Important KIA Soul Ex Maintenance - Bad Wrench

- In this video, I talk about Kia Soul maintenance items I have noticed so far on our 2020 KIA Soul EX. Some items are basic maintenance but some are just strange. The strange thing is with KIA Soul is leaving the vehicle sit for 20 min after the first start up after changing the oil to get a accurate reading of the oil level. The other is the issue of how the air filter must be change more often to keep the engine running right. On big maintenance item on any KIA Soul is doing a intake cleaning on the GDI engine. Because the gas is direct injection into the cylinder this cleaning is necessary to keep the engine running properly.

Hi, I had a Kia Rio with a gdi engine, I trade for a brand new Soul 2.0 MPFI. You are right with the maintenance of the valves with the valve cleaner. I usually do it every 10,000mi. The 1.6 gdi engine have a small vaccum hose over the plenum. If you remove the top cover can see it in the middle of the plenum. On that point is more easy to apply the valve cleaner. Also that valve cleaner helps to avoid carbon deposits in the turbo blades. That is the weak point on small engines and that is the cause of catrastophic failure over the 60,000mi, because the owners didn't know about it.

Thank you for subscribing. Our KIA Soul EX doesn't have the moonroof but I do have a sunroof on a vehicle that is about to come to the channel and this would be the same steps for the KIA Soul.
Hey you changed channel names again, right? Anyways, I just wanted to say (I don't remember if it was this particular video, but you warned about how testy the souls are with dirty air filters. I just found that out last night. The wife and I were going to dinner and when I started her Soul, it was very rough and the check engine light came on. I remembered what you said and checked the filter the next day and although I didn't feel it was THAT dirty for a normal vehicle, I replaced it anyways, I got in, started it up and it purred like a kitten. I went to autozone to check the code, since the light was still on and he said yeah it seems like you cleared it up. He was unable to clear the code, so I came home and removed the negative battery terminal. It cleared it and the engine light hasnt come on all day so I feel like you saved me a trip to the dealer. I just did a 30,000 mile maintenance check on my 2022 KIA SOUL and now I smell gas inside my car ??? I went back to the dealership and they checked everything over and they said they didn’t find anything wrong!! HELP
@@ritabuck6893 I would strongly recommend that you find another KIA dealership look at your car. Or find a reliable repair shop to check over the fuel system. Avoid driving the car until it gets a re-inspection
I have a 2022 LX and my coolant is a redish pink color from the factory. It stays as the F line so far. 400 miles.
Cool, they must have changed the coolant that they were using for 2022. Make sure that KIA gives you the right stuff if they did change coolant. Thank you for the info.
21 was pink as well but it might be the specific engine.
Special tool for the rear brakes...GREAT!!! Yeah u know what I find odd, is there's a couple guys who comment on those oil change videos and they're coming out AGAINST pre-fiiling the oil filter. Like actually taking it personally when someone says pre-fill the oil filter. It doesn't cost a dime extra to do it, and it takes what, 30 seconds? WHO cares, fill it, like you said it's just a little extra added insurance.
Most oil change places will not fill the filter. If the oil you buy is not clean then you need a different oil. 😁 Running a engine dry of oil will do damage to many internal engine parts.

What year is this Soul? You sure you have the 1.6T GDI engine? Looking at that engine it really looks like you have the 2.0L naturally aspirated Nu engine. I don't think that's a GDI engine. Also, putting a CAI on that thing will REDUCE your fuel economy, not increase it. And on the ISG (auto stop/start) you can just wedge a business card to hold in the switch that turns it off and it will stay off.
I have a 2022 soul. It runs 0W20. Not 5W20
Also my coolant is red. What are you talking about?
What engine do you have?
Have 2021 Kia Soul. You can hear when it needs oil. Use full synthetic oil.
Sometimes you can hear when a engine is low on oil but it is very subtle. It might be that the engine ticks or might have a weird idle. Either way it always good to do weekly inspections.
GDI service interval ?
KIA service department was telling us to do this service at every 35,000 miles. I think there was a engine resigned of the 2.0 in 2017 and you don't need to do this cleaning.
You named your channel correctly. Doing more talking than demonstrating.
Kia motors have poor block deburing and the little pieces get into the crank feed holes and no oil to bearings.
They also have issues with improperly heat treated bearing that fail unexpectedly.
I have a 2022 LX with the technology package, absolutely cannot stand start/stop I turn it off every time I get in the car. I hate that you have to hit the button every time you crank up the car. Nonetheless I love my Soul!
Yes it is frustrating to deal with but I use sport mode when I drive or 2020 and it doesn't auto start stop in sport mode. We are noticing a throttle lag so I will be doing something about this.

@@tj-4594 I have found 2 ways to turn off the auto start stop. I made a video on that and I am looking into another product that will permanently turn it off but I need to look into it more. I don't want to void any warranties.

You don't need that tool for the rear brakes. Just a needle nose pliers. Apply pressure as you turn. Simple
I do work on other kinds of vehicles and I want to show people how to do these repairs the right way. I have had it where the caliper piston is a little tight and the trick you are talking about would damage the caliper piston. If the piston moves easy then you can use this trick but the few dollars you spend on the tool and then you will always have it for future jobs.
