Old movies were bad in portraying them as heroes but modern movies are gone way far the opposite route and show them as cunning serial killers as oppose to being the terrible reckless robbers they were, yet the same treatment isn't given to more dangerous outlaws like Jesse James and Billy the kid, who still are adored as folk heroes despite their crimes and more murders than Bonnie and Clyde (probably has a lot to with the Rebel/Cowboy image of them.).
I mean there is evidence to suggest that shortly before he died Jesse James gave a large sum of money to a widow and her children who was about to lose her house to the bank.
Most of Jesse James fame comes from the fact he discriminated during train robberies, he would rob you if your hands weren't callused but would leave you alone if you had working man's calluses, then there was the fact that the man who murdered him did it after being invited into his house and shot him in the back while he was straightening a picture.

I played Bonnie in a production of this story once. She was a misunderstood woman. All she wanted was to be a star. But being born into poverty in a place like missouri, it seemed that the only way to do it was marrying Clyde and getting into crime. She may have committed some very wrong crimes.. but definitely deserved better than what she got.
Not only that but her father died when she was only four , she was repeatedly beaten and abused by her unfaithful husband (roy thornton) and fell into a depression when she found out she couldn’t conceive children and lost her job as waitress in a coffee shop due to the stock market crash.
I live in Joplin Missouri and as much as I love this show, so much of this is misinformation. If you ever get a chance to go to the old Bonnie and Clyde Hideout it is definitely worth visiting, but some of this stuff is so overdramatized it's ridiculous

Those officers they killed were in Grapevine, Tx. My family is from that area, My great grandfather once was driving over a bridge and noticed a car stopped underneath it. At first he thought they needed help, but once he looked over he saw a bunch of guns. He sped back home and stayed up all night with a shotgun, watching out the window in case they followed him home
