    Thank you for the video - very well done. The problem on my Frigidaire range was a bit deeper than explained here. I checked the motor continuity (1.984 kOhm) and microswitch and they were good. However, after reconnecting the rod to the cam and running the clean function again, the motor would stop and click for several seconds before setting error code "F9". I lifted up the range cooktop to take a look. The latch-to-cam connecting rod was jammed, not allowing the motor to turn. Sitting in the insulation was a pile of charred seeds near the rod. Looks like mice made a home under the cooktop and stockpiled seeds there. Near the cooktop hinge was what looked like a cremated mouse and charred insulation. After cleaning up all the debris and wiping down the rod, the auto-latch and clean cycle worked great. This range is in a rental unit, so most likely the previous tenants didn't take care of the mouse problem before the mice found a final "home on the range".

      Thanks for watching, we're glad that you found it helpful! We try to make our videos as broad as possible to cover all different scenarios but issues with mice are not something we had thought about! Considering that the oven is a warm place it makes sense that the would make a "home on the range" haha

    Thanks this got me in the ballpark!
    My stove wasn't locked, but the door locked light was on (a bit dangerous and the opposite of most folks) and it turned out on my GE range that a bit of insulation was blocking the switch. A quick cleanup and it was resolved. I had to take two screws out for the front, the two screws by the vent, the panel off the back (four screws), then two screws for the vent housing then two screws for the vent duct before I could tilt the range up. I also took out two screws on the control assembly on either side (where all the knobs are), but not sure those were required.

    kid: be careful, I saw a tic toc where self-cleaning ovens burn out the safety controls and start house fires.
    me: silly you, I saw a tic toc hack where putting my blackened sheet pans in the oven they will clean up like new.
    4 hours later, the oven is flashing an F5 code - apparently the temp control is hosed.
    The oven door won't unlock. Looks on tic toc for fix. We reset breaker after 5 minutes, nothing. We unplug the oven overnight, nothing.
    Today, I found your TH-cam video and unlocked my oven with the self-clean reset hack. BTW, the baking sheets look brand new. Thanks!

    One additional source of the problem could be a faulty temperature sensor. In some models the oven control will lock the oven door if the sensor is faulty. This will generally display an error code. Still you can test the sensor to see if it is faulty: th-cam.com/video/jnt_mUwdL8o/w-d-xo.html

    Hello everyone,
    I have a 25 years old oven and it was working great. The other day I ran the self-cleaning and the self-cleaning cycle was interrupted. After that, I could not unlock the latch to open the door. No error code is available on this oven but something is holding the manual latch and won’t release it. The manual handle is on the outside of the oven door, but I was told not to force the latch open as I could cause more problems.
    The oven is a GE JB550GJ and the latch is a manual lock. You slide the latch handle from the left to the right to lock the oven door for self-clean. (I searched the Internet and most solutions for unlocking the latch are for automatic locking mechanism, not for manual latches.)
    I powered the oven down for minutes then powered it on. I gently sliding the latch to the left but it won’t release. I tried to run another self-cleaning cycle, but it won’t start the self-cleaning now. Do you know how to release the manual door latch? My specific questions are:
    (1) What is holding the manual latch and not letting go? Is there a way to unlock the latch? What are the specific steps required to reset this specific oven and to allow unlocking a manual latch?
    (2) I have the user manual but it only talks about how to use the oven. I need a service manual to help me understand how the latch got stuck. I searched the Internet but I could not find a service manual for this old model. Do you know where I can download a copy?
    (3) If I pull the oven out and access the back of the oven, is there an easy way to unlock the oven from the back? Do you think my old GE has a locking pawl inside the back panel which I can toggle to unlock the latch?
    (4) I searched the Internet and found no parts relating to the locking mechanism. Do I need new parts to repair this problem after I get the door to open so it won’t happen again?
    Thank you for your help. Phil

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. You've done all the right initial steps to try to troubleshoot this. It seems like this model might have a manual door latch, with an additional door latch motor. Without a parts diagram or a model breakdown its hard to know if there is a rear mounted door latchmotor or a front mounted door latch motor.
      It would be worth taking off the back panel to see if there is a real door lock motor. In that case you would be able to unlock the door from there. Then you could try to reset the cam as shown in this video.
      If there is no rear motor, then the mechanism is most likely at the front. This is not always possible to access or unlock it with the door closed.
      The other thing to consider is this doesn't seem to be a common model, and at 25 years old there might not be too many parts available for this. You might have to consider buying a new oven.
      Hope this helps!

      @@AmreSupply I found a manual on the Internet.
      www.geappliances.com/search.php?search_query=JB550GJ&tab=manuals
      Page 6 in the manual; Part #9 is the latch handle that got stuck to the right (lock position) and the oven door can not be opened.
      Thanks.
      Phil

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mac2pc2 Thanks for sharing. In most models with latch handle, you should be able to unlock it manually. It might be jammed or stuck on something. Alternatively there is a small change that there is still a door lock motor that will lock the latch handle in place during a self cleaning cycle. So its worth opening up the back panel to check.
      If there is no door lock motor that can be manually released, then the latch might just be stuck. If its jammed there might not be any way to unjam it from the outside. You might be able to lift up the cooktop to take a closer look as well. Sometimes there are screws that prevent you from doing that. Its worth a try.

    My oven turns off randomly, whether it is pre-heating or even when the oven is already at its set temperature, and the door lock light flashes once the oven turns off. It also sometimes does not allow me to turn on the oven and the door lock light just flashes. Could the door lock be the problem and needs to be replaced?

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching. The oven door lock motor won't cause the oven to turn off. It is possible that your oven has an automatically resetting limit switch. This limit switch protects the oven from overheating. Over time the switch can wear down and it might trip at lower at lower and lower temperatures. You can see how to access the limit switch here: th-cam.com/video/jGHX-rEnK80/w-d-xo.html
      Alternatively in some ovens the temperature sensor monitors the oven for overheating so a faulty temperature sensor could also cause the control board to lock the oven door. You can learn more here: app.asana.com/0/847286008045200/991608945622624
      If you're not sure if your oven has a limit switch then its best to enter your model number in this lookup tool: www.amresupply.com/lookup

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. Our oven series focuses on free standing ranges as they are the most straight forward. There can be some variation in wall ovens. There are some forums and videos floating around for specific models so it might be worth doing an additional search on how to access it for your oven.
      As for new videos, we are currently finishing up a 75 video series for refrigerator repairs and will be moving onto other appliances so it might be a while before we circle back to any updates for ovens and stoves.

      Thanks for watching. The Samsung double wall ovens is not something that I'm closely familiar with so I'm not able to give any specific advice for those models. After the oven cools down you could shutting off the power (turn off the breaker) for 5 minutes to let it reset. Then it might automatically unlock after the oven is powered on again. After a restart you could try holding down the unlock button.

      Thanks for watching. You can turn off the breaker or unplug the oven for 10 minutes to reset it. This might clear the code allowing you to use the oven afterwards.
      If that doesn't work it could be an issue with the door lock motor / switches, the oven sensor or the control board itself.

    Can you cut the locks off of an oven?

    • @AmreSupply
      @AmreSupply  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. It might be difficult to cut open an oven door that is locked due to the locking mechanism being positioned behind the top lip of the oven. It would be difficult to get a hacksaw or bolt cutters into that. This is why we recommend accessing the locking mechanism from the back if your model has that variation.

    • @AmreSupply
