    Interesting, the last time I used popcorn I pressure cooked the submerged kernels after a 24 hour soak for 1.5 hours. This hydrated the kernels and made them much bigger. Then after letting the surfaces of the kernels dry, I jarred them and pced for another 2 hours to sterilize them. It worked fantastically and with a liquid culture the jars were fully colonized in a matter of days. I wonder what difference it makes to hydrate the kernels vs leaving them un-hydrated. I didn't use gypsum either btw.

    Nice vid, though there are a few errors made...
    Do not seal your bag prior to PCing, as the steam needs to have a pathway to inside the bag. Fold, sterilise, and then only should you seal.
    Pop corn does not need soaking 24h, and defo not mixing every 4h. I soak and cook other grains, but pop corn only needs washing and cooking prior to sterilising.

    Thanks, this is great. :)
    As a side note to the bag sealer. I just use the seal function on my cheap vacuum sealing device (without the vacuum function), and it works perfectly well, so that is an option to people who have one but not the other. :)

    I like that you bloomed the endospores first, i think thats important to minimize contam. Im wondering if the gypsum does indeed penetrate the corn or if a short cook then the soak before pc/ cooker would be better. Thanks for the content 😊

    how do you keep the crock pot water from going in the bag,,or it doesnt matter ?

    • @WhiteWolf1980

      Based on what I see, the inside grain gets hot, and it only has 1 place to escape. And that creates a vacuum seal. You would have to manipulate the bag under water to pull moisture in.
      But I can't personally confirm that as I wouldn't try it that way.

    I use popcorn, one question though... Is this just regular popcorn? I buy organic popcorn from the healthfood store and its really expensive. Usually poipcorn over here has salt and butter added. I wonder if the water would get rid of it

    • @easybreezymycology5626
      @easybreezymycology5626 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm its regular popping popcorn that you get at the store but it has nothing added... maybe the soak would work but if sugar is added and salt gets absorbed in the corn then it might be bad

    • @Lemonz1989
      @Lemonz1989 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just use regular non-organic popcorn kernels. They cost $2.40 (current exchange rate) for 400 grams in my local grocery store in Denmark. You don’t need organic, because any potential chemicals that are sprayed on foods is in such tiny amounts that it doesn’t affect the growth of the mycelium, and when the mushrooms finally grow, there will probably be an undetectable amount of chemicals in the mushrooms because it has been diluted so much.

    whoa… I have no idea how this guy is getting away with 2 HUGE MISTAKES:
    1. DO NOT SEAL the bag before going into the PC. That can cause the bag to explode. It must be working for him because his PC is not getting up to 15 psi.
    2. DO NOT leave bags floating in water like that! Its suppose to be sitting in only like 1 inch of water at most!
    I have no idea how hes doing this and getting successful results lol. Very confused

    • @mati04pl
      @mati04pl ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pre sealing is fine if you don't leave nearly any air in bag and if you don't leave any free space in presure cooker

      @N54.S6 ปีที่แล้ว

      This has been my method for nearly a year now, never had an issue. I would get 1-2 contams out of 43 bags but that's even rare and more then likely due to me not leaving my bags alone lol. This method is solid. Maybe you know, try it?

      100%... I put all my popcorn in the instant pot and pressure cook it for 20 minutes and let it depressurize... Then I put in strainer for 10 minutes. After that, I jar it up and put in instant pot for 1 hour 30 minutes. Never had issues and works great. I'll let the jars sit for at least 12 hours and then I knock em up with my LC
