These wilderness creators are a different breed. Set up the camera, film myself walking 50 yards through deep snow, go back 50 yards to grab the camera, return the 50 yards to where I was, start process all over. All while it’s minus 20 degrees. 😮 That commitment to your content.
Spray painting near a fire with such fumes. I would have waited until the stovepipe was warm and I could escape the toxic fumes and go outside. I love your little getaway. 🇨🇦
But hadn’t he already put the fire out? After all,he had already capped the stovepipe in preparation for leaving. He waited until he was getting ready to leave to paint the stovepipe, so the fire or the fumes should not be an issue.
I don't know why, but places like this dugout, or the tree house, vans converted into tiny homes on wheels, trucks with converted beds where people camp out in and other similar shelters have always seemed so cozy and comfortable to me. I would love to have one of those
That's exactly what I felt too. I had some great cozy dens, insulated with straw, polythene for waterproofing, clay for mortar. We lived near fields on the edge of a new building estate so we had access to wood nails some tools. Wonderful memories.

Hello from Nevada in the U.S.! It is winter here and we are in the middle of a snowstorm! I make this trip every weekend to visit my family and I really enjoy watching your videos when I am home! Keep up the great work! You are a true inspiration to outdoorsman everywhere! Thanks for all you do! My best to you and yours!
True. Canadian here. At different temperatures it makes different noises. At -10 C, it crunches. At -20C, it squeaks. Any colder it squeaks at a sharper tone.
Thanks for telling us what the temperature is. In the past you showed us a thermometer. For only a fraction of one second. Thanks also for showing the temperature in C and also F. The USA is behind the times because we still use F.
We (UK) switched to Celsius a long while ago but old people like me can convert it quite quickly. Same when we decimalised our currency. In the beginning, myself and all other children had to convert the ‘old’ money for ‘new’ money to most adults! May I ask why the US still uses Fahrenheit?
Did this in the woods behind my house with a few friends in my hood. This is so cool. Pardon the pun. We were all happy campers. P-nut butter sandwich, a candy bar of some kind, a 20 cent soda. Yes 20 cents. 1955-56
I'm Australian and the lowest temperature I have endured was -5C. Whilst living in Canada in 1999. I was driving in rural North of Ontario and got caught in a blizzard of -35 to -45C. Lucky as an outdoors man. I carried extra gear and survived 3 days trapped under 8ft of snow. Got severe frost bite but all was well
Came across your videos recently, from the comfort of southwest uk. We don’t have such extreme winters here! I enjoy watching your progress and the way you add to and improve your cosy hideaway at each visit. Your videos are quietly instructive, love the measured pace of your labours.

That's a nice dugout. Looks very warm. If you'd put rug on all the walls I bet it would be lots warmer, wool rugs. Just check behind them occasionally for mold
Alex, thank you for sharing another great video…..what stamina you have to endure such frigid cold 🥶‼️ The rug on the wall near your bed was ingenious!……stay safe my friend 👍
On one of my many sojourns into the bush I spent six weeks, February into March, on my own as was usual. During those weeks the temp. dropped to -45, most often days were below -25 and colder. I would make a simple snow shelter for the night with a candle for light and a bit of heat. . Since there was deep snow during that time I traveled on snowshoes, dragging my bit of gear wrapped in a tarp as I didn't have a sled or toboggan. Over those cold, dark weeks (in the far north days are short during winter) I seldom had a fire, usually one or two small fires each day, enough to boil water for tea and to make a bannock. By the time those six weeks were done I could feel my teeth getting loose as I was eating little. When April arrived I was happy as I was able to fish for Grayling to feed myself better. It is amazing how long we can go without much food or fire, even during bitter winter.
NEW VIDEO th-cam.com/video/KRWmqdn5Tzc/w-d-xo.html Hi! It was an extreme trip to my dugout. During the day, the temperature is -25 degrees Celsius (-13 Fahrenheit), and at night it was promised to cool down to -34 degrees (-29.2 Fahrenheit)! I didn't know if my forest dugout could cope with such a frost, so I was afraid to freeze. But my wood-burning stove showed its best side! It was warm and cozy!
Nice and modern looking carpet at the wall. Maybe you should have another room too here ? Definitely going into earth about 1 Meter was an good decision to keep your home warm.

But my new house, I am trading out my kitchen stove for a wood burning stove. It will make oven goods taste awesome, as they did long ago, no more gas fumes inside the cooking goodies. Glad I keep watching your videos. Love them and so admire you for all the hardship you endure and your mental focus to get exactly what you need. Then your neatness and attendance to keeping everything in order. God bless you, you always make me so happy watching your videos. Thank you very much.

I just found your video and enjoyed it very much. It's a lot colder there than it ever gets here in North Carolina, USA. Beautiful cabin. I will have to go back and watch your earlier videos. Thank you very much. Stay warm and safe and God bless.
This felt like watching Ghibli Movies, this is my favorite bushcraft, because you made your house like a real off the grid home with continuous upgrades. It's so relaxing and satisfying, I hope you keep improving the house. Lot's of love from Philippines
Of course you want that chimney to blend in and keep your zemľanka hidden. When you retreat to it to "disappear" from civilization. There might be absolutely reasonable and legal reasons to hide (I would certainly hide in such circumstances). Just make sure to bring enough canned food to survive for a couple of weeks, possibly months. And water, if there are no near sources of drinking water when there is no snow around. 😀
Looking like a beautiful winter home, Alex! I hope things where you are stay safe and your times at the cabin remain both peaceful and restful, but most of all private! Painting the chimney was a good idea, and it looks like it probably doesn't need to be that tall when it's wet and cold like this.
The taller the pipe the better the draft once u get the pipes warm. And I’m thinking there is extreme snow there. Better to have it to long then to short and have to add pipe or make changes in a snow storm

Hola Alex.. te mando un abrazo cálido desde Lima Perú..!! Gracias por compartir todas tus experiencias .. ha cuidarse mucho amigo.. para seguir viendo tus vídeos...
Alex, I am so glad that you were able to stay warm 🙂 The stove that you built is absolutely amazing‼️ As always, I'm already looking forward to the next video 😁
Great video. Just an important tip. Your Co2 alarm is too high. CO2 is heavier than oxygen. When your alarm goes on, you're already in the middle of the CO2. The Co2 Warner should be installed at least a little lower than your bed, so that in an emergency you have a chance of waking up in time and surviving.
Hey Alex, nice job on the video as usual :) I was wondering if you ever thought about about maybe bringing some plastic tubs with you(ones similar to what one would use to maybe store clothes in or something) and let them collect snow when it snows so when it eventually melts, you'll have a little bit of a water supply? Or something similar?
You can get super large plastic storage bags with zip lock tops and handles, that are much lighter to carry and the thin sides would let the snow melt faster
So glad I caught another one of your videos love what you are doing with this cabin and love the scenery surrounding the cabin thank you for sharing 🙏👍
Alex, your vids are fascinating, addictive and thoroughly enjoyable! But I have a few questions that hopefully you (or someone else) can answer: Where do you get your water? Or electricity? (I noticed an outlet in your dwelling in another video.) Do you use a nearby tree when nature calls, no matter the weather? (Edited for clarity.)
Yes, Alex 's cabin is off connection. The water he brings some bottles to drink and for the washing it's water from outside which he de freezes on his oven. For the electricity, he comes each time with a strong battery which is enough for his low power Led lamps
Big compliments for your video. For me it is absolutely relaxing and to the point and brings the essentials without pressure. Best regards from Germany.
Alex!' Thank you again for another pleasant video, All ways nice to see you again. Very cold temps. You come out to. So thank goodness for the wood and nice stove. Liked the wall hanging. Can help keep draft off you and it looks nice.Your dinner you prepared looked great. And your tea looked hot. Stay safe warm and well. Alex see you at your next video.😊

No, it is all staged. "Extreme Fost." WTH? I drive to work and see frost on the roofs of houses. WITH MY CAR WINDOWS OPENED WHILE SMOKING!

Lindo!! Excelente tudo sempre organizado limpo. É uma delícia assistir!! Amo já assisti todos .Abraço aqui do Brasil 🇧🇷
Thanks for your video its the first time ive seen it the dugout looks snug and warm for you be safe out there enjoy your stay God bless Amen
Lol
You can get super large plastic storage bags with zip lock tops and handles, that are much lighter to carry and the thin sides would let the snow melt faster
So glad I caught another one of your videos love what you are doing with this cabin and love the scenery surrounding the cabin thank you for sharing 🙏👍
Obrigado pela legenda, Alex! ❤
Alex, your vids are fascinating, addictive and thoroughly enjoyable! But I have a few questions that hopefully you (or someone else) can answer:
Where do you get your water? Or electricity? (I noticed an outlet in your dwelling in another video.) Do you use a nearby tree when nature calls, no matter the weather?
(Edited for clarity.)
yes, tree when Nature calls or pants when Bear comes
Yes, Alex 's cabin is off connection. The water he brings some bottles to drink and for the washing it's water from outside which he de freezes on his oven. For the electricity, he comes each time with a strong battery which is enough for his low power Led lamps
Gracias por dejarnos participar !!!!
The dugout is getting cozier with every video. Great work! ❤
So great to follow your adventures again Alex Wild! Stay warm and eat plenty of hot food and have many hot drinks!

Thank you for this great series. I have always wondered what stops rain water from collecting in your entryway and flooding your cabin.
It's built on nearly pure sand.
built over a layer of pallets.
