  • Episode 2: In the three episodes of "The Svartpilen Cleaning" I will wash the bike, put it on a bike stand for the first time, and clean the chain. In this episode, I will install spools and put the bike up on a rear stand.
    If you want to put spools on your Svartpilen for a more stable bike stand situation, these are the parts to get - most importantly the bolts.

    Vortex SP402S Silver 10mm Swingarm Spool ($15.16)
    www.amazon.com...
    Don’t use the bolts. Just use the Spools. I wanted silver but you can find a lot of different spools out there.
    Left side bolt - 10mm x 1.5mm x 65mm (~$2.16 per bolt)

    Right side bolt - 10mm x 1.5mm x 45mm (~$2.16 per bolt)

    Credit where credit is due. “Cirrusly” in this forum described the bolts and spools. I ordered the same. Then I went out and hunted for a good bike stand. Not a great one. Just a good one to keep it reasonable in terms of budget.

    Many thanks for the part list in the description! Just picked up a '23 Svart 401 and I bought everything on your list except my spools are black. Really appreciate you making it easy! Thanks! - Fred

    Do you think the bolts could be 60 and 40 in length instead of 65/45? I'm having trouble finding those specific ones around here.

      @ridingwithgravity401  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I suppose length would vary based on the spools you put on. I put on 10mm spools and the 65/45 worked for me. Obviously most important that everything fit well and stays in place. Worth testing the 40/60 to see if it's good ... or go up a size (50/70) and add a spacer or washers.

    For anyone reading through comments for suggestions, Ryan w/ F9 suggests silver spools too because of the likelihood of them getting scratched up if they're any other color.

    Yes, if you leave the muffler side spool on with the stock exhaust or the Akrapovic tech part it will hit the exhaust if you compress the shock enough. It says so in the shop manual and I have personally dinged both.

    Nice review! gonna get a bike stand like yours soon.
    I'd suggest taking off the screw on the left hand side off tho, pointy thingy might flip the bike or produce more damage when crash happens - better let the bike slide

    I thought I read somewhere that the right spool will hit the muffler if the rear suspension is compressed hard, during riding. Any problem there?

    • @ridingwithgravity401
      @ridingwithgravity401  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hasn’t been a problem for me but that right spool is easy to remove.
      With the stock exhaust, it looks like if it compressed enough I’d still be okay because of how far out the exhaust is. They might scrape a little but hard to tell.
      But if you put a different exhaust on with a larger diameter, I bet you would indeed hit that spool on high compression. Great call out, Jacques.

    Do these bolt sizes and parts fit the 2019 model?

    • @bearcat9156
      @bearcat9156 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I also bought my 2019 with the tail tidy already done, so I dont have the license plate/water guard attachment that you have on the left side. I feel like the exact sizes wont work for me because the spool wont be flush.

      @ridingwithgravity401  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @bearcat9156 Yeah, with the tail tidy, I don’t think you would need that longer bolt for the left, but I am away from my motorcycle for a bit so I can’t go look at it. The good thing is that bolts are super cheap. Will see if I can find anything else out.

    What about the front tire, do you have spools it to be able to lift it with the stand?

    • @ridingwithgravity401
      @ridingwithgravity401  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't fitted it for a front stand yet. I thought about a stand that would work for both the front and rear, or a center stand, but I decided to go with just a rear stand to start with. Eventually I'll need a front stand if I'm going to replace the tire.
      Anyone out there have a good front stand setup? I'll do my usual and do a video when/if I get one myself, but hard to know when that might be.

      @@ridingwithgravity401 I've got a 2 in 1 paddock stand from proworks, you get one rear and one for the front. You could check out that one - it comes with adapters for different connections. The spools that you bought, can they be fitted on the front as well? Or do you need something else for the front. Thanks!

      Thanks for sharing!
      I believe for the front either paddock or a front head lift stand. Front head lift stands have a pin that you insert on the frame just above the front tire. Should be a plastic cap that can be removed to accommodate the pin insert on the front head lift.
