Not QUITE word for word. Very close, but changes had to be made given the difference in sport and circumstance.
Cristo was a professional footie player before becoming an actor. And be is also such a smiley person IRL. And he said “Football is life!” in his audition. So he is perfect for the role of Dani Rojas!
This is the worst thing Rebecca has done so far. Up to this point she hadn't actually done anything (not successfully anyway). I mean, for me, the football part of the show is secondary, it's the backdrop. But character wise, Rebecca was coming around and then what really did it was Higgins "putting the team first" which then reminded her of everything he did to her while working for Rupert. I mean you can *see* how alone she feels at the end there. So she sent Jamie back to Manchester, where he grew up, to play for his abusive father's team. She is so hurt that she doesn't even see how harmful that is, especially being a victim of abuse herself.
I also love how at the beginning of the episode we see Ted putting his wedding ring in a box and then at the end they have the ritual where everybody puts something of emotional value in the bin as offerings. His ring was his.
Another detail that I love is in the Allen Iverson scene, if you focus on Jamie, he looks like a little kid who is about to cry when Ted starts yelling at him. Plus, the camera is in an angle in a way that Ted and Jamie are always on the same level.
This episode really breaks my heart for everyone involved, which really is a testament to the amazing writing, you can really see how much Rebecca is hurting, Ted is spiraling, Jamie has opened up for probably the first time only to be sent away the next day, Higgins is also struggling with his guilt over the part he played in Rebecca's abuse and the part he's playing now. Just brilliant.
The actor that plays Dani Rojas, Cristo Fernandez, was actually a professional footballer in Guadalajara prior to becoming an actor. A knee injury sidelined that, however, and he decided to become an actor.
So....ghosts ARE real?
While Rebecca's goal was to undermine Ted in this episode, Jamie really was the one who got the short end of the stick, to say the least. The setback dealt to Ted was extremely mild in comparison. Right when Jamie starts to open up and be vulnerable, allowing himself to lower his walls, be happy, and embrace the person he truly is beneath the mask he'd had to craft for himself, he's sent right back into the abusive environment he'd suffered for the better part of a decade without so much as a chance to say goodbye to anyone. From his perspective, what happened is exactly what happened with his dad - he was "soft," but instead of being rewarded for it he was punished just like he was as a child.
He got caught in the crossfire earlier, too, with the photos that Rebecca orchestrated. If Keeley hadn't had that contact at The Sun and Trent Crimm hadn't given in to Ted's charm, Rebecca would've put Jamie in exactly the position that she herself was: the person who was cheated on. Not that Keeley did cheat, and I'm sure she would've been able to convince Jamie of that, but the hurt would've been very real.
It's so profoundly unfair, and in my opinion, sending him back is the worst thing Rebecca has done.
But the rest of this episode is spectacular, quite possibly my overall favorite of the series.

I'm wanting to relive my first time seeing Ted Lasso, so have been watching various reaction series on TH-cam and stumbled across you!
I'm curious if you've gone back to rewatch at all yet and think differently about Nate's reactions to Jamie's bad moments here, heh.
Also - huge BK99 fan here, so I'll be checking out those playlists of yours next. Been watching since it premiered on FOX and got so many friends completely hooked on it. :)
By the end of the series I realised just how much amazing long term character development happens in this show. Everyone's actions felt different on the second watch through.
I'm just starting the final season of brooklyn so you've got a lot to get through.

Do you have a BK99 episode you recommend to people to try to get them to give the show a chance? Mine has long been The Overmining, and it seems to have worked every time!!
And back to Ted Lasso - it definitely made me look at Ned's "notes" roast and whatnot a lot more critically. There's some extreme vitriol in there that's a little scary; even by the end of the show I have a hard time being comfortable with Nate. :/
@riaglitta maybe the Jimmy jabs 1 or Thanksgiving from season 1 would be my recommendations.
And you'll see my relationship with nasty nate go through some twists and turns lol
