - 70bpm (I can manage 80bpm on the minor pattern since i am more familiar with it from previous experiences)
21. Aug - Pretty comfortable at 80pm but sometimes miss a few notes, struggling a bit at 90bpm
Love it, your exercises always challenge me! Thanks for doing the hard work for us!
Amazing BERNTH!
Jul,11 70 bpm. I took a step backward today. I was distracted. But I think I'll give it another go after work

You know? I've seen a lot of videos for practice but it's not as exciting and really exciting as your video,,,thanks your video is very easy to understand,,I promise I will learn until 120pm✨🥰
Love this! Thank you!
Day 1, 30-40 bpm, I need I got the pattern down, and I made sure every note is heard.
Day 2 50-70 bpm, picking up the pace, still a little bit scuffed on the pattern, but getting there.
Day 3 - getting comfortable with 60-70bpm
Day 3, 40
July 14th, Day 1, only 30bpm, but on the right path.
Thank YOU again my friend...🤘
Fantastic exercise, fun pattern, pleasing to my ears.. Day one starts Now!!
One question for Bernth or the guys: if now i am practicing alternate picking and i wanted to switch to other stuff, like sweep picking, should i change my whole routine or should i keep a little of the other stuff to not lose my progress?
I'd pick 4-5 blocks each day to get a diverse workout :) I'll post a video on practicing/routines later this week, hope this will help!
@@Bernthguitar Thanks, that would really help!
For now I am doing a routine of 5 exercises, 5 minutes each, twice a day; let's get to work!
