@kristirauckis and I host a group trip to trek the Salkantay Trail to the famed Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu, in Peru. This is a bucket-list trek to one of the wonders of the world. Our group faced adversity along the trail with unexpected landslides, injuries, and high altitude struggles.

This was the most incredible experience. I am so grateful to everyone who joined us, for being wonderful humans and creating lasting memories. 💚 Not to mention what an incredible job you did in editing this video. You’re amazing, my love!
I'm so proud of you, you trained so hard and got healthy. I love being able to share these places with you!
I love you guys 😍
Eric and Kristi, you took a ton of great video and audio and made a wonderfully powerful story! It was an honor to join you all. I am still in awe and it's been almost a month home. Thank you for capturing our trek so eloquently and beautifully. Cuy cuy!
Cuy cuy!!
So happy to have shared this trip with you Rob!!
Oh man this one took me back. Honestly words can’t express how amazing this adventure was. The beautiful people, scenery, food, trails… the list goes on. The love and support I felt in a time of need (no one wants to get injured on the trail, but it happens) got me through it. Love you guys so much. I’d do it again in a heartbeat ❤ minus the knee dislocation of course lol
well....I didn't plan on watching a 45 min video but i just couldn't stop watching. what a great video and it looks like a great time was had by all.
haha a true compliment! Thank you! Yep, even Danielle had some fun despite the incident.
Eric, this was my favorite of all your videos. Beautifully shot, well written, edited and great music. Thank you for sharing this with us. Loved the teamwork and love from everyone involved. Looked like the adventure of a lifetime.
What a great adventure…your scenery and narration was exceptional! We love Barak and Danielle and are so happy they got to make this trip with you!
Wow, that whole trek is just mind blowing 🤯 thank you so much for sharing your adventure. This may be the closest I ever got to the Inca Trail and Machu Pichu, but you did a masterful job showing it ❤
And thank you to Grayl for providing all of the water purifiers, that is truly awesome!
Wow! Breathtaking.
Amazing video, Eric. You truly captured the vibe of the trip. I am immensely grateful to have shared this adventure with you, Kristi, and the rest of the amazing group. Until our next adventure...
Your amazing footage brought me back to the incredible memories of my own hike along the old Inca Trail back in the '90s. The footage truly captured the breathtaking beauty and the sense of adventure that comes with trekking through such a historic and majestic place. It was a trip that left an indelible mark on me, and watching this footage reminded me of the awe and wonder I felt every step of the way. Well done 👏👏!
What a stunning video! Charles and I thoroughly enjoyed watching this incredible adventure. Thank you for sharing these beautiful moments and this truly inspiring trek!!! Hoping to one day join you :) Also the love between you and Kristi is so sweet.
Keep at it Eric! Love watching your videos. Guided tours are fantastic for you as you are so knowledgeable. Keep on trekking!!
I was crying from beginning to end! 💚
Wow, that was fantastic thanks so much! What a great group and great time. I hope Danielle’s knee was ok.
Thank you! I'm happy to report she is doing well and recovering nicely.
Healing well! Thank you for asking. In my third week of physical therapy and I’m back to riding my horse :)
@@kraftsinglelady So happy to hear 👏. So painful to see you walk out, and so glad PT is helping, vs having to do more drastic things like surgery. Glad you are back riding!
Great stuff!! With all of the support, that must have been an expensive trip.
Enjoy these experiences. I keep telling my son to take advantage of his youth (he’s 18) and experience great places instead of sitting in his room and playing his PS. Some day he may be like me, stuck at home taking care of my 92 year old blind mother.
Great adventure & glad Danielle could still smile as she got in the vehicle. A memorable 30th
If you do a trip for overweight over 60 grandparents I’d love to go. I can only walk about 4 miles w/ out a long break. Guess I need more practice.
Beautiful scenery & Kristi is good w/ the camera too.
Excellent video! Enjoyed everything about it. Your videos capturing these epic adventures are amazing. Keep ‘em coming!
Thanks, awesome video.... I met my husband on the Inca Trail hiking with a group 22 years ago. We bonded over gastroenteritis at the back of the group, we blame poor man's chicken. Wouldn't change a thing!
haha wow, now that's a great way to meet a partner! Thank you!
Thanks for capturing such amazing beauty from your adventure.
My husband and I have been talking about seeing that place for years. Still another year or so before we are ready, but we WILL do this.
What a great trip, thanks for the hike along!
Awe, how nice what you did for your dad and then carry on. I’m 60, so that hit me.
Eric holy crap man!!! That was an adventure, and such a great video.
This was so awesome. Your videos are always so well-made.
Nice...to those ancestors I thank you, to your wife and yourself my gratitude, cudos to your group it must have been a spiritual journey for all looking forward to seeing more of your videos that are informative "mi amigo" getting back into backpacking the evolution of equipment has so changed since my time your info has helped choose my new gear...so nice
Great trip, beautiful video. Thanks Eric
Nothing better than hiking with Master Chefs 😅
Loved the video Eric, this is definitely on my bucket list too along with Patagonia
What an amazing adventure through an outstanding landscape, fantastic video Eric.
Beautiful video, beautiful place. Thanks for sharing ❤
Eric, I’m just so grateful you do what you do. You’re an inspiration, a light, and you make a hell of a hiking video. Thank you.
OMGoodness! I was just watching the breakfast (9:45 in) and thinking , I could never go because I have Celiac...then I heard you say gluten free!!!
Incredible footage!!!
Thanks Rainer!
Love this so much! Thank you!
It’s wonderful to see you and Christie together. Saying a prayer of blessing on your marriage! Great video Eric. Btw - love the pony tail!
Beautiful video. Thank you for sharing!!
Amazing!!!
Fantastic story and better video. I hope to be able join one of your adventures in the future. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much! We'd love to have you on an adventure one of these days.
Wow! Amazing job! Feel lucky to be able to watch your amazing production, thank you. 🙏
You're too kind! I appreciate that.
This looked like an awesome trip! What an experience it must have been. Danielle's injury reminded me of my own, subluxing my left knee with just shy of 4km down a steep mountain to go. I managed to get myself down with KT tape (hurray 1st aid kit!!), ibuprofen, my trekking poles and the constant encouragement of great friends that stuck with me. The descent took much longer than anticipated, but we caught the last bus out!!
As always, Bravo! on a spectacular video. Garcias , Colorado Girl
I hope you continue to do these trips Eric - I will keep my eye out for the next one after Patagonia. This looked like so much fun!
Incredible!!! Thank you so much for bringing us along!! 🌺🌺🌺🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️
You're welcome! I appreciate that.
So romantic and loved Kristi's laughter in the background.
I love it, yep! We can always count on Kristi to bring her infectious laugh!
I did the Inca a couple of years ago, and now want to go back for the Salkantay. Thanks!
We are going to the same area in Peru with Roam humanitarian in November for 10 days.
Thanks so much for sharing. This video makes me even more excited can’t wait for November!!!
This trail is amazing! Thanks for sharing this awesome video, very well produced!, it triggers lots of memories for me too. Being from Peru, a great tip for altitude that might seem simple: breathing control is key! Chewing "hoja de coca" can also help, and skip dairy could help for stomach issues.
Thank you! Battling with altitude is no fun but what you recommend was definitely helpful!
Really amazing Eric.
Congratulations for your fantastic video. 👍
Cheers
Thank you very much!
Awesome video. Beautiful scenery and a great group of travel companions. Well done! 😊
The whole group made the trip so much more enjoyable, thank you!
Thank you for sharing and making me dream 😍 I can't wait to explore this part of the world that has been on my bucket list for so long!
Peru is a magical place! I hope you are able to trek there!
Love your vids! Keep going!
Thank you so much!
What a magical place! Such beautiful scenery and artistry in the videography. You both on the trail are fun to watch. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! Peru did most of the hard work.
What a beautiful story and storytelling as well man! Brilliant cinematography, outstanding channel!!!
Thank you so much!
Beautiful landscape! Not having to cook yourself or pitch your tent is also quite enjoyable for a change. I am glad it is not all hardcore adventure for you. In addition to the amazing scenery, I also enjoyed the music you chose. It really underlined the beauty.
It felt like pure luxury! Gotta have a few of these occasionally. I'm glad you liked the music! I definitely try to find music that really elevates the feeling for a viewer.
Loved the video. I went to Machu Picchu in October and it was an unforgettable experience!
It's such an amazing place!
Y'all did the exact trek I did back in 2021 it was the most beautiful hike I've ever done and such an amazing experience. Shout out to my guides at The Green Machine
I love to hear it! The guides really made the whole experience so memorable for everyone.
How come a hiking video made my mind in peace ....
I'm so glad to hear it, that's definitely what I hope people feel after watching this.
What an amazing unforgettable experience! Any chance you're going to Torres del Paine in Patagonia? I'd sign up instantly!!!
We’re headed to El Chalten, Fitz Roy, Glaciers National Park, and Perito Moreno, which is an incredible landscape on the Argentine side of Torres del Paine. They both have massive towers of gorgeous rock! Having been to both I think they are about equal in their beauty!
Wow! With me starting a new job I'll have to delay my travel plans to next year, but I will make it to Patagonia as it is a bucket list item of mine. Can't wait to see the video of your trip there! 😊
❤❤❤
Great video! How would you compare the CS40 outdoor vitals pack vs MysteyRanch Bridger 40?
Thank you for sharing this adventure. How do people train for that elevation, especially if they live closer to sea level? Did travellers arrive early to acclimate?
Everyone was encouraged to get in to Cusco as early as they could to acclimatize. We had about 72 hours before hitting the super high altitude stuff. But the altitude definitely presents a major challenge for anyone, even me coming in from 7,000 feet!
Will you be doing this hike in 2025.? We would be interested
I ran this trek in about 8 hours with a few friends in 2022, I’m so stoked to see a video on it that’s so well made.
Ran this? wow. That's impressive! Running at this altitude is no joke!
@@eric_hansonyes sir!
Thanks for sharing your experience- I got flashbacks from mine!
I'm looking for a hiking hat just like yours for my husband. We've been looking for a while. I didn't see it on your gear list. Would you mind sharing? I first noticed it in your canyon hike with Miranda. Thank you!
Right! I need to add it in, it's a critical piece of gear! Its the Crushable Outback Hat from American Hatmakers.
@@eric_hanson Thank you!!
How many miles a day?
7, 13, 10, and 10. 40 Miles overall.
@kristirauckis I want a hat like Kristi's had. Where may I get one? Thank you!
Hi Eric, I wanted to make a feedback about a clothing - Cotopaxi Otero full zip hoodie- that you boast in many videos. I don’t like to complain so I will not here, but just wanted to tell you that I am very disappointed about this product. First, it’s not warm at all as a second layer ;-( I got a merino long sleeve as base layer (260g/m) and even with both it was not enough in Switzerland while climbing! The other thing that I would like to point out is the Hood : if you compare with the R1 air full zip of Patagonia, you realise the the Coto is weak cause it doesn’t wrap at all your head like the R1 does…with some wind you getting F…in conclusion, you advertise for Cotopaxi without telling us that there is much more better with other brands like Millet (Fusion Grid hoodie), Rab (ascendor Summit Hoody), Ortovox (Fleece Grid Hoody) etc is not fair…
As a conclusion : In the futur, I will NOT listen to a TH-camr’s advice ANYMORE . Stephane
🤎👍🏾💪🏾🪶🦅
Nope, I wouldn’t hike in Peru, period because I can’t afford it. We’re not all rich like you are.
we can still enjoy the video
Just FYI Peru is one of the most affordable foreign countries to hike in.
and I hope you enjoy the video!
I’m not physically fit enough to do this hike but enjoy the videos.
Eric, this was my favorite of all your videos. Beautifully shot, well written, edited and great music. Thank you for sharing this with us. Loved the teamwork and love from everyone involved. Looked like the adventure of a lifetime.
Amazing!
Will you be doing this hike in 2025.? We would be interested
