    Apologies for the lack of creative musicianship and the pajamas.
    This video demonstrates the demo song, rhythm accompaniment, 32 preset voices and the synthesizer section.
    At times, the sound is ran thru a Zoom MS-CDR70 effect pedal.
    The PSR-16 is quite uncommon and relatively rare.
    The voices and drums sounds are generated using standard 2 operator FM synthesis.
    The drum sounds are not as refined as were other models of this era. They seem a little more lo-fi, especially the hat sound.
    As for the overall fidelity, I seems much more refined than most of the FM keyboards I've seen... more "Pro" sounding (as pro as 2op FM can get) than the PSS-270, PSS-170 and even the PSS-480 which included MIDI.
    The plastic on this is thick and strong, moreso than expected. The full size keybed is not velocity sensitive however it's a very solid bed. Very high quality.
    The synthesizer sliders feature 3 sustain settings, 5 settings for spectrum, brilliance, envelope and vibrato.
    The rhythm and accompaniment sections gives you 5 voice options for both bass and chord parts.
    00:00 - demonstration song
    01:00 - 32 preset voices & synthesizer demo
    13:00 - rhythm & accompaniment section

    Hi. It really improves the sound no end with EFX. I love to hear the drum sounds with added EFX.

    I had one as a kid and I had a notebook on how to set the sliders for my "own" sounds. Sucks the sliders were digital (fixed positions) rather than an analog slider. Some of the presets were definitely NFG and it seems most haven't aged well. Definitely a lot better with some external effects, but who had that in the 80s? Not the type of person buying this. If you were a producer/studio you were buying a dx7.

    does anyone know if the keyboard outputs aftertouch via MIDI?

    • @StarfieldBound
      @StarfieldBound  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The PSR-16 has no MIDI and the keybed does not articulate velocity or aftertouch.

    Is it actually only 2-op? Sounds like 4!

    • @squishmusic
      @squishmusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think engaging the 'detune' in the synth section either creates a pseudo-4op sound or indeeds engages 2 more OP. Thats what Ive read somewhere. This is my experience with the PSR36 mind you.

      @@squishmusic unfortunately the PSR-16 lacks a detune function
