    My family actually went to Scotland one year (thankfully, after I was old enough to drink), and we actually visited Oban. It is 100% a lovely little town on the coast there. And yeah, England and Scotland... you are just surrounded with history everywhere you go. I really want to take my family to Scotland, and just roam around with them. One of the things that I _loved_ about my trip was that I've actually got Scottish heritage. My family has roots in Clan McGregor, which was a clan that were made outlaws by Robert the Bruce. One of the most prominent members of the clan was Rob Roy, and we actually managed to find Rob Roy's grave. On the grave were the words "MacGregor Despite Them." That's only part of the saying, and I knew the full saying even at the time. So, I was able to say "MacGregor despite them shall flourish forever. We're still here." And, like, no joke, I'm tearing up even just remembering it, it was that powerful of a connection to my heritage.
    Oh, and old churches like that are _literally_ everywhere over there. Some still operating as churches, others abandoned. And yes, relics like the finger bone of Robert the Bruce are a huge thing in Europe. Bizarrely, they were the tourist attractions of the day. People would travel around to see the relics of saints and important people. So yeah, Robert the Bruce... massively important to Scottish history... also... _not_ a great guy as far as my clan is concerned. But, hey, on my mother's side, we're related to an offshoot of clan Bruce... so... I've had to come to a bit of a peace with myself. Heck, I've got English-Welsh conflict, English-Scottish conflict, and Scottish-Scottish conflict in my heritage XD

    • @kennyhutchison5013
      @kennyhutchison5013 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Michael good to know your appreciation of Scotland. Im a born and bred Scot who lives near traditional Clan MacGregor lands. As you are part Clan McGregor and so you are clear about your history, It wasnt Robert the Bruce but his descendent King James VI in 1603 who outlawed them after they carried out a massacre against a rival clan (Clan Colquhoun at Glen Fruin “without pitie or compassion"). It was probably politically expedient at the time as massacres against other clans was not unique. Enjoy your history and whisky.

    I'm curious to know, an American Soldier who was deployed mailed a flag with the Whiskey Tribe Gentry insignia on it along with with military unit insignia as well as a letter and certificate. Was it received? Some of the Soldiers involved haven't seen mention of it yet and are curious as to whether or not Rex and Daniel have received it. They spent a year sober due to military necessity and the Whiskey Tribe helped add to their stress relief while overseas.

    Scotland is my heart home. The first time I visited it was like I belonged there or had been there before. The second time twenty years later was like coming home. And funnily enough, my kids felt that too. It is the most beautiful country. Did you make it to Drumnarochit? It is on the edge of Loch Ness, where Urquart Castle is. Our ancestors were Grants & at one time lived there, though they weren’t particularly liked as they were installed there by the English, & then took off when the Jacobites attacked, leaving all there people to be killed 😳 Anyway…back on track- the Fiddlers Pub & Restaurant has supposedly one of the biggest whiskey collections. My son chose to have his 18th birthday there & we imbibed in quite a few tasting boards. Not to mention, just about everything on the menu involved whiskey. It’s where we all had Laphroig for the first time. Holy cow does that smack you in the mouth!! Ahhh good times. Great video. I will go watch the whole tour now. Brianna, you have to go, you will fall in love with Scotland! I plan to return & live in the Shetlands - home of the Northern most Scotch distillery , Saxa Vord!

    Glad you enjoyed our country! Always weird to see the outsiders perspective to Scotland - we always see the coaches and caravans during summer and its good that the tourists are back after covid.
    Haste ye back!
    (also yes, you are not supposed to touch bobbys nose. He will end up looking like a pug if tourists keep rubbing it)
