    Thanks for the shout out! Depending on use case, for CRT enthusiasts -- the recommended refresh rate is ~120Hz because the strobe crosstalk can pretty much disappear (no double image at all) at lower refresh rates on this panel.
    Lower Hz gives more time to hide LCD GtG pixel response between refresh cycles, reducing crosstalk further. This can be useful for games that cannot reach 240fps, as strobing looks best at framerate=Hz. The user has a choice of strobing at a lower refresh rate, depending on priorities.
    Ideally, reviewers should also test lower-Hz strobe backlight operation *too*, as refresh rate headroom massively improve strobe backlights (120Hz strobing on a 240Hz panel, versus 120Hz strobing on a 144Hz panel). So people should buy a 240Hz XG2431 even if they only plan to use the strobing at a lower Hz.

    Very good, solid review. But something many people don't realize is that strobing is much clearer at lower refresh rates. And this monitor just spreads its wings at it. What you missed is full screen strobe crosstalk testing (top, middle, bottom) at 60-120-144Hz with applied large vertical totals (QFT). At these refresh rates majority of today's LCDs will have badly tuned other than middle parts of the screen. XG2431 is an exception here. 120Hz will look much clearer than 240Hz because as refresh rates increases strobing requirements become more strict very quickly - response times need to fully fit within refresh window, otherwise ghosting starts doubling/smearing. Same goes for non-strobed situation, that is why u see smearing on today's 360-390Hz panels more than on 240Hz or bellow. Reduced refresh combined with QFT trick is amazing! It almost completely removes strobe crosstalk. For those to whom motion clarity is number one priority there is a potential advantage of using around 120-144Hz. But still, what this IPS panel can achieve at 240Hz is great.

    • @Axel-lt5jb
      @Axel-lt5jb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can u recommend this monitor even if i use 240hz option? Bcs it seems like a dumb move to use 120hz on a 240hz.. or do u recommend other 240hz like the asus vg259qm or vg279qm? Or does this monitor have the same issue with viewsonic?

    • @josipreponj1928
      @josipreponj1928 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Axel-lt5jb VG25/279QM are 2019 panels which I can't recommend anymore. Asus ELMB implementation isn't very good - too much overshoot and locked overdrive with average strobe crosstalk. Although XG uses newer panel with slightly faster gtg, contrast and color is nothing special. Very standard in that regard. If u plan to use strobing @max Hz and u can maintain those 240 fps 99% of the time (large fps headroom), and u don't mind 100-160 nits, than sure go for it.
      Better strobing at lower refresh rates is not Viewsonic specific issue. Thats how thing works. Refresh rate must be reduced for QFT to be used. QFT is basically sped up delivery of refresh cycle over the cable. E.g. sending data at the speed of 240Hz while at 120Hz... Interestingly most of the monitors on market don't utilize this for strobing which makes XG2431 the best option currently.

In your review of the BenQ XL2546K, the UFO result there was MUCH clearer than the one shown here and it was in fact even better than the Viewsonic XG2431 shown here... You can literally go check it right now, pause at 4:30 on this video, open another tab and go on the BenQ review video and pause that at 4:00 and now see it for yourself. If different reviews show different results on the same monitor, it becomes hard to trust the review. Maybe there was a mistake in the testing, I don't know.

But when I watched his Acer 390Hz monitor review he says that he uses a different UFO speed to see the differences better. So the UFO test picture you see here is from 1080 pixels/second whereas in his original Zowie review he was using 960 pixels/second. This is a based comment though, should get pinned so people are aware!

    Hey Ali. Great video. It is nice too see brands shifting towards IPS panels for overall better smoothness (no black smearing, better latency, much less flickering etc.) from VA that's been showed in the throats of gamers just because they had better contrast ratio and deeper blacks. Not the most important feature/s for gamers, especially competitive ones. And also great to see display content from a creator who has great knowledge about both the technical and gaming side of things. I have a request that I hope you would be interested in. I would like to learn from you how to set up a PC (or laptop in my case, but I know that's not your profession) to have the smoothest experience possible. You have made videos in the past talking about latency and color, but you know those 2 aren't everything. I know you touch on some key things in your videos here and there but to have a whole guide for it would be AWESOME!

Seeing even just a few (there are more than a few) complaints about them broke all my trust for their gaming gear. Of course, once reviews are out they'll jack the price. $420 CAD right now which isn't bad since asus 280hz is $440 with worse strobing and MSI is out of stock everywhere. I have G-Sync enabled in NVidia Control Panel, but maybe I have to enable FreeSync in the OSD settings as well. Which I can't reach because the buttons are not working. • @richardmiklos
      @richardmiklos 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lilahzd I did buy it, yes. So for pure visuals I don't really see a difference. They are both much better than my other monitor which is a TN panel. As for the backlight strobing stuff once again I don't really see a difference between the two, but the Viewsonic was annoyingly dark when using the good backlight strobing settings, even in a dark room it annoyed my eyes. It's like when you are reading something in a badly lit room, you can read it, but your eyes are uncomfortable. So not seeing a difference in clarity, but being annoyed by the brightness, I didn't even use the feature on the Viewsonic.
      I do notice the framerate difference though, even in Apex that is limited to 300 FPS, so I think if you can get stable 390 FPS in CS2 you will benefit more from the extra frames.
      Here comes the bad stuff. The Viewsonic has this button problem that makes it basically unusable after a few months. You might be lucky and get one with good buttons if they even exist, but that sounds like gambling. Unfortunately the Acer also has a serious problem: sometimes (like once or twice a day) the screen goes black for 1-2 seconds. Now this sound serious, but I've found a solution on a reddit post that also worked for me. I haven't had this happen for about 2 months now. The redditor suggested placing 2 ferrite beads on each end of the DP cable, and I did just that. The beads have a maximum cable diameter of 6.5 mm to fit the DP cable.

    So I'll have to rock with the zowie? Or is there something else? The 390hz is kinda "overkill"?

      @@ZaneCane the answer is no. I have the G7 and the xl2546K which is much clearer in motion. The G7 is not bad at all but I can’t game on it for competitive games the difference between the two is too noticeable in my opinion if you have high standards. I bought the g7 thinking it could replace the 2546k but in my opinion it’s too far away in motion clarity. Pixels are less responsive (especially in darker areas), backlight strobing is too dimm and there are too many QC issues with it. This Viewsonic is really interesting though but still not 1440p unfortunately !

    • @ZaneCane
      @ZaneCane 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hsmzid the XL2546K is 1080p vs G7 1440p though. Would you think the resolution be a factor? I've never had an issue with my G7 but then again this it is my first 1440p 240hz monitor coming from an ASUS 1080p 144hz...

    • @Hsmzid
      @Hsmzid 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZaneCane to be fair, yes, if the xl2546k was 1440p it would be a much better screen imo. Crosstalk is an issue for me on this screen also. I play a lot of Apex and I wouldn’t mind a crisper image at all. That’s what I really like in the G7 compared to the ZOWIE.
      An oled model would be perfect but manufacturers cannot build small competitive screens yet. 24 inches is the sweetspot and even 27 inches on the G7 I find inconvenient. It’s immersive for AAA games though.
      Concerning the XG2431 it is a shame it is so dim, I probably would have upgraded from xl2546k.

    390hz acer was being sold at microcenter for $350 not too long ago but now its $400. Ive tried the acer 390hz, xl2546k (returned, was too similar to the xl2540), xl2540 (had it for 4 years), alienware aw2521h (360hz), sony trinitron crt. None of these come close to the crt. The closest any monitor that comes to the crt is the acer 390hz. I heard oleds are pretty close to no ghosting and good response times but you cant get an oled monitor currently, only tvs and theyre expensive and have burn in.

    WORD OF WARNING: if you watch this vieo half a year or year later, do keep in mind that ALL modern manufacturer start lineup with good models that get glowing reviews and then quietly change it for a cheaper, underperforming one. I repeat - EVERY.SINGLE of them was caught in the past doing that.
    So if you are buying one at the end of 2022 or early 2023 - unless you can find some community-review for late revisions - you play massive roulette and 90% chance you will buy different product.
