Return casting to TV's and chromecasts? Why is it not a thing anymore?
Edit: What i mean by this, is that meta now suggests to cast to your phone with the meta app and than mirror (cast) that to your TV. Which is extremely inconvenient and makes no sense. It gives you double delay and double the hassle. FOR EXAMPLE i wanted to screen cast to my TV yesterday evening and found this out and stopped because my phone introduced other problems. It seems like meta is just too lazy to continue support for casting to devices other than their own.
Btw using the quest 3, so it could be that for quest 2 users it is not a problem.

@@coolandamazingchicken6165 Is the Quest and the TV connected to the same Wi-Fi? If so, try see if other devices can cast to Chromecast with the same TV from for example your phone.

Except casting to Google/Android TV stopped working since this week.
The headset will only cast to my phone and then I need to mirror my phone screen if I want to see it on TV (yes, all devices are on the same wifi).
Really not ideal. I hope you guys bring back direct casting to TV because it's kind of essential.
I purchased a Google tv just so I could cast my Quest. This is so convenient and a huge asset for the Quest. It gives others the opportunity to be a part of what you're seeing. Why would this feature ever be removed. You should be making things easier not more complicated. Steaming to my phone then to my TV is just another middle man and another introduction to lag. If anything add more mirroring, like to the firestick.
Casting is essential when you are lending your VR headset to someone new to VR, in order to be able to guide them. May I request that you add casting settings? Being able to set bitrate/quality and stuff like that, it would finally remove the frame drops that happen so frequently when casting. Yes, even with the Quest 3. Cheers!
The company is on how many units already, and still hasn't added a way to even pause downloads, so I'm kind've losing a little faith here.
For reference I tried a demo recently, and the demo timed out before the game finished downloading the intro, so these units are made for people in the City with Fiber Optic, who have never worried about data limits, or having a game time out before it finishes downloading. Can't even watch TH-cam sometimes, because it's randomly downloading some crap game that I don't want anymore, without a pause button, and if you click cancel, you have to re download the entire game, on the slowest servers imaginable, oh and you cast on this device the same way you did on the last one. Spend some time fixing crap, and stop advertising, and can 1 person make a mixed reality game yet!!!!

@@Chaotikmusic One time it took me a whole week to get a game downloaded because the headset kept slowing down until the download was almost non existent. Finally figured out a way to sneak a vpn on the unit and help that situation a little. Throttling
A delay introduced by casting took quite a bit of fun out of our Beat Saber parties (vs wired Rift) - it just didn't feel as fun watching someone when their movements and image on TV wouldnt match. DOUBLING the delay to almost a second by having to cast to a phone and then mirror to TV (in addition to unwanted new hassle) would end VR parties as a thing. Not sure why Meta thinks this is a good idea and promotes it as a FEATURE. They should concentrate of reducing delay and coming up with zero delay wireless innovations instead. The work and hassle required to make VR WORK is what still stifles mass adoption. I reach for the headset and think: "do i want to bother with those things today?". Quest 3 made some steps in the right direction, but this casting idea is a step back for sure.
Cast to tvs is all i want!
Please bring back directly casting from headset to a Chromecast.
Casting to a TV is *the only use case* of any value.
Moreover for it to be a decent experience for spectators the latency needs to be much better than the ~500ms a Chromecast Ultra delivers.
Somewheat ironically the best casting experience is when the headset is being used for PCVR, and you use as little Meta software & Google hardware as possible.
Airlink or Steamlink PCVR to the headset, and cast the PC screen to a Steamlink connected to the TV.
It's the only way I've found of getting near-zero latency on the spectator view.
It's bizarre that Meta would put out a video promoting their casting support when it's in such a shambolic state of poor performance and limited support.
All I want is the old way of just selecting my tv or chromecast, not this "recast from phone or use the browser on your tv" mess :(
An easy to use way of sharing to a tv is way better for showing off vr to a group than a phone. (when it even works).

Have they fixed TV casting yet? (i.e cast to Google TV). A month ago you could just select your TV as a cast target from within VR. Now you apparently need to cast to your phone then mirror the phone to the TV 😠
I can still cast to Chromecast on my Quest 3, maybe there's something iffy for you.

I luv the music to this vid. Downtempo chill, the background music of my life. The info it is disbursing however is quite troubling. Streaming to a tv is what makes the quest a community event when you have people over. It’s bizarre the company does not look at this as a primary feature . It’s a software thing, no need to add hardware to accomplish this important feature. A huge fail on your part. I will say this, before I learned about streaming, I was teaching people how to navigate the quest by imagining what they were doing and then using my language skills to get them where they had to be. I think I upgraded those skills on my real life skill set, so thank you.
So frustrating way of casting ! Please return the old way if casting. It was easier to cast directly to Chromecast !!!

I love my quest 3, like every day. I wish we can watch full plays like stage plays, Disney on ice, ballet performances on stage, blue men, plays in Las Vegas, etc. There’s so much this device can do and I wish it had access to. I would like to watch the same videos that new HUGE GLOBE in Vegas provide for their customers and every IMAX alike.

Before V60 I could case to Chromecast, why isn't it a thing anymore? Or is it just bugged?

alright, i'm aware that meta is probably not actually reading their comments and is probably just an ai bot, however i still think this is worth saying
tbh they should just add an ability to screen share anywhere, and i ain't just talking about casting it to a phone then casting that to a tv, i'm talking about casting it to a tv with no extra steps
it'd be cool if the tv just appeared in the cast menu, and you could click on the tv you want to cast to in order to start casting to the tv, no phone casting needed

Use a free trial of Quest + so you can play Swarm. It’s a masterpiece. The games change in a few days so you need to be quick.
So did they just make tv casting way more inconvenient because literally just YESTERDAY I was perfectly casting right from the quest with it being an option, and now today it says I can only use a phone or browser 😢. What the heck Meta WHY?!
Yeah. It worked fine last week and stopped working this week. I'm supposed to drain my phone battery if I want it to show up on TV. How stupid is that?!

Please add a feature to be able to start casting to the computer remotely. By remotely I don't mean over the internet but that the headset user does not have to start it manually over the camera app. This would make it easier to guide beginners, cause until the guide can see anything, he cannot guide.

The whole idea behind VR is to spend more time playing it, and less time on technology. Too many step to cast so I can guide my 80 + gamer Father...He can't do it!
You can already remotely initiate casting of the headset from within the meta companion app.
A little bizarre that the meta representative wouldn't know this....
I believe the companion app can also be used to remotely launch games/apps on the headset, though I've never used it for this.

Thanks for the casting support. This is an area i think meta can do better in, it should be super simple to cast to nearest TV for party games
The whole reason i got a Chromecast is because streaming to my phone through the app caused extreme lag. With Chromecast that was almost non existent.
Now meta seems to want me to experience double the lag by first streaming to my phone and making me mirror to a television.
That's the Meta way 🎉
Why in the name of all that is good would you remove the ability to cast straight to a tv? 90% of our use with the quest 2 is playing for parties and family get togethers and casting it to the tv so we can all watch and enjoy together was so much fun. UNTIL NOW. Why remove the capability? Why make us screen share through a phone? It used to work great and now it’s unwatchable. The only difference is the “update” you guys did.

I question if anyone in the company has actually tried using the Quest, because it has the most amazing hardware, and looks as good as it gets for half the price of any competitor, but has anyone even tried to walk around the house and use one outside of playing a VR game. The system UI is kind've worse than the Xbox 360, but better than the Gameboy Advance. A pause download button would be pretty nice, you know, like in 2001. Every year it seems like I'm buying a new one, with the same problems as the old one, but with a better screen. Come on!!!
I’ve done all of your steps but to no avail, when I press cast on my Meta quest app it doesn’t seem to indicate a casting option even though I have the same WiFi and even if I restart it does not work, when I try to cast to my phone using the Oculus Quest 2 it only gives me a message saying to go to the app and cast there even though(as previously described)it won’t work, in previous versions/updates whenever I press cast on my oculus quest 2 in sends a notification to my iPhone and it easily lets me cast on my phone but now on update Version 60 it doesn’t give me any notifications and just says to go to the app and cast it there even though I can’t. Please fix this glitch if it is one🙏

stop telling people who've suddenly had chromecast (ninja)disabled to contact support. You know full well the issue does not originate from the consumers side. Please just own up to the problem and fix it. I bought a chromecast dongle for my Roku TV so my family could enjoy VR together, which worked like clockwork until update V60. And casting to the app is janky as hell and not worth the setup time required.

Hey there @KyleN! If your TV has a modern web browser such as Google Chrome, you can easily cast to your TV from the browser by following the instructions in the video. This way, you'll be able to share your experiences with a wider audience. Enjoy!

Modern TVs and even Chromecast are locked behind streaming services subscriptions, so you literally can't open a browser.
We are asking an application that will be installed on the TV in order to mitigate stupid Meta decisions of removing Chromecast support.

Feature request to make this easier to cast to a device like an AppleTV (maybe an app for it?). Often times we like to have the family view it on the big screen but it is very slow to cast from the Quest3 to the iPhone/iPad and then Airplay to an AppleTV. If it could stream directly to it that would be awesome!

My Chromecast is not listed anymore as a casting option.... Did you remove this feature? 🤔 🥺 Quest 3 and Chromecast are connected to the same WiFi network. It worked a few months ago, I haven't changed a thing... 🤔

I was using this iption in the meta quest 3 till the version 60 patch update, now it doesn't appear my tv.
I tried sharing to computer and it doesn't works, an error appear. And when I cast to the phone and then to the tv the audio is not sounding, and of course it's so stupid to double the image with more lag and low quality...
Honestly horrible, meta. Now I can not share the vr experience with my family in the living room.

Where is the access to the camera or an API for that? How long are you stalling on this, meta?
TV casting is a feature I've been using to sell the Meta Quest 3 to family who have been hesitant to try VR. By removing this social feature you are going to make the device even more unsocial. Bring back Chromecast, not this convoluted mess you now have instead.

Can't wait for casting 2.0 (via MQDH) to come out of beta - the cinematic mode is great but the Wi-Fi stability still isn't as solid as scrcpy.

Hey Larry! We do not offer additional storage to purchase for your headset. You can increase the amount of available space on your Meta Quest headset by uninstalling apps from your library. @@MetaQuestVR Thank you, my only real critisisms of the Quest 3 is that the battery drains when when switched off, and if you could consider doing some kind of storage adaptor in the future. As I'd really wait for the Quest 4 to come out for the additional storage otherwise.

My vr won’t let me launch it it keeps on having 3 dots and then it just powers off it is a quest 2

For the love of God Meta, please just enable chromecast. Do whatever dark deal you need to with google. Mirroring is an unmitigated failure and p.i.t.a. we need less friction to onboard more people to vr and socialise experiences.

I tried to set up a cast from the Oculus GO headset using the Oculus program from my Android smartphone, but it did not work.
Now I'm waiting for the delivery of Meta Quest 3 and I hope that everything will work.
This is so difficult compared to airplay.. What if I want to cast it to TV? I currently need to cast it either to my iPad via app or to computer and then cast to TV screen from there. VERY inconvenient and outdated implementation of casting. Nothing has changed since Quest 2.

Remove the visible guardian in recording and casting
Highly inconveinient. Went to cast to TV yesterday and noticed the chromecast option was missing. Troubleshooting the problem revealed that the Quest 2 was not supporting it because every other device I have will connect. I'm assuming this forces me to sent packets across the internet and then redownload to PC.. then cast to PC accros my home network. Only then do I get a screen that is ~half the size that I'm used to. I don't know why Meta has discontinued this usefull feature.

I wish you could improve you're casting capabilities. I find the website to be blurry and could be better quality and no options to better it. Could definitely do with simplifying it all.
Even if it's just a separate app for casting only for PC's or provide software for Smart TV's so we don't need to buy a Chrome Cast either.

Yes but your Network should be fast.
Please fix the issue with chromecast not showing up anymore. Or make it easy to downgrade firmware because v60 broke this with chromecast support….

Why is everyone upvoting this? They removed the ability to cast to tvs and Chromecast. This is stupidly short sighted.
You know what's irritating? Meta Quest I hope you see this:
My partner and I got a headset to share so we can watch each other play
I don't mind casting to phone then to TV, it works flawlessly on my account.
But you know what? When he's on his account he can't even access an app because only ONE headset can be linked to a phone. So we try to cast through something on the TV called AirScreen, which costs 1.49 a month. But even that disconnects every 4 minutes or so randomly. Why why why is it such a headache to get devices to talk to each other? Why can't two accounts connect to their respective phones so that we can cast/record/purchase from mobile??

I can cast to an Android phone or a PC browser but I also want to cast to a Chromecast on a TV, I bought a Chromecast just for this and Quest3 doesn't detect it.

Why do we need to sign in to a meta account if we just want to cast the quest 3 over a local WiFi? That's a big minus point because in situations where no internet connection exists we can't use the casting feature (mobile and PC). If the casting is transmitted over the internet it doesn't make sense and if the casting is done over the local WiFi it doesn't make sense to have an internet connection. Pleas support offline casting, it's a dealbreaker!
Fix TV casting for crying outloud or let us rollback drivers. I wanted to cast my VR gaming for others to watch this holiday, but Metas broken update screwed TV casting and they seem to push the narrative that phone mirroring is fine. Its not ä, its terrible. It is slow to set up, its laggy and missing audio. Fix your update properly, you had it working already.
Never ever am I going to trust auto updates or Meta having vommon sense with this stuff.
They keep breaking basic and useful features with each new update.
IMO this is a vital feature that desperately needs some streamlining and improvement. Too many times I have followed these steps (or previous iterations) and still been unable to cast with satisfactory quality (often it does not work at all).

I got 4 chromecast just to cast to the TV. This is BS. I can still do it with the Quest 2. But not the quest 3? I was able to before now v60 comes out you block it?

hey meta, usually it takes 20 seconds for my meta quest 3 to power on for me after pressing and holding the power button for 3 seconds. Is that normal??

It is because the double casting. First cast to phone and second cast from phone to tv. Much more video and sound delay. I have 5Ghz wifi.
Idea: Make it so it doesnt start muted and doesnt waste time unmuting it every time it disconnects.
Hey @DRTEX Automatic muting can cause some inconvenience, and this is never the experience we'd want you to have. You can always try the following troubleshooting steps:
1. Cast with another phone
2. Cast from another app (Netflix, Spotify, TH-cam)
3. Ensure all 3 devices are on the exact same network. (ex. If the router has a 5GHZ and 2GHZ channel, all the devices must be on the same channel)

Casting doesn’t work for me so I just use the screen mirror from the quest app and mirror it on my tv
I have the problem, that my Quest 3 is disconnecting from my phone after a while and I have to factory reset my quest 3 to reconnect my quest with my phone because there is no code without the reset. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Have you given any other methods, like trying to re-establish connections, a try? For instance, you can attempt to launch a game from your phone app library on your headset. Casting, like in the video above, can also help alert the headset to try to connect as well. If these steps have not worked, we recommend uninstalling and reinstalling your phone app to see if it was missing an update!

what can I do to ensure that the image transferred from the q3 to the pc is also from the right eye because I have the impression that the casting does not work according to what I have set in the camera settings in the q3
I'd like to have wider angle/FOV for casting. Is there a setting for it? Spectator/3rd person view would make more sense in some games, e.g beat saber or walkabout mini golf. At the moment golf ball and putter isn't always visible due to angle/FOV.

Why is it that even with very fast wifi and my pc on an Ethernet cable, my casting is very low quality and fps.
I cast to my phone and then the TV, but they delay and low frame rate is awful, and the audio just stays on the phone

So when I cast to my PC using the casting web address my microphone option in the bottom right hand corner no longer appears, usually I would perform a factory reset and that would fix it but now even that won’t work please help

The casting on phone works but you can't turn down the volume for some reason.

Casting to the Computer works nut not to the phone on Huawei 30 Pro. Bluetooth is enabled, everything is up to date, and primary account is in use. Any idea why?

So uh I’m having problems connecting(casting) my Oculus quest 2 with my LG tv, all of my devices(Quest 2, IPhone 14 Pro, and LG tv) are all updated and I keep restarting to try and fix the problem but no solution. Any help or ideas please 🙏

Avoid purchasing the Quest 3 for now because it's just lies compounding lies. "I will be giving any and all games not up to par a one-star review until it's to the standard of what the Quest 3 is capable of. I'm over it, Meta... The Quest 3 falls extremely short in terms of game support. Despite a massive collection of games in my library, other than a very few titles, the experience on the Quest 3 remains subpar at best due to the lack of optimization and enhancement.
Many titles I own haven't been tailored to harness the Quest 3's potential. Even games supposedly enhanced for the Quest 3, like TWD S&S, are just misleading and false advertising. Give me a Quest 2 game and say it's enhanced because the Q3 lenses are clearly superior. Like, I'm baffled; did anyone at Meta review these games on the headset before releasing the Quest 3 headset? Because I can tell you, when revisiting my vast library of games on the Quest 3, mostly all of them experience the same issue: the central view is excessively blurry, making it nearly impossible to engage in gameplay.
Additionally, the sharpness is limited to the outer edges, significantly impacting the overall experience, resulting in a massive headache. There's a noticeable gap in visual fidelity, performance, and overall gameplay immersion. The absence of optimization has been not only noticeable but disappointing, as it restricts the Quest 3's capability to deliver the expected quality we were promised. The disparity between the device's capability and the games' performance creates a disconnect for players looking forward to an enhanced experience on the latest hardware.
Quest-3 should have their own dedicated version on release, not a so-called quote-unquote enhancement. I sincerely hope developers swiftly address this issue by optimizing their games for the Quest 3. It's crucial for a seamless transition to the new platform, to allow users to fully enjoy the immense potential that the Quest 3 promises.
Moreover, the frustration is compounded by the hefty price tag of $697.13 for the Quest 3. My investment in this advanced hardware feels undermined by Meta. The evident gap in optimization from game developers makes my experience with the Q3 raise concerns about the value of the Quest 3 in its current stage. As an early adopter, the substantial cost for the Quest 3 is borderline criminal. To pay a premium price for cutting-edge technology only to find that the promised experience is hindered by the limited support from game developers and Meta themselves.
Furthermore, it seems like the release of the Meta Quest 3 was premature, considering the lack of game optimization across its extensive library. Controllers need improvements, as well as the headset's battery life, not to mention the color pass-through, also a few other things. A more prudent approach would have been delaying the launch until a significant portion of the existing game library was optimized and tailored to leverage the Quest 3's capabilities. Instead, users are now just left with a supposedly powerful device without the corresponding gaming experience it should deliver. It's clear that a more synchronized launch, aligning hardware and software readiness, would have significantly improved the user experience.
I remain skeptical that Meta will address these concerns promptly. It's simple: they don't care about us, their consumers/users who have made a considerable financial commitment to Meta. I mean, the gaming industry is a clear example of it. To date, Rockstar is worth $22.5 billion dollars, and the gaming industry as a whole pulled in $347 billion dollars in 2022 alone. We, the consumers, helped build these companies/studios, and at this point, all they do is leave us in the dark, all the while emptying out our bank accounts.
Which brings me to my next point, where is GTA-VR, Meta? There's always some shady tactic that you pull to draw people to your platform just to then not deliver, like the full body tracking fiasco at Facebook Connect or the fact that we still yet to see GTA-VR. Instead, we got Asgard's-Crap-2. The 1, 2 & 3 star reviews don't lie. I know, I've played it.
The days of corporate greed, monopolizing the industry, and shady tactics against your consumers to further fuel your greedy lust for our money at our expense, is over! Outright robbing us on a lie, is over! The world is waking up. It's ridiculous that the industry as a whole has been blinded by their own greed and self-interest, causing them to lose their grasp on humanity, most of which lives a luxurious & lavish life, better than most that purchase their games. Yet, it's never enough; they want more and more.
Pricing steadily goes up, yet production value and qualities go down. We're expected to take a broken game on release and wait for it to possibly be fixed via updates down the road, and we're supposed to just be okay with that? That's where we're at in the gaming industry today. Just like our government, gambling with our money. Make that make sense, you greedy leeches!
That's the equivalent of me taking money from a CEO of a major game studio to build his family a beautiful house, just to then stop halfway through under the guidelines that I might or might not ever finish it. And if the current studio consumer abuse trend is any indication on me finishing your house, I wouldn't hold your breath. So, I ask you, if that would happen in the real world, what would happen to me?
Taking your money and not finishing the project, aka your house, it's clearly rhetorical. I would be taken to court and sued for everything I'm worth, Right? You guys should be held to the same standard, just like the UK 7.9 billion-dollar lawsuit against Sony. The world is waking up...

Unfortunately never works for me simply because I have two accounts on the device. Never able to stream from the second account, just says an error occured. Hope it's fixed in the future :(

Is it possible to cast to an LG Oled TV? I've never managed it. Even casting to the mobile app only works about 25% of the time but at least the option for that exists.

Hey, my meta quest 3 has been glitching, whenever i join a game, it makes me set up the boundaries, but then after i do that a little menu pops up that says "Complete" Which is said to complete the boundaries and let me play my game, but then it just glitches and keeps repeating the same menu.
