    Try a coffee press (aka French press) to squeeze the gel from the seeds. That's what I use. Simple and no messy stockings.

    TFS I just strain mine with a regular kitchen strainer but it has to be hot or it won't go through. For me I don't have time to do that stocking strain thing...😂😂😂😂

    If you use water you should also use a preservative. Please note, Vitamin E is NOT a preservative.

      Anything water based- use a perseverative. And to answer the person above's answer: Geogard ECT works well on persevering substances containing film forming humectants (aka plant gels)

    I would just pour everything in your white bowl. Get a metal strainer and strain flaxseed gel and marshmallow concoction into your bowl. Adding everything else into bowl. Then id use the jar.

    Loved this video cuz i make a plain flaxseed gel boiled in aloe juice. I bring my flaxseed to a boil and soon as i see the gel forming i turn it off and let it sit for 30-45min, this way you dont worry about burning yourself and can really go in on squeezing all the good stuff out. I am mos sedinetly gonna try this infused version. Cant wait to try it, THANKS so much for sharing 😊

    You can strain it with a stocking cold. It's way easier to squeeze it all out!

    This was a very nice video, but I wouldn’t recommend keeping this finished product for more than 4-6 weeks without a preservative, even refrigerated.

  • @itslaquesha

    This is a great recipe, does it really last 6 months in the fridge? Other recipes say only 2-3 weeks (but I noticed that they only use flaxseed, and other essential oils) does the addition of the marshmallow root make it last longer. I would like to make this but feel it would go to waste as I wouldn't use it every day.
    Thank you!

    Looks great!! Excited to try this recipe. Wondering why you don't use a 3" mesh strainer instead of knee highs?? I think it'd be a lot easier using a strainer.😉

    The problem I have with flax gel is that it flakes horribly when it dries on my hair. It a fine, dusty flake that covers my shoulders. Other than that, it's great for definition, but the flaking is a deal-breaker. Doesn't your home-made flax gel flake?

    • @created2worshipGOD
      @created2worshipGOD 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      xy11xy Try adding oil(s)

    • @xy11xy
      @xy11xy 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, I've done that and what I wind up with is greasy flakes! They cling to the hair and look like greasy dandruff!

    • @VyalaBloom
      @VyalaBloom 6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I had that problem too! it was really annoying... what I did to get rid of the flaking was to add about a teaspoon of olive oil or coconut oil to my pot of flaxseed while it was boiling. and I put a leave in conditioner on my hair (and sometimes oil, but that's optional) before applying the flaxseed gel.
      Adding a small amount of honey (like 1/4 of a teaspoon) to my boiling pot of flaxseed also helped with the flakes, but don't add too much because it might make your hair really hard.
      try that out? if you do let me know how it worked for you!

    • @locsbyholiday2231
      @locsbyholiday2231 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Ann Myst Everything u said, except I also add fresh lemon juice. I don't have any flaking anymore.

      You could try a little Castor Oil mixed with A thinner oil basically do the Loc method and then apply the flaxseed Gel after your leave in and oils of your choice.

      Thanks for watching! I hope it works for you as well as it did for me! I find applying the pressure through a more flexible material (nylons vs muslin cloth) works better for consistencies like this ;)

    I tried this method with the root only but i used too much water and didn’t get any thick consistency. It looks more like a tea now. Does it have any benefits still? I was going to mix it with aloe Vera and other proteins. Or is it best to just throw it out?

    How long did you keep the product?
    I made some and it went rancid very quickly. Less than a week. But it also wasn't refrigerated. I left it under the bathroom vanity.. yeah, not a smart move on my part.🤓
    I'll have to consider adding a REAL preservative. Vitamin E and essential oils are antioxidants, NOT preservatives.

    • @ulala04
      @ulala04  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      sorry for the late response! but yea mos def you have to refrigerate or add some kind of preservative (Optiphen is not so bad)

    • @VyalaBloom
      @VyalaBloom 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah if you keep it in the refrigerator it wont start to go rancid for at least 2 weeks (and sometimes I'll use it up to 3 weeks). and if I add tea tree essential oil I can keep it for up to a week longer.

    • @ulala04

      I leave it on! It is very conditioning for your hair (and your hands when making it!) - this recipe is designed for more of a holding and defining effect i.e. holding and defining curls that won't get frizzy throughout the day

    • @ulala04
      @ulala04  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Rachel, Marshmallow root is a wonderful demulcent (relieving irritation and inflammation) herb that has a gelatinous feel (when boiled!) hence why I add it to this concoction!
