There's an issue with Fire Emblem's inclusion on this list. See, the Western release seems to have taken some liberties with their translation of the game, either deliberately or accidentally. In Bernadetta's case, the lines removed were added by the translation team and the changes take it back to what was actually said. That line was likely chosen because it could be fixed with editing, rather than having to call in the VAs to rerecord it. Because...there's a lot of lines like these apparently.

Blizzard censors artwork in a way that appeases Chinese regulations. Denies it's to cater to international markets. Calls it "improving the artwork." Later bans a player for speaking out against the Chinese government. Don't know about you, but for some reason I doubt the credulity of Blizzard's statement regarding the altered artwork.
Changing that Fire Emblem line to just "he'd do things like tie me to a chair" with no elaboration makes it way worse in my opinion. Like, in the context of years of abuse that leaves way too much to the imagination without the clarifying text that they removed and makes it seem like a lot of really awful stuff (not to say it isn't already awful, it is)
Honestly, first thing that came to mind was that her dad was some BDSM freak, involving rape. I'm glad that it didn't go there, it is, after all, a Nintendo-licensed game, so my mind going that far, might just be the result of seeing things like that in other media. So yeah, it's way worse after they changed it., leaving shit like that to the imagination is never good.
@@Slaraffus2750 yeah exactly. Like, we all have internet access now and we've all heard some of the most fucked up stories that actually happened, like what the fuck was Nintendo thinking?

This comment needs a gold star and they really should patch that out of every game that you already pay for since it’s an instant no-buy due to the offensive nature of it 🤨
The change to Bernadetta's line actually makes me sad. Her original line really drives home what sort of terrible upbringing she had, and solidified my hatred of her father. It explained why she was the way she was, and really made me empathize with her.
they kinda made it sound worse, because like, an abusive father figure tying his daughter to a chair sounds like the start of an incest situation But there was nothing sexual about it. It was about psychological torture, a pretty damn horrifying subject that's often not discussed, and they kinda... just... welp.
It’s both psychological but also starts to get painful after a while to sit for that long. Especially since well... toilet matters... but even the sitting for that long starts to hurt before it eventually gets numb
I refer to it as the "Shadow Realm Treatment". Trying to censor something, sometimes by making it more vague, but accidentally implying worse. Shadow Realm censored death. Passing away and your soul eventually reincarnating? No, too scary for the audience. We'll just create an eternal hellscape from which there's no return unless associated with the protagonist. No reincarnation, just torment 24/7

What often gripes me is most of these “censors” come after some neglectful soccer parent buys their kid a game not rated for their age then gets offended and starts ranting online about how the game ruined their “precious angels” innocence getting the game censored, even when a lot of us know for a fact they read the age rating description but still got the game for their kid anyway
You know that game Madworld? The black, white, and RED all over M rated game? I almost got that game as a kid for Christmas when I was like 12 or 13 or whatever age I might've been when that game came out. I had to tell my mom that the game was M rated and that she probably shouldn't get it for me. @@espurrseyes42 It’s sort of sad when you think about it a lot of parents don’t look at game rating systems and usually automatically assume “it’s a video game so it must be for kids” I feel this is the main line of thought for most of these soccer moms/dads when they get their kids video games having been in and out of my fair share of local game stores I have seen my fair share of parents getting M to MA18+ rated games for their kids and not looking at labels half the time it’s not always the parents fault and sometimes the kids pester their parent so much that they get it but more often then not the parent is mostly at fault as they don’t normally read the rating before buying or they see the rating and buy it anyway cause “it’s a videogame so it’s for kids” Sorry about rambling on so much so I’ll end this reply right about here for now may come back later to edit it

The same lyrics were used in the original Fire Temple music in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Nintendo just replaced the singing with weird choir-like synth noise in the later revisions.

Most of the people playing wouldn't even think, or know how, to translate lyrics from arabic to their native language.
The irony of the censorship in case of LBP really makes me wonder how the people, the ones who complained about the lyrics, would react when hearing the whole context behind.
Regardless of the context of the original work, it’s easier to just be mindful and respectful of others, especially when you want to reach a wide audience and provide a good time for everyone. This is one downside of using audio samples without having knowledge or understanding of what the sample is, in the first place.
@@Aqua_Xenossia Well in that case, let’s all find something to be offended by in all games and subsequently complain, that way, the next time you buy any game, you’ll just be met with a white screen saying “there was a game here, it’s gone now”, because everyone seems to be offended by something.
The weird thing about the Bernadetta edit is that, as I recall, the revision actually brought it more in line with what the line said in the Japanese version. Supposedly, the localization added the extra details.
it's funny how people are suddenly ok with direct translations here. localizers try to go too big. I think it often erases culture or is distracting when they "add flair" like that and usually prefer the "bland" direct translations that people harp on. This example really is something else, though.
I didn't think there was much censorship issues in 3H besides Bernadetta. Were you thinking of the Chris Niosi thing going into it or was there more cases of censorship I have missed?
I understand why they wanted to change that line so as to not attract any attention from those who would cause trouble, but I don't understand why anyone would be offended by that in this context: she's simply explaining what happened and the motive for doing so.
It’s rumored that it was changed for the sake of the Australia Ratings Board and they wanted the game to be the same worldwide but that’s just a rumor. Also, as an aside, regardless of the sexual harassment stuff, Niosi did break NDAs and that is a MASSIVE no-no in the industry. It’s an easy way to get blacklisted. And by all accounts from people who knew him, he was a jerk and among some of the statements that he broke his NDA with was him bragging about how he was gonna be in Smash. The LittleBigPlanet controversy will always be a fun one in my mind, because my brother happened to get an early copy of it just hours before the recall happened. It was kind of mind-blowing to have a game go from "we're playing this a day before we should" to "we're playing this a month before we should" in a single afternoon.
I have a copy of the pre-patched Little Big Planet. I even remember when I got home and looked at the receipt, there was a note printed in bold that said something like "Do not sell this product. Hold for recall." I thought "What's this all about?" and just went ahead with playing the game. I didn't find out about the "controversy" until days later.

The interesting thing about the dialogue change in Three Houses is that the "censored" version it was changed to is actually a better translation of the original Japanese. The first translation is embellished to make it sound worse. It's weird too, because the translation overall isn't that great, and the one time they fixed it people got upset because they liked the original translation better!
tbh it kinda makes sense that when your translations are so inaccurate anyone that actively cares about accuracy already denounce them as garbage and the only people defending them are the "I don't care about accuracy, I LIKE this rewritten script" type, that last crowd is going to complain when the inaccuracies they like are edited to be more accurate.

They just hate anything that shows chesticles. Of course it is no problem that we have muscular dudes everywhere. Yeah sure, all is fair. What disturbs me more are the creators, who have no free will and just buckle, only to please a group of people.
I get why they made the dialogue in Fire Emblem less horrific, since it's a Nintendo game. But it makes far less of a statement about abuse now, and the changed dialogue is vague enough that you could read it as referring to things that are even more horrific now.
Apparently, it was to be more in line with the Japanese version, which was also vague. The initial EN dialogue just added the "Submissive wife" dialogue. However, I'm not a fan of the vagueness of the revised version, so yeah they shouldn't have changed it because the revised version implies far worse happened
Really funny that you should release this today. I broke out my PS3 and was introducing my 4 year old to LBP literally just this morning. I had completely forgot about the Day 0 patch and just wanted to show him a fun casual platformer to play with me.

So we'll put out a patch that removes that but still let you spray someone's crimson liquids all over the city streets because adult entertainment starts at graphic violence but ends with natural bodily beauty."
Counterpoint: Maybe this is because it could have impacted the game's rating, which would more be the fault of the ESRB. The nudity description is only for, "brief instances of male and female full-frontal nudity" on the ESRB page and doesn't describe this.
The Arbiter of Aliteration Appears once Again
Along with assonance.
Couldn't pay attention to the Devil May Cry Segment due to the sheer awesomeness of the megaman music in the background :D
I was getting worried thinking, "So close to the end of the video and no Peter Molyneux cameo?". You pulled through. Thanks man.
Peter Molyneaux is like Larry’s sephiroth
I loved the vid. Adored it! Especially the Hearthstone one where Blizz tried to argue a false reason for why they're censoring themselves. But that Duelists of the Roses track at 12:20 hit me in the nostalgia harder than episode 1 of pokemon
@@Pikachu132
Because the rewritten script in this game is better. The added details about what Berna went through leaves a WAY stronger impact, allowing the player to better sympathize with her and hate her dad, than just saying "he tied me to a chair... and that's all". This isn't a Fates situation where whatever conversation Velouria was having with her dad was replaced with WIGGITY WIGGITY while Saizo and Beruka's B-rank support I believe was replaced with "..."s.
Larry always making Sundays great! Thank you sir!
Remember kids, it's okay to tie your significant other to a chair as long as you don't leave them there all day.
oh somehow from context I thought she was talking about her dad. feels odd that a husband would _train_ someone to be a good submissive wife, if she isnt already you just don't marry her..
Don't kinkshame.
Uh.. wait what the
Worked for Sean Penn
@@Clay3613 will definitely kinkshame.
The first one isn't that uncommon for Sony. They've been demanding censorship pretty regularly in recent years.
The "tide me to a chair" thing is worse now since is opened to the imagination. Before, she just had to be quiet. But now... Anything could have happened in that chair.
I suppose that the main reasons why Hearthstone has not changed the word Warcraft to Peacecraft yet is because they would lose brand recognition as well as risking being sued by Bandai for using the name of one of the families from their flagship Gundam franchise.
They could change it to "SJWcraft" I suppose.
@@BeardFaceSuper You still use "SJW" unironcally? Did you time travel here from 2015 or 2016?
@@theultimatesagavan6287 You commenting on every thread only proves why you're so sensitive to (everything) the usage of "SJW". Also, the term was originally coined by one of your own....

And next week: Five Game Patches, that censored offensive Content that weren't offensive at all. :D
Pretty much what this was
@@SanteeDakota yeah :D
that was what the actual title of this video was though...
That was this week.
Pretty sure that it's only offense to a hand full of control freaks who think everyone should have the same morals as they do, by force, if necessary.
It's funny how later Little Big Planet Karting had a song about having sex, "Inmovil" by a band called Kinky, and it was never removed nor censored XD
Was watching the video when that familiar tune kicked in, over the Hearthstone footage. Yugioh Duelist of the Roses theme, not thought about that one in a while.
Shaq Fu on PS4 got a day one patch that removed nearly an entire conversation toward the beginning of stage 3. As Shaq approaches a new enemy called Lipstick Lizard toward the beginning of the stage, the following dialogue is exchanged:
LL: “Stay away from Kandy, you freak!”
Shaq: “I will beat you like a drum... wait. You are a man, right?”
LL: “How dare you! This is L.A.! I am non gender binary, which means half and half.”
Shaq: “Then half of you is about to catch a beating.”
The day one patch reduced the dialogue to the first line only, where Lipstick Lizard tells Shaq to stay away from Kandy.
Haha!! That exchange is amazing. A shame they caved to the mob.
Zutto Aragi It’s not so much caving to a mob the way I see it, since no one would have had time to complain about it before the patch went out. It was more like when Disney realized there was a piece of nudity in “The Rescuers” and recalled it on their own before people found it and dragged them through the mud over it.
Sure as hell never thought I'd hear Mega Man X6 music in an unrelated video; that was a neat choice! Also, the idea of Ubisoft censoring an unconscious woman with her bits hanging out seems a little on the nose, don't you think?
Larry mate you missed South Park the stick of Truth. Ubisoft censored the heck out it with the first patch
Stick Of Truth was a sad time to be an European
Was gonna say 'What got censored' but then I remembered: I live in the US so none of that for me.
@@richiesahlin6409 I think other countries got the Shaft outside the US.
Australia had sad koalas.
@@Fonzzz002 Not really, the european version was funnier.
Would be pretty ironic if this video were suddenly censored to remove the Globgogabgalab BGM.
I mean, is not suprising considering that the director forced SaberSpark to take down the review because he is super salty that his "masterpiece" is getting ridiculed.
@@collaterale1 Exactly
I wonder what the composer's reaction was to his song being removed.
Especially given that he himself is a devout Muslim and clearly has no issue with making this music despite the complaint stating it would be offensive to him
I bet it wasn't nobody of a Muslim background complaining.. I guarantee it wasn't! It was some kid in their parents' basement being an a__ on the internet.. Some kid of a non Muslim background trying to see how much controversy he or she can stir up.. You and I know kids love attention if it's good or bad..
DMC 5 Producer: _censors bare butt with neon pink laser farts_
Internet Deviant: "That's my fetish."
DMC 5 Producer: 😒
ok the fact you used duelist of the roses for the hearthstone segmant was the best song choice ever *chef's kiss*
The PS4 party game “That’s You” had a character card of the ancient Sumerian ruler Sargon of Akkad. When the controversial TH-camr/commentator who used his name came to prominence the devs stuck a white rectangle over the name on the card. Poor actual Sargon, cancelled over 4000 years after his death because of someone else.
Really? That is interesting. I'll have to use that tidbit somewhere! Thank you!!!
The only people who find modern Sargon "controversial" are communists and the alt-right, the lunatic fringes of society.
2:38 shows footage of dmc5, but plays the awesome infinity mijinion music from mmx6.
A wiser man than i once said;
'No, we're not pandering. Would you like us too? let us pander to you not wanting us to pander.'
Sounds more like an idiot to me.
Who said that exactly?
So in order to not pander to anyone we must make something which absolutely no one will like.
@ Yes.
@ We call that Art.
whoever arranged the chapters on this vid wasn't paying attention
seriously? one song in LBP offended *one person* so badly that sony decided to a giant recall of the game before it was released? yeah, fuck that.
hearthstone : we took the War out of Warcraft.
Remember, there's no blood in war. People just... *cough* next question!
China: "That's right, Blizzard!"
Didn’t expect Fire Emblem Three Houses to be on here. I recognized Byleth’s new voice actor (Zach Aguilar) as Tanjiro from Demon Slayer.
I'm bummed Chris got removed as Byleth's VA, he's one of my favorite VAs and animators. Makes sense though, those were some pretty bad claims that'd make the rest of the game look bad for having him in it.
@@eternalblueanimations3099 also breaking NDA
That is also pretty serious
12:20 OH MY GOD THIS MUSIC! Duelists Of The Roses FTW! My god this brings back memories, I need to play that game again
I’m glad I ain’t the only one who liked it! 😌
Lancastrians... Ah...
Censorship is telling a man he can't eat a steak because babies can't or whatever Mark Twain said about that.
Something like that.
That Globglogabgolab song in the background of that advert.
Maybe part of the issue here is that game dev/company should not be so afraid of having their work marked 18+
Even the ones that aren't fall afoul of censorship at times. The ACB and Saint's Row 4 as a specific example. Not sure how we're going to fix that mob of puritans without fixing voting habits.
lmao background music playing during the blinkest ad is the globglogabgalab Instrumental
I love the song choices in this one, especially Infinity Mijinion from Mega Man X6 during the DMC5 segment and Vs. Lancastrians from YuGiOh: Duelist of the Roses during the Hearthstone segment.
Wait wait wait, Blizzard/Activision decided that sexualizing content in Hearthstone was no longer okay … but sexually abusing employees to the point of apparent suicide was still acceptable?
Is there a single major game studio that aren't utter scum?
Great video! I had heard about a few of these but you added details I had not heard. Great job :)
W.t.f. is a succubus now so offensive that they need to literally delete her existence?
To Blizzard employees, yes.
Women are strong, they're so strong in fact that we need to remove anything that remotely upsets some of them. Even though a succubus literally dominates men and kill them, they are seen as a sex object and that hurts poor strong womens fee fees. Who can blame them, I remember watching big dumb strong boy Arnold ripping off his shirt and wrestling an alien in the mud and it made me cry for a month. We are more than just our bodies women!
Don’t worry. A succubus is offensive but Cuties is defended.
Ugh, because people forget that the succubus has been a part of many western mythologies for a long time, perhaps thousands of years.
They just hate anything that shows chesticles. Of course it is no problem that we have muscular dudes everywhere. Yeah sure, all is fair.
What disturbs me more are the creators, who have no free will and just buckle, only to please a group of people.
You saying "Ohhhh dear." is the funniest thing ever.
If censorship is about avoiding offense, maybe we should treat censorship itself as more offensive.
Really funny that you should release this today. I broke out my PS3 and was introducing my 4 year old to LBP literally just this morning. I had completely forgot about the Day 0 patch and just wanted to show him a fun casual platformer to play with me.
1:24 the Globglogabgalab reference had me dying of laughter.
Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled changed the names of a few skins
It also added MICROTRANSACTIONS in a later update.
The Watchdogs censorship is just more proof of how hypocritical people can be sometimes. Spread eagle woman? Censor! Fully nude man? Oh, that's perfectly fine!
Seriously, either censor BOTH or NONE.... And I'd say none cause it is a mature rating anyway.
It's the same in other forms of media too. Men only tend to get censored if they're erect.
This occurred in the era before update patches, but Zelda: Ocarina of Time had three modifications in re-releases. 1. The music in the Fire Temple contained the Islamic Confession of Faith, which was removed and replaced with a new composition in the gray cartridge. 2. Ganondorf vomits blood during the final battle, which was colored green in the gray cartridge. 3. The Gamecube and subsequent re-releases replaced the crescent moon Gerudo symbol with an original symbol. The original versions are only available on the gold cartridge.
"The butt crack is back." I can't stop laughing.
