The amount of videos I have watched regarding the difference between quest 2 and quest3, none of which have covered evert aspect until now. Thank you so much for this video. I play quest 2 just now, iv been looking to upgrade for a while but was never sure if its worth the money. Watching this video has made this choice alot easier. So thank you for the good work sir keep up the good work
I just got a Quest 3. It's amazing. I had an HTV Vive with the wireless adapter and Valve Index controllers. The Quest has blown me away with the resolution and wireless PC VR over wifi. I love the Quest "platform" that makes getting into social interaction fast and easy. No regrets at all. Love it.
Same, except I did not have the wireless adapter so I was still running the OG Vive with wires + index controllers. PC VR over wifi is definitely way better, and the pancake lenses + increased resolution are major game changers. It's finally getting close to feeling like what we originally imagined VR was going to be like.
@@prestenbogosavljevic4759 It's a huge upgrade over the Quest 1 at least. Much better image quality thanks to the higher resolution. The entire device is smaller and lighter and more comfortable to wear. The pass through is color and in many cases good enough to read some stuff off of phone screens (I used that in the setup process for example). And ofc it has more processing power than the Quest 1. Wireless PCVR also worked pretty good. I'm happy with the upgrade overall.
It's a huge upgrade from Quest 1. The only thing I miss about the Quest 1 is the black levels on the OLED screen. When OLED returns on the Quest then VR will truly take off.
I agree, it being pitch black made things a lot more terrifying in games like Saints and Sinners, on the Quest 2 while it is still pretty creepy, its a lot less creepy because of it not being fully blacked out
Have both ...Quest 3 clearly worth the upgrade. I was doubtful at first, but after owning it , i sold my psvr2 and just use my quest 3 for movies daily ... There are some games like Asgards Wrath and the obvious Red Matter 2 you can tell the difference ..Great fk headset
@cn9296 so primarily what I use it for ... For sure, more comfortable and fov is worth the slight upgrade. SCREEN RESOLUTION ...NOT SUPER DIFFERENT FOR more..But it's a better headset, especially if you play certain games on it ... If I had the choice again, I would still buy it ..But it depends on the financial situation ...not cheap if it's just for movies
@@jaysoegaard this is what i really want to know, is there a big difference in watching movies, brightness, sharpness! Because i dont care about pasthrough nor playing games.
@cn9296 Sharpness, in my opinion, no , but sharper because of lenses ... so your eyes can see more of the screen easier without vision distortion . FOV makes a difference ..
Great review between the 2 headsets as always very thorough, you touched on every single thing that's important imo. I'm coming from a Rift S/Quest 1 so Q3 is a huge upgrade for me so I didn't need any convincing but your comparison was very reassuring. Is corny to say this but you've become one of my favorite VR/tech TH-camrs. 👍
To me one of the reasons to get a Quest3 was the passthrough. Color and with depth, but besides that, why I like the Quest3 better are the loudspeakers. With the Quest2 I couldn't play a game (especially Beatsaber) without earplugs. But with the Quest3 I don't need them. Also PCVR gaming is much better with a Quest3 than with the Quest2. I have a 64gb Quest2, and decided to buy the 512gb Quest3. And that's never too much capacity. Also the smaller controllers are much better than those clunky big Quest2 controllers. To me all these were enough reasons to upgrade.
@@PetKingdom-wl8me That's then probably in your case. It's far from perfect, but a lot better than the Quest2 or Pico4 and I have not much distortion. To me it is useful.
@@PetKingdom-wl8meNo way in heck its trash. You want to see trash passthrough? Try putting on my original 2016 release Vive. After upgrading from that to the Quest 3, it is literally game changing. I can actually use VR while walking around and doing activities and chores irl around my house. Quest 2 is also pretty far from usable for everyday life passthrough. Apple might be the best game in town right now, but the Quest 3 has functional colour passthrough for an affordable price. That is heckin awesome.
Indeed when my q3 went to get repaired and I used my q2 I was like this thing was so good back in the day and when I went back I was like how this thing is horrible
That stabilization is actually done by the headset as I was recording. As you may know, it's one of the recording options in the Quests settings. When not recording directly to the headset I'll record PCVR gameplay using Oculus mirror which also has stabilization that way I don't have to do anything in post. The stabilization is done right then and there as I'm recording. I feel it makes VR footage more comfortable for people to watch. I never realized how much we move our heads around until I watched VR or POV footage with no stabilization. It's pretty crazy how shaky it is. But as an editor I imagine you're already very familiar. 😅
I paid nearly $700 to play walkabout mini golf on an upgraded headset and im not mad about it. Its honestly the best game ive play and probably put over 500 hours into it
Honestly pal I'm not hating at all. Different strokes and all that. But what makes walkabout mini golf the best game you have ever played? I see people say that all the time and I just don't understand it? It's just mini golf? It's a glorified tech demo saying hey you can use this thing to golf. Like I could understand someone that is into golfing playing something like golf+ because it has real life courses and full on physics, but mini golf? Have you not played anything else on the quest store? There are so many games with so much more substance than that. But like I said different strokes I guess.
@@codyholbrooks4875if what they said isn’t an ad idk what they’re up to on vr but I’d say most of us just cling to feels right for us and I guess golf scratches the itch for this person but most of us are similar to me(I may be wrong about that) but we just bounce around between games but always have our concrete games like walkabout golf for this person but for me,ghosts of tabor, but in the end I bet we both just go through our libraries
@@codyholbrooks4875 I'll answer that. Walkabout is one of those rare games that makes me feel like I'm on holiday. No other game I've played does such a good job of it. The devs have done a great job creating the right atmosphere in this game. They understand VR better than other devs do. How much do you pay for a round of real mini golf? Walkabout is better than playing real mini golf imo. I've played golf+. It's good but the graphics let it down compared to walkabout Mini golf. I would rather play real golf than golf+ tbh. Finally, look at the rating of Walkabout in the Meta store and read the reviews there if you need more convincing. It is one of the highest rated VR games ever made.
Ohh cool, wanted to check this out as soon as you told me it was on the to do list. Although we have both, I am really interested in your thoughts, especially on the controllers and ofc the price drops. As usual very informative and up to your high standards!
Thanks for checking the video out J. I appreciate your feedback. I didn't go in depth on the controllers, I know Si pays really close attention to that, and understandably so, it's what he does for a living, but this video was more a high level overview highlighting the main differences between the Q3 and Q2 to hopefully help people wondering if the 3 is worth the rather significant price increase.
@Maraksot78 yeah ofc and it was very nicely explained. It is amazing how far they have come since I first used the dk1 and was sick for the rest of the night after 5 mins.
@jinxed13 My first VR experience was the Virtual Boy in the 90s. I just tried out a demo of it at Toys R Us or some place, but the tech was far from ready for prime time. The Virtual Boy left A LOT to be desired. It wasn't until a good 20 years later in 2016 that I got my first taste of more modern VR with the HTC Vive. I wanted to buy one then but I couldn't justify the cost at the time. Not to mention, I didn't have a good enough PC for VR then either. When the Quest 2 came along for only $300 and was getting very positive reviews as both a stand alone and PC VR headset that's when I finally bought my first VR headset. Pretty quickly after that I bought a Kobra Elite stock on eBay, made a video about it, and then met you and Si. So it was a good choice. 😁
Now, I expecting same comparison Q3 with Apple VPro mostly in Passthrough modes and Games availability. Nice talking here and thank you for your opinions. I used Q2 but soon after Q3 became "tested" , got one. Now, after numerous updates, just love to use my Quest 3 and TH-cam VR visual quality exceed my expectations.
Yeah quest 3 is superior when paired with quest game optimizer app. It’s far more costly if you get the 512gb models plus prescription lenses (if you wear glasses), plus elite strap with battery, plus any charging dock. Used to be able to get 25% off on games now it’s only 15% max. The hefty discount is what pulled me from getting a psvr instead. The wireless freedom with option to connect for cloud or local pcvr with virtual desktop is the extra bonus. HTC vive pro 2 can cost you well over $1300 for similar features.
Great video! I've been looking at an upgrade from an OG vive for something easier to just pickup and play to be a bit more active in games again and an option of cableless play. So many videos have just broken down a spec sheet from what I could find, and this gives an actual idea of the like for like usage I've been looking for! ❤
Good video. I'm looking at VR again and torn as Quest 2 can be picked up for under £200 at the moment but Mixed Reality & better resolutions etc along with free Asgards Wrath II makes me keen for Quest 3
You must not have comprehended much from the review smh. Mixed reality is the only feature that’s worth it. The better resolution only works with apps that have been modified for quest 3 and that’s like 5 games out of thousands. Not worth it. If you’re worried about it coming with a free game you financially shouldn’t be buying either. You can’t afford it. Hope this helps you think a bit more clearly.
i started with a oculus rift couple years back and loved it, sold it after moving half way across the globe and now i yust ordered a new quest 2 for 250 bucks... looking forward to gettting in vr again, already got loads of games like VTOL VR
Great video. I'm wondering if the quest 3 has a smoother display as far as whites not streaking? I find that with the quest two white content will streak if your not looking directly at it, also the edges around the sweet spot kinda look blurry.
That streaking and blurriness you're describing on the Quest 2 is due to the fresnel lenses in the Quest 2. The pancake lenses on the Quest 3 are WAY nicer. The sweet spot is bigger, and since you don't have the rings in the lenses, you don't get that streaking you're talking about.
The quest 3 is worth it for the lenses it self with the quest 2 when your looking from left to right with your eyes or anywhere that would be a peripheral looking forward gets blury and weird looking the lenses and that extra res bump is amazing being able to see clearly playing games like ghosts tabor or contracts can put you at such bad disadvantage and it just is alot better on the eyes if you get moton sickness playing any fast passed game it causes less disorientation
@@jom7538 so which one should I get because I’m still trying to figure out what to get because this is my first VR headset and I’m not really sure if I should get the newer one or the old one please help me out my options are request 2 or 3 and yes I do plan on using all the features of it, including the mic
I got the quest 1 the day it came out. Upgraded to quest 3 today, if we’re on a quest 1 until now, do the swap . I never upgraded to quest 2 but this was a necessary upgrade
I dont have a vr headset or like anything but i would rather buy the quest 2 cus i am i bit small and am not rich so ye 😅❤❤❤ Good job on the video it was actually 20 mins which is pretty hard to do ❤❤❤❤🎉
I have the quest 1, and I am wanting to get a new quest, but I am gun shy because when I bought my quest 1, the 2 came out like 2 months later. I wish I would have waited.
I own a Quest 2. Watching movies and or TH-cam inside the “Big Screen” app looks great. Moving forward… We all know that the Quest 3 provides an improved visual experience, but is this limited to only new content that is updated and/or created for the Quest 3. Has anyone purchased/used pre-existing apps such as (Brinks Traveler, Jurassic World, Star Wars Pinball and/or Spheres)? Are the visuals within these app much clearer and sharper?
I appreciate the video it tells me a lot. If I'm connecting to my pc for my flight simulator, but no rush. I haven't even turned it on. My only other vr is a PlayStation vr, so this will be a step up. Slainte 👍
Thanks for the news about the carry case. I bought one straight away. I still use my Oculus go. I keep it in the bedroom (not for that!🤨) :_secret: I use it to watch TH-cam when I wake up in the night. I find it is much less jarring on my eyes than the TV. I think transcranial magnetic stuff will be the way in the future. Much more than haptic vests and stuff but maybe not quite now. Maybe wait a bit and see if anyone gets lobotomized?
Got a used Q2 and enjoy the heck out of it when I can. I do want a Q3 and can't wait to save up for one! 20 million Q2's is impressive. I will get a Q3 when I can.
It depends on you man. It depends on how much time you spend in VR and if the price you pay for a Quest 3 is worth it to you or not. I personally have never used a Rift S, but I have talked to people that have gone from the Rift S to a Quest 3 and they've said the difference it massive and the Quest 3 is a big step up.
I don't know if you know, but Meta is launching the Quest 3s in 5 days. The 128GB version is going to cost $299.99 and there will also be a 256GB version for $399.99. Meta has discontinued the 128GB Quest 3 and lowered the price of the 512GB Quest 3 to $499.99. The Quest 3s is essentially the replacement for the Quest 2. It uses the same LCD screen, lenses and IPD adjustment as the Quest 2 but has the color pass-through and the same XR2 Gen 2 processor of the Quest 3. I have a 3s on pre-order right now and plan to review it in the coming weeks. There is already a lot of information about it out there though if you look for it.
@@Soulflowz If it's your first time with VR then the quest 2 is around 130$ and it's a pretty good option👍 but if your like me and really want that extra bump in quality then grab the 3😋 but be warned, the facial mechanism that objust for your eyes is pretty easy to break if you decide to switch out the headband with a kiwi band
I don't have the hot swappable battery pack for the Quest 3. The one I have is from BinBok VR for the Quest 2, however they do sell one for the Quest 3 now too. Here's a link to it on Amazon if you'd like to take a look at it. amzn.to/4abogav Full disclosure; I am an Amazon Affiliate so if you end up using this link, Amazon pays me a small commission for sending business their way. The money I earn however, I do use to continue making content on TH-cam. So by using my link you're helping the channel, which I am very grateful for. Thanks. :D
The 2 questions I have to determine what I want to buy are: Can I connect the quest 2 to my ps5 to play games like FNAF Help Wanted without it going blurry? Can you watch youtube in mixed reality on the quest 2? Thanks
I have watched a number of your reviews to the point where it has got me excited in using VR again ! I purchased my first VR headset in 2020 when the Quest 2 was first released. I experience heaps of problems in the setup and was so disheartened I just put it back in the box and forgot about it.😢 The enthusiasm for VR and the Quest 2 has returned, and I wish to thank you for that !!! Your inspiration and simplicity of explanation is greatly appreciated and look forward to you next VR related blog. Rgds duffman
I just bought a Quest 2 because VR is still fairly niche but there are some games I definitely want to check out! So $200 instead of $500 for someone new in the VR space is a freaking steal in my opinion. I really just wanted to do PCVR so bought a link cable and so far so good.
I’m new to vr too is the quest worth it or should I spend the extra £300 for the quest 3? I’m also thinking about doing pc vr, is the quest 2 good for that?
@@mrwillmoiif you want to have a better PCVR experience on a standalone headset the q3 is good for that and even without pcvr it can perform as well as a q2 pcvr, I recommend quest 3 but if money is tight the quest 2 is a great option.
Nice job of comparison, I have had my Q2 for a few years now and will wait a while to upgrade. I would welcome the higher Res but the mic problem is off-putting. Wait till they fix that
@@draydarockstar362 did you figure out which one will make a better choice for us very beginners Quest 2 or 3? Not sure if the difference worth double price.
im thinking of buying a quest 3 exclusively for Vrchat but I will also need full body trackers so I'd like to ask what are some cheaper trackers for quest 3?
If i run the quest off of my computer can it use its resources to increase resolution or is it just limited to the standard resolution for typical quest installed games. Like lets say i play beat saber installed on the quest. It runs pretty well. Its resolution is decent. If i put it on my pc. It will obviously run better but will it look better?
My quest 3 has some very noticeable lens glare in the right lighting conditions that I feel is not being talked about enough. From what I can tell, it is an artifact of the multi layer pancake style of lenses. If you have a bright image with dark areas, you will likely see some light being bounced between lens layers and creating a glare or light bleed into the darker parts of the image. I accept that there are More premium VR headsets available at higher price points than my quest 3 and the pancake lenses although not perfect, still allow for a lower profile optical stack and goggle assembly. …but I really feel strongly that this issue isn’t being discussed by consumers or acknowledged by Meta.
I saw a review where someone mentioned this and even explained with a graph why it happens and yeah it has to do with the way the lenses are arranged, either way it's not that bad, if you've used headsets in the past you would know that glare and godrays have always been part of the experience and it was way worse with fresnel lenses, in fact pretty much everything was worse. There are no "premium headsets" with better optics than the Quest 3 right now, yeah there are some with higher resolution and OLED panels but they will still exhibit the same glare, and new ones no matter the price will use pancake lenses as fresnel is outdated and frankly it was always bad and almost unusable, so for the foreseeable future it will continue to be a problem, probably until a new generation or iteration of lenses comes out. Btw even the Apple Vision Pro suffers from this phenomenon so it's not just on Meta, it's a quirk of the technology, remember this is basically the first generation of these lenses after all, it will hopefully get better with time but they're a huge step up from fresnel that's for sure.
I thought quest link and air link were the same thing! Is air link better then quest link? I think we're going to need a video on that next lol. I've been thinking of upgrading to a quest 3 a lot lately and after watching this I'm going to upgrade in a couple months. Thanks Maraksot!
Welp it's the same thing, Airlink is just wireless and Link is wired, but both use the exact same compressed stream method so the only difference is latency and battery life (since wired to a PC still drains the battery but significantly slower, specially if wifi is turned off on the headset)
@@MooshPaw Using oculus debug tool you can increase the wired link to much higher bitrate. Only wired Link you can really push the bitrate to something like 940 bitrate. Even wifi 6e you will have issues going to bitrates that high. Me personally I use virtual desktop for wireless (500 bitrate) and then link for wired (940bitrate) with a Quest 3
This video is amazing, thank you Maraksot78, it so helped me make my mind up to go for the 3. You answered the question I had asked, in so many different ways on TH-cam but never got a straight answer. Will all my games just transfer over automatically to the 3. And yes, you said, they will. Great 👍
My answer is definitely QUEST 3!!! Quest 3 has a better faster processor, better lenses, Wider sweet spt, and great graphics qualities, and other items. The Quest 3 costs more, but for me for my first wireless headset and watching many "You Tube" videos, I now own a Quest 3. Right now I have the Quest 3 connected via a link cable to play SIM racing games. Most of my games are sitting down games. The Quest 3 is better than my Rift S and performs the way I expected to do. The Quest 2 is a good VR headset, but I wanted something more. Bye!
for someone who is wanting to get into vr via meta what do you suggest? getting a quest 2, which at the current moment of me typing this comment most stores are saying meta is no longer making them and sending them out so i would most likely have to buy used; or just save a little longer and buy brand new quest 3?
Take it from a guy who bought the CV1, then the Rift S, then the quest 2...and now the quest 3...this latest puppy is THE biggest upgrade of them all...the LENSES alone makes it worth it.
And the FOV. i just bought a 2nd hand Quest 2 which I am pleased with. However there is no denying that someone who wants better quality overall should go for the better headset available within reason - higher quality headsets are available but the price starts to climb radically & are less versatile as the Quest headsets.
NICE REVIEW....But got a question. Having a quest2 already setup for pc vr, Can you setup the quest3 for pc vr aswell or will the quest3 overwrite the quest2 settings and setup ?
Do you think that the standard controllers on the quest 3 are good enough. Or should we upgrade to the quest pro controllers? Here in Australia just the standard quest 3 is 800 or something and the 512 version is 1200 😞 would love some advice on what to do and what quest 3 should I get. Thanks. I’m probably gonna use the wireless thing that lets ya play steam VR games. Cos I have 50 or more VR games on pc cos I used to play Vive on that.
Probably the lighting conditions. It will suffer if the light is poor or in bright light as the camera has to adjust to compensate. Think of it like the TV camera at a sport event, suddenly the bright or low light is there & it has to adjust or if manually it just as a bloomed out or dark grainy image. I would look at the passthrough as a general use feature & not really to be used constanly to do any work, you can on the quest 3 but it isn't going to be an actual solution & you need a good light environment.
And in pcvr (mustly using oculus link cable) the requirements for a PC using quest 3 are more demaning than for a quest 2? Or if I move decently the quest 2 then quest 3 will be also well usable? Or in other words, an upgrade from.quest 2 to quest 3 require also any update in the PC harware? Thanks a lot !!
I need to wear reading glasses. Will I be able to Wear my reading glasses With either headset? Or can you adjust the lenses for your vision like binoculars?
Depending on your vision, you may or may not need to wear your glasses when using either headset. My daughter has pretty poor vision and has to wear glasses all the time, but doesn't need them when playing VR. Other people I know however need their glasses for VR to be able to see clearly. For people who need their glasses there are companies that make insert lenses like VR Rock and VR Wave to your prescription but they do of course cost you extra. Like I talk about in the video, the Quest 2 comes with a glasses spacer which attaches to the facial interface and gives you a little extra space between the headset lenses and your eyes giving you space to wear your glasses and the Quest 3 has a spacing mechanism built in to the interface to achieve the same thing.
One of the only things that stop me from upgrading from my 2 to a 3 is the lack of charging while using the quest link cable. I also prefer a headset and I haven't seen a speaker setup for the 3,currently I am using the franken quest setup.
I have sold my quest 2 before quest 3 came out. I loved it but I did not have enough time to play anymore. Since, I did not checked any VR related videos/reviews until today. I am very surprised to see that VR gaming basically stacked . It seems like it can't move forward due the huge success of Quest 2. As you said it doesn't worth for developers to make exclusives or even to update games for quest 3. Don't get me wrong there are some very , very fun games starting from simple like 11 table tennis to more complex simulations like Contractors. It's just most of these games from your list were already out before quest 3 came out.
I just retired from my job and been looking at getting into VR. I'm looking for a more relaxing experience. After watching your video I think I'll save the extra $300 and get the Quest 2.
I am someone that's on a budget and want to try VR, but due to the budget limitation I can either get a VR headset, quest 2 or 3. a gaming PC (way more expensinve) or a ps5. I don't have any gaming device right now and have little time to spend gaming anyway. What would be your choice if you were in this situation ? (Of course based on your preferences, I understand you're not lisan al ghaib to know my preferences x) )
Based on what you've said here... You said you're on a budget and want to try VR, soooo... I'm going to assume you've never tried it before? If that is the case and you don't know anyone, i.e. a friend or family member who has a Quest headset for example, I would first try to find a place where you can demo a VR headset so you can get a taste of it and see if you feel like spending the money on a headset of your own is going to be worth it or not. If that's not possible and you need to buy something yourself to give it a try, I would start with the Quest 2. It's currently very inexpensive compared to all other options and provides a very good VR experience and will let you get a good taste of VR and help you decide if it's worth it to you or not to spend more money on a Quest 3 and/or if you want to take the next step into PC VR or not. I wouldn't even think about buying a gaming PC or a PS5/PSVR2 combo for someone just getting into VR. I would try out the Quest 2 for awhile, see what you think of it and then go from there. Just FYI; when you first start using VR, when playing games that use artificial locomotion (meaning you walk around the game world using a joystick) you will most likely experience some motion sickness. There are some lucky people who do not suffer from this ever but I believe the majority of people do. There's something about our eyes seeing motion and our bodies not feeling it that triggers something in our brains and we become uncomfortable and it can trigger motion sickness. I am one of those people who got sick playing VR when I first got into it. It took me several weeks of playing VR a little each day to get used to. If you slowly acclimate yourself to VR it is a lot of fun, but when you start to get a headache from it or feel sick then you want to stop right then and there. If you try and power through (which is something I did try and do not recommend) you only end up feeling worse. I found playing games where you're stationary is the best way to start out. Games like Beat Saber, Job Simulator and Demeo are good ones for this. You stay in one place all the time and don't need to move around all that much. There's only so much of games like that you can take however before you want to try other experiences. Once I was comfortable with those kinds of games I moved on to games that had a good set of comfort options that allow you play in different ways and allow you to slowly build up your "VR legs" (it's like a sailor getting their "sea legs" but for VR instead). I played Resident Evil 4 and Red Matter 2 which both allow you the option to teleport to get around which I know sounds like it would be weird, but it's MUCH more comfortable for people who are new to VR than smooth locomotion. Slowly over time I would try using smooth locomotion along with the blinders which some games have in their settings. Blinders is a setting where your peripheral vision gets blocked as you move. When standing still you see the entire image as you look around but when you press the joystick to start moving in a certain direction your field of view narrows and kinda looks like you're in a dark tunnel and you just see what's out in front of you. This is supposed to help with motion sickness as you get less of that sensation of motion because you don't see the stuff in your periphery moving, and only see what's in front of you. Personaly I didn't like the blinder settings. Using it felt weird and unnatural to me, so I only used it briefly to see if it would help but in the end turned it off. For awhile I switched back and forth from using smooth locomotion to teleporting and over time I could handle the smooth locomotion for longer and longer periods of time until I reached the point where now smooth locomotion no longer bothers me and I can play shooters like Contractors as well as other games where you need to use smooth locomotion without a problem. I share this because I want you to have a positive experience with VR and also understand that if you are someone who ends up experiencing VR motion sickness that it is something you can acclimate to, just like a sailor gets their sea legs, you can get your VR legs if you put in the time. I've met people who've tried VR once before and say they don't like VR because it made them feel motion sick and they're unwilling to even try a game like Beat Saber because they're afraid it's going to make them sick. That makes me feel a little sad for them because I feel they're missing out on something they may actually find really cool and enjoy. I love VR and want everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy it too.
Honestly I prefer the Quest 3 just due to the wireless link over Virtual Desktop. If you don’t mind the wire to your PC, I think the index is still pretty great for PCVR
I'm saying this as someone who owns a quest 1,2 and 3 I would keep your index for a little longer. There is a rumored upcoming Valve headset you may want to purchase. I have a PC and use PC VR I have just been in the quest ecosystem a while and like what it offers but if you like steams VR eco system more then I'm sure their upcoming headset will be something you will enjoy more than a quest.

Hah, I just upgraded from Quest 1 to 3 last week. Didn't even know about the integrated glasses spacer yet 😂
Lol same 😂
Is it a big upgrade?
Are watching movies really better on 3 over 2 ?!
FOV makes a difference ..
what is must buy 1st upgrade you need to do on 3 ? the new headstrap or what is it called? thx
Exactly 💯 👍
Passthrough is trash on the 3 though. It's literally the 2 with color! Except the 2 do not warp as much as the 3, it's mad annoying!
@@PetKingdom-wl8me That's then probably in your case. It's far from perfect, but a lot better than the Quest2 or Pico4 and I have not much distortion. To me it is useful.
@@PetKingdom-wl8me The 2 warps just as much if not more than the 3, you just notice it a lot less in black & white.
I hate the speakers on Quest 3. The bass is massively overblown and the mids are drowned out as a result. It's the worst thing about the quest 3 imo.
I’ve had the q2 for 3 years and I just updated to the q3 and the difference is insane
Indeed when my q3 went to get repaired and I used my q2 I was like this thing was so good back in the day and when I went back I was like how this thing is horrible
So it's really that much of a difference? I own a quest 2 for about 3 years or whenever they first came out
As an editor, I caught the stabilization done in the pass through demo.
Just wanted to feel cool by noticing it.
Good video 🍻
Don’t ask me why but I’ve spent well over 5000 hours on blade and sorcery nomad…
You paid 1.2 dollars per hour, sounds like a good deal to me
Just about to buy my quest 3! Thanks for such a good and solid review!
I really want one but im broke
@@Carguyz5 same 🥲
This entire review just detailed how the quest 3 is dogshit for the money. Literally 0 point in upgrading.
@whycars7898 I got it and it works great. Higher resolution then my freind q2, can run games at higher texture resolution. IMHO it was worth it
@@whycars7898minority opinion
This is an excellent comparison vid + buyer guide, thank you =)
My Quest 3 will be coming this Christmas, order has already been placed!
Apple's headset is not aimed at gamers, it's mostly a "productivity tool" for Apple.
@@GoldSrc_ its a dev kit
Excellent review ! But I'm still unsure which one is the best to buy 😢. Do you think the memory is worth thinking about?
@@whycars7898 fully comprehended the video, and did buy a Quest 3 which do very much like MR on it along with future proofing for titles like Batman.

i started with a oculus rift couple years back and loved it, sold it after moving half way across the globe and now i yust ordered a new quest 2 for 250 bucks... looking forward to gettting in vr again, already got loads of games like VTOL VR
@Maraksot78 awe okay that's great to know, thanks you.
Thank you so much. I am going to buy my first vr head set. This video really helped me make up my mind
The htc vive that I had for over 7 years had an adjustment knob in a similar location. The quest 2 honestly should have had one.
I'm buying quest 3 this summer!
Thanks man. You helped me make my mind up on if I'm gonna upgrade. Subscribing.

I own a Quest 2. Watching movies and or TH-cam inside the “Big Screen” app looks great. Moving forward…
We all know that the Quest 3 provides an improved visual experience, but is this limited to only new content that is updated and/or created for the Quest 3.
Why get Q3 for AR when my 3DS already has that
You made me get a VR thank you❤
Got a used Q2 and enjoy the heck out of it when I can. I do want a Q3 and can't wait to save up for one! 20 million Q2's is impressive. I will get a Q3 when I can.
Nice video, I have one question, I have a mac can I still connect to steam and play halflife alyx?
I bought my rift S over 5 years ago, is it time to upgrade?
It depends on you man. It depends on how much time you spend in VR and if the price you pay for a Quest 3 is worth it to you or not. I personally have never used a Rift S, but I have talked to people that have gone from the Rift S to a Quest 3 and they've said the difference it massive and the Quest 3 is a big step up.
Thanks this really helped me decide

Hello is there a lag when you move your hand and in the game?
im thinking of buying a quest 3 exclusively for Vrchat but I will also need full body trackers so I'd like to ask what are some cheaper trackers for quest 3?
If i run the quest off of my computer can it use its resources to increase resolution or is it just limited to the standard resolution for typical quest installed games.
Like lets say i play beat saber installed on the quest. It runs pretty well. Its resolution is decent.
If i put it on my pc. It will obviously run better but will it look better?
which shoud I buy as a first headset
There is a little glare but it's nowhere near as bad as it is on the Bigscreen Beyond or even on the Apple Vision Pro.
Bye!
I saw an XBox app, if I play a blue ray on the XBox can I watch it thru the googles ?
for someone who is wanting to get into vr via meta what do you suggest? getting a quest 2, which at the current moment of me typing this comment most stores are saying meta is no longer making them and sending them out so i would most likely have to buy used; or just save a little longer and buy brand new quest 3?
Wait for the Quest 3s at ~$300 depending on storage level, think it'll release around October ish
1: more softer headstrap 2: its more powerful than the quest pro, yes, that's actually true 3: the cameras are RGB.
Love your vids dude
Thx for the info. I've been using my quest 2 for about a year now. I would like to upgrade, but I think Im gonna wait for a price drop on the quest 3
Helpful video. Not really a gamer but thinking about using VR for RealFlight and MS flight sim.
NICE REVIEW....But got a question. Having a quest2 already setup for pc vr, Can you setup the quest3 for pc vr aswell or will the quest3 overwrite the quest2 settings and setup ?
As far as settings in the Oculus PC app go, it adds the Quest 3 as another headset, so you'll have your Quest 2 and Quest 3 as individual headsets.
I try to use pass through on my quest 3 and it sucks when looking at my phone and computer screen. It's not clear and un usable. Why?
Probably the lighting conditions. It will suffer if the light is poor or in bright light as the camera has to adjust to compensate. Think of it like the TV camera at a sport event, suddenly the bright or low light is there & it has to adjust or if manually it just as a bloomed out or dark grainy image. I would look at the passthrough as a general use feature & not really to be used constanly to do any work, you can on the quest 3 but it isn't going to be an actual solution & you need a good light environment.
Maybe the camera is creating artifacts because it’s looking at another screen
I bought prescription lenses from Zenni Optical. They attack to the Quest lenses. They are amazing. Cost only 50.00
20 minutes is a 'LOOOONG' video?
I blame tiktok.
Good content.
One of the only things that stop me from upgrading from my 2 to a 3 is the lack of charging while using the quest link cable. I also prefer a headset and I haven't seen a speaker setup for the 3,currently I am using the franken quest setup.
The loudspeakers of the Quest3 are much louder than those of the Quest2 and for me good enough to not need an extra headphone or earplugs.
Good choice. You’re one of the few smart people in the comments who realize the quest 3 is basically a scam.
Be aware, they will be phasing out the Quest 2 in favor of the Quest 3S….u may want to rethink that purchase
I am hoping to get a quest 2 somehow lol is it worth it?
You didn’t really go over how good the tracking is with controllers. Also wondering if one has better quest link capabilities or farther distance
Can you give us the link to the swappable battery pack head set for the quest 2
@@Maraksot78i have never seen somebody type this much ever
Thanks! Watched it all!
Should I keep my index or get the quest 3
Honestly I prefer the Quest 3 just due to the wireless link over Virtual Desktop. If you don’t mind the wire to your PC, I think the index is still pretty great for PCVR
I'm saying this as someone who owns a quest 1,2 and 3 I would keep your index for a little longer. There is a rumored upcoming Valve headset you may want to purchase. I have a PC and use PC VR I have just been in the quest ecosystem a while and like what it offers but if you like steams VR eco system more then I'm sure their upcoming headset will be something you will enjoy more than a quest.
Quest 3 unless you like looking through a screen door.
