Season 2 has to be arguably one of the best seasons in Robot Wars' history, it still had the great grungy atmosphere with a focus on Robotics without the forced drama of later series, the robots weren't the post powerful they ever were, but that was offset by the Gauntlet and Trials, and Robots had to be very inventive with the lower weight limit. People may prefer season 1 for it's more amateurish feel and enjoyable tone, or season 3 for it's focus solely on battles and some really powerful robots (Mainly Hypno-Disc), but I personally like Season 2 best
@@derpychicken8868 Season 4 was when the show was at the peak of it's popularity. My personal favourite was Season 5. After that it got stale with the same robots with little to no modification making the latter stages of the series.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome your commander in chief... Craig Charles" and from that moment Robot Wars was in good hand and cool entertainment extravaganza. He was the perfect host, so passionate, cheerful, encouraging and friendly. Jeremy Clarkson was a piece of crap compared to Craig! Series 2 is definitely in my Top 3 series. Wicked to see the almighty debut of Sir Killalot here, Dartford Grammar School team made a vast improvement on Detonator with Napalm, Panda Monium were the first to complete the new revamped Gauntlet and Piece de Resistance couldn't even knock a single brick over!
The team behind piece de resistance could never perform, they are so forgettable I basically forget they got a team name that belongs to an actually good team
@Suppertimepuss2 Although I feel as though it wasn't that way around. I cannot prove you wrong as I can't find TV guides from that long ago. So I'll agree to disagree.
it's been years since I've watch this, I know I've seen them all but it's been so long I've forgotten everything, so It's as if I'm watching it for the first time again, thank you for uploading these
American here, LOVED watching this at my grandparents house every saturday night on TNN/Spike TV Never really recall the American version with Mick Foley though
It's so good to see Craig Charles at last. He's so much better suited to this material than the smartassery of Jeremy Clarkson. Is Caliban the first full-body spinner...? Thank god they hadn't gotten the engineering right at this stage! Anyone else think the brick wall in the Gauntlet is a dumb idea? Even if a bot can knock it down, any bot that doesn't have a low ground clearance will basically get caught on the bricks, just like Napalm did. Hilarious to see Piece de Resistance utterly FAIL to shift the bricks, only for Killalot to come in, pick them up and THROW them over the brick wall! You can almost hear the robot grumbling "oh for god's sake, HERE you go ya pansies!"
I believe the first full-body spinner was Blendo back in 1996. There were very few regulations back then due to the hobby still being unknown and underground, and it garnered an infamous reputation for being taken out because it kept damaging the arena it was in and risked injuring the audience. The two guys who created him would later become the Mythbusters.
I once saw Robot Wars Live in Cardiff, and I remember seeing Craig Charles and thinking, OH MY, SUCH A GOOD DAY. Now, 12 years later, I know him better as Lister, and just wish I had known that before I saw him.
Wow I cant believe I found this. This show would come on every great once in awhile on PBS and I catch it every chance I could. I had to start with second series, its not Robot Wars for me without Sir Killalot :)
So I've only just started to watch, heard about it for a long time, and only just finished Series 1. I've seen a lot of hate, but I'll be honest, I liked Jeremy Clarkson. I assume this many people don't hate him for *no* reason, so could somebody say what all the hate is from? *EDIT* Specifically from RobotWars, please. Somebody's actions shouldn't let you judge their commentating skills.
+Naaron Well, I think it comes down to one of two things. One, that Craig is the better host in a lot of people's opinions (Including my own honestly) And seemed to gel more with the show. Two, Clarkson came off as being a lot harsher towards the robots that didn't do well, whereas Craig always seemed to have the 'Dust off yourself and get back in there.' attitude. It is all down to opinion of course, if you prefer Clarkson, I'm not going to tell you not to.
GrandMasterScottay Yeah, that's what I always assumed. I did see some moments about him being a dick, but I never thought he was tat bad. But I do agree that Craig is a lot nicer to the losers.
The reason why Craig Charles (Dave Lister from the Sci-Fi sitcom Red Dwarf) took over hosting Robot Wars was because Jeremy Clarkson (the host of the last series) was busy with other TV projects such as hosting his own namesake chat show.
@cole003f Yeah I remember that fight between Hypnodisc and Robogeddon. That was awesome. I think the one robot that you're talking about who's wheels were cut was a robot called Wheelosaurus. That bot competed in the heat after this one and was beaten by the original Chaos in the heat semi-final. I do recall his wheel being cut either in that battle or in the gauntlet.
Please don't adjust your TV sets as Craig Charles really is taking over as main host of Robot Wars from Jeremy Clarkson, who decided not to return to the show because he was busy with other TV projects such as his namesake chat show, which began it's run around the same time as when series 2 of Robot Wars hit our screens.
Craig Charles was a great host. Looking back at this though, it's amazing how stronger his Scouse accent is compared to later series and his work today. Strange that...
@thefateshavewarned robogeddon was, TORN TO SHREDS by hypnodisc & there was a team during series 2 where they used wooden wheels & went straight into the direction of matilda & got the chainsaw through the wheels
@Headbanger142 Killalot definitley got bigger in later series. Although the stats always said he weighed 280kg, his actual weight in later wars was 520kg. And in the battle where Mr Psycho got flipped over, all the people trying to right him gave an impression of just how big he was.
@MegaFluffyPlatypus I was 4 5 and 6 years old when this show was on I wish they still did Robot Wars now I loved it when i was a little kid Shame it not on ordinary telly anymore
This would be pretty easy for a human to do, kick over the bots, step over the fences, or walk down a sheet of metal. Ez as long as you have working legs.
I only started watching during series 4. It could possibly have been that order during this series. Simpsons at 6 is set in stone, there's no arguing that. But I remember it was either a double Simpsons, then Robot Wars or Simpsons, Fresh Prince and then Robot Wars. Again, it probably was that order during series 2 & 3. Also, I'm not being a bellend trying to argue that I'm definately right and I apologise if that's the way I'm coming across.
I'm glad that was cleared up after seven years lol... Wow, I don't remember this comment. It was definitely a reply to someone but TH-cam has changed the format of replies so much over the years that it now just appears as a random comment that makes no sense. Context is important.
Fookin CRAIIIG Charles - yea man! Legend!
Merseyside man.
I remember the joy of Sir Killalot being revealed.
This was good TV.

For me personally series 4 was the best wars and series 7 was the worst
I have to agree with you.
what
I love season one for clarkson, no problem with craig, but i love clarkson.
@@derpychicken8868 Season 4 was when the show was at the peak of it's popularity. My personal favourite was Season 5. After that it got stale with the same robots with little to no modification making the latter stages of the series.

"Powered by two wheelchair motors donated by Dorset County Council"
That one literally floored me that has to be the most British sentence ever.
i remember this fondly, i was there in the audience when this was being filmed. sentinel scared the living hell out of me.
26 years back!. From Joe. X
kirmy1 Yes! This Simpsons and Fresh Prince of Bel Air was the trilogy of my weekly evening television. :D
Wait? BBC 2 right? Had to sit through The Simpsons AND The Weakest Link before finally they showed Robot Wars?
Sounds about right, yes. Though I wouldn't refer to it in those terms, as for me, they were all good :)
@Suppertimepuss2 I don't remember it being in that order.
@Suppertimepuss2 Although I feel as though it wasn't that way around. I cannot prove you wrong as I can't find TV guides from that long ago. So I'll agree to disagree.
I've got love for both Jeremy Clarkson and Dara O'Briain, but Craig Charles IS Robot Wars!
The Mickey mouse of robot wars Craig Charles.
This takes me back to when I was a preteen and this was on late at night on my PBS Station on Saturday Nights.
It's being remade robot wars is coming back
But not Craig Charles :(
ah, this brings back such memories of my childhood! The things I would do to Philippa Forrester now though..!!
it's been years since I've watch this, I know I've seen them all but it's been so long I've forgotten everything, so It's as if I'm watching it for the first time again, thank you for uploading these
"He's mean. He's moody. He's majestic. (He's menacing.)" I was expecting, "He's metal"
American here, LOVED watching this at my grandparents house every saturday night on TNN/Spike TV
Never really recall the American version with Mick Foley though
I liked USA and Dutch robots fighting in Britain.
It's so good to see Craig Charles at last. He's so much better suited to this material than the smartassery of Jeremy Clarkson.

ArcaneAzmadi ever since he had that problemI don't really watch his stuff apart from the best show ever red dwarf
Smeghead
There, I had to say it
sir killalot's debut in this series combined with an awesome performance in the first run of gauntlet, AWESOME!
i love the shit robots in old robot wars. back before they spent £6000 on just the wheeels
I could listen to Lister talk all day. Love that guy.
Sir Killalot is my alltime favourite House Robot
I once saw Robot Wars Live in Cardiff, and I remember seeing Craig Charles and thinking, OH MY, SUCH A GOOD DAY. Now, 12 years later, I know him better as Lister, and just wish I had known that before I saw him.
Sir Kill-A-Lot is a work of freaking art. Of course they all are, but he looks like he took a long while to design.
Wow I cant believe I found this. This show would come on every great once in awhile on PBS and I catch it every chance I could. I had to start with second series, its not Robot Wars for me without Sir Killalot :)
Piece De Resistance is introduced as the lightest robot at 57 kg. Followed by Caliban weighing... 54kg. Nice research Jonathon.
So I've only just started to watch, heard about it for a long time, and only just finished Series 1. I've seen a lot of hate, but I'll be honest, I liked Jeremy Clarkson. I assume this many people don't hate him for *no* reason, so could somebody say what all the hate is from?

Because he acted like a jerk
to me he felt plain like he does not have an interest in the robots. while Craig Charles feels more passionate about it.
I love how Killalot gets beached on literally the first ever run out.
You gotta love the reaction on David Crosby's face when Killalot ambushed Napalm!
I remember coming home from school and watching this on BBC 2, followed by The Simpsons. Ah, those were the days.
Late 1990s, early 2000s.
This was the first series I saw; ahh such nostalgia
Easily the best series of Robot Wars
why is Lister hosting a robot-destruction show
Because he made it "Back to Earth"
Hal Emmerich Why is Lister in Coronation Street?
Or has he left? Long time since I seen it. :)
Shedhead He's still in it sadly.
I find the storylines of Coronation Street totally retarded and unrealistic, Red dwarf has more logic.
+Hal Emmerich Why is Lister in the back of a cab smoking crack?
The reason why Craig Charles (Dave Lister from the Sci-Fi sitcom Red Dwarf) took over hosting Robot Wars was because Jeremy Clarkson (the host of the last series) was busy with other TV projects such as hosting his own namesake chat show.
lol, the sir killalot driver had some fun, lifting piece de resitance over the wall they failed to break down.
Sir Killalot is the Darth Vader of the house robots and that's why SGT Bash and Sir Killalot are two of my alltime favourite house robots
2:20 "Lump of Titanium , robotic arm , beat that."
this brings me back
It was a mix of things, Craig Charles, better robots, more teams, improvement of the arena, and Sir Killalot
4:47 Holy shit! Dorchester is just a short drive from my hometown! I didn't expect a Robot Wars competitor to be so close to home!
Craig Charles was 60 this year!.
Fanastic! Series 2 was the best with the gauntlet and challenges before they ditched it all for just fights in 3rd series and onwards.
cant believe i was one when this aired :O time flies
@MegaFluffyPlatypus it's a childhood memory to many, your not the only one who misses it
@cole003f Yeah I remember that fight between Hypnodisc and Robogeddon. That was awesome.
I think the one robot that you're talking about who's wheels were cut was a robot called Wheelosaurus. That bot competed in the heat after this one and was beaten by the original Chaos in the heat semi-final. I do recall his wheel being cut either in that battle or in the gauntlet.
@cole003f Now I remember. The robot was called Broot. It was in heat J of series 2, the same heat as GBH.
Cool!
This guy is obviously passionate about it, but I liked Clarkson.
I love Craig Charles.
07:39 - "He's mashed it to pieces"
Ah, the days before Hypno-Disk.
I wish this was my childhood
The debut of Craig Charles in Robot Wars
1998.
@Footbalcrazychocomad i was watching robot wars extreme just today
at the time sir killalot kinda scared me
Piece de resistance didn't even get through the bricks!
What do you expect from a microwave? HAHA! XD
this program is the place for testing your robot ability.
Piece de Resistance is possibly the worst robot to have ever entered Robot Wars.
Anyone else watching this after binge-watching about 4 seasons of red dwarf?
Craig Charles was a great host. Looking back at this though, it's amazing how stronger his Scouse accent is compared to later series and his work today. Strange that...
Sir Killalot just steals all the houserobots the show!
@thefateshavewarned robogeddon was, TORN TO SHREDS by hypnodisc
& there was a team during series 2 where they used wooden wheels & went straight into the direction of matilda & got the chainsaw through the wheels
He does the English commentary for Takeshi's castle... it's awesome :D
Craig Charles. From Joe. X
I just love how all there robots look so crappy
@Headbanger142 Killalot definitley got bigger in later series. Although the stats always said he weighed 280kg, his actual weight in later wars was 520kg.
And in the battle where Mr Psycho got flipped over, all the people trying to right him gave an impression of just how big he was.
The best was the epic battle between Hypnodisc and Chaos 2
and he still is a working robot to this day!!!!1
HUZZAH Sir Killalot!
The brick wall is honestly so stupid!
Yes!!
I prefer this host over the last one, he seems less insulting to the losers
Best fridays ever.
Me too, sometimes it would also be the Simpsons on at 6pm, and then fresh prince at 6.20 :)
I don't remember, it was 10 years ago or more. Pretty sure it was this first but I could be wrong.
yes sir killalot his there
@ 10:15 it was Piece De Resistace and now it's a Piece of scrap
craig brought it life
Weapons
Victor= Blade,flail
Numbers
4:49 Caliban
This Episode Features The First Ever Appearance Of The New House Robot Of The Mighty Sir Killalot
I think it was Broot, which was I believe in King Buxton's heat.
IT'S LISTER! :O
this was where it got good
Robot war was smeging good when Craig Charles aka dave lister was host
roboteres stand by
@MegaFluffyPlatypus I was 4 5 and 6 years old when this show was on
I wish they still did Robot Wars now
I loved it when i was a little kid
Shame it not on ordinary telly anymore
PIECE DE RESISTANCE had only wiper motors.....
Does anyone know where the music where the House Robots are being described can be found?
YEEESSS Davy Cinzano Bianco Lister, The Best!
David Lister Is Back!!!!!!
the gauntlet seems too gruesome even for a human
This would be pretty easy for a human to do, kick over the bots, step over the fences, or walk down a sheet of metal. Ez as long as you have working legs.
I just saw three competitor robots in the arena. Who were they?
@thefateshavewarned the robot with the wooden wheels im talking about didnt even make it past the gauntlet it was a dad & his 2 sons
Which season had the house robot that was a skeleton that constantly caught fire?
The Smeginator
@QwertyBeetle Hypnodisc made Robot Wars awesome.
Napalm...ugh just use the controls if you are just going to steal it from the students everytime!
I only started watching during series 4. It could possibly have been that order during this series. Simpsons at 6 is set in stone, there's no arguing that. But I remember it was either a double Simpsons, then Robot Wars or Simpsons, Fresh Prince and then Robot Wars.

I thought it was Newsround, then Robot Wars, then Simpsons at 6.
Lister!!!
so the arm on napalm wasnt its weapon?
This may cause arguments, but I actually prefered it from Series 2 onwards, when it was all about the fighting, really.
Is that Karl Wood?
@IndianaJoel93 cheers. :)
Don't you mean "It's Mr. Lister, SIR!"
