    I've always thought that Talisker is one of those distilleries where there's less of a difference between the 10yo and their 18yo than most. Which makes Talisker an odd choice for such an experiment. The super old stuff can be spectacular though - although even the 25yo is far too expensive for me :-) I'm glad that someone actually opened a bottle of Xpedition though!

    • @mentalrectangle

      Agreed. Talisker 10 is a very solid whiskey in its own right. Usually I don't like even the 12s from a lot of major Scotch distilleries but despite being a mere 10 years, it packs more flavor and subtlety than a lot of 16 year whiskeys out there.

    Slurping is very important in tea and coffee tasting, even Starbucks baristas are taught the slurp. I was a bit surprised when I started learning about whiskey tasting and nobody was slurping, but it makes sense. Slurping gets more air into your mouth and forces you to breath in through your nose as you're tasting, then the continued slurp aerates it and lets it cool off, temperature actually has a huge impact on your sense of taste. With whiskey there's no need to cool it, so the extra slurp doesn't do as much.

  • @davideasterling2729
    @davideasterling2729 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    The moment Brianna said "Air sticky", I immediately had a flashback to my last deployment in the US Navy. We went to 8 or 9 different countries in Southeast Asia that summer, but "Air sticky" is a spot on description for Thailand in July. I remember it being 95°F or more every day and just when you thought the humidity couldn't be any worse (we were required to wear long pants and collared shirts, by the way), out of nowhere it would start raining for 5-10 minutes and quit. The steam coming off the pavement and metal roofs made it almost difficult to breathe, like if you took too big a sip of Stagg Jr.

    Brianna was definitely hitting on Rex during that comparison segment. Direct eye contact "Wet bark" "Haaard" "The full log" "Hot.. wood" "Yeah, wood but less wet, damp, damp wooood."

    Modern Rogue is just shooting all of them and it's hilarious given his reaction of "these whiskeys are angry", my synopsis of him not his quote himself.

      Virginia either (unless you order it from one of their stores, that is less than 50mi away, Virginia ABC will deliver). Makes getting more regional stuff difficult.
