I predict that it is going to have a burst phase every 2 minutes where it uses empowered abilities and gains access to more ogcds. It will also have a gauge that builds through gcds that gives access to an additional ogcd with both an aoe and single target version.

Except that any kind of mob cc has been completely worthless so far (who uses sleep or bind?) with how this game plays, so I really doubt they'd go that route. And since shell/protect/stoneskin type stuff was already in the game once and then removed, along with the continuous removal of any and all DoTs, I don't see Green mage being viable without it just being Conjurer.

I would happily have a DoT mage back, with even more of a focus on keeping certain debuffs continuously running to fill a gauge, similar to how Bard used to be. that combination back on Summoner with Bio, Miasma and Bane and fester was a fun part of the job. While I dont think they have a place in the new summoner style, i would be happy to see them made a core part of a job.
Maybe a basic gauge gets filled by dealing damage with a dot, that unlocks a powerful, shorter duration dot that increases damage taken by other abilities during that time, to work it around the buff window. Could have something similar to Ley lines where they extend roots into the earth and it buffs Dot potency or adds in additional effects while stood in it.

My logic for Green Mage is:
The clover = symbol on Ivalice Green Mage, we know YoshiP loves Ivalice.
Turtles are green = Green Mage.
"Heroes in a half shell" = Shell is a signature spell of Green Mage(and most often green, to differentiate it from the blue Protect). Likely raidwide mitigation ability.
Turtles are named after artists = Ivalice Green Mage has a beret, commonly associated with painters.
If this is all a big red herring, I'm okay with that too, though. xP

I've been on team "druid/nature mage" this whole time. I'm not familiar with the old ff games, so idk if this aligns with "green mage", but my original reasoning was because SE commented that this area is very in-tune with the natural world, the plant graphics in particular were highlighted, and a plant-themed mage would immediately be distinct from the other jobs. ♥

I'm 100% on board with that. I'd love to throw a literal jungle at my enemies by utilizing plants and vines. They could also toss a healthy dose of water into the mix, allowing us to "seed" the enemies and then blast them with water-based spells, growing the seeds into dangerous plants that have varying effects. I could see it as an interesting take on the dot-mage class.

I could maybe see a green mage working in FF14's system if they go all in on the debuffing angle. Part of its gameplay loop being building up the right combination of debuffs on your enemies so that your damaging spells hit super hard, and/or having DPS spells that have different effects depending on which debuffs the target as.

Good on the Sage call. When people get uppity on Green Mage's spell options, I'm just like "Yes and Sage is known for being a Poison/Bleed casting Barrier + Gundam".
We can get Nature Mage out of this, or even that Pictomancer but called Green Mage, under the same weirdness as Sage. Maybe this is Galuf's job, inherited by Krile.
Corsair has the opposite problem and I consider it far more copium. We have Rogue/Thief, and an abundance of actual Pirates no less as Gladiators and Marauders... the key elements of a piratey melee job are covered in 14 already. It's not impossible, but by what elements does the "piratey melee job" stand out or distinguish itself?

I think Green Mage is the obvious pick. I'd love to see them let GRN lean into support, like a more party buff oriented RDM. Shell, Protect, and Bubble could all work similarly to Magic Barrier & Tactician. Drain and Syphon could easily become DoTs, Oil could be a caster Trick Attack, or they could do a split phys/mag version with Deprotect & Deshell.

I was thinking if it is Green Mage it could retain the buffer/debuffer, but be more focused on buffing oneself or something and be the scouting melee class. The idea being that your burst window would potentially have debuffs like trick and mug (or something similar), buffs for days, and then no idea how they'd implement the actual physical/magical attacks. Some of the buffs maybe could be enhancing your weapons and others being your body. That being said, kinda see it more as a possibility than a "this is what I think will happen." Would be cool to get a twist like that.

Green Mage - DoM Job. Will most likely be based around DoT gameplay. With the job Guage allowing you to track the duration of the dots as opposed to looking at the enemy's HP bar. 2 dots plus a 3rd "super dot" that's an OGCD but with a cooldown and cost "green mana" (longer duration the more green mana spent). A spell that removes dots from the target to deal X damage depending on the time remaining (3rd super dot doesn't count). Bain (AoE dot spreader) and pre-EW Tri-Dissaster (applies both dots instantly) making a comeback under different names. Of course GRN will most likely have a rez spell.
Anyways. This was fun to speculate.

      @encapturer ปีที่แล้ว

Haha, using the gauge to track dots was what I've imagined a reworked scholar dot system would look like; you'd tether to an enemy and they'd take constant damage depending on your "bio gauge" which you had to refill with certain skills and each gauge has different durations.
Bane would spread the tether on a shortish duration to nearby enemies.
The problem with dots is that they take up debuff space so the tether debuff exists to only take up only one debuff slot.

I could see this being a pet class, kind of like a druid who aligns with an animal and synergises their aether. Tulal looks like it is abundant with nature, and if the flow of aether is weaker there then it could make sense to use the aether of other living creatures to produce magic, in the same way Red Mage uses an aether accelerator to turn small amounts of aether into big spells.

I still think Green Mage, just to fit with the other chromatic mage names. when you mentioned sage though it got me thinking that it could play in a similar way that Eukrasia augments a sages spell. you could apply a buff/debuff. with another spell. so say it could cast Toxify. or Bio. putting a dot on the target. but sat you could Syphon + Toxify, now applies the dot but also heals the mage. expanding further, instead of being like a Sage stuck with 1 prefix spell. a green mage has several prefix spells and only a few base spells but so you could use whatever prefix spell to enhance the base. making the base spell Aoe, buff party, debuff target further, change element type etc. some interesting play possibility

Feeling the class might not be called Green mage. It feels like it'd be really confusing considering the fact that DPS has a red icon plate and healers have a green icon plate.
On top of that there really isn't anything about green Mage that is particularly interesting or unique. In the games that it's from it is typically a buff debuff made and used poison based damage over time spells.
And while that might be good for a game like Final Fantasy Tactics, they've shown to be pushing us away from dots for the most part

Green Mage could fit a neat almost bard like role for the caster group still a dps but focused on maybe debuffing the enemy so your group does more damage as a whole, i'm sure that would be hell to balance but still would kinda love to see it
Green Mage or Not i'm 1000000% on team give Krile more screen time

Hot take prediction for casters: SMN will lose res, RDM and Green Mage will both have it. Two "utility" casters, 2 "pure" casters. RDM/SMN will want Crit>Sps and BLM/Green will want Sps>Crit. 2 pairs in 2 different ways. I doubt they'll go for DOT mage due to issues with TOP boss having too many buffs/debuffs on them at one point IIRC.

I'm on team "please no...", mostly just because the name is dumb. It's like Dragon Ball Super, where you just name every transformation after a new colour... It's so uncreative. And if you change the name and make major changes to how it's played, you might as well drop the entire thing.
I'd be fine with something like Druid though, that might be fun.

I am very cautiously optimistic as for two things, Krile being more forward in the expansion hopefully and second, I really want the new job as Pictomancer as it feels generally much more interesting as a class than what I "could" see as green mage. It also would give some love/lore to older dungeons like the Antitower back in Heavensward. But besides all that I hope its picto but i don't generally mind if its another class anyhows.

The support/debuff aspect may not be completely out of the question. Augment Evoker in WoW has been pretty successful even if it's not exactly balanced. I could see them doing something similar in FF14. Personally I'm hoping for more of a dot based caster but we'll see.

Dark Knight in 14 isn't particularly Dark Knight either. Dark Knight has traditionally been a "What is a tank? I'm here to burn my HP for more damage." class in almost any incarnation outside DRK, so fitting Green Mage into something outside the typical wouldn't surprise me.

RE the TMNT T-shirt, worth noting that the film that's referencing, from what I read at the time, has the turtles much more mystically/magically focused, rather than melee focused iirc.
I can see how a green mage with abilities that augment physical attacks with some kind of super simple poison dot (5 damage per tick for example) could be quite good fun.

Always felt like they were leaning away from dots in part because they were an issue for hunts though I guess in the long run that’s pretty minimal content and not a reason to not make a dot user at all. Just would be funny to see them kicking each other’s dots off those bosses lol
I was hoping a bit more for pictomancer but I won’t lie it was mostly so we could have paintbrush styled weapons or some such outside the makai rod for blam mages. Whatever we get I hope it has a cool weapon as I’m unsure with the melee - feeling like we’re just going to get another sword styled job potentially

Green mage makes sense. Healers and Melee DPS got a new job in EW. Tanks and rphysDPS got a job in SB. Now, a job that slots into the R magic role, that hasn't been touched since SB, makes sense. Plus whatever shares scouting armor with NIN... Corsair.

Now that we know what the first job will be, Viper, Leonardo was a Dual Sword wielder, and Donatello was a staff wielder. I'm thinking part of the tease with the shirt was just that for Viper, no idea if it teases the other job as well.

Tbh I feel if it WASNT Green Mage at this point, it would be a shock. Obviously it would be more like the sage modification and I think making it nature/druid/nature magics based makes sense and keep some of the classic green mage stuff on it but as an offensive nature themed rework. Would main that for dawn trail if it happened

There are some jobs they can choose from FF11 that aren't in FF14. There is also a lot to choose from, primarily from FF Tactics. I want Thief for a second job for Rogue, Ranger for a second job for Archer, Knight, or some other kind of tank, and Green Mage, who looks cool, might be a healer. There's also Geomancer or Time Mage, which could be a magic DPS, and with that, I have given my guesses for each role. Let's be honest, we're only getting 2 of these and the remaining 2 in the next expansion after Dawntrail.

Team Green Mage as a nature mage, with White Mage leaving behind most of it's elemental spells in offense and only keeping stuff like the lilies and the bell, it gives room for maybe the other side of the coin, White Mage heals nature, Green Mage defends it, or maybe this is wishful thinking cause it's my favorite aesthetic and I REALLY want that Artifact armor lol

My fantasy (lol) seeing Yoshi-P wearing TMNT shirt, the charm leaf at the end of 6.5, and the whole trailer of Dawntrail is a special job in the form of Yokai, mystic form in the world of TMNT. The power of Yokai is resembled in the form of a leaf of 3, 6 or 9. This one has 3. The trailer reflects exploration, mysteries, food, magic, combat, festivities, personality and those sort of stuff which make Yokai..a Yokai :P The true power is born when Yokais are hit with elemental so they can imbue their weapon with it. The fight scene uses fire. And last of all, the Warrior of Light always wear a coat to hide his personality, how Yokai walk the land of man. Should be awesome fighting with imbued weapons!

The thing is, GRM could *technically* be a buffer/debuffer in a way. With DoTs and maybe a Chain Stratagem/Mug equivalent sort of skill. Really leaning into party dps instead of personal dps would be interesting. In any case, if we get our nature mage I'll be very, very happy regardless of the playstyle.
