Your definitely right, but each review someone different is doing it, reviewers all have different opinions. Ign actually allows their reviewers to formulate their own review and opinion on the game. There's no standard to go by.
there is dude if your comparing games tv shows of the year for example f you compared saints row to gta you cannot as it too dffrent but as a whole there not been many good games and saint row 4 was a good game so the reviewer has been bought out most of them have if actvison pays the reviewer to hush and give it 10 out of tens or there fired
Saint row was one of my Favorite games it because of story not Because of the graphics it’s because it was fun as hell I liked it more than gta which is One of my favorite games sr4 let me do more
When i played GTA, my mind was full of creativity of what to do for fun and do some glitches not about the story and i love using cheat but disable achievement become not my thing and not fun
The game allows you to play exactly however you want. If you don't want to use super powers, cool, if you want to, sweet, if you want to drive cars? nice, go for it! That's all the game is, you play how you want to.
Having just finished the game i can say that in terms of pure fun there is no other game that is as satisfying as Saints Row IV. It's not game of the year but it definitely deserves a much higher score.
9 from me, almost perfect, there's a reason I keep going back to it all the time, got all 360 achievements and platinum on ps4 and never get bored of it it's just too addictive, the only thing that lets it down is the glitches on last gen especially PS3. Played it way more than gta 5 and that's saying something for me and maybe the side quests can get a little repetitive which is why I do as many activities as possible before continuing the story but nobody forced me to do them and the soundtrack is pretty decent too.
"Why do you need guns when you have superpowers?" I'm gonna get guns anyway just to see what they can do and if it can add to the gameplay. Jesus Christ
Tbh, even with the powers I still upgrade my guns, it's actually needed. With powers needing a recharge and enemies being challenging if you have it set to max difficulty, game isn't as easy as he made it sound, plus stating that you need to run if you're in trouble just shows you aren't overpowered. If you were then why would you need to run? Of course it's obvious that late game you become stronger but that's like any other game with upgrades.
So because you said "most likely" I'm going to assume you dont even have confidence in your own opinion atleast I know for a fact that I prefer SR4 over SR2
"Why would I need guns when I can shoot fireballs out of my hands?" Because it's badass? And awesome? Also someone that makes a character that horrendous is the type of guy to give this game a 7.3 rating.
Triple OG yea but how can people know if sr4 is slightly better if they have never played sr3. People have to play sr3 in order to know if sr4 is better
Just finished SR2 and 3 and was highly disappointed when I started playing this one. For one, I'm not a big fan of sci-fi alien stuff to begin with and two, the run and jump thing takes away from the whole point of vehicles. Before they were essential to the game. Here, they're simply props which render upgrading them pointless. Saints Row 2 > Saints Row 3 > Saints Row 4
No . If you arent blind there is a stamina meter so you cant run all the time . And it is faster to go somewhere with a vehicle because you dont have to wait 2 hours to fill up the stamina bar .
KoudZ Or, for that matter, "They Live"...the references to that are all over the signs on this version of Steelport. Few games I've played in recent memory are this fun...and FUNNY. I particularly love the soundtrack selection (mine's set on the Mix...what the hell, I came of age in the 1990s).
Get it, if you are a fan of sci-fi (matrix, transformers, star wars) then this game has hundreds of references and jokes relating to them all. One of the funniest games I have ever played. For the best time possible play with a friend.
Justin Cipparrone True enough on the hundreds of references...but the most frequent ones are "Matrix", "They Live", and "Hackers". Still, there's at least a couple of levels I KNOW they got from the original Tron.
Firstly, this came out a month ago. Secondly, people criticize things that other people love because they may love and have an affinity for an aspect about it. Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, people criticize things because it creates a dialogue whereby the positive/negative elements of that thing being discussed become highlighted for scrutiny in an effort to enhance and perfect that specific thing. It's why game reviews/critiques exist, so developers can take notes for future projects.
Just finished this game. Loved it, epic ending laughed hard at how cool it was. This game rises above other games in my opinion because you can design the perfect character. My Saints character is my favourite character in all video games. Female voice number 1 is such a badass chick super cool. My char: female, med. blonde hair slightly bigger eyes blue. 15% muscle - 37% fat - 0% skinny. 40 sex appeal. leave the age at 0 I LIKE EM CURVEY!! knee high bad girl boots, saints thong and bra.
I'm glad I bought this game but I have to agree with some things said in this review. It is really fun but it lacks content. There is alot of stuff recycled from the 3rd game such as some of the customization and the map. What pissed me off was that all the customization items in the inauguration station weren't in the original game. Causing havoc in free roam is fun but it can get old pretty fast. They also made the game too easy.
All I know is the first saints row was my fav. Idk how people say "gangster" style games are old and used up, if that's the case how is it that gta v trailers have like 10+ million views on each trailer and easily the most anticipated game of last generation consoles... Respect to SR4 cuz they're on their own path and trying something different but when a gang leader becomes president and fights aliens I have to draw a line... All I know is gta is king of sandbox games no exception
saints row 4 is fun. gives us powers an dis different from typical sandbox games. driving in cars is goo din most sandbox games but i like saints row 4 for the fact its different and gives us option to drive or run around.
The problem I had with Saints Row IV is that the character is far too powerful, too early in the game, to the point where I legitimately thought they were going to pull a MetroidVania on me and take away all my stuff shortly after introducing me to it. At least they make up for this with fairly challenging boss fights, like the Wardens for example.
They do it by knowing man. If u hv played prototype then u will surely no cuz at first 3 missions u r literally the boss but after that the enemies get smarter and difficult af and that's how saints works
I never played SR before, and i think i might start on SR4. Any advice? i'm not gonna feel the recycle content, they should make a grade for those playing the genre for the first time.
If you want a game very similar to Gta buy saints row 2, if you want a unique, outrageous game that really stands out and doesn't take itself so seriously then buy this
Wow, 7.3. This franchise was plagued from the start. They bit off of GTA for the first two games and so the last two (Saints Row The Third and Saints Row IV) was their way of creating their own identity. In the process they captured a niche market, but that market is small, certainly a lot smaller than GTA. So they've become in certain respects more fun to play than GTA at times, but because of that, they compromised reality. That's why people have complained about the absurdity of SR games.
Let's see here: A game where I am basically Superman, being able to do almost anything and battle aliens in a ridiculously unrealistic fashion. OR A game where I'm basically just 3 unlikable scumbags robbing banks simply because they have nothing better to do. Oh yeah, the choice is hair-rippingly hard...
"Unlikable" well.. idk about that, each of them have personalities.. except Franklin.. so.. er.. Trevor and Michael have interesting.. ish.. personalities. Also.. if you're just saying "robbing a bank" idk about that, the driving in that game is some of the best, in my opinion, and it was honestly just a solid game. SR4 is a bit over the top I admit, but it's also a solid game.
I hated the fact that you could not even enjoy being the president for one day and tht the world was destroyed right away with no chance of even saving it..
Sknots I already own Ghost Recon bought it on sale like a year ago. It's ok, don't really expect much from the multiplayer though. I played it for a couple of days then forgot about it but I think its only $5 which is pretty good. I bought Saints Row by the way. I still have to play it.
casey tyler it's pretty fun. Its like Saints Row The Third but more stuff was added to it. The music is better too. Like you could walk around while listening to music. However you won't be using cars once you get your powers. I recommend the game if you liked the third installment. I was taking about Ghost Recon Future Soldier by the way!
Idc what you say THIS GAME IS FUN AS SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It also has a way better story than sr3. Yes stilport is reused, but with the super powers you hardly care to notice.
I agree, I am probably about halfway through the game and it has been a long time since I have had so much fun. Other games are challenging and full of depth and originality. Saint's Row 4 is just fucking hilarious and so so much fun to play. So I agree, I don't care what anyone says, THIS GAME IS FUN AS SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fidgie0 I agree with you completely. While I'm new to the series myself, from many of the reviews I've read, I think folks are looking for that GTA feel to the game like SR1 and 2. Unfortunately (for them), I think the developers said, "Screw that... That's not what we're trying to be", and they're proving it by making the game as over the top as they can. My hope is that they don't decide to turn the main character into an unthinking dolt. There's enough zaniness in the game for that to not be necessary, so I'm seriously keeping my fingers crossed.
The story never really bothered me and although this one may have a good story line (I went and got the game today) but adding Aliens and Powers into the game does feel a big far fetched but now i have actually played it and its all in a simulation type world, i can understand it more and its not as bad as i thought it would be :D
I don't agree with ign tbh a 7.3 it at least deserves an 8.5 sure it's not like the gritty storyline we had in saints row 1 and 2 but hey its a really fun and funny game full of quotes from different movies and video games he'll even past saints row games like in the dlc donnie returns and it's just uhh you have to play the dlc enter the dominatrix and how the saints saved christmas it's honestly really good dlc this game is a must have for superhero fans if you're more into gang wars this game isn't for you and you should stick to saints row 1 and 2 or gta
Another recommendation for folks wanting a little gang activity with some heavy story: the Yakuza series (with the possible exception of "Dead Souls").
They reviewed this game as if you already played the previous games. If you played the previous saints rows, you will be disappointed playing this one. That's why saints row 3 got an 8.5 and saints row 4 got a 7.3
am i one of the few people that likes this game its unique dont get me wrong the other games are awesome in there ways too but this one can be extremely fun at times
Seriously...if you REALLY want real life action, go down to Hunts Point in NYC or Charlestown in Boston. See how long it takes for you to realize that your view of real life is seriously distorted.
I got this game yesterday and it seems ok so far. I mainly got the game cause it was insanely cheap and I love games with character customization. Id still rather get GTA 5 because I have played it and enjoyed it lots. But a question. I got the National Treasure version and did the download like normal. And when I went to downloadable content and I select a dlc pack. It says it is installed but it still gives me the opportunity to purchase it. How do I find out it is installed? I want the anime pack but it says I can purchase it.
Charles Gallegos Soo, what you're basically saying is that you'd rather get a game that is in almost no way related to saints row 4..... Not sure if trying to say that you prefer different styles of games or just stupid
For those who don't know, Dex is dead. The Protagonist didn't kill him though. So, I guess there is room now for a whole new story even though Saints Row doesn't feel like Saints Row anymore.
I'm a long time fan of the Grand Theft Auto Series (Saints Row fans don't dislike this comment yet, hear me out). But the other day, I got a free game from Gamestop. I chose Saints Row 4 because it seemed interesting to me, also it was my first Saints Row game. And having beat it yesterday, I have to say it is one of the best games I've ever played. The soundtrack was pretty surprising (Hearing "What is love?" by Haddaway while flying in a spaceship was pretty sweet). Needless to say, the soundtrack is amazing. The story was cool too. Sure it was goofy at times, but it was still cool with the alien takeover theme. There once was a time when I was nothing but a GTA fanboy that looked down at the SR series, but after playing this, I'm now more open to playing the others. I also got the Gat out of Hell DLC and it's pretty cool so far.
Nicely said I'm also a big gta fan played them all, in regards to saints row I own 2 and 3 (2 being the better one imo) but I'm trying to decide whether or not to purchase sr4, I'm very tempted to buy it because I wanna play gat out of hell and those events take place after Sr 4 right?
i'm sorry, it is a pain to play, i must say after 2 hours of gameplay, which was far too much for me... ok, the story's hilarious, i agree, also the character(s) and texts are awesome just like the selection of soundtracks! but sound effects and mastering is just terrible, you constantly have to turn the volume switch.... and graphics, well, i've seen lot of games from 2008, which ones look much better! and btw the cars..... well, the feel like i'm driving a box! i'm sorry, for me this game is bad! sure it's got good humor, but... meh..... superpowers? seriously?! and the story is ok, but.... how it's done feels like a pain.... first few maps feel like a pain for me, where i had to "delete" 32 alien powered stations.... and this virtual reality shit.... meh.... i gave this game a 4.0, so it's a "bad" for me, still i don't think it's "awful", the soundtracks and the humor make it better, but still a pain to play!
I have US30 to spend on PSN... I don't know if I should buy SR4 (I played and enjoyed SR3, but this one feels like an add-on) or Dead Island Riptide (again, I've played and loved the previous one).
Well i got it on Steam sale for 5euro and have had a blast playing this game. When i felt overpowered i switched to hardcore difficulty. The only downside is that it features only 2 player coop
It's 12 bucks on Xbox live right now, so why not. Also Guys, what do you think, Raymand Legends or this? (both are on offer this week, and i have few GB in the Hard Drive).
When you first start out, nothing. Everything concerning powers has a cooldown period and sprinting takes up a lot of stamina. Alien guns need to recharge and you need to buy upgrades for them to not run out of charge so fast. As you progress, you get a ton more powerful. You don't start off as a god, you end as one.
Had this game for the PS3 and got it free for gold on Xbox 1. Of course IGN gave it a poor grade. I mean, 7 out of 10 isn't bad score but this game is more like an 8.5 out of 10.
Got this game on steam sale for 10 euros. I think this should have been the price from the beginning, the game really feels like a DLC for SR3. It's still fun, and I think 8 is the best score for it. 7.3 is too low. And why are people complaining that it's not '' SR 2 '' anymore? I'm very glad these series turned into comedy.
Having played this game on the recommendation of a reviewer who will sadly never get the same exposure as the unseen douche above (full disclosure: he is a colleague of mine on Innsmouth Free Press), I can say that this game is much, much better than he's saying. In many ways, it reminds me of the Yakuza series with superpowers added on, so full of activities as to verge on the ridiculous, but never, ever dull. One bit I love is the plastic surgeon shops, where you can change your appearance completely as long as you have the paltry 500 to do the job. This Blazin sections are racing activities that, for once, don't annoy me. The shoutouts to everything from "The Matrix" to "They Live" are awesome easter eggs that any true sci-fi fan would love. In conclusion, it deserves a hell of a lot better than 7.3.
depends how you look at the game. i like jumping around on rooftops and flying around, but then i can just drop into any point of the city and cause mayhem. it gives you 2 different perspectives, and i thought the missions were tailored very well to the new superpowers...like it didnt feel like i was playing saints row 3 missions with superpowers. the game has an overall different feel. played for over 40 hrs. since a few days ago my gf has racked up over 40 hrs too and is still addicted
Agreed. Could you believe IGN gave SR2 a 6.3 mainly due to graphics? Its also got better variations in location and even the citizen NPCs are hugely varied compared to SR3/4.
im not really specifically a fan of the new or old saints rows, but seriously they have always had a more comedic approach than other open world games and always had a more silly aspect to them. THQ is just emphasizing it a lot more now than they did before, but the core elements are still there from the old games
Yea, I've said that before too. Even in my first comment. People complained about how Saints Row The Third and this one went off course and how Saints Row 1 and 2 were the best. Saints Row 3 and 4 were different because that was the company's way of creating its own identity separate from under GTA's shadow. GTA remained GTA, and SR went the wacky route that focused more on players having fun in the gaming experience than a realistic gaming world.
it is man, every reviewer says it. It just gives you powers at the first hour of gameplay, making it easy to clear tons of alien camps with a single jump and land slam, repeat 100 times.
what people don't understand is, fans of saints row 3 and 4 enjoy comedy, wackiness and casual fun in their games! This game is THE GAME that will parody and joke all the way through! I MYSELF hate what saints row turned into as i wish they wouldn't have called it saints row at all. I wish this game was something different as the story got thrashed after SR2. still no word of dex and they killed gat in 3 in a awful way. Its literally a different game all together & that's the fanbase its pulling
This was the end of SR. To turn a dlc into a full game is sad. Meanwhile ppl will actually buy it... I enjoyed SR2 alot but after that, GTA has been dominating them. GTA V will be the nail in the coffin.
Points off for recycled content, yet CoD is praised for doing it?
Typical IGNorance.
agreed

Why is everybody so closed minded!? Point is this game is very fun and enjoyable even if your not a saints row fan.
The problem is that, spoilers down below.....
They made the aliens destroy earth where the Saints Row once stood. If that's gone then what's the point?
@@watchulookinat271 It was an end to the franchise. That's all.

I love being overpowered in games. It’s exhilarating.
ign being geniuses as always
IGN, playing through an entire level full of Metal Gear refernces and homages, and calling it a Splinter Cell parady
While missing the very large "They Live" references in all the signs in the virtual reality sim.
gives it a 7.3, yet years later calls it the greatest sandbox game ever
Jesus, is it just me or does IGN never like anything?
Yea they gave splinter cell blacklist a 9.2
belthazormn1 They basically married Metal gear solid 5 the phantom pain .. 10/10

Is it weird that IGN rated Ghost higher then most of the games including Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag?

SR4 is a bit over the top I admit, but it's also a solid game.
supereldinho why not both? And they rob banks because of various reasons you freaking nerd
this game is so f@cked up...THATS AWESOME!
and It was fun as hell
I hated the fact that you could not even enjoy being the president for one day and tht the world was destroyed right away with no chance of even saving it..
May buy this game, only 12$ on Xbox
i dont know if i should get this or Ghost recon ): do you REEEEALLY recommend saints row 4
Sknots I already own Ghost Recon bought it on sale like a year ago. It's ok, don't really expect much from the multiplayer though. I played it for a couple of days then forgot about it but I think its only $5 which is pretty good. I bought Saints Row by the way. I still have to play it.
how fun is just messing around in the open world in this game? and which ghost recon are you talking about btw?
Ghost recon future soldier (its on special sale right now at xboxlive)
casey tyler it's pretty fun.
It's nothing like GTA. It really isn't. Though if powers and guns isn't your kind of thing, I say it'd still be worth a buy after a price drop
Saints row is a joke now so much has changed since saints row2
Yet if it stayed the same people would hate it for being too much like GTA make up your mind
Honestly i love it. It was so similar to Grand Theft Auto and it took its own shape.
core sr 3 trash gta tbogt ripoff sr 4 prototype ripoff
Ali Bazz dont repeat same comment
you know im sayin?
saints row 2 is the best
SR4 is one of those games you dont have to take seriously to fully enjoy.
Its stupid.. and fun..
Its Stupid fun..
worth $11 bucks WITH all DLC?
steam sales ftw
+Jonte .S well i picked it up, thank!
Superty duperty sale right now on steam. Game of the Century edition 4.99
I got it last week for 2 from a Pawn Shop lol
i loved this game, i played the campaign 4 times..
I've never played Saints Row so the recycled content wouldn't be a problem to me. Overall, the game looks a lot better than you said it did.
They reviewed this game as if you already played the previous games. If you played the previous saints rows, you will be disappointed playing this one. That's why saints row 3 got an 8.5 and saints row 4 got a 7.3
Very little of this game is new, it all seems like add-ons to saints row 3
I think this game is a 9/10. This game's main missions had much greater variety and personality than Fallout 4 and the gameplay was very good.
am i one of the few people that likes this game its unique dont get me wrong the other games are awesome in there ways too but this one can be extremely fun at times
I think Saints row 4 should have been a spin off game I still like it but it should not be an official game in the series
+SlimeSquad Ryan yea like a video game within the game
EsherKittyKat i love this game. It's fun as hell
"One of the few people"
Hated SR3. Bad game. The OP progression of SR4 make this game FANTASTIC. Makes you feel like a superhero. If you want real life action, unplug ign.
Seriously...if you REALLY want real life action, go down to Hunts Point in NYC or Charlestown in Boston. See how long it takes for you to realize that your view of real life is seriously distorted.
If I wanted to play a game which involves powers I would play one of the infamous games in the franchise over this shitty game
qasimsfl14 I actually have played both inFamous games...loved them too. SR4 is just as enjoyable and takes itself less seriously than you do.
The only reason I would buy this game is for the fun of it not the campaign still doubting
i think that the powers are almost the same as in prototype?
No
This game sucks. R.I.P saints row
Saints row 2 was the best
best story but everything else was meh
Juane Hull for me 3 was the best
4 was the best
I got this game yesterday and it seems ok so far. I mainly got the game cause it was insanely cheap and I love games with character customization. Id still rather get GTA 5 because I have played it and enjoyed it lots. But a question. I got the National Treasure version and did the download like normal. And when I went to downloadable content and I select a dlc pack. It says it is installed but it still gives me the opportunity to purchase it. How do I find out it is installed? I want the anime pack but it says I can purchase it.
i was gonna skip 4 but last night i saw it at walmart for only 20 bucks will all the dlc content?! and i had the money so i thought: why not?
MarioSonicDKPokeFAN just bought it online in on Steam for £2.99 National Treasure Ed. (all DLC but no Gat Out of Hell) insane value for money!!!
Charles Gallegos Soo, what you're basically saying is that you'd rather get a game that is in almost no way related to saints row 4..... Not sure if trying to say that you prefer different styles of games or just stupid
i give it a 4/10
at most lol
Wtf 666k views and was posted 6 years ago 🤨🤔
For those who don't know, Dex is dead. The Protagonist didn't kill him though. So, I guess there is room now for a whole new story even though Saints Row doesn't feel like Saints Row anymore.
its a pity saints row went down this road i wish they had stayed on the same track as saints row 2 it was a great game
The games great, funny ,entertaining and over the top. its like GTA and Prototype had a baby
I personally preferred the classic gangster theme. Like the original
I hate IGN.
Saints row 4 is the best one so far. Simple. You can do so much and it’s fun. 7/10 at least
Yes, the events of Gat out of Hell take place after SR 4.
Saints row 2 was actually a really fun game.. I miss that
This game is a disgrace to Saints Row 2.
I will when Saints Row 2 is on the Xbox One.
Who’s excited for saints Row 2020? Been announced. Cool
i'm sorry, it is a pain to play, i must say after 2 hours of gameplay, which was far too much for me... ok, the story's hilarious, i agree, also the character(s) and texts are awesome just like the selection of soundtracks! but sound effects and mastering is just terrible, you constantly have to turn the volume switch.... and graphics, well, i've seen lot of games from 2008, which ones look much better! and btw the cars..... well, the feel like i'm driving a box! i'm sorry, for me this game is bad! sure it's got good humor, but... meh..... superpowers? seriously?! and the story is ok, but.... how it's done feels like a pain.... first few maps feel like a pain for me, where i had to "delete" 32 alien powered stations.... and this virtual reality shit.... meh.... i gave this game a 4.0, so it's a "bad" for me, still i don't think it's "awful", the soundtracks and the humor make it better, but still a pain to play!
What system did you play this on?
Azatarot75 what u mean, what system??.... PC :D
Tamás Kicska You are aware that this was also available for Xbox 360 and PS3 (the system I played it on), yes? Thus, my question.
Graphics don't make the game :P
i can agree with that, but gameplay also sucks... story is... well, just meh... also handling of vehicles suck as hell
This game is a piece of shit!
I have US30 to spend on PSN... I don't know if I should buy SR4 (I played and enjoyed SR3, but this one feels like an add-on) or Dead Island Riptide (again, I've played and loved the previous one).
The point is that this game is just meant to be fun since literally the saint's have nothing more to take over
I'll wait for the full package version of this to come out in a few months
Well i got it on Steam sale for 5euro and have had a blast playing this game. When i felt overpowered i switched to hardcore difficulty. The only downside is that it features only 2 player coop
It's 12 bucks on Xbox live right now, so why not. Also Guys, what do you think, Raymand Legends or this? (both are on offer this week, and i have few GB in the Hard Drive).
Saints row 1 and 2 are and always will be amazing, number 3 was amazing with co op, and saints row 4 is pretty fucking fun.
It is a game inspired on their idea for the DLC.
The DLC they worked on is coming out.
What is the song they start playing when the guy starts talking about presentation???
Darude - Sandstorm
Or buy the game and listen to the song
depends how you look at the game. i like jumping around on rooftops and flying around, but then i can just drop into any point of the city and cause mayhem. it gives you 2 different perspectives, and i thought the missions were tailored very well to the new superpowers...like it didnt feel like i was playing saints row 3 missions with superpowers. the game has an overall different feel. played for over 40 hrs. since a few days ago my gf has racked up over 40 hrs too and is still addicted
IGN always seems to forget that you can turn up the difficulty...
Can u play Campaign Co-Op with 2 contrllers or only online
+Petrit Salihu Only online
it is man, every reviewer says it.
The superpowers were added to make the game different grom gta, this has been confirmed.
But the story and gameplay to saints row 2 was just amazing
