Terminator: The Dark Years is a fan-edit/proof-of-concept for the story of Kyle Reese, John Connor, & the Resistance during the future war.
This is not a prequel... For this edit, this is as an alternate future created from changing the timeline. I've created scenes using multiple films; it may cut from T4 to T1 to T3, so instead of acknowledging the origin of the footage, try to ignore the cuts and view the moment as a unique scene... For clarity: All of the events are occurring in chronological order.
Using repurposed footage from the entire franchise including films, tv shows, games, and even theme-park attractions, this is a story featuring Christian Bale, Linda Hamilton, Anton Yelchin, Michael Biehn, Edward Furlong, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Summer Glau, Brian Austin Green, Jason Clarke, MacKenzie Davis, and more.
In this alternate future, all of the characters from the films and tv shows co-exist. The timeline keeps repeating and making minute changes. As the story unfolds, familiar moments play out in dramatically different ways. In this story, John and the resistance will have to defeat the T-800, T-1000, T-X, T-3000, Harvesters, Rev-9, and several others.
I've added blood to several scenes to return the series to its horror roots and give the film a bleak, sad tone.
The intention of this project is to create something nostalgic, yet new. I tried to appeal to every Terminator fan.

cool. I was ex more sequels from the first terminator. For instance, the end at the gas station when Sarah drove the jeep wrangler. But, what I like the most dogs started barking at my left ear and finished it in my right. fkn AWESOME.

I have been waiting for something like this for 20 years. The future war was always talked more about in the books, and the sequences from all the movies nearly teased at the war, but this puts into a cohesive and coherent story that is absolutely top tier. Well done.

Thank you for the hard work JN! I just watched this one and I felt amazed. You made well all Terminator series in right orders I can say. Your chronological orders of movie scenes make very clear and make it sense to me. As a fan of the Terminator, people already knew how this movie would be. There are lots of Terminator series that conflict with timeline and storyline. As a result, the Terminator looks like different time of future with people and places. Always, I think that Terminator 1 and 2 are good enough and finish with future war with T3. However, more serise of teminators are complicated and unmatched because the script writers can change any storylines. For example, JC died in Terminator darkfate,but Kate Brewster could send new t-800 to protect John before John got shot. That is why, these series can change. Wish that you can make hollywood movie on this. TITLE:The terminator terminated or the terminator final day of future something like that. I am sure it will be amazing final movie. I will definitely send this to other friends. Gracias!

Awesome. This is the movie I wanted to see when I watched Kyle's flashback in the first movie. The short glimpses of the dark future needed fleshed out to improve the story.
Right away, one thing this work did right in comparison to Salvation regarding the future war period, MOST of the storyline/action taking place at night, staying true to Kyle Reese's words from the first movie about how the human resistance can only come out in the night time as they have better chances of survival than the day. Just staying true to every little detail like that goes a long way into establishing a good canon story. Well done!

The title theme in the starting itself makes me feel I was on a terminator movie which was missing in the previous movies, t5 and t6

Yeah, I even like Salvation for some reason. It was McG, I think. Somehow it gives a feel of T1/T2. Marcus' story is very interesting. I would like to see more stories from that timeline/year.
This movie was amazing. It took me through the first Terminator movie and the ones inbetween to show us how The T-800 (original Terminator was sent back and the mission of Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn). Outstanding presentation!!!!! Great to see the major faces of ALL the terminators exept Kristianna Loken who played the Terminator in Rise of the Machines.

The terminator is real, giant tanks will blow up everything in its stop, we need to find a special transistor that blocks the robots from reading our minds in the future.
Josh... if you put this together you did a super job. I love the way you used original actors as well as new people, of which I actually recognized several of them from other films. I just wish you could’ve made it a little longer. A two hour film would have been really great.

The scene where Sarah and John are at the beach....where the music of the terminator begins to play.....to see John’s face turn from joy to sudden fear....
....should have been the real ending to Terminator 2, which would’ve ended the franchise on a cliff hanger deserving a fan’s imagination to run wild with ideas on what John Connor saw, before the movie ended, that terrified him so much.

The Terminator is what started my passion for robotics and mechanical engineering when I was a kid in the 80's. I always wanted to know what makes things ticked if something like the story ever happened. Very nice video edit, BTW!

This was really well made and put together and is something that really appealed to me, especially with the prospect the franchise may not come to a point like this.
Of course this will never flow seamlessly or be perfect because of the Terminator films being differently cast, color graded, shot, edited, having a different tone, and a different aesthetic. But you did your absolute best and I applaud these efforts.

I recently found this and this has to be one of the best fan mix edits I’ve seen. As a follower of the fan editing community I’ve always had an appreciation for the art of editing, as so many “bad” films can be turned “good” just through a few minor cuts. But my favorites are always the ones that manage to mix together multiple sources to create an entirely new narrative, and this is easily the best. Your love for the franchise is clear, and the work really shows. Your talent is incredible: I’m also a horror filmmaker and I hope to see you in the industry, you truly deserve it! Please keep up the editing and film work, you only will get better with time and practice, and with the skill you show with this edit, I know that you will turn out to be one of the best editors around. That was a really good mock up for an all encompassing version of a feature length movie. At some point in the future this will be classic mashup.

They are HYBRIDS from the deleted "project angel" story-line in Terminator Salvation. By all accounts the whole third act of the movie was reworked after a lot of it was shot. "Hope of the Future" has a really good breakdown of the deleted scenes and CHUD website has a nice distillation of the development hell that movie went through.

This is a movie. This is an original movie. This is cannon. This is a work of art. This is as good as if not better than anything else in this franchise. Watching this movie is a worthwhile event and time well spent. I can only say Thank You and be very appreciative for this movie. It was far more than a fanmade movie in every way. Wow! Great editing and I'm sure this was a real Labor of love, and a lengthy one! Ive been a terminator junkie since the first installment. This really blew me away and is good as any movie and has perfect continuity along with its musical score that helped sew it all together quite nicely. I don't see why you're not employed to do this full time, if you're not already. Because were someone to see this that didn't know any better they'd think it was another chapter from the franchise and would be none the wiser. You're right, the nostalgia was a treat. Especially for us that remember what a big deal the first one was back then and how the "I'll be back" instantly became a familiar and commonly used catch phrase!

I loved it! The whole series circulates on John Connor’s life and this video/clip captures some great moments masterfully. At certain points, I thought it was a movie in itself with many parts I have not seen. Had a great time, great job!
