I wanted to hear how the Z-Coils sounded, since they're a unique design. I skimmed through the video, so plz let me know if the timestamps are off by a bit. I have a Tribute series S-500 -- awesome value and a very good guitar. For those of you who might think some of these pickups sound too dark, possibly harsh, maybe sterile, whatever... the PTB system on some (all three pickup G&L guitars?) really helps with adjusting the tonality of the MFD pickups to go from a hotter punchy SC sound to thinning it out to give it a 50's style cut. Plus running an amp at flat EQ will favour certain models of guitar + pickup combinations more than others. It's nice to have a ballpark though :)
I may be 2+ years late, but this is fan-freaking-tastic! Trying to demo/play the guitars can be hard so hearing the different pickups AND both clean and dirty tones. How is this not way more common?! Thank you very much!
Thank you for the education on these pickup options. I have a Comanche and a Legacy. Both are USA Custom Shop models and I must say I enjoy them equally for there differences. It's nice to have the best of both worlds tonally...
Thanks for watching. We're asked all the time what the differences are between the different G&L pickups so we wanted to make sure the video went through the sound of each one thoroughly. Hopefully it helps.
Been looking for this. The MFD pickups in the S500 sound better dirty than the legacy pickups, but the cleans sound better on the legacy and I guess it comes down to the types of magnets used. This is preference of course.
The ASAT classic is one of the best sounding guitars I've ever played, but maybe it's the amp or the way this was recorded; none of these really sounded very inspiring. Sadly.
I find it odd that people on these comparison videos would set the eq so that all the knobs point straight up and then call that "flat." Because of the nature of most passive tone stacks, that usually gives you a scooped mid. I think it's more useful to demo each pick up with the eq set so that it brings out the best of each particular pickup while showing knob positions on the screen. Maybe just run through each pick up briefly with the same eq at the beginning just for a base line.

That tobacco burst ASAT starting at 18:43 is a thing of beauty!!
It's always weird when someone stares at you while playing.
It was hard to not think about it lol
Yeah that wasn’t chill lmao
grouping per style (for 5-position pickup switches I compare Bridge&Middle with Bridge&Neck of other models)

Wow. This is a pretty exhaustive demo.

Newark Musical Merchandise co. Thank you.
Great demo, thank you
You sir deserve an award. Excellent 😊 so hard to find in stock all in the same store
Thank you very much, G&L ASAT has never been in my thought because of ceramic magnetic field. Will try it at a shop nearby.
Thank you for putting this together! It is surprising to me that the MFD on the S-500 sounds ‘warmer’ than the MFD Jazz pickup.
Thanks for watching! Glad to hear you found it useful!
EXCELLENT! Just the vid I need. Thank you!!
Me 30 seconds in: "Well, that's enough eye contact for the month". That aside, this is the best comparison of these pickups I've seen.
I love the middle pickup on my legacy. Especially with the PTB system. Such a good happy medium that can be dialled in exactly how you want.
for blues i really like the legacy's neck and also the neck combined with middle and a slight boost of overdrive

This is preference of course.
But what about the humbucker with coil split? Seriously, though, that was a TON of ground to cover in one demo!
Great demo - but is it only me that is a bit freaked out by the eye contact ;-) ;-) ;-)
I wish G&L made a MFD Humbucker.
they have mfd humbuckers!

Like 90s Canadian rock much?
