- Should you play Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in 2024?
Assassin's Creed Valhalla gets a lot of hate, which to me just feels incredibly unfair. Thats why I wanted to create this Assassin's Creed Valhalla Review in 2024, so you can know whether it's actually worth your time.

Would you recommend Valhalla to a friend?
Hell yeah. I feel like its an upgrade for origins and odyssey. Combat gameplay way better than origins and odyssey for me. Graphics as well.
Love the positivity dude! Overall I think Origins is the better game but I prefer the Valhalla combat 😁
@@IronsideGeorge100% agreed, Origins was a masterpiece but Valhalla’s combat is tied with AC3’s on best combat for me
Yes, absolutely!
@@IronsideGeorge thats what i want to say lol im trying to play origins but i cant find myself to like it. 😩
I kept saying that once this game turns 5 years old, suddenly everyone will start appreciating it. Just like Origins and Odyssey.
Because a lot of the fan base are self entitled and have high expectations.
Its not that dude, it's the following opions of people, if this guy made a video saying how bad it was there will be different comments all saying yep it's trash, but because thus video is positive, the people that show up are those that like the game. Type in yt assassin's creed valhalla is trash or what ever and you'll see a whole different comment section.
@@drstrange4625True. Devs can't win at all. Half the people like the old Ac style and half like the new more RPG focused style. Valhalla is a love letter to both styles and magically it's still split in opinions on the game. Mirage came out and it's more of a nod to the older style and of course half the RPG fan style fans complained lol... Ubi can't win. These game opinion videos are mostly echo chambers of comments of people who come to drag the game. Odyssey was probably the most split of all the games from what I noticed.
Origins always have been good and it’s one of the best ac ever made
@@itz_mega True, but there were still a lot of crybabies when it originally came out
thats not a video game, thats a great adventure through old viking history.
Fighting for love and fighting for your family
Valhalla is a high quality game, but that depends on your attention span, playstyle and your motivation to finish...
My motivation was the fact I watching the Viking TV series at the time... so I really understood what was going on
I also started playing it at the height of The Last Kingdom - was so great haha
king!! @@IronsideGeorge
I disagree. Every single armor in the game have clipping issue, weapons shrinks dimensions, short bad written story with combat by pressing 1 button to kill everyone, easy assasinations, dumb ai. My opinion of course.
If by attention span you mean tolerance for long winded bloat, sure.
You are a man of culture 👌
I picked this game up two months ago. 150 hours later… I can’t put it down.
Haters gonna hate.
Love to hear it dude!
Same man started playing a week ago. All ive been doing is just go work and then return home n play this game for the rest of the day. Has also really helped me on trying to get sober
@@yourmum6444 That’s what’s up, my guy. Keep your eyes on the prize.
I just finished all the storylines(I think). Gonna jump back to Odyssey that I skipped, before getting Mirage.
Oh Odyssey won't disappoint you either but you have to know it came out BEFORE Valhalla when you play it and see the flaws. But it has also even better features so have fun!
@@yourmum6444keep stay sober bro I respect you taking the sober path, try and keep yourself busy cause boredom can get to you, take one day at a time good luck
This secret meeting of people who like ACV warms me. Valhalla was enjoyable entirely
Shhhh don’t tell the normies
ACV is kinda a weird phenomenon. So, I hadn't been gaming for a loooooong time (since the OG Halo) and bought a PS5 on a whim. ACV was one of the first games I bought. I didn't know anything about the AC franchise except that it's "those games where you run around assassinating mofos." I tapped out of it a bit quickly since it was so different than I was expecting (which was entirely my fault for not even so much as watching a trailer for it). Anyways, I saw all this negative reception and reviews of it and felt vindicated, thinking "see? No one likes this." Then I found it actually seems to have overwhelmingly positive reviews.
It's just strange that this game is so well liked among so many, yet those that like it feel like it's somehow niche when it's anything but. (Side note: Can't wait to go back and give this another shot since I finished Odyssey.
I'm 66 and started playing in Nov 23, I am now 300 hours in (doing Ragnarok) and can say (after playing all Creed games) that this is probably the finest in the series. The design, gameplay, script and challenges are so beautifully done.....and the game Orlog is a wonderful addition.
I really enjoyed Valhalla; it's one of my favorites so far. I believe it's the Assassin's Creed game I've spent the most time playing, along with AC 3 and AC 4 maybe
Love to hear it dude! Definitely the one I've played the most by far.
Same here
U played it the most because it's a wayy longer game not because it's a better game 💀
@@504Trey I didn't say it's better, I said it's one of my favourites. And I'm not taking about how long the game is Or how long it took me to finish the game. I'm 100% sure I've spent more hours playing ac Odyssey than ac 3 or ac 4. because how long it is. However, I would get to play ac 3 or ac 4 just to do nothing, get on the ship, or just to climb trees and kill guards. Same with Valhalla
@@504Treyit is a better game stupid
Having watched the entire Vikings series on Netflix this game is fkn amazing it's as close as I'll get to a fun viking gameplay
I watched the Vikings series and played this game simultaneously, what a great experience. Feel proud having a Viking last name.
I used to think Odyssey with DLCS is the longest game with massive exploration in Greece, but now I’m currently playing Valhalla with DLCS, the size of story and main quests are actually longest and I’m enjoying conquering this game.
Valhalla in my opinion is the most underrated game of 3 new AC games. Origins led the way, Odyssey was the pivotal, then Valhalla is the most satisfying at end after you conquer the game.
I also played Mirage, got platinum, great game.
Valhalla was the shit I’m tired of people crying about it . When people wanted the game to be long . Now it’s too long. No the story the game everything was perfect
More doesn't always equal better
I'm playing it now 30 hours in I really like it so far and I stayed away because ppl said it was a waste of time n I love vikings n the Era try to play odyssey 1st but it was to much n the enemies seem like they took forever to die, I love the naval combat tho , what things do u like about valhalla
It's fun, but they could have made it a spin-off series about the isu, so ac fans don't feel cheated, but when you use assassin's creed names to make sells, that should tell you something about false advertisement don't get me wrong I would be more then happy to play a rpg but I want to know that's what I am getting
The AC community is the hardest to please, they've always been so divided since unity which I personally LOVED (@me if you want idc) the parkour and story was amazing. I find something to love and miss in every new game they release but at this point it's fair to say they will never be able to please everyone. I personally also miss online Pvp assassination games, those were probably my favorite
I'm tired of listening to this narrative about how it's the fans fault for wanting the game to be this and that. Either you've played the game and let us know what you didn't like about it or what can improve, or take your comments to Reddit. I don't care about what you wrote and won't reread it again
I’ll admit it’s taken me 3 years but I’ve finally been hooked on this game
U won't beat it tho
Me too man!! It took me a while but I started playing all the time and I've finished almost everything in the game. It's an amazing game! 😁😁😎😎💯💯💯✨✨✨
I’m finished cyberpunked and it’s expansion pack in 2 months I’m sure I could finish this in 4 months 😅
@@bradleywilson5641 im 6 months in put 650 hrs into Starfield, still have not done many quests.... Starfield is the real mammoth of singleplayer games...... fuck the blind hate it gets ..... its 90 percent cause of its xbox exclusivity......
@@trissmerigold7722star field is a boring ass game unless you retired
I bought the Complete Edition last year and started the game in 2023 September. Now, after 300 hundreds hours playtime later I getting closer to the end. After completed the main story, every Mastery Challenges (all gold medals earned), the Wrath Of Druids and the Siege Of Paris DLC (both 100% completed) and all Playstation Trophys I can say that I have seen everything from the game.
I really enjoy and love the game. It has beautiful landscapes - I took more pictures than ever before in any games (however I've played Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Last Of Us games too) and good story with good and lovely characters.
BUT
For me, this game is work and great as a VIKING game, but not as an Assassin's Creed game. Why? I'll explain.
The original and classic AC-feeling it's just a little aspect of the game. This can be paralleled with what we see in the game: Although Eivor meet Basim and Hytham and help them to defeat the Order in England - but he never joins to the Hidden Ones and become an assassin. Yes, he use their weapons, their tactics and has connection with Isu - but he remains a viking warrior.
And it's all good that way. The game good as it is.
But it is not an assassin game (even though the title says so) - it's a viking game (a great one) with small AC part.
That's why for me this AC game is not among the best at all. But I love it and earn 8-8,5 / 10
You have literally echoed everything I think about it. Same score I'd give it too. If you're up for it, I'd get the Dawn of Ragnarok too for one final blast!
@@IronsideGeorge Thank you. Yes, we agree on almost everything. I'm just trying to show reasons and explain why you're right and why other're (who don't like it) right too. I feel this duality in myself: I love it and I'm disappointed at the same time.
Anyway I think it's a great game as I said - but not as Assassin's Creed game.
Valhalla is RPG and I did most of my kills in assasin style and felt like Viking assasin. The game has great stealth system and abilities and combats.
Thank god not all the 18 AC games are all the same... Odyssey, Origin and Valhalla has their place in the series. And every one of them is better than AC mirrage which tries to go back to "original" style with nostalgia but was lame and boring in comparison.
And I love AC 1 because it actually is nostalgic. Its nice to look back for sec but continue to move forward. "Things change and thats just how the way it is" - Tubac Shakur
Well said sir. Viking ways need to be understood and known
I love that it’s long. Seeing as I don’t crack out to games like I used to, it’s nice to have one title to give me so much entertainment.
Do you play this on Playstation?
It would of been so prefect with a NG+ and a bit more quality of life around the map and if not for the crazy store packs that cost so much but look good
The in game store frustrated me every time I visited - so many cool items I'll never own...
Yeah Ubisoft screwed us for NG+ on Valhalla
Im about 25-30 hours in. I love this game. It’s my first AC since the original and I’m loving the story, graphics and mechanics. I’ll probably get bored of it at some point but I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
Ive just finished the main game and the first 2 dlc's,im currently playing dawn of ragnarock.I love this game its been great to play only complaint i have and its a small one, theres so much to do that sometimes i lost track of what i was suppossed to be doing!.
Are you enjoying the Dawn of Ragnarok? I really liked it - an entire game like it would have been awesome
@@IronsideGeorge ive just started but so far so good.
W❤W! That’s Awesome! Happy New Year! 🤗❤️✨
I've been having a lot of fun with this game over the last week and I'm glad I ignored some of the content creators out there that make it sound terrible. Some of the extra locations and game modes [spoilers redacted] were a really nice touch to break up the monotony of just plowing through the main scenario quests.
Love to hear it Brian - I think it gets a bad rep because it's soooo far away from the old AC style. But it's an impressive game!
I have stopped watching content creators who just rushes through the games to give reviews on time and who never even touch the depth of the games. Big RPGs are especially supposed to be played and exblored with time and are not games u run through them and thats it.
There is only one content creator who gives reviews after completing 100% every game he review, he is the only one whos reviews I take seriously.
Letsssss gooooo🔥keep up the great work💯💪🥊
i spent 30 hours on it in a week so far i love it
🙌
Get a job hippie
It took me a few hours before I figured out I had Keyboard+X Box Controller settings on My PC, instead of just X Box controller, and didn't even realize I was missing out on "dodge". Since then I have begun to like the game much more just playing using the controller alone.
I am not a fan of the immersion breaking time jump thing to 2012 and would prefer this was just a Viking game without the over arching modern day archeologist/CME/save the world storyline.
This is my first and only AC game, so it may be all of them have that over arching simulation story theme. Personally, I don't like it at all. Just let me be a Viking and do Viking stuff.
Combat took a while for me to get the hang of as the animations are a little overly dramatic. Timing the shots is more important in this game than others where you just spam attack.
The game is beautiful though, and it is winning me over despite my gripes.
The dual weild combination in combat, stunning enemies and the brutal finishing moments were very enjoyable.
See I enjoyed the game but perhaps not the best one! But cracking video and glad it's getting love still in 2024
Appreciate the support as always my man!
To be honest.....Valhalla made me love gaming again.....As a guy in his early 30s, the interest in gaming naturally dissolves because of life in general, but after giving myself a break from everything and randomly deciding to play this game that I've purchased 4 years ago....I'm having a damn blast (after 70+ hours, too). So yes, you should play AC Valhalla! Just make sure to play with less expectations, enjoy the greatness and creativity that the developers have intentionally executed for the game!
I’ve never played any assassin’s creed games and I haven’t gamedsince 2016 when I had my kids but I really love the show Vikings and I love the vibe of this game. I just started it the other day and I’m really diggin it so far.
The thing is for me, once you let go and realise this isn't an AC game but a Viking game, It becomes a lot better. With Vikings and The Last Kingdom being some of my favourite shows I absolutely love this time period and loved how in depth they went with some of the mythology and history of the time.
Also considering I live in Kent, it was quite cool to go to the Ashdown forest and Tonbridge etc, places I've been countless times irl. I also enjoyed reading the encyclopaedia entries about the historical characters and places.
The game looks great, the exploration is great, and the main character story arcs are actually among the best in the series, along with some of the best characters. The biggest problem with the game is that it consists of the same story 6 or more times over just with different npcs.
It's great for the first couple of pledge areas, and then it gets really, really grindy, uninteresting, and boring.
By half way through, I was really regretting starting, knowing how much more of the save was ahead of me.
At the end I felt a real sense of resentment at spending so much time completing it. I don't resent the length, (I've relayed all of Odyssey multiple times) just that it was way too repetitive, which is a shame because as I stated before there is so much good in it.
I really like Valhalla when I played it a lot till finished most of the content, on PC. But the game did wear out my tolerance with the random crashes that I couldn't find any definitive fix for it. Even after I bought I way more powerful PC then the one that I played most of the game, I was still having crashes with just a few minutes of doing dailies.
Now I'm seriously thinking and buy it again for my PS4 (no pro), because I got to know that have shared saves, and despite that will run with less quality and frames, I hope that will at least NOT crash.
For the gameplay, I miss the godly powers that Odyssey had. Because in Valhalla I can't use any of the special cool stuff, outside the expansion map.
Also I found that the shared hireling system was kind of lame. Not only the ones avaliable would rarelly have stuff that I didn't, meaning that mine wouldn't probably be avaliable to all players, but some special equipments won't be available for them to use. What make no sense, since the NPC don't actually benefit of the effects of it. And also how I couldn't custom create or edit one, after my choice.
valhalla is fuckin dope. loved the damn game i wish it was harder but it was cool i like it way better than the classic assassin creed games
Love to hear the positivity mate
I started playing it for the first time about 3 weeks ago. I have about 175 hours into the game and I'm still having fun with it. I played the very first AC game and it was ok. I tried a few of the other ones and didn't really get into them. But I have a lot of fun with Valhalla.
Its my first ever ps5 game. I was so blown away with the visuals. I stiil never finished it but i need to.
It took me a while to finally get to it (I bought it when it released but ironically only started it a month or so ago just when it became "free" on GamePass and PS+. I was expecting to just suffer through it because of all the negatives I'd heard and because Norse mythology and culture isn't my favorite (especially compared to Greek and Egyptian from the previous two installments).
All that being said, I don't see what many have seen. I'm 58 hours in at the time of this writing (I'm doing a lot of the side content so still a long way to go, and I'm happy about that). This game is amazing! It might just end up being my favorite. It just works for me. Cheers!
I only got a series x last year and am only 50+ hrs into Valhalla and not half done.
I hope to finish it as I am enjoying it.
Enjoy it John!
The only bad parts are the cairn stacking challenges and the flying papers. Im 120+ hours in and still having fun. I’ve entirely completed england and norway and am now completing vinland. Working on the platinum isnt even that painful (i havent done the overdesign II challenge)
I like the flying papers - top tip though, if you hate chasing after them you can just use the blinding rush ability and they’ll stay where they are whilst you move forward to grab them 😉
@@IronsideGeorge damn. I wish I knew that lmao. There arent any more flying papers to my knowledge in Vinland, asgard or Jotunheim so I cant use that lmao. Oh well. Ty anyway.
Probably not - aaaa well, you did it the proper way! 😛
Bro can i play only dlc's without playing base game is there any major problem i can face in gameplay/story.And i don't have actually much time for this type of 100+ hour gameplay. Last time by playing AC-odyssey only game i beaten in 100 hours.
{sorry for my bad english}
Got this game a few days ago from a local second-hand gaming shop. Cost Me £10, so I'm pleased about that. Sadly there weren't too many Xbox X series games there. Valhalla was just there waiting for me. So far I'm at power 20. I don't want to rush through the game to quickly. Im now starting to upgrade my village.
Awesome! Well worth £10. Honestly though, there is sooooo much content you'll struggle to rush through it! Enjoy
When you complete it in Jan 2025 come back and let us know😂😂😂
I have played AC Valhalla for 100+ hours and yet to finnish the game but I really enjoy it and find it very relaxing. I don't play it every day and I don't rush to the end, actually trying to collect everything and to see everything in all the regions. It really is a beautiful game, sure the story is decent at best and overstay its welcome, but the whole scope of the game and the setting is really top tier AAA game that only a handful of games I've played over the years manage to create. Not the best game ever made but far better than many reviews gives it credit to be!
Pretty much my experience too. The only thing I hate is that annoying save file glitch that got me twice. Other than that, I really like it but wish I could skip the start cutscenes.
i thought it would be bad and refused to play it until this year i started want to try and now I'm hooked!
Complete Edition is $18 right now on Ubisoft PC Store.
I just got this game like two days ago, first game I’ve played of the franchise ITS SO DAMN GOOD BRO
I’m playing Valhalla from scratch again after a year doing the side stuff before grantebridge arc so I was 324 clearing out all the mysteries, zealots, legendary animals it was fun now I’m in the dlcs doing the same thing 537 power level If can’t get ng+ this is what I’m doing.
Haha enjoy my friend! Great name by the way, very relevant to the video 😁
@@IronsideGeorge yeah thanks the character on my pfp is a Viking in a anime called Vinland saga. 😉
My opinion it’s just shy of being among the best but the NG+ missing or even replaying missions robs it of potential
Honestly the only part of this game that disappointed me was the fact that synin was kindda not really used enough there was so much potential there.
100%. Though it doesn't stop me enjoying anything, but I do agree. Have you got the raven attack ability? Make him feel more useful 😛
I really love AC Valhalla, my favorite AC so far, but I am very disappointing with Ubisoft with that story ending. Maybe the last mission would be better with a big battle in the field like it's shown in the trailer. With a sacrifice cinematic before the battle.
As everyone says Valhalla is a great Viking game but not a AC game my only problem rn is I took a long break and now idk what to do to carry on the story
I have over 30 hours in the game right now and I enjoy it a lot! I may be bias due to the fact I absolutely love the Viking Age so the game brings that to life in a lot of ways by the old England and Norway landscape of it, as well as the stereotypical appearance of a lot of the characters and NPC’s. I really enjoy the fact they implemented the amount of religion they did in it because of how much religion was a focal point in that time with Norsemen and the Christian people during the time the Vikings made their way into England and so forth. One more thing I really liked was them utilizing Asgard and Helheim in the game, it wasn’t a focus point of the game but, something you could do if you wanted too. I feel it brings a exciting adventure to experience for a lot of the people who are interested in Norse mythology! I’ll say for the complaints of the game is obviously some mechanics of the game feels strange but I always just went with it because of my own bias opinions on how I feel about it. Another complaint I have is I feel as though some of the story can be really dragged out by some of the characters asking for random things just for you to do to get something from them in order to get on with the story but it’s understandable as some people in the world would actually want things in return for something more, so it’s realistic, but for me it does feel like it’s dragged out sometimes and can make you just get off for a while cause your like “man I’ll do all this later”. Lmao. I have other little complaints but I’m not gonna go over all of them. After all that being said I will say if your a AC fan, this game could be hit or miss, but for the people who really enjoy the Viking Age or shows like Viking or The last kingdom I feel you would enjoy this game based off of your personal preference! Anyways sorry for the long comment but much love to channel and everyone out there!
I just started playing it just a week ago. I've really enjoyed the game so far.
My favorite assassins creed game! Mostly because im huge fan of norse mythology. But you have to treat it A Viking game with ac physics to really enjoy it tho
I'm currently playing Valhalla for the first time. I spent a little over 10 hours and I just now finished the Cambridge section. I think the story drags a little too much but I'm enjoying the settlement building and mechanics so far. I'm not even close to be done with the game but I would give it a 6,5/10 so far. I'll keep pushing and might change this rating later on
I litteraly just got done playing this (80 plus hours played) And loved it. So much so i just got all the DLC aswell hahaha. So i got that to play now aswell :) The game is amazing.
Awesome dude - 80 hours is nothing, you still have loads to enjoy. Have fun!
@@IronsideGeorge Thank's i will do buddy im looking foward to it :)
I pre ordered this game on the Xbox series s and I played it for around 40 hours before uninstalling it. In that game time I spent very little caring for the story and the majority of it exploring the entire map.
Fast forward to 2024 and I found myself reinstalling it but onto my newer Series X and I’m having a blast. The upgraded performance from the series X definitely helps but it’s really been fun revisiting this game. The combat has to be my favourite part, that and the exploration.
I have played every assassin's creed game. This is my favorite assassins creed game and the best game in my opinion. Brotherhood is a close second
Love to hear it Figgz; especially from someone who has played them all.
I literally just started playing this game. So far i like it a lot and i haven't played any story mode/campaign games that's not call of duty other than Farcry 5 in a long time.
Love to hear it mate - it seems to be getting the respect it deserves now
@@IronsideGeorgebecause people are starting to get grateful for what they have.
I played this game a few months ago and I loved it, my favorite AC was Black Flag until I played Valhalla, I found most side missions interesting and fun (my favorite was the one where 2 guys are practicing raiding in their own house and everything goes wrong), the combat in this game is my favorite, a lot of variety in weapons and armor and really liked the gore feature; I didn't play Odyssey but did play Origins, and one thing that I didn't like of that game is that leveling up was very tedious and you had to do that just to move to another area and not get killed in one or two hits, or change/upgrade your gear very frequently because it became obsolete, in Valhalla you can go to an area 20 levels bellow the recommended and it's not that punishing, and you can use your default weapons and armor the entire game without upgrading everything everytime you level up. I don't get why people hate the newer games, but most of the comments I've seen are about the leveling feature that wasn't from AC 1 to 3, but it's been since Black Flag and people didn't really complain until Origins came out
Love to hear it mate - Origins is great, but as you say the level scaling let’s it down. I reckon you’d like Odyssey though if you’re looking for another experience!
If you think Valhalla is good and like the weapon and armour variety (which I think is minute tbh), you really need to play Odyssey. The weapon, armour, build variety and ways to play are infinitely superior to either Origins or Valhalla.
Orgins the greatest AC of all time & Valhalla is the worst
I agree. Valhalla is very good game and its rare game I actually engage to characters and story to the extent that I read the letters, description of characters, places etc.
Black flag never engaged me the same way, Im more interested in Vikings era and historical aspects of it and the story, characters and missions in this game.
Its easy to stay in track too because its more organised and easier to follow the main story line too than in Odyssey for example where u just get lost easilly and are all over the place never quite knowind where should u go next to stay somehow on track.
Just bought the game during the summer sale. Really excited. I love norse mythology. And have dabbled in assassin's creed before. So really excited for it to be finished downloading
I love this game so much!! It took me a few years to really get into this game but within the last few months, I've finished everything in the game. I want to start another playthrough but it took so long to finish the game once, I don't know if I want to do it again. Amazing game though. 😂😂😂😎😎😎💯💯💯💜💜💜✨✨✨
Haha love to hear it! Starting it again… maybe if you were just going to stick with the storyline perhaps but hunting everything down and all the side content? Might be a bit much! It needed a new game plus mode really. It is great overall though 😁
I just finished playing Valhalla the day before New Year's Eve and I am now playing the Vacation Storyline in AC Odyssey. I've put 599 hours and 31 minutes into Valhalla and would rate it around a 6 or 7 out of 10, probably around a 7 with an 8 being the highest I would go.
Some of my pros:
+The exploration is fun with lots to find and do and NPCs to help out and fight
+The puzzles you can solve like the Tombs of the Fallen
+The great side characters you can meet
+The combat is fun and brutal
+Great abilities to use like ax throwing
+Ciara's singing in Wrath of the Druids DLC is amazing
Some of my cons:
-The game is too bloated (ex. Opals and small chests and large dots that litter the different maps, cosmetic items to buy and collect like tattoos and hair and facial, amount of regions in England, the skill tree is too big, too many fishing and hunting deliveries, etc.)
-Most of the main story doesn't focus on the main story nor on developing Eivor's character but rather on gaining alliances. And the same goes for the 3 DLCs aside from maybe Siege of Paris.
-Game is too long with the story and other aspects such as the amount of Mastery Challenges and the River Raids
-Choices are pretty much useless aside from maybe a handful
-It's not really an Assassin's Creed game
-Easy climbing anywhere takes away a lot of the challenge
I'd say the game is about the same with Odyssey.
Compared to Odyssey, it has a more balanced leveling system, less gear, doesn't require as many resources for upgrading aside from maybe the foreign supplies in River Raids, has a more serious tone, has more assassin's creed elements, and the enemies don't take too long to kill.
However, the story is less focused on the actual main story and the main character's struggles and growth (same with the DLCs) and is a lot longer, Greece is prettier than England with more landmarks to find, the choices feel more pointless, and it's more bloated.
I agree with you 100% - although I liked the mastery challenges 😛 600 hours is a crazy amount of time too!
@@IronsideGeorge Yeah I should have just done the 100% completion, getting all the xbox achievements, and completing the dlcs along with the add-on content and the discovery tour, or at least most of all this. However, I chose to collect all the small chests (the ones marked on the maps at least), opals, the items from the River Raids shop, and all the items from Valkyrie shop from Dawn of Ragnarök and complete all the hunting and fishing deliveries and the core challenges listed on the menu screen. Not to mention the rewards for doing these were just more runes and cosmetic items and new armor and weapons that aren't as great as Excalibur and the blazing sword. I think the only thing I didn't end up doing in the game was purchasing all the items from the different shops.
As for the mastery challenges, while they do add variety having 27 of them was too much and some of them took a lot of tries to do such as shooting the weak spot of enemies combined with getting head shots and killing multiple enemies at once with one arrow shot ability.
So you’ve basically done everything, except the mastery challenges? Or you’ve now finished them too? Insane!
@@IronsideGeorge I got gold on all of the mastery challenges, before I started playing any of the DLCs I believe. Sure took me awhile.
Agree with all of this bud, and this is quite a comment - thanks for taking the time to share
If you like open world rpgs you'll like valhalla, I started playing in January and it's one of my favourite ac games.
I’m about 27 hours into this game and i love it, not really a ac game but gameplay is still there people cry too much
Valhalla is the first game in the AC series I've ever played. I bought it specifically because of the Viking story line. I'm a history nut and the authentic look & feel of the game has been awesome. I'm very happy with it & don't understand the hate for this edition.
When it first came out, I rushed the story and never gave it a chance..
Skip to this weekend I’ve completed AC Mirage and am now replaying Valhalla, and honestly I’m really enjoying it. I feel that playing it with a better understanding on that complex story of Eivor, Sigurd and Basim along with their ISU essences has made it more enjoyable.
Not to mention I enjoy the relationship of Eivor and Sigurd, Sigurd striving to be a strong leader with his brother/sister Eivor never leaving their side.
I've not played a lot of the AC games - only the original (on PC) and now Valhalla (on PS5). While I've just started the England part of the game, I'm really enjoying it thus far. I love the open world, all the crazy side quests (Aiding a militant nudist? Classic!), and the many great characters you meet. I will say that it does catch one a bit off-guard with the sudden influx of quests once you set up Ravensthorpe properly, and this is a little bit overwhelming at first. And after games like Skyrim and The Witcher 3, the combat is a little hard to get your head around. But once you do, it's a lot of fun.
As a history buff, too, I enjoyed the setting of the game - Dark Ages England is fascinating with the plethora of Roman and Druidic ruins, various cultures jockeying for position on the island, and the various factions that show up.
The exact video I'm looking for because
They just put this game on PlayStation plus I can't I can't wait to see what all the hoopla is about!
Haha perfect timing! Let me know what you think ✌️
great review also u sound like david attenborough 😁
Hahahaha - I’ll take that as a compliment 😂
@@IronsideGeorge yh a great voice for tv and voice overs
lol no he doesn't what the actual fuck
Man I'm started Valhalla 1.7 week ago and it was amazing, last time i played 1.2 ver was garbage shit. And it's my first run on 1.7 reach 100 hours+ not complete yet and i'm very enjoying it.
It’s such a fun game but the fps issues on console is insane. I’m using a series x and it’s horrendous but if I play origins it’s smooth as butter. That one thing ruins the entire experience
I actually bought it for 5 bucks on steam sale. Wanna play it but don't wanna grind if you get what I mean.
Is it possible to play only the story and major side quests without grinding the game?
Yeah I would say so cuz you don't have to get new gear constantly as it scales with you I'm pretty sure
As a skeptic of several past AC games, I really enjoyed this one. Yes the Assassin side of it could be seen as lacking, but I just played it for what it was. A viking game with bits of Assassins lore etc to thicken the story for future games. As a big fan of this time period, seeing dark age Britain represented in a video game is fantastic.
i love and this was the second assasin creed game i played and i was less enjoying the weapon category from origin and i was mind blowned by how the game was good i remenber when i got it on my birhthday with all the dlcs this far one my top 5 favorite game and i love more the hidden blade design in valhalla and the boss are good and dawn of ragnarok with the tales when i finished the game i was sad but i keep playing
and making builds (edited in i have all of the dlcs with the main story but not 100% completed it)
Hey George, how old are you, and how did you get into the topic of Vikings? It seems weird to ask that and I mean nothing bad about it either, just curious how you see the genre as a whole? Thank you.
Hey dude, I’m 32, and how did I get into Vikings and Norse mythology and stuff? Probably from playing games like Total War and Age of Empires; then I started watching Vikings, then The Last Kingdom, then I bought the Last Kingdom books (which are amazing) and then I’ve bought some other Norse books too like Neil Gaiman’s Norse mythology, and some other bits too 😊
I loveeeeee the genre. It’s epic, the perfect setting for any tv / film / story, the brutality of it all, all the Gods and their stories. Super interesting!
Appreciate the question!
(Actually planning on calling my soon to be born child Freya) 😁
@IronsideGeorge Hi George, The genre is so ripe and flourishing with so much more to learn. That is what I love about a subject like the Vikings, Anglo-Saxon culture, Medieval/Dark Ages studies, histories of war which would lead up to, proced & culminate to the "War to End All Wars" ...WWI. To be honest, even if I suspend disbelief to the point of nauseum, I cannot see the assassin's as the "good guys" and that the Templars are just this mean, sadistic, ruthless monster that destroyed and devoured everything in their paths. No one anywhere at anytime is perfect and unfortunately, there is and always will be bad intentions and people on all sides. I do know that it's just a video game with a variation on actual history but my fear is there are those that believe what they see and hear, without following up on actual subject matters at hand. Then again, look at what our world has become in the last decade or so whether we as individuals agree with it or not. Valhalla is a great game, but I wish I could experience the story from the Anglo-Saxon side so I can make up MY own mind who is real and who is deceiving me.
@@IronsideGeorge That will be a lovely name for your newborn baby!! A strong and beautiful name that is!!
I just got done playing it. Loved it. 170 hours. Still lots to do but I’ve done everything I wanted to do.
I love ac valhalla it is very different, but I would say, really, it is viking Ghost of tsushima
Some people say Ghost of Tsushima is the best Assassin’s Creed game, and it’s obviously not even made by Ubisoft 😛
@@IronsideGeorge people have said that!
I've been playing this game on and off on my PC and PS5 since launch with cross saves. Just looked the other day and I've got a combined 154 hrs of game time and I'm not even halfway through the story. Holy shit the value for money is unreal.
i played this on xbox and fell in love ready to get it for my playstation.
Finally, a positive review for this game. I'm watching Vinland Saga right now and so this game looks like a sure fire win for me.
Yes! Thorfinn! Amazing show - you should run double daggers 🗡️
For me, it was Ghost of Tsushima that made me feel Valhalla sucked in comparison.
I am playing it now. It is good BUT the world does feel underwhelming compared to other AC. It's a mid game in my opinion but worth playing.
is the dlc worth it? the druids and paris one
I picked it up with the expansions on sale and I've been enjoying it for what it is. I like vikings and the mystique of them and the AC franchise lore.
I think my issue with the game is rhat i have fun for a while whilst playing it but then it starts to drag.
I love open world games but this one was just too much to me. If some of the arcs were side quests and therefore optional, i think i would feel abbit different about it but they're not.
Don't get me wrong, i can play long games. I have sunk 100s of hours into BG3, Fallout, Skyrim, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, etc. But the story and world here doesn't grip me enough to continue to invest that level of time.
I have found that i am better off playing this whilst also playing another game or picking it up and putting it down again. Definitely can't sit and blast through it like with Cyberpunk and Elden Ring XD
Playing this now in 2024. The hate is completely unwarranted. Combat is great, there’s less filler than before. Weapons and gear are no longer a Diablo spam of constant drops making every loot an event. If they keep this moving forward with this I’m excited for the future.
It's 2024 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla still holds up as a masterpiece of storytelling and gameplay! 🛡 Has anyone else revisited the game recently? What aspects still stand out to you after all this time? Personally, I'm still amazed by the level of detail in the world-building. It's like stepping into a time machine every time I play! 🕰 Plus, those hidden blade animations never get old, do they? 😆
I like it because I’m a fan of shows like The Vikings & Last Kingdom.. It’s massive, has great gameplay and essential for any ARPG collection
I would love an honest answer here, the SOUND... HAS IT BEEN FIXED? environmental sounds I'm talking about...
Honestly, this the first I've ever heard of the sound being an issue!
My experience with AC Valhalla is little (about 50 hours split between ps5 and pc, will start a definitive playthrough soon) is nothing short of amazing. I love the world exploration that treats player with a bit more respect, I love the combat and weighty animations, I love the culture, the soundtrack MY GOD the soundtrack, easily one of the best in gaming. The sceneries, the ancient feeling, the conquest feeling, nothing comes close. Not my favorite game by any means but such a gem. Cant believe most people say cartoony Odyssey is better than Valhalla.
Origins remains my favorite AC though, possibly on par with Black Flag and soon, maybe even Valhalla.
I bought it in the winter Steam sales. I’m enjoying it so far as it has great graphics and exploration plus the combat is fun.
One gripe is I’m playing on hard mode and it doesn’t always feel balanced. The first boss was very frustrating but regular fights are much easier. Boss fights can feel more like a souls game but the regular fights not so much.
I think it will be a very good game as long as I don’t get burned out trying to complete it all at once. The setting and general gameplay is excellent, plus it runs well on my laptop and looks incredible.
As time goes on and you level out, the boss fights won’t feel so bad. If you’re playing on hard, the level scaling will actually feel more like a thing too, which I think is worth it. There’s a tonne of content so take your time with it ✌️
I started the game on hard and was immediately frustrated with that first boss fight. after a quick reddit search i learned that basically it was unbalanced and would one shot you if you did Too good. Past that its been a blast.

PAUSE ⏸️
it was a game that I was supposed to get bored with, stop playing and then start trolling ubisoft......it just never happened....I liked Odyssey more, but this is a solid game for the genré
Love to hear it 😍
Played ODYSSEY 3000h😀😀😀...
80+ hours in and its awesome haven't even touched the DLC yet either
ok, go setting and turn hardness to maximum, stealth to master assassin, guaranteed assassination on. best to feel as an assassin
bro I really like that thumbnail 😭☠️
Haha thanks dude ❤️
I liked it, but obviously not the best AC out there. I just enjoyed hooning around as an angry Viking with many many many many weapon choices
I didnt play Valhalla. I beat all of origins and odyssey plus all of their dlc cleared every objective on the maps. I just beat mirage. I watched the trailer for valhalla and I plan on getting it asap. I lived origins and odyssey and cannot wait to experience valhalla. And anyone tired of these type of assassins creed games the answer for you is mirage. Its way smaller. Focuses in Baghdad and has an amazing story line.
Let me know what you think! I reckon you’ll be just as pleased as you were Origins / Odyssey
Played ODYSSEY 3000h😀😀😀...yeah
Valhalla is my favourite game of the series and possibly my favourite game ever. I loved the storylines, most of the side objectives, the gameplay, everything. I really connected with Eivor too. I love him and the person he became. (Yes I know Eivor is canonically female, but idc I see Eivor as a guy.) So Valhalla is always worth it. I’ve played it since it’s release.
That’s awesome dude, how many hours have you got in it?
@@IronsideGeorge on one account I have like 700+ hours but in total I’m guessing around 1000+? I’m not certain. I did take a long break from any games a couple years ago lol
Edit: hearing that out loud doesn’t actually sound like a lot lol xD
I remember the last thing I did on the game was looking for certain runes for days to make the perfect max dps build. That took a lot outta me 😂
Thing about this game is if you just play it on normal or easy there is no fun playing... but, this game here on the hardest settings is very good, makes it hard an worth playing, in fact, on the hardest settings this has the best combat system of any game but you gotta go with a build... perfect example is this game got about a half dozen great perks if you just use one hand and that is the best build for this game, one hand ... if you can do it right you can just walk into a place and be surrounded by about 50 guys an just take em out one by one... Palatine armor an one hand Durandel sword
Thats exactly what I said! 👏
It's a whole package, and I still experience immense fun and replay value with Valhalla since release over three years ago.
Not to say it's perfect. There's multiple things I dislike about it and could have fared much better without, but they are not difficult to forgive and move on from.
Not really a better Viking game out there than this one.
Nail on the head mate - I doubt we'll ever see a Viking game like this ever again tbh
@IronsideGeorge It's a shame, as I was holding out for more Viking adventures in Russia and the Middle East, just to leave no stone unturned. Though I suppose in future, there's always a chance for a Ghost Of Tsushima style adventure based within the Viking Age. There's definitely a wealth of information and sagas that may prove fruitful as a full-fledged title.
Otherwise, Valhalla is the best we've got for a while to come.
@IronsideGeorge One other thing - This should be pretty obvious already, but I am nothing to worry about. I don't go looking for trouble, and nothing being said about me is accurate or trustworthy.
Frankly, the individual spreading these messages seems as unstable as a cat huffing on kerosene.
I know what this is in reference to - and I can only judge from what I’ve seen on my channel, which is obviously fine. 🤷♂️✌️ I’ve removed all of the comments discussing it, just to keep everything positive and forgo a further discussion. Everybody just needs to play nice…
@@IronsideGeorge I fully agree 👍
My only complain is the lack of realism in armour and weapons, I understand it’s a choice and it’s ok given that it’s a genre that always such creativity because it’s historical fiction, but as a history fan I appreciate when they put in that effort because history is cool and it makes the experience more relatable and thus more immersive. Seems they have taken that direction with AC shadows so I’m excited about that.
Online Multi player Viking raiding missions would have been the icing on the cake 🎂 great game just started it again with female character. Forgot how good it was.
Game is fine but side quests are laughably bad
I'm playing it right now and am enjoying it alot.
