I can say I did finally complete the awesome JSW after many, many, many, many hours trying it when I should have been doing my school homework. Printed out the entire mansion from Crash Magazine and planned all my routes out. If they re released it now as an upgrade I guarantee it would be a hit again with the younger and older generations. Loved this an classics like Trashman.

either he was paid well, or he didn't notice the flaws because he is an expert. Think about it this way, $60 for a board that lets you play in-game? not a bad deal for someone who pays hundreds if not thousands for them normally, combined with the fact he would have had the skills to pull off the tricks normally (and thus translate them into the game, compared to the vast majority of players) and you can kind of see how something most people wouldn't touch turns into a fun toy for an hour or two

I spent hours at night (before catching a few hours kip and going to work next day) on Jet Set Willy. Me and a friend at the time were trying out different things and pooling our knowledge. When we first encountered that bug, we immediately thought it actually was part of the design, and I said I'd go about mapping a proper route by trial and error. I did it, and I still have that map.
So while it weas very much a bug, it wasn't a bug that was preventing you doing the game. It CAN be done with no patch, as it's the way we did it in the end, and the way I still do it to this day. The route is simple - you go throught the mansion and generally make your way slightly down and rightwards all the way out to the boat and beach, then return and go under the house (avoiding Hades) then proceed all the way along to the far left of the house, get everything there, then come back through the front entrance of the house and bo up the tree. Get to the top (and iirc, go one screen left) then go back all the way down, through the house leftwards, then up and along the top through the Quirkafleeg bit, back down the tree again, then back up to his bedroom. Finish.
There was ANOTHER game breaking bug though that did prevent the competition being done normally - two particular beer glasses in one of the room up the left top side of teh house couldn't be collected as one small platform was missing. Two pokes were printed to alleviate this, and we successfully managed to complete it ... just over a week after the competition had been claimed.
    Bugger.

Battlefield V - Those sexist white male gamers are at it again, this time saying cybionic women didn't fight with a katana on the British front lines of WWII while wearing Scottish warpaint. Why can't they just let a WWII game that's in a series that's known for trying to be historically authentic have this verifiably historically inaccurate be included so my little girl can play someone that looks like her in this game that's supposed to be authentic?
Before any accusations are thrown my way, there were women that did fight in WWII. Just not on the British front lines. Or the American front lines. Or the French front lines. Or the German front lines. Or the Italian front lines. Basically, any nation involved didn't have women fight in their front lines. The closest would be the Soviets with their 1000 snipers. Their stories deserve to be told just as much as the people who fought on the front lines, yet they've been neglected by all kinds of media. There were women that helped with the French Resistance. During the Battle of Britain, the defenders were women because most of the men weren't there. There is a way to include women in a WWII game while neither breaking authenticity nor making it an alternate history.

Two men are sitting drinking at a bar at the top of the Empire State Building, when the first man turns to the other and says "You know, last week I discovered that if you jump from the top of this building, the winds around the building are so intense that by the time you fall to the 10th floor, they carry you around the building and back into a window". The bartender just shakes his head in disapproval while wiping the bar.
The second guy says, "What, are you nuts? There's no way that could happen. "No, its true," the first man says. "Let me prove it to you." He gets up from the bar, jumps over the balcony, and plummets toward the street below. As he nears the 10th floor, the high winds whip him around the building and back into the 10th floor window and he takes the elevator back up to the bar.
He meets the second man, who looks quite astonished. "You know, I saw that with my own eyes, but that must have been a one time fluke." "No, I'll prove it again," says the first man as he jumps again. Just as he is hurtling toward the street, the 10th floor wind gently carries him around the building and into the window. Once upstairs he urges his fellow drinker to try it.
"Well, why not." the second guy says, "It works. I'll try it." He jumps over the balcony, plunges downward passes the 11th, 10th 9th, 8th, floors. . . . . and hits the sidewalk with a SPLAT.
Back upstairs the bartender turns to the other drinker and says, "You know Superman, you're a real jerk when you're drunk".

I feel like Lawbreakers was by no means a BAD game: in fact it had a lot going for it. It's main problem was that it came out at the wrong time as Overwatch and battle royale games ate its lunch, much like how a lot of shooters in the late 90s got overshadowed by the mad success of Half-Life 1. That, and the trend of free-to-play online multiplayer made it hard to make the argument of a pay-up-front multiplayer-only game in such an environment. If it was free-to-play to start with, but you could unlock a massive amount of cosmetic options for a flat price, I reckon that would have given it more legs.

@Golden Robodude Here's the thing with creative mechanics: You have to teach people how to use them.
From what I heard, as I never had any interest in playing a game like Lawbreakers, the tutorial was awful and failed to explain how different it was. Things like the gravity mechanic and why you would shoot backwards.
And as for your Fornite example, you forget that the primary gameplay loop wasn't building, it was the BR shooting mechanic. People already were familiar with what that was from the get-go and the building was something they were at least willing to try as the other option was PUBG.
And as for the sale price, I'm kinda back and forth as there are multiplayer games that charge an upfront fee that still sell: Call of Duty, Battlefield, Overwatch, Among Us. Its kinda back and forth.

I know more than a couple actual skaters that love the board controller. I think the real issue with it was it was an enthusiast product, built for enthusiasts, marketed to the masses. None of the reviewers were skaters themselves, so they didn't have the muscle memory real skaters have. You just can't release a game for whatever percent of real pro skaters are out there that will buy it and be able to make it perform. That's just not a viable product. You see this sort of thing happen a lot. The reason things like guitar hero worked was that 1) it isn't actually a guitar, it is way easier to learn than that and 2) there are a LOT of real guitar players out there with transferable skillsets.
This is why Tony likes the controller. It was built for people like him. All tens of them.

Realistically, they should have had a team working on the board controller, and another working on basic gamepad controls. Then the competing companies clearly were still money hungry but out of ideas. That's when they released crap like Guitar Hero Aerosmith/Green Day/Why is this happening? Also Beatles Rock Band. As much as I love the Beatles, it just became oversaturated wayyy too quickly. By the time DJ Hero came out, everyone was already over the fad. I didn't know a single person who owned it, and honestly, that genre had run it's course. There was a sharp decline of quality in favor of quantity, and I'm kind of glad it died out.

I really think he believed in the product but at the same time, was contractually obligated to keep a good face on in public despite whatever misgivings he had during its development. Like I'm sure he clashed with the devs and overall disagreed with how it should have been done, but otherwise ultimately still believed in the project. Maybe he recognized that he wasn't a developer so he trusted the actual devs on how it should be done, even though in his heart he knew something wasn't right. Hell, even I know the difference between the two, and my investment into the series is rather subdued. I played the first one, but never really got to grips with it. I read a few of the comics though, because they were a fun ride.
The Pendulum Wars were basically the in-universe Cold War-gone-hot, between the two Superpowers of COG and the UIR, and ended just a short time before Gears of War 1. It was a mostly conventional war, so no chainsaw bayonets yet, though some Maori-inspired island tribes, the ones Tai Kaliso came from, apparently fought with shields, swords and spears against the Machine Guns and Tanks of the UIR. Most of the playable Characters in the main Trilogy participated in the conflict in one way or another.
The Locust War meanwhile is the Human vs "Aliens" conflict the series is centered around, and needs no explanation.
