Yes I thought of that too. I actually thought that the "Crash" unit in "GTA: San Andreas" were just fiction. The "Crash" Unit in the game are of course fictional characters, but they are not just corrupt. In the game they are actual hardened criminal exploiting the young gang members they are supposed to help and rehabilitate. The game takes place in the early 1990s, so it matches the time where the real "Crash" were active. It is shocking to see that there really was such a unit.

A while ago I read an article on CRASH's Rafael Perez where the article mentioned how Rafael was caught when a hotel employee called complaining to the the cops about a rude and obnoxious customer looking like a gangster was making a scene in the hotel lobby. When the cops showed up they immediately recognized Rafael who insisted that he was undercover but when the files were examined he was not investigating or undercover that is when the missing drugs from the evidence room was called into question and that is how Rafael's career went downhill from there and how he was paid by gangs to drop off the police informants or snitches into their neighborhoods to be dealt with. In the movie Training Day Detective Alonzo is a portrayal of Rafael Perez and the CRASH unit

The "C.R.A.S.H". police unit is a part of the "GTA: San Andreas" game. I actually thought that the "Crash" unit in "GTA: San Andreas" were just fiction. The "Crash" Unit in the game are of course fictional characters, but these are not "just "corrupt. In the game they are actual hardened criminals exploiting the young gang members they are supposed to help and rehabilitate. The game takes place in the early 1990s, so it matches the time where the real "Crash" were active. It is shocking to see that there really was such a unit.

By then, the chief of police and DA were too committed to "cleaning up a corrupt department." So instead, they tried to put 4 honest ex-CRASH officers in prison. They failed and the ex-cops won a $20M lawsuit against the city.
