LOVED this movie. Michelle Williams is at her most beautiful. Stunningly gorgeous. And I really loved the story line and other characters. I was blown away by Michelle's ability to lapse effortlessly into an English accent.
Perhaps you should read the book. Her character was "introduced" to sex by her mother's boyfriend at 14, and since then uses sex as a coping mechanism. She is chronically anxious, and that warmth and comfort is the only thing that keeps her sane. She isn't happy with her husband, she stays with him because of their child. Finding love with someone else doesn't make her a "twat", it makes her human.
I felt sorry for the husband and the son. For the mother, I felt indifference, even hatred. She was shitting on her husband and son by sleeping with another guy and now she loves them after their deaths. And she has a child with the lover, forever tainting the memory of her husband and son.

Words can not describe how much I love this movie. I read the book afterwards, and while I almost always prefer the book to the movie, I actually love the changes that they made, and felt Ewan and Michelle's performances were perfect. Incredible story, very well done.
This movie was not an afront to Islam, it was a beautifully tragic tale of terror, heartache, guilt, and love.
Certainly hope this comes out in the States! It looks very sad, but very good.

This is a great movie...
I hated Petra's character, and much preferred the Jasper that you see in the movie. There are characters that you love to hate, and characters that just make you say "go away", and Petra was the latter.
smgfan1heart Yeah, I was very pleased they took Petra out. I also hated the ending of the novel, I thought the movie did a better ending, however, there were a LOT of scenes from the book that I would have loved to see. Like the scene were Jasper comes into the lady's restroom to talk to the young mother, or the scene where Petra enters to the Wellington State apartment and she starts yelling at the young mother, or even better, the scene where she meets Terrence Butcher (which was better in the novel). I liked the novel, but the ending was like "Okay, what just happened?". I mean, Petra went away and (spoiler alert) the young mother ended up literally crazy. It was very real but not so inspiring like in the film, after all, the film is about dealing with a loved one's death and fighting to stand up and to find love again. However, I think the book is worth-reading. Makes you reflex a lot, and it makes you kind of feel lucky, in a strange way.

Just watched the movie and I got conclusions from that. First Incendiary is an amazing movie. Second English acent is the worse.

Very powerful, strong and touching movie. Not to mention underrated & overlooked. Michelle Williams was wonderful here. Ewan McGregor and Matthew Macfadyen were great as well. The film deserved way bigger recognition

what is wrong with directors doing movies BASED on films and using 1/4 of the actual story line?? just watched the movie and i am soo disapointed,seriously. the book was awesome i read it in one day but the movie was just painful to watch!! whats with the indian little boy? i dont remember him from the book...and what about PETRA SUTHERLAND i mean wth!!!?? ugggh im suing whoever made that crap,only positive point was MW's acting, shes a great actress.but movie sucked nonetheless
